Ray Gerald Anderson
HOLDREGE - Ray Gerald Anderson, 79, of Holdrege, formerly of Lincoln County, died May 7, 2001.
He was born Feb. 13, 1922, in North Platte to Henning and Alice Sreaves Anderson. When he was young, his family moved to a farm northwest of Brady. He attended school in Lincoln County and Omaha Tech High School.
On Aug. 8, 1948, he married Alyce M. Edlund. They lived in Broken Bow for two years before moving to a farm northwest of Holdrege in 1952.
In 1982, he retired from farming and they moved into Holdrege where he served as a County supervisor on the County Board for 12 years.
He was a member of the Svea Dahl Covenant Church of Brady, Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church of Phelps County and he attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife; a daughter, Janet Anderson of Lincoln; a sister, Jewel (Forrest) Johnson of Gothenburg; a sister-in-law, Norrene Anderson of Brady; two brothers, Delmar (Pauline) of Brady and Wendel (Marilyn) of Omaha; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Wilbert, Glen, Verlin and Cecil.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege with the Revs. Murray Jones and Kevin Lund officiating. Burial will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Holdrege.
Warren Bowker
OROVILLE, Calif. - Warren Bowker of Oroville, Calif., brother of Wynona Grandel of North Platte, died May 9, 2001, in Oroville. He was 75.
He was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Haigler. He was raised in Big Springs. He entered the U.S. Navy where he served 34 years during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
In December 1999, he married Jean after the death of his wife Sherrie.
He is survived by four daughters, Shawn of Oroville, Daron of Walla Walla, Wash., and Peggy and Betty of San Diego; a sister, Wynonna Grandel of North Platte; three brothers, Beryl Bowker of Juleburg, Colo., Gary Bowker of Salem, Ore., and Merlyn Bowker of Duluth, Minn.; three stepdaughters, a stepson; five grandchildren, and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lloyd Bowker.
Services were May 15, 2001, in Oroville. Burial was in Oroville.
Cecil Cole
MERNA - Cecil Cole, 86, of Broken Bow, formerly of Merna, died May 18, 2001, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
He was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Merna to Alvin and Eva Sommer Cole. He attended school at Merna. Later he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 from 1945.
On March 19, 1945, he married Helen Zubrzycki. He worked as a heavy equipment owner and operator. They lived for several years at Eagle, Colo. In 1970, they moved to Merna, where they lived until recently.
He was a member of the American Legion at Merna and was a lifetime honorary charter member of the Elks Lodge at Glenwood Springs, Colo.
Mr. Cole is survived by his wife; two sons, Chuck (Sue) and Gary (Beth), both of Merna; two brothers, Wayne Cole of Casper, Wyo., and Bruce Cole of Henderson, Nev.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lucille Cole; and a brother, Dwight Cole.
Memorials are suggested to the Anselmo Merna Scholarship Fund.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Merna Cemetery with military honors and the Rev. Jim Stark officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Florence E. Detty
COZAD - Florence Detty, 93, of Cozad died May 17, 2001, at the Southwest Manor Care Center in Cozad.
She was born May 12, 1908, at Eddyville to Robert and Alice Erwin Carty. Her mother died when she was 10 years old and she was raised by her sister.
On Jan. 1, 1933, she married Weldon Detty. They moved to Cozad in 1935. She was employed at the Ben Franklin Store for 15 years.
She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge, receiving her 50-year jewel in 1993. She was also a past commander of the Army Mothers and a member of the 12th Street Birthday Club.
Survivors include a son, Lance of Hastings; seven grandchildren, David (Linda) Peddycoart of Cedar Park, Texas, Melodee (Allen) Ackland of Grafton, Cami Detty of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Deb (Bob) Hodgin of Avondale, Ariz., Kelly Mowrey f Wichita, Kan., and Michael and R.C. Detty of Hastings; and seven great-grandchildren, Daniel Ackland, Tarah, Jeremiah and Erik Detty, Tiffany and Kylie Hodgin and Amanda Mowrey.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; a daughter, Lomagene; three sisters; three brothers; and a special niece, Marilyn Lindenmuth.
A memorial has been established.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Cozad Christian Church with Jim Henry officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Bertha M. Fagot
KEARNEY - Bertha M. Fagot of Kearney, formerly of Lexington and Gothenburg, died May 18, 2001, at the St. Luke's Good Samaritan Village in Kearney. She was 76.
She was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Lexington to Clay and Olga Gillett Fagot. She was raised in Lexington with her large family and enjoyed playing bingo, watching television and being with her family. She was a resident at Parkview Villa in Gothenburg for more than 20 years.
She is survived by two sisters, Rose (Wayne) Kaps of Broken Bow and Floralee (Dick) Ourada of Elm Creek; five sisters-in-law, Marie Fagot of Cherry Valley, Calif., Lucille, Marianne and Anita Fagot, all of Lexington and Betty Burt of Alamo, Texas; two brothers, P.J. Fagot of Gardena, Calif., and Clarence Fagot of Bakersfield, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Albert, Joe, Lawrence, Marvin and Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Parkview Villa at Gothenburg.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ann's Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Stephen Gary Strand
Stephen Gary Strand, 57, of North Platte died May 13, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 5, 1943, to Paul and Lotus McNare Strand in Ainsworth. He attended school in Bassett, graduating from Rock County High School in 1961.
He was married to Carol Stewart. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and later returned home to help his father. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and was a tank operator until 1968 when he was discharged. He worked for his dad and began riding saddle broncs in numerous rodeos.
He then married Kelley Hood. He continued to rodeo until 1984, when he returned to Ainsworth.
He then married Becky Blackmore and they were married for eight years. In 1992, he started racing in the NHRA and continued until 2001.
Mr. Strand is survived by a son, Stephen Paul of Mason City; his uncle, Parker Strand of Ainsworth; three aunts, Nellie Davidson of Ainsworth, Lillie Baxter of North Platte and Anna Dodds of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and many other relatives.
Memorials are suggested to his family .
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary; his parents; his grandparents; and his aunt, Martha Shaul.
Services were May 18, 2001, at the Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth with the Rev. Gerald H. Schwarz officiating. Burial was in the Giles Cemetery in Elsmere with military honors by the Ainsworth American Legion Post 79.

Bette L. Brandt
SCOTTSBLUFF - Bette L. Brandt, 69, of Scottsbluff died May 19, 2001, at Heritage Health Care in Gering.
She was born Dec. 13, 1931, to Jack and Bernice Mathers Jones in Neligh. She spent most of her youth in Neligh and graduated from Neligh High School in 1949.
On Sept. 9, 1951, she married Richard Brandt in Neligh. They moved to North Platte that same year.
Mrs. Brandt started working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1961.
In 1980, she transferred to the Scottsbluff office and retired in 1992 after 31 years.
She attended Grace Chapel in Scottsbluff and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Does Drove 21 of Scottsbluff and belonged to several Bible study groups. She was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Gary) Hormandl of North Platte and Nancy Cousins of Laramie, Wyo.; a son, Scott (Coni) of Scottsbluff; five grandchildren, Tony Hormandl, Cody and Haleigh Cousins and Tanner and Ty Brandt; her mother; a brother, Jack (Neta) Lee Jones of Clearwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; and her father.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Chapel with the Rev. Rich Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

MERNA - Cecil Cole, 86, of Broken Bow, formerly of Merna, died May 18, 2001, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
