Geraldine M. Paige

BRENTWOOD - Geraldine Maloon Paige, 92, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, in Brentwood.

She was born in Auburn, Maine, and had resided in Chelmsford Center, Mass., Windsor, Barre and Burlington, Vt., Goffstown, and Bristol, Conn.

She was a graduate of Edward Little High School and was a 1932 graduate of Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. She studied one year at Andover Newton Theological Seminary, Newton, Mass.

When her husband became ill, Mrs. Paige accepted the position of Christian education director of the Goffstown Congregational Church. She later became the assistant to the minister in Bristol, Conn., and later served as the director of Christian Education in Lynnfield, Center, Mass. For more than 10 years she worked on staffs of Stonleigh Burnham, Greenfield, Mass., Ethel Walker School, Simsbury, Conn., and Montpelier (Vt.) Junior College.

She was a member of the Atkinson United Church of Christ; the Women’s Fellowship of the Church; past president of the XYZ Senior Citizens; a trustee of the Atkinson Historical Society; and chaplain of the Molly Reid Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Derry.

The widow of the Rev. Howard Paige, she is survived by three children, David of Norfolk, Va., Margaret of Nashua and Robert of South Berwick, Maine; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Atkinson Congregational Church Memorial Fund.

Arnold B. Palmer

ACTON, Maine - Arnold B. "Bud" Palmer, 82, formerly of Hampton, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Blueberry Hill Health Care, Beverly, Mass.

He was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late Roscoe B. and Minnie E. (Arnold) Palmer and was a direct descendant of one of Hampton’s founding families. He was a summer resident of Acton, Maine, and wintered in Marco Island, Fla.

He was a 1938 graduate of Hampton Academy and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a pilot and flight instructor in Pensacola, Fla., and also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while in the Navy.

Mr. Palmer, with Leon Sicard, founded Palmer & Sicard Inc., in 1954, a well-known plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning company which he operated until his retirement in 1976 and which their sons continue to operate.

He was a member of Hampton’s American Legion Post No. 35; the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; the Hampton Historical Society; and was a former member of the Hampton River Boat Club and the Hampton Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice E. (Jones) Palmer; one son and his wife, Jeffrey B. and Mary Ellen Palmer of Hampton; two daughters and their husbands, Janice and Jon Adams of North Hampton, and Judith P. and Stanley Watkevich of Naples, Fla.; seven granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William R. Palmer of North Hampton; one sister, Eleanor Palmer Young of Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Ronald F. Sassone

HAMPTON - Ronald F. Sassone, 56, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, in Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston.

He was born Sept. 24, 1946, in Neptune, N.J., the son of Dominic Sassone of Mesa, Ariz., and the late Elizabeth (Murray) Sassone. He had resided in Hampton for 8½ years, coming from Scituate, Mass.

Mr. Sassone was vice president of the Granite Group for the past 10 years, a wholesale pipe valve and fittings company in Concord.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hampton.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Patience (Versoy) Sassone of Hampton; one son, Brian Sassone of Wall Township, N.J.; two brothers, Peter Sassone of Huntington Park, Calif., and Gregory Sassone of Asbury Park, N.J.; and one sister, Lisa Sassone of Braintree, Mass.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. Private interment will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Adult Oncology Research, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02116.

Mary L. Barbin

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. - Mary L. Barbin, 88, formerly of Exeter, died Jan. 1, 2003, in Northwest Hospital, Randallstown.

She was born Aug. 5, 1914, the daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Frechette) Richard.

Mrs. Barbin was a french cord stitcher at a shoe factory.

The widow of Aurele L. Barbin, she is survived by four daughters, Joanne Coyle of Owings Mills, Md., Elaine Raffert of Westminster, Md., Anita Binette of Stratham and Rita Hutchinson of Deerfield; one son, Michael A. Barbin Sr. of Nottingham; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rita Linscott of Exeter.

She was predeceased by one son, Gary P. Barbin.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 7 in St. Michael Church, Exeter.

Arrangements were by Loring Byers Funeral Directors Inc., Randallstown.

Beatrice C. Carbonneau

MANCHESTER - Beatrice C. (Loiselle) Sysyn Carbonneau, 85, died Jan. 11, 2003, in a Goffstown health care facility.

She was born March 28, 1917, in Manchester, the daughter of Alfred and Clara (Desrosiers) Loiselle and had lived most of her life in Manchester. She had resided in Exeter from 1989 until returning to Manchester four years ago.

Mrs. Carbonneau was an active parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church when the church was located in Goffs Falls, running the kitchen for bingo and the refreshment stand for the church fairs.

She enjoyed her summer home in Sunapee and her bridge club in Manchester.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce W. Sysyn of Manchester and Gregory F. Sysyn of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Sandra Cote of Brentwood; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Boissoneault and Doris Roy, both of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank T. Sysyn, who died in 1974, and her second husband, Harold J. Carbonneau, who died in 1989.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Litchfield. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Ferry St., Concord, NH 03301.

Arrangements were by the Goodwin Funeral Home, Manchester.

Sandra Gilgallon

ROCHESTER - Sandra Moody Gilgallon, 65, of Eagle Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at her home.

She was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Exeter, the daughter of the late William L. and Anne I. (Simes) Moody. She had resided in Cheshire, Conn., for more than 30 years and at Hampton Beach for several years before moving to Rochester in 2001.

She was a 1955 graduate of Robinson Female Seminary, Exeter.

Mrs. Gilgallon owned and operated Pins & Needles and worked as a bookkeeper.

She was an artist who enjoyed designing needlepoint, oil painting and singing.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Gilgallon Jr. of Cheshire; one daughter, Janice Gilgallon of Pittsfield, Mass.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley Moody of Pompano, Fla., and Tom Moody of Portsmouth; one sister, Shirley J. Barr of Rochester; her longtime companion, Edmund Wheaton of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Exeter Cemetery.

Doris Ann Gill

GREENLAND - Doris Ann Gill, 69, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, following a brief illness.

She was born May 2, 1933, in Cranston, R.I., the daughter of Dan and Helen Corvese. She traveled the world while her husband was in the Air Force.

When she was in her 50s, she traveled to Boston for undergraduate- and graduate-level course work in pastoral ministry, making the dean’s list every semester, and received her master’s degree in pastoral counseling and certification in pastoral ministry from Emmanuel College.

Mrs. Gill was interested in the Life Review Process and comforted many in her work at the Mark Wentworth Home, the Clipper Home, Edgewood Nursing Home, as an associate of Jim Trotzer, Ph.D., and most recently in her hospice care at Portsmouth Home Health and Hospice. She often lectured on the Life Review Process.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Earl Gill; two sons, David Gill of South Carolina and Michael Gill of Madbury; two daughters, Cathy Gill of Underhill, Vt., and Susan Gill of Rochester; and five grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. Spring burial will be in Greenland Cemetery.

John E. Hamilton

HAMPTON - John E. Hamilton, 69, of 572 Exeter Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, in El Paso, Texas.

He was born May 28, 1933, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of the late John and Bertha (Bagley) Hamilton. He had resided in Epping and Hampton, moving to Alamogordo, N.M., last year.

Mr. Hamilton was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as a special agent in the Air Force Office of Special Investigation, retiring in 1967. Following his retirement he was a DIS agent for the Defense Investigation Service, retiring with them in 1995.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and reading.

The widower of Theresa M. Hamilton, who died in 1999, he is survived by one daughter and her husband, Darlene and Wally Nelson of Alamogordo; and four grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Rocky Hamilton, and one daughter, Holly Reidy.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery, Epping.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New England Cancer Center.

Michael A. Kutlowski

HAMPTON - Michael A. Kutlowski, 82, of 1 Ashbrook Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late William and Sabina (Ostrowski) Kutlowski and had resided in Hampton since 1969.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Harry Lee.

Mr. Kutlowski and his brother Edward founded Tower Press, Inc., in Lynn. They later moved the business to Danvers, Mass., and then to Seabrook. They retired in 1985. He had previously been a machinist at the General Electric Riverworks Plant in Lynn before the war.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Holy Name Society.

He was a founding director of the former Seabrook Bank & Trust Co. and was a member of the Lynn Fish and Game Club. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed surf casting and hosting the Wednesday Night Poker Group for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anne C. (Zaniewski) Kutlowski of Hampton; four sons, Michael Kutlowski of Maynard, Mass., William Kutlowski, John Kutlowski and Edward Kutlowski, all of Hampton; one daughter, Mary Haskin of Dover; three grandsons; two step-granddaughters; two brothers, Edward Kutlowski of Hampton and John Kutolowski of Brockport, N.Y.; two sisters, Gertrude Zdanowicz of Peabody, Mass., and Jane McKay of Branford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Helene Jones.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart School, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

George P. Thornell

EXETER - George P. Thornell, 60, of Sherwood Forest, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a brief illness.

He was born March 6, 1942, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of the late William and Dorothy (Houlihan) Thornell and was raised in Amesbury, Mass.

He was a graduate of Amesbury High School.

Mr. Thornell was a quality control inspector for Berkshire Manufacturing and for the Henschel Corp. He was also a call fireman for the Amesbury Fire Department for 20 years.

He was a member of the Polish Cub, Amesbury, for many years and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol (Leathers) Thornell; one son and his wife, Jeffrey and Laurie Thornell of Bradford, Mass.; two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Chris Leary of Plaistow and Tracy and Dave Bickum of Danville; six grandchildren; and one sister, Linda Thornell of Newburyport.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 10 a.m. to noon in the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury. Funeral services will be held Monday at noon in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
