Wilfred Joseph LaBarre

EPPING - Wilfred Joseph LaBarre, D.C., 74, of 70 Red Oak Hill Lane, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at his farm.

Born on April 23, 1926, in Norwich, Conn., he was the only son of the late Wilfred Joseph LaBarre Sr., and the late Emma Fink LaBarre.

He lived in Epping since the early 1960s. He served as health officer in Epping during that time period. He established a successful Straight Chiropractic Clinic in Hampton and never missed a day of work.

He was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy and he attended Aviation Technical School in Putnam, Conn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aerial gunner specialist.

On Jan. 22, 1953, he graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic. He was licensed to practice in New Hampshire on Sept. 11, 1953.

From 1954 to 1972 he was a member of the Hampton Lions Club. On July 11, 1966, he was licensed to practice in Oklahoma. On May 12, 1965, he received his license to practice in South Carolina.

From 1968 to 1969 he was president of the N.H. Cooperative Chiropractic Society. In 1970 he served as president of the Granite State Chiropractic Society. In 1973 he became a member of the distinguished Board of Regents at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in Spartanburg, S.C. He remained an active regent and gave generously over the years to the college to ensure the advancement of the Straight Chiropractic movement.

From 1981 to 1986 he served as second vice president of the N.H. Straight Chiropractic Society. In 1983 he received the highest award given by Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic: He was named "Chiropractor of the Year" for his expertise in the science of Straight Chiropractic and his many years of research in the field.

He was a member of the board of directors at Pennsylvania Straight Chiropractic College in 1983. From 1987 to 2000, he lectured to various groups and societies in the United States.

He is survived by one daughter, Laura Melisi and her husband, John, of Somersworth; one son, Gregory of Portsmouth; his former wife, Leone LaBarre of Seabrook; Sheila LaBarre; and many beloved cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Edwina (Kolacz) LaBarre - wife of seven years - who died in 1983.

LABARRE - Wilfred Joseph LaBarre, D.C., 74, of 70 Red Oak Hill Lane, Epping, died Dec. 2, 2000. Memorials may be made to the New Hampshire Straight Chiropractic Society, (N.H.S.C.S.) c/o Dr. Russell Grazier, 504 Middle St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements by the Brewitt Funeral Service, Route 27, Epping. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Epping Community Church, across from the Brewitt Funeral Service.

REGAN - Josephine (Budzinski) Regan, 84, of 154 State Road, Kittery, Maine, the widow of John J. Regan, died Dec. 6, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael Church. Visiting hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Velma Mae LaBombard

PORTSMOUTH - Velma Mae LaBombard, 80, of 20 Islington St., died suddenly at her home on Monday, Dec. 4, 2000.

Born in Stockbridge, Vt., June 18, 1920, she was the daughter of Henry and Flora (LaCount) Race. She was a long-time resident of Lebanon and White River Junction, Vt., before moving to Portsmouth eight years ago. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in White River Junction and did volunteer work with the Salvation Army in Portsmouth.

She was employed by Profile Ski Wear for more than 30 years before her retirement.

The widow of Harold "Joe" LaBombard, she is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Richardson of Stratham; and a son, Kenneth LaBombard of Old Saybrook, Conn.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Flynn, and two brothers, Wendall Race and John Race.

LaBOMBARD - Velma LaBombard, 80, of 20 Islington St., died Dec. 4, 2000. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the family lot in Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph, Vt. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of New England, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Jane Lyons Beauchesne

EPPING - Jane Lyons Beauchesne, 62, of Exeter Road, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, surrounded by her family at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 17, 1938, in Lawrence, Mass., she was the daughter of the late James and Jane (Ritchie) Lyons.

She was a long-time Exeter resident and had lived in Epping for the past 43 years. She was a summer resident of Wells Beach, Maine, for many years.

She was a graduate of Robinson Female Seminary in Exeter in 1955. She retired in 1999 with over 20 years of employment as a customer service representative with Kingston Warren Corp., now known as Harvard Industries of Newfields.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Gilbert A. Beauchesne, who died Aug. 6, 1999.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Vigue and her husband, Larry, of Barrington; two sons, Paul R. Beauchesne of Epping and Rob A. Beauchesne and his wife, Paula, of Raymond; four grandchildren, Andy Vigue and Kristi Vigue, both of Barrington, Kendall Beauchesne and Cameron Beauchesne, both of Raymond.

BEAUCHESNE - Jane Lyons Beauchesne, 62, of Exeter Road, Epping, died Dec. 4, 2000. Calling hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph's Church, Epping, with the Rev. Corriveau officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Epping. Flowers are acceptable, or donations may be made in her memory to the Derry-Salem Home Health & Hospice, 15R East Broadway, Derry, N.H. 03038.

CONNOLLY - Matthew Connolly, 41, of 724 Exeter Road, Hampton, died Dec. 3, 2000. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. The family requests there be no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston, Mass. 02116. Arrangements by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Wendellyn Clare

GLEN ELLEN, Calif. - Wendellyn Clare, 55, of San Francisco and Glen Ellen, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Glen Ellen of a brain tumor.

She was born Nov. 22, 1945, in Portsmouth, N.H., the daughter of Marion Hodgdon Clare of Exeter and the late Wendell P. Clare Jr., who died March 4, and had resided in California for more than 25 years.

She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and Belknap College. She trained at Lakes Region Hospital, Laconia, N.H., and interned at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Hanover, N.H.

She was a medical technologist.

She was a member of North Congregational Church, Portsmouth.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Morton Kirsch of San Francisco; one sister, Lee Schlegel and her husband, John, of Fairfax, Va.; one brother, Wendell, "Bud" Clare, and his wife, Penny, of Lee, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

CLARE - Wendellyn Clare, 55, of San Francisco and Glen Ellen, Calif., died Dec. 2, 2000. A memorial service will be held at noon on Dec. 16 in North Church Chapel, Spinney Road, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wendell's Wish, 95 Halls Mill Road, Newfields, N.H. 03856, a memorial established in her father's name to support a nonprofit therapeutic riding school in Newfields.

Catherine Alice (Dowling) Shine Bennett

ARLINGTON, Texas - Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Alice (Dowling) Shine Bennett, 94, of 504 Ducan Perry Road, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth, N.H., on Sunday, with services at the Greenland Community Congregational Church in Greenland, N.H. The Rev. Douglas Carter, pastor, officiated. "A Lifetime of Memories," written in 1997 by Catherine Alice (Dowling) Shine Bennett, was read by the Rev. Carter. Charlie Pike was soloist and Ida Morang was the organist. In attendance were members of the church and the Women's Guild of the church. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Greenland, N.H., with committal services by the Rev. Carter. Bearers were Ronnie Demo, Mark Bennett, Joe Bennett, Cheryl Bennett, Tim Watts and Stephen Scanlon.

HICKMAN - James H. Hickman, 71, of 1462 Islington St., Portsmouth, died Dec. 4, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the chapel, with American Legion services at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday by Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 and VFW services at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday by Emerson Hovey Post No. 168. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688.

Gladys T. Hucksam

SEABROOK - Gladys T. Hucksam, 86, formerly of 81 Railroad Ave., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Country Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Newburyport, Mass.

She was born in East Boston, Mass., on March 18, 1914, the daughter of the late James E. and Mary (Mallett) Doucette.

She was a graduate of Everett High School and moved to Seabrook in 1975, coming from Rowley, Mass.

She worked as the national promotion manager for Cooper Laboratories in Lynn, Mass., for many years.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, a member and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 14 in Ipswich, Mass., and had been active in candlepin bowling leagues.

She was the wife of the late John P. Hucksam, who died in 1975, and her first husband, Francis A. Muldoon, a prisoner of war during World War II, died in 1945. A brother, James Doucette, and a grandson, Michael Muldoon, also predeceased her.

She is survived by two sons, James E. Muldoon and his fiancee, Sally Coughlin, of Seabrook and Robert J. Hucksam and his wife, Cindy, of Newburyport, Mass.; one sister, Marion Young of Melrose, Mass.; three grandchildren, Karen Pallozzi, Patricia Malacheski and James G. Muldoon; a niece and a nephew.

HUCKSAM - Gladys T. Hucksam, 86, formerly of Seabrook died Dec. 4, 2000. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday from the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. After cremation, private interment will be in the Main Street Cemetery, Rowley, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Phyllis Irene (Daggett) McGown

EXETER - Phyllis Irene (Daggett) McGown, 73, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Portsmouth Hospital, after a period of failing health.

Born March 26, 1927, in Rossford, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Florence (Thompson) Auler.

She resided in Exeter since 1983, and was a former Stratham resident of 15 years.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Fred W. Daggett, who died in 1975, and her second husband, Edward McGown, who died in 1976.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia I. Ross and Pamela S. Mattson, both of Kingsport, Tenn.; four sons, Dale A. Daggett of Somersworth, Fred D. Daggett of Lee, Peter G. Daggett of Barrington, and Jeremy S. Daggett of Northwood; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Arizona, North Dakota, Massachusetts and Florida.

MCGOWN - Phyllis Irene (Daggett) McGown, 73, of Exeter, died Dec. 3, 2000. Calling hours will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery in Exeter. Flowers are acceptable.

Beatrice T. Muniz

STRATHAM - Beatrice T. Muniz, 74, of 105 Willow Brook Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at the Exeter Hospital.

She was born in Brockton, Mass., on Jan. 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Edmund and Mary E. (Avery) Dufresne. Raised in Brockton, she resided several years in Taunton, Mass., before coming to Hampton in 1965 and had lived in Stratham for the past five years.

She owned and operated Ann and Andy's Candies of Hampton during the early 1980s. Previously, she was librarian for Sacred Heart School and a former member of its PTA. She also had worked in the school lunch program at Hampton Academy Junior High School and was a clerk at the Strawbery Banke General Store.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting, and made many Raggedy Anne and Andy dolls for Seacoast area children. She also knit several blankets for the children of Kosovo through the Linus Program. She was also a member of the former Lioness Club of Hampton and a graduate of Brockton High School.

Family members include her daughter with whom she resided, Mary Anne House, and her husband, Thomas, of Stratham; two sons, Thomas J. Muniz of York, Maine, and John A. Muniz of Tucson, Ariz.; six brothers, Edmund Dufresne, Louis Dufresne, George Dufresne, Richard Dufresne, John Dufresne, all of Brockton, Mass., and Gerald Dufresne of West Bridgewater, Mass.; two sisters, Louise Dufresne of Brockton, Mass.; and Eva May Rocha of Taunton, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her special friends, Charles and Adeline Nascinmento of Taunton, Mass.

Helen M. Proudy

HAMPTON - Helen M. Proudy, 67, of 218 Island Path, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass.

She was born in Boston, Mass., on Nov. 19, 1933, the daughter of the late Michael and Sarah (MacMann) Marshall.

She was a graduate of Malden, Mass., High School. After raising her family, she worked in quality control for ITT Semi Conductors in Lawrence, Mass., for several years, retiring in 1987.

A lifelong summer resident of Hampton, she moved here year-round in 1994, coming from North Reading, Mass., where she lived for 27 years.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church.

She was the wife of the late Richard P. Proudy who died in 1998, and was predeceased by two brothers, Martin Marshall and Henry Marshall; and by a granddaughter, Helen Proudy.

Family members include three sons, Paul M. Proudy of West Stockbridge, Mass., Brian F. Proudy of Londonderry and Richard V. Proudy of North Hampton; one daughter, Debra Cilibrassi of Rindge; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Rachel D. Pugh

MILTON - Rachel D. Pugh, 94, of White Mountain Highway, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born Feb. 13, 1906, in Milton, she was the daughter of the late James and Etta (Martin) Doe. She resided most of her life in Milton and was a graduate of McIntosh College in Dover.

She was employed as the House Hostess at the New Hampshire Farm Museum in Milton.

She was a member of Reunion Grange, Pomona State and National, and also a member of the Milton Historical Society.

Rachel was "bad as ever".

The widow of the late Ralph W. Pugh Sr., who died in 1982, she is survived by her four children: Shirley A. Varney of Madbury, Ralph W. Pugh Jr. of Milton, Betsy R. Mack of Somersworth and Barbara E. Chick of Milton; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a granddaughter, Kim Varney.

PUGH - Rachel D. Pugh, 94, of Milton, died Dec. 4, 2000. Calling hours are from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home, 32 Central St. in Farmington. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at the Community Church of Milton with the Rev. Linda J. Rackliffe, the Rev. Michelle A. Violette and the Rev. Stephen E. Hanson officiating. Interment will follow at the family cemetery in Milton. At the conclusion of the service, a time of reception will be held at the New Hampshire Farm Museum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory, to either the New Hampshire Farm Museum, P.O. Box 644, Milton, N.H. 03851 or to Strafford Guidance Center, 130 Central Ave., Dover, N.H. 03820.

Roger A. Chisholm

YORK, Maine - Roger A. Chisholm, 48, of 21 Southside Road, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at his residence after a long illness.

Born June 19, 1952, in Exeter, N.H., he was the son of Roy H. Sr. and Violet (Coffin) Chisholm, and attended Portsmouth High School. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany for three years.

He worked as a plastic fabricator in Shop 64 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 20 years.

He was an auto enthusiast and hand-built his own 1962 Cobra. He also enjoyed fishing and boating.

He was the husband of Joan (Roll) Chisholm of York.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Sean Chisholm of York; two brothers, D. Robert Chisholm of Canterbury, N.H., and Roy H. Chisholm Jr. of McCall, Idaho; one sister, Mary A. Hamrick of Penhook, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

CHISHOLM - Roger A. Chisholm, of Southside Road, York, Maine, died Dec. 2, 2000 in York. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the First Parish Congregational Church, York Street, York. Visiting hours will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Interment in the First Parish Cemetery, York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Portsmouth, 95 Albany St., Unit #11, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Marion I. Drummond

HAMPTON - The funeral for Marion I. Drummond, 82, of 23 Pheasant Run Lane, Stratham, who died Nov. 28, 2000, was held Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Rev. Deborah Knowlton, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiated.

William Elliot offered words of remembrance. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Knowlton.

Roswell Park Galvin

EXETER - The funeral for Roswell Park Galvin, 93, formerly of 277 Water St., was held Saturday from the Stockbridge Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Michael's Church, Exeter. The Rev. Marc B. Drouin, pastor, was the celebrant.

Organist was Denise Kelly and soloist was John Kelly. Acolytes were Joseph Latour, Al Marquis and Ray Russell. The pall was placed on the casket by Robert Godfrey, William Johnson, David Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Tom Light and William Pellerin.

Readings were offered by Michelle Johnson and Joanna Pellerin. The general intercessions were by Deirdre Johnson. The gifts were presented to the alter by Michelle Johnson and Adeline Lavigne.

Burial followed in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton, with committal prayers by Father Drouin. Full military honors were accorded to Mr. Galvin by a contingent from Fort Drum. The flag that draped the casket was presented to Mr. Galvin's daughter, Mrs. Noreen Johnson.

Pallbearers were Robert Godfrey, William Johnson, David Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Tom Light and William Pellerin.

Douglas Leighon Keys Jr.

HAMPTON - Services for Douglas Leighon Keys Jr., 83, of 875 Lake Park Drive, Birmingham, Mich., who died Nov. 29, 2000, were held Saturday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, followed by a graveside service in the Central Cemetery, Rye.

The Rev. John Solie, pastor of the Rye Congregational Church, officiated.
