Inda Schofield

LACONIA - Mrs. Inda Schofield, 73, of 57 Wentworth Cove Road, died at Webster at Rye on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000. She was the widow of Edward F. Schofield, who died in 1994.

Mrs. Schofield was born April 7, 1927, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of Carroll L. and Inda F. (Durkee) Dunn. She graduated from LaSalle Junior College and was a 1949 graduate of Boston University with a bachelor's of science in journalism.

She was a medical librarian at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover and Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She had been a resident of Laconia for 27 years, moving here from Williamsport, Pa. While in Pennsylvania, she wrote a newspaper column, "Skiing with Inda." She had summered with her parents in West Alton for many years.

She was a member of the Gilford Community Church. She was an avid reader and taught skiing and tennis. She loved to travel and had her pilot's license. She was an active member of Elderhostel.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. J. Craig Stevens of Clark Fork, Idaho, and H. Brooks Stevens of New Castle; two daughters, I. Krista Loring of Gilford, and Andrea C. Kelly of Willington, Conn.; 11 grandchildren, Lynne Shugar, Olivia Drouin, Jacob Drouin, Allison Stevens, Andrew Stevens, Evan Pesce, Gabrielle Stevens, Patrick Stevens, Timothy Stevens, Amanda Birdsey and David Birdsey; one great-grandchild; a sister, Carol Beane of Naples, Maine; two nephews; and three nieces.

SCHOFIELD - Mrs. Inda Schofield, 73, of 57 Wentworth Cove Road, Laconia, died Oct. 31, 2000. Calling hours will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford. The Rev. Sara Allen, assistant to the pastor of the Gilford Community Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia. Following the service, there will be a gathering of family and friends at 57 Wentworth Cove Road, Laconia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301-5104. Paul A. Gaudard

EXETER - Paul A. Gaudard, 47, of Tamarac, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1953, in Chicopee, Mass., the son of Cecile A. (Shirret) Gaudard of North Hampton and the late Lucien E. Gaudard. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as a computer programmer and consultant. He resided in Tamarac the past seven years and before that lived in Connecticut, Maryland and Ohio.

In addition to his mother, family members include his wife, Debra A. (Longshore) Gaudard of Tamarac; a stepdaughter, Angela Jennings of Indianapolis; a sister, Marie A. Gaudard of Portsmouth; two grandchildren; and cousins.

GAUDARD - Paul A. Gaudard, 47, of Tamarac, Fla., died Oct. 31, 2000. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. This will be followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial held at St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Lt. Col. Emmitte W. Kelly

NEW CASTLE - Lt. Col. Emmitte W. Kelly USAF (Ret.), 82, of 27 Riverview Road, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., after a period of failing health.

Born Dec. 21, 1917, in Pride, La., he was the son of John Henry and Melinda (Smith) Kelly. He had been a resident of New Castle for the past 43 years.

He started his career in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and retired April 30, 1967, from Pease Air Force Base 100th Bomb Wing.

He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Military Blues, Portsmouth Yacht Club, the Island Club and the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joyce (Poinboeuf) Kelly; two daughters, Carolyn Scott and her husband, Richard, of Portsmouth, and Kathleen Creighton of Bradenton, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Scott Rice, Jeffrey Scott and Jaclyn Scott; one great-grandchild; a brother, Glenn Kelly of Denham Springs, La.; and many nieces and nephews.

KELLY - Lt. Col. Emmitte W. Kelly, USAF (Ret.), 82, of 27 Riverview Road, New Castle, died Oct. 31, 2000. A memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Friends invited. No visiting hours. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of N.H., 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

Milton T. Martin

YORK, Maine - Milton T. Martin, 87, of 301 Long Beach Ave., formerly of Topsfield, Mass., died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born on Oct. 25, 1913, in Revere, Mass., he was the son of William and May (McCausland) Martin and was a 1932 graduate of Revere High School.

He helped his father bind textbooks for the school system to earn money during the Depression. He went to work for Wilson Meatpacking in Springfield, Mass., in the accounting department. His brother, Harold Martin, offered him an opportunity to work in the printing trades and they installed the first offset printing presses in the state of Vermont at the Burlington Free Press and in the state of New Hampshire at Capital Offset in Concord.

He later took a position with Rust Craft Greeting Cards of Dedham, Mass., formerly of Boston. During World War II he received top-secret clearance managing the blueprint department for General Electric Co. After the war he established the Milton T. Martin Co. of Saugus, Mass., a printing and publishing company that he operated from 1945 to 1966.

In 1966 he purchased the Sea Latch Motel in York Beach. He had owned and operated seasonal rental properties on Long Sands Beach since 1953.

He had lived in Melrose, Mass., until 1962. He resided in Topsfield from 1962 until 1978 and also lived in Winston-Salem and Greenville, N.C., from 1975 to 1983. He retired to Maine in 1978.

He was a past member of the Rotary Club of Saugus and was an avid sports fan, especially of college basketball and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed traveling and had visited five continents and traveled throughout the United States and Canada in his motor home. He truly enjoyed his beach house in York and had spent time at York Beach since 1932.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary (Whittaker) Martin, who died in 1999, and by two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Milton T. "Sandy" Martin and his wife, Edda, of Durham, N.H., Paul J. Martin of Derry, N.H., and Jeffrey E. Martin, M.D., and his wife, Pam, of Windham; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

MARTIN - Milton T. Martin, 87, of 301 Long Beach Ave., York, Maine, died Nov. 1, 2000. Funeral services are at noon on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Interment in First Parish Cemetery. Visiting hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Milton T. and Mary E. Martin to the American Cancer Society, NE Division Inc., 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011.

Brenda A. Mika

FRANKLIN, N.J. - Brenda A. Mika, 58, died, Nov. 1, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Durham, N.H.

Born July 4, 1942, in Teaneck, the daughter of Ned N. and Agnes (Weisch) Hill, she had resided in Franklin for most of her life.

She was employed as an office manager for H&R Block.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Mika, of Franklin; a daughter, Ann Caldon and her husband, Jeffrey, of Durham; three grandchildren, Melissa L. Caldon, Jordan F. Caldon and Mikal A. Caldon; two sisters, Kathleen Hill of Edison, and Agnes Schick of Nevada; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Mika.

Philip J. Soris

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Philip J. Soris, 76, of 14 Sheffield Road, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Monday, with services at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Portsmouth. the Rev. Angelo Pappas, presbyter, was celebrant. Cantors were Jim Maheras and Spiro Bobotas. Pat Maheras was organist. Ushers were Katherine Jarvis, John Petroulis, Gus Zoulamis, Andrew Bosen and Paul Muryn. Bearers at the church were John Jack, Edward Freeman, Robert Femino, Terry Marinos, Charles Brewster and Chris Poravas.

In attendance were members of the church.

Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by Father Pappas and Spiro Bobotas.

An honor guard was formed by a detachment from the 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, N.Y., under the direction of NCOIC SSG Perry L. Frison, including Sgt. Nathan Beck, Cpl. George Benore, Spc. Donovan Gosney, Spc. Scott Vogt, Pfc. Louis Valencio, Pfc. Marc Ausburn, Pfc. Brian Chapman, Pv2 Terrance Sullivan and Pfc. David Crozier.

A volley was fired under the direction of Sgt. Nathan Beck, including Cpl. George Benore, Spc. Donovan Gosney, Spc. Scott Vogt, Pfc. Louis Valencio, Pfc. Marc Ausburn, Pfc. Brian Chapman, Pv2 Terrance Sullivan and Pfc. David Crozier.

Taps was sounded by Ted Blood III.

The American flag that draped the casket was folded under the direction of Sgt. Nathan Beck, including Cpl. George Benore, Spc. Donovan Gosney, Spc. Scott Vogt, Pfc. Louis Valencio, Pfc. Marc Ausburn, Pfc. Brian Chapman and Pfc. David Crozier and was presented to Mr. Soris' widow, Kiki (Bratiotis) Soris, by NCOIC SSG Perry L. Frison.

Bearers were Cpl. George Benore, Spc. Donovan Gosney, Spc. Scott Vogt, Pfc. Louis Valencio, Pfc. Marc Ausburn, Pfc. Brian Chapman, Pv2 Terrance Sullivan and Pfc. David Crozier.

Wake services were held Sunday evening at the funeral home by Father Pappas.

Alice M. McLaughlin

PORTSMOUTH - Alice M. McLaughlin, 85, of 346 Pleasant St., died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.

She was born in Wentworth, N.H., on Oct. 3, 1915, the daughter of the late Robert A. and Lottie M. (Robinson) McLaughlin.

She was a graduate of N.H. College of Art in Manchester, N.H.

For many years she owned and operated her own reweaving business in Manchester. She also sang in her church choir for many years.

Survivors include a brother, Robert E. McLaughlin, of Rye, N.H.; a nephew, Robert Hemeon, of Laconia, N.H.; two nieces, Nancy McClary, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Deborah Rodier, of Rye, N.H.; and several grandnieces and nephews.

Helen Elizabeth Loch Marshall

EXETER - Helen Elizabeth Loch Marshall, 86, of 14 Garfield St., died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Exeter Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born Sept. 16, 1914, in New Bedford, Mass., daughter of the late Teofil and Antonina (Wodziak) Loch.

She was a lifelong resident of Exeter, having lived at Marshall Farms before moving to Garfield Street. She had attended Robinson Female Seminary. She was an active member of St. Michael's Church and was a former member and past president of the Polish Ladies Society of the church. She was a well known cook, and she worked at the PEA Grill. She was a volunteer at the Exeter Playground and also drove special needs children. She was from a family of nine children. She was a summer resident for 43 years at Bow Lake, Strafford.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Arthur Marshall, of Exeter; two sons, A. Thomas Marshall Jr., of Northwood, and John William Marshall, of Erroll; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony Loch of Portsmouth, and Joseph Loch of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a son, Joseph James Marshal, in 1953.

MARSHALL - Helen Elizabeth Loch Marshall, of Exeter, died Oct. 31, 2000. Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at St. Michael's Church, Exeter. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery.

Barbara C. Daigle

PORTSMOUTH - Barbara C. (Arendt) Daigle, 65, widow of Donald A. Daigle, formerly of Sagamore Avenue, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Portsmouth on Jan. 14, 1935, she was the daughter of Florence (Knight) Smith, of Newmarket, and the late Theodore Arendt.

She attended Portsmouth schools and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School.

She was formerly employed by Data General, formerly of Portsmouth.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose #444 of Portsmouth and an avid gardener. She enjoyed her family and was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Besides her mother, of Newmarket, survivors include four daughters, Patricia J. Cundari, of Alexandria, Va., Donna M. Hand, of Portsmouth, Darlene Pearl, of Newfields, and Deanna Daigle, of Port Orange, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Melveen Anthony, of Portsmouth; 12 grandchildren; five sisters, Norma Curti, of Dover, Priscilla Syphers, of Greenland, Jane Pinney, of Greenland, Gail McKenzie, of Greenland, and Adrienne Rubino, of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Dale A. Daigle, predeceased her.

DAIGLE - Barbara C. (Arendt) Daigle, 65, formerly of Sagamore Avenue, Portsmouth, died Oct. 31, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home, Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Family flowers only. Agostino DiMambro

DOVER - Agostino DiMambro, 86, of Langdon Place, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2000, after a period of failing health.

Born March 8, 1914, in Paris, France, he was the son of Luigi and Teresa (Anarchi) DiMambro.

He was owner/operator of J.A. Grocery.

Survivors include his wife, Madelena (Viola) DiMambro, of Langdon Place, Dover; four brothers, Vincent and Rudolph, of Dover, Marino, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and Robert, of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Genoveffa Lambert, of Dover, and Mary Pulire of Concord.

Herbert T. Hertz

HAMPTON - Herbert T. Hertz, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at the Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.

Born in Boston, Mass., June 1, 1907, he was the son of the late Emil and Clara (Nilson) Hertz.

He worked as a butcher for the Sage Market in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Mass., for many years.

He moved to Hampton in 1974 from Dedham, Mass.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Froio, who died in 1996.

He was the husband of Ebba O. (Rosengren) Hertz for 65 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include one daughter, Sharon Rimbach, of Rye; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

HERTZ - Herbert T. Hertz, of Hampton, died Oct. 28, 2000. Private services were held at the convenience of the family. If desired, donations may be made to either World Vision, 34834 Weyerhaeuser Way South, Federal Way, WA 98001; or the Salvation Army, 15 Middle St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home - Crematory, Hampton.

Bruce C. "Hutch" Hutchings

KITTERY, Maine - Funeral services for Bruce C. "Hutch" Hutchings, 50, of 11 MacDougal St., were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Saturday, with services at the North Congregational Church, Portsmouth. The Rev. Dawn Shippee, pastor, and Chaplain Randy Chapman, of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Mike Vines. Organist was Gary MacDonald, and vocalists were Candice Reish and Chris Alexander. Ceremonial Bos'n was BMC Larry Gadsby. Honor guard at the church were ETCS Elliott, BMC MacKay, MMC Sattler, ETC Schock, SKC Moulton, OSC Cogswell, HT1 Smith and BM1 Horst.

In attendance were a large delegation from the Naval Reserve and former associates from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Burial was in Brooks Memorial Cemetery, with committal services by Chaplain Chapman and the Rev. Shippee. Bagpiper was Gregg Morgan, USMC.

An honor guard was formed at the cemetery by a detachment from Brunswick Naval Air Station, under the direction of AZCS (AW) Hoium, including AEZ (AW) Meyer, AS3 Ferrell, AC3 Edwards, AMH3 Packan, ET3 Tobin, AEAN Derosia, ATAN Place and PRAA Vinh.

A volley was fired under the direction of AEZ (AW) Meyer, including AS3 Ferrell, AC3 Edwards, AMH3 Packan, ET3 Tobin, AEAN Derosia, ATAN Place and PRAA Vinh.

Taps was sounded by Ted Blood III.

The American flag that draped the casket was folded by Naval Reservists, including MMCM Shellenberger, EMCM Grosso, ETCS Cialin, MSC O'Clair, GMC Young, and YNC Long and presented to Hutchings' widow, Erin K. (Hamilton) Hutchings by MMCS Clark.

Pallbearers were MMCM Shellenberger, EMCM Grosso, ETCS Cialin, MSC O'Clair, GMC Young, and YNC Long.

An honor guard was also formed at the funeral home Friday evening to stand watch at the casket, including EM2 John Palmer Jr., ETC Jerry Schock, BMC Larry Gadsby, BMC Chris MacKay, MRC Stephen Bolduc, MMCS Dan Clark, GMC Eric Young, ETCS Jim Elliott, ENC Matt Bryant and MRCS George Chase.

American Legion services were held at the funeral home Friday evening by Frank E. Booma Post No. 36, including Past Cmdr. John Barnes, Chaplain Mike Richards, Color Guard Earl Pettiford and Jr. Vice Cmdr. Mary Pento.

VFW services were also held Friday evening by Kittery-Eliot Post No. 9394, including Sr. Vice Cmdr. Douglas Burnell, Judge Advocate and Adjutant Edward E. Granger Jr. and Rick Cogswell, OSCSW (USNR, Ret.), of the Rodney White Post No. 8270 in Ossipee.
