Richard Talon

Richard L. Talon, 70, of 78B Washington St. died Tuesday December 28, 2004 at his residence.

Born in Dover on March 12, 1934 the son of Joseph Edmond and Laura M. (Blanchette) Talon. He was a graduate of the Dover Schools and lived in Dover for a longtime, moved to Lebanon, ME and came here five years ago. He served in the United States Army.

An avid bingo player and a huge Red Sox fan, and their winning the World Series was his "Happiest Day". "Bob-Bob" had a tremendous love for his grandchildren and family.

He was the former owner and operator of the What's Cooking Restaurant.

He is survived by two sons Brian Talon of Lebanon, ME, Lindsey Talon of Somersworth, two daughters Terry Ferry of Farmington, Donna McCarthy of East Rochester, five grandchildren Ashley McCarthy, Linsey McCarthy, Katryna Talon, Hannah Talon and Erin McCarthy. He also leaves two brothers Roland Talon of Rochester, Felix Talon of Laconia, two sisters Rita Despres of Turner, ME, Doris Miller of Middleton, Delaware and his former wife Margaret Bean and nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents his brothers Louis Talon, Hank Talon and Al Talon predeceased him.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday Dec. 31st from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday Jan. 3rd, 2005 at the Tasker Funeral Home, burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery.

Dubois, Cecile

Cecile O. Dubois, 87, of 15˝ Cemetery Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Somersworth, April 29, 1917, the daughter of Omer and Delia (Dubois) Vellieux. Cemetery Road had been her home since she was 2-years-old.

She was educated at St. Martin Academy and was a communicant of St. Martin Church. Growing up she loved her music and for many years, she was a student of piano with the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

Her many hobbies, reading, knitting, crocheting, playing bingo, and cards kept her busy and very active. She enjoyed traveling, touring many countries in Europe and also many states and provinces of Canada.

Hard working all her life, she worked at Somersworth Shoe, did home moccasin lacing for Weiss-Lawrence for many years, and also worked at Davidson Rubber, and after many years, retired from the Somersworth hot lunch program.

She was the widow of Wilfred Dubois, who died in 1974; two grandsons, Scott Dubois in 2002; and Ronald Lentz in 1962; two brothers, Alfred Vellieux and Raymond Vellieux.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Dubois and his wife, Cecillia, Richard Dubois and his wife, Claire, both of Somersworth, Roland Dubois of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Priscilla Dietmeyer and her husband, Howard, of Las Vegas, Nev., Dolores Lentz and her husband, Fred, of Somersworth; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Dubois, of Somersworth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Lionel Veilleux of Somersworth and Maurice Veilleux of Sanford, Maine; a sister, Lucille Morin of Bluff City, Tenn.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somersworth, N.H.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Martin Church with Fr. Aaron Pffaf, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Dumais-Roberge, Flora

Flora Dumais-Roberge, 91 formerly of Somersworth, died Monday January 31, 2005 at the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, Ma after a period of failing health.

Flora was born in Somersworth on March 27, 1913 and was the daughter of Alfred and Zenida (Fillion) Charrette. She was raised in this community and spent most of her life in Somersworth. For a time she had resided in Clearwater Florida.

Before her retirement, she had been employed with Somersworth Shoe Company and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Family members include her daughters, Mrs. Peter (Arleen) Marashio of Westminster, Ma and Mrs. John (Ann Marie) Foltz of Scottsdale, AZ. 6 grand children and 13 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Her first husband Phillip Dumais and her second husband Lucien Roberge predeceased her.

Calling hours at Bernier Funeral Home 49 South Street, Somersworth, NH will be on Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am in St. Martin Catholic Church, West High and Maple Streets with Rev. Aaron Pfaff, Pastor as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Ferrigno, Anthony

Anthony Joseph Ferrigno of Somersworth died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in the company of loved ones at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover. He was 82.

Mr. Ferrigno was born March 7, 1922, in Lawrence, Mass., son of Anthony and Marietta (Regonese) Ferrigno. He moved to the Seacoast area in 1952 and lived there almost continuously. He recently relocated to Somersworth from Rochester.

He was the husband of Rachel Brown Ferrigno, to whom he had been married for 22 years.

Mr. Ferrigno was an Army veteran of World War II, having served a three-year tour of duty in China, Burma and India.

He was a member of the Elks and American Legion.

Mr. Ferrigno began working as a milkman for Strafford Farms Dairy in 1953. He started Tony’s Bike Shop in Dover in 1958 with $50, a few tools and two used bicycles. His first year at the shop, he continued to deliver milk part time as well as driving a Dover school bus. He later moved the business to a carriage house in town, and eventually to its present location at 10 Fourth St. He opened a Rochester location of the business in 1970 and retired in 1983. The business is still operated by his son, Douglas.

He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, tinkering, inventing and spending time with his family.

“There isn’t a baby boomer in all of southern New Hampshire who doesn’t know Tony’s Bike Shop,” his family said. “His love of all his family and for all children was evident throughout his life, and many children claim he taught them how to ride a bicycle.”

Mr. Ferrigno was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Day Ferrigno, to whom he was married for 35 years and was the mother of his three children. He was also predeceased by a brother, Frank Ferrigno.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Kate Ferrigno of Strafford; two daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Neil Canter of Glendale, Ariz., and Marcia and James Vreeland of Somersworth; grandchildren Lauri (Canter) Johnson and her husband, Jesse, of Hill, Lisa Canter of Derry, Alison (Vreeland) Stauffer and her husband Shane, of Greencastle, Pa., Abraham Vreeland and his wife, Peggy, of York, Maine, Jill (Ferrigno) Helliwell and her husband, Wayne, of Dracut, Mass., and Kelly Ferrigno of Strafford; great-grandchildren Dylan and Chloe Johnson of Hill, Isaac, Hannah, and Ella Vreeland, of York, Maine, and Reagan and Theron Stauffer of Greencastle, Pa.; stepchildren, Susan (Brown) Woodbury and husband Richard of Washington, Dana Brown of Ohio and their children and grandchild; two brothers, Carmello Ferrigno of Somersworth and Joseph Ferrigno of Lawrence, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours: Wiggin Purdy Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral: Faith Baptist Church, 25 Cemetery Road, Somersworth, Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, 11 a.m, Reverend James Vreeland officiating. Burial immediately following service at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Dover Point Road in Dover.

Hartford, Alice

Alice E. Hartford, 82, formerly of 47 Washington St., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Rochester after a period of failing health.

She was born in Dover, July 4, 1922, the daughter of James and Violet (Libby) Yerakes. She was educated in Somersworth Schools and had resided her most of her life.

She had been employed for many years at the Somersworth Hotel.

She was the widow of Rosco Hartford. She was also predeceased by a sister, Melpa Breton, who died in 2004.

Survivors include a brother, Anthony Yerakes and his wife, Doris, of Rochester; a sister, Betty Shaucross of Watertown, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

Hebert, Theresa

Theresa M. Hebert, 77, of 20 Francoeur Drive, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at home after a long period of failing health.

Born in Dover on June 22, 1927, she was the daughter of Archie and Mary (Dube) Gregoire and had been a resident of Somersworth for most of her life. She graduated from St. Charles School in Dover.

Prior to her retirement in 1990, she was a closer in many of the local shoe factories, including Miller Shoe and Colby’s Footwear.

During World War II, she worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Prior to her failing health, she enjoyed spending time with her sisters and spoiling her grandchildren.

She enjoyed reading and was an avid bowler. She loved helping others and taking care of her family. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Somersworth.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of almost 54 years, Armand (Soapy) Hebert; two daughters, Denise (Hebert) Gauthier and her husband, Gary, of Somersworth, Kim (Hebert) Whitten and her husband, Dennis, of Kennebunk, Maine; four grandchildren, Michelle (Gauthier) Savatakis, Brian Gauthier, Brandi and Brenden Whitten; three great-grandchildren, Kearstin Gauthier, Cassidy and Grady Savatakis; two sisters, Beatrice Comtois of Dover and Yvonne Chagnon of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers and six sisters.

Although she will be greatly missed, we are grateful for the time we shared with her, and know she has found peace with God.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Visiting hours at the Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somersworth, on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorials in Theresa’s name may be made to Seacoast Hospice , 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Rautio, Lucille

Lucille N. Rautio, 81, formerly of Somersworth died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Riverside Rest Home in Dover, N.H.

She was born in Claremont, N.H. on Feb. 27, 1923, a daughter of Austin and Laura (Perras) Newell. She graduated from Springfield, Vt. High School in 1942. She was a homemaker all of her life.

She lived in Somersworth, coming from St. Johnsbury, Vt. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene W. Rautio, who died in 1996.

She is survived by a son, Wayne W. Rautio of Nottingham, N.H.; a daughter, Susan Sonnenberg and husband, Donald, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St., Berwick, Maine. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the chapel.

Should friends desire, donations may be made in her name to Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, N.H. 03820.

Roy, Germaine

Germaine M. Roy, 96, of Somersworth, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the Sunbridge Nursing Center in Rochester.

She was born in St. Pie, Quebec, on Sept. 26, 1908, a daughter of Dalvenie J. and Emelie R. Bernard Lajoie.

She was educated in Vermont and was employed by Dover Shoe for many years, retiring in 1972.

She was a communicant of St. Martins Church in Somersworth and a member of its Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Rochester Senior Citizens, the Golden Age Club of Somersworth and St. Jean the Baptist also of Somersworth.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred J. Roy, who died in 1984; five brothers, Bernard Lajoie, Rene Lajoie, Paul Lajoie, Gaetan Lajoie and George Lajoie; and a sister, Armande Perry.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Germaine Roux of Sanford, Maine, and Mrs. Renald Doris Bisson of Rochester; a brother, Joseph Lajoie of Berwick, Maine; three sisters, Angel Robeson of Glendale, Ariz., Clair Gagnon of Berwick, Aline Mercier of Haverhill, Mass.; six grandchildren, Pamela Cooke of West Townsend, Mass., Brian Clapp of Sanford, Suzanne Keays of Gonic, Jeffrey Bisson of East Rochester, Gregory Bisson of Dover, and Christine Kozlowski of Rochester; five great grandchildren, Molly Keays and Maura Keays, both of Gonic, Mariah Bisson and Tyler Bisson, both of East Rochester, and Preston Kozlowski of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St., Berwick, where prayers will be said at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Martin’s Church in Somersworth. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, ME 04016.

Stout, Leona

Leona Marie Wright-Stout, 58, of 678 Sherwood Glenn, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born June 3, 1946, in Rochester, N.H., she was the daughter of Leon and Bertha (Garland) Johnson.

She worked as an inspector for Thermopool in Somersworth. She enjoyed playing bingo, computer games and was an avid reader.

Members of her family include her husband, Thomas Stout, of Somersworth; her children, Nanette Wright of Dover, Nolan Wright of Dover, and Travis Wright of East Rochester; nine grandchildren; a brother, Paul Johnson of Plaistow; and two sisters, Gerry Whitney of Rochester, and Roxanne Peagan of Tampa, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Friday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 249 Canal St., Manchester, N.H., 03101.

Laurel Deschenes

Laurel D. Deschenes, 62, formerly of 2 Pleasant Street went back to the Lord on Christ's Birthday, December 25, 2004. He had been a patient at the Riverside Rest. Home.

Laurel was born in Somersworth on June 29, 1942 and was the son of Alphonse and Jeanne (Harton) Deschenes. He was raised in Somersworth and was a graduate of Somersworth High School. He had lived in this community most of his life but did live in Florida and the Durham and Newmarket area for a time.

Before retirement, he had worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an electrical engineer with over 15 years of service to the yard.

Laurel loved music, and was very good at playing the organ. Everyone knew him has a big joke teller. He was always fond of the woods.

Family members include a son Thomas J. Deschenes and his wife Mayuree of Chaingmai, Thailand, a daughter Laurie Severance and her husband Howard R. Jr. of Somersworth. His grandchildren, Zachariah Alexander Severance and Nicole Deschenes, several cousins, nephews and nieces.

Beside his parents he was predeceased by a brother Paul Deschenes, two sisters, Doreen Chasse and Julie Henry and by a daughter Lisa Jeanne Deschenes.

Calling hours at Bernier Funeral home 49 South Street, Somersworth will be on Thursday from 12:30 to 2:00pm. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 2:00pm with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family request that memorial contributions be made to wherever the Lord places on your heart.

Kakoleski, Alan

Alan J. Kakoleski, 55, of 318 Tri-City Road, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at his residence.

He was born in Hammond, Ind., Nov. 27, 1949, the son of Joseph and Irene (Baines) Kakoleski.

He was educated in Phoenix, Ariz. schools, and had resided there until joining the U.S. Navy, where he served three tours of duty in Vietnam, after which he was a member of the decommissioning crew of the USS Arlington.

He then served in the Seabees, Upon discharge from the Navy, he served with the U.S. Navy Reserves and later with the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in New Castle.

Prior to his service in the Navy, while in high school, he was a member of the Sea Cadets. He had been employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an equipment mechanic marine machinist for 25 years.

He was active as a baseball umpire for 20 years with the Babe Ruth League, American Legion League and the Men's Senior League. He attended The Joe Brinkman Umpiring School, was a member of the Maine Board of Umpires, and most recently was a scout for the Global Scouting Bureau.

In 1996, he was invited to umpire at the National Small College World Series that were held at Fenway Park. He was also a member of American Legion Post 69 of Somersworth.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Charlene (Church) Kakoleski of Merrimack; his mother of Phoenix; three daughters, Cary Elizabeth Kakoleski, Alanna Nicole Kakoleski and Charlene Rallou, all of Merrimack; a sister, Barbara Rhodes and her husband, Delane, of El Dorado, Calif.; a niece and two nephews; and a mother-in-law, Betty Church of Merrimack.

Kilson, Lillian

Lillian Mary Kilson, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005.

She was born in Washington, Conn., June 25, 1928, the daughter of Alfred and Lillian (Nichols) Wyant. She was an avid gardener and animal lover . She also enjoyed trips to Connecticut to see her many brothers and sisters. She was the thread that connected the family together and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Earl A. Kilson, of Somersworth; her children, Diane Berg, of Sanford, Maine, Cheryl Elrich and her husband, Larry, of Bangor, Maine, and Keenan Kilson and his wife, Linda, of Sanford, Maine; and her grandchildren, Matthew Berg, and Katie Meagher and her husband, Steve.
