Margaret Alberts, 62
Retired Guard; Former Floral Designer at Area Shops
Margaret Alberts, 62, of Roselle Park died on Friday, July 24, 1998 at the Kenilworth home of her son, William Dalton.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Mountainside before moving to Roselle Park 15 years ago.
Mrs. Alberts had been employed by Union County College at the Plainfield campus for 10 years as a security guard before retiring this year.
Earlier, she had been a floral designer for various floral shops in the Union County area.
Also surviving are two other sons, Timothy Linkevich and Patrick Linkevich; a brother, Michael Smith, and two sisters, Mary Krech and Ann J. Ferguson.
A Mass was offered on Monday, July 27, in St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in Linden, following the funeral from the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home in Linden.

Robert J. Smith, 74
Robert J. Smith, 74, of Bedminster died on Monday, July 27, 1998 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Scotch Plains and Watchung before moving to Bedminster in 1990.
He had served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Smith had owned and operated the Nilsen-Smith Sheet Metal Company in Bedminster for over 45 years.
Surviving are four sons, Jeffrey Smith of Long Valley, Paul Smith of Bedminster and Glen Smith and Todd Smith, both of Watchung; two daughters, Christine Hamburg of Old Field, New York and Nancy Massa of Stockton, and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, July 31, at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Frederick S. Barkalow, 82
Veteran; Squadron Supported Flying Tigers
Frederick S. Barkalow, 82, of Plainfield died on Sunday, July 26, 1998 at the Robert Wood Johnson, Jr. Health Care Center in Plainfield.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Plainfield since 1947.
Mr. Barkalow had worked for RCA in Harrison as a maintenance supervisor for 28 years before retiring in 1975.
He was a Master Sergeant with the 27th Troop Carrier Squadron of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
His squadron supported General Claire Lee Chennault’s Flying Tigers, flying supplies over the “hump” in China. Mr. Barkalow received the Bronze Star for his service.
He was a member of the Terrill Road Bible Chapel in Fanwood.
Mr. Barkalow was predeceased by his wife, Dorothea Vackner Barkalow, in 1987.
Surviving are a son, Mark S. Barkalow of South Plainfield; a daughter, Phyllis E. Smith of Colonial Heights, Virginia; a brother, Harold Barkalow of Virginia, and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, July 30, at noon at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, in Fanwood. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Iroquonia, care of Terrill Road Bible Chapel, 535 Terrill Road, Fanwood, 07023.

Antoinette Musacchio, 84
Taught School; Held Degree from Columbia University
Antoinette Rombi Musacchio, 84, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania died on Saturday, July 25, 1998 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.
Born in Italy, she had immigrated to Brooklyn at the age of six. She and her husband had lived in Rahway before moving to Westfield, where she resided for more than 30 years. She had also lived in Mountainside for several years before moving to Bensalem a few years ago.
Mrs. Musacchio graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a master’s degree in education. She had taught in the Westfield school system periodically while raising her three children.
She was a former member of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband of more than 50 years, Thomas A. Musacchio, Sr.; two sons, Thomas Musacchio, Jr. of New Jersey and Joseph Musacchio of Madison, Wisconsin; a daughter, Anette Dacey of Pittstown; two brothers, Joseph Rombi of Rahway and Peter Rombi of Sayville, New York, and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Church.
Arrangements are being handled by the Hancock Funeral Home in Philadelphia.

Ethel L. Shayon, 94
Was Volunteer; Officer in League of Women Voters
Ethel L. Shayon, 94, of Scotch Plains died on Monday, July 27, 1998 at the Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains.
Born in Ellenville, New York in 1904 to Louis and Celia Liese, she had lived in New York City, Beverly Hills, California, Marshall, Virginia, and Red Bank and Edison before moving to Scotch Plains in 1995.
Mrs. Shayon was a lifelong volunteer, serving as an officer of the League of Women Voters in New York City and Beverly Hills, and was cited for her outstanding work on behalf of the Marshall, Virginia Rescue Squad.
She served into her 90s as a reader to the elderly and blind in Red Bank, and also as a mentor-reader to first and second-grade urban children in that community.
Mrs. Shayon was one of the first residents of Scotch Plains Senior Housing and one of the most senior and, was involved in activities there and later at Marriott Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Edison.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Shayon, in 1984.
Surviving are a daughter, Manya S. Ungar of Scotch Plains; a brother, Stanley Liese of White Lake, New York; two grandsons, and four great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, on Saturday, August 8, at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of New Jersey, 240 Forsgate Drive, Jamesburg, 08831, or to the Cancer Research Institute, 681 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York, 10022.

Anna Deo, 89
Anna Deo, 89, of Lanoka Harbor died on Monday, July 27, 1998 in the Community Medical Center in Toms River.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Mountainside before moving to Lanoka Harbor in 1972.
Mrs. Deo was a member of the Friends of Lacey Library, the Italian American Club, the Women’s Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus Council No. 6522, the Lady Guard and the American Association of Retired Persons, all of Lacey Township. She was also a charter member of the Lacey Seniors.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph P. Deo and Patrick A. Deo; two brothers, Thomas Pucciarella and Joseph Pucciarella; two sisters, Lillian Hellriegal and Marge Petri; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be offered tomorrow, Friday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Forked River.
Arrangements are being handled by the Riggs Funeral Home in Forked River.

John Henderson, Jr., 63
John Henderson, Jr., 63, of Rahway died on Saturday, July 25, 1998 at home.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Mr. Henderson had lived in Westfield before moving to Rahway four years ago.
Mr. Henderson was a security officer with Concept Security in Harrison for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Jeannette Henderson; a daughter, Diane Blackwell, and a brother, Junius Henderson.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow, Friday, July 31, at 10 a.m. in the Jones Funeral Home in Rahway.
