Kathleen B. Darge, 45
Kathleen B. Darge, 45, of Scottsdale, Arizona died on Saturday, March 6, 1999 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.
Born in Plainfield, she had lived in South Plainfield before moving to Scottsdale six years ago.
Miss Darge was a sales clerk at DeMarco Gift Store in Phoenix, Arizona for the past five years.
She was predeceased by her son, Justin Weirich, in 1976, and by her father, David Darge, Sr.
Surviving are her mother, Barbara Blackwood Darge, and her stepfather, Salvatore Perrette, both of Scottsdale, and three brothers, David Darge, Jr. of Scotch Plains, Donald Darge of Beach Haven and Kenneth Darge of Tempe, Arizona.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, March 11, at 8 p.m. at the James W. Conroy Funeral Home in South Plainfield.
There will be no visitation.

Mary Jane McCormack
Mary Jane McCormack, 79, of Palm Coast, Florida died on Saturday, March 6, 1999 at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Palm Coast.
Born in Union, she had lived in Fanwood and in Spartanburg, South Carolina before moving to Palm Coast in 1989.
Mrs. McCormack was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Jack McCormack; two daughters, Gail Condon of Severna Park, Maryland and Lynn Villa of Palm Coast; a son, Robert McCormack of Westfield; two sisters, Frances Herrmann and Gabriel Mullin; a brother, William Stevens; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Thursday, March 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, to be followed by a reception.
A memorial service will also be held at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield on Saturday, March 20, at 9:30 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Terrace, Port Orange, Florida, 32119.

Mary K. Counts, 71
Mary K. Counts, 71, of Rahway died on Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Scotch Plains, she had lived in Plainfield before moving to Rahway 47 years ago.
Mrs. Counts had been a keypunch operator for Swift Company in Union for 10 years before retiring in 1983.
She had also worked as an assembler for R.C.A. in Clark.
She was a member of the Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Rahway for 40 years.
She was predeceased by a brother, James A. E. Ingram, in August.
Surviving are her husband, John S. Counts, Sr.; two sons, John S. Counts, Jr. of Cranford and Charles F. Counts of Rahway and a brother, James A. Ingram of Pasadena, Calif.
Funeral services took place on Tuesday, January 18, at the Ebenezer Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.

Dorothy Mihalak, 78
Dorothy Mihalak, 78, of Ponce Inlet, Fla. died on Saturday, January 15, 2000 in the Memorial Hospital in Peninsula, Fla.
Born in Brockton, Mass., she had lived in Westfield before moving to Florida in 1971.
Mrs. Mihalak had been employed as a saleswoman with the A1 Employment Agency of New Jersey in Union County before retiring.
She was a graduate of LaSalle Junior College in Newton, Mass.
Surviving are her husband, Peter Mihalak; two daughters, Taylor Payne and Linda Martin; a sister, Barbara LaPlace; a brother, Kenneth Simonds; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 9: 30 a.m. today, Thursday, January 20, in the Haeberle & Barth Colonial Home in Union.

Antoinette Jennette
Antoinette L. Mattei Jennette of Union died on Saturday, January 15, 2000 at home.
Born in Kearny, she had lived there before moving to Union 44 years ago.
Mrs. Jennette had been employed as an assembler with RCA in Harrison for 20 years before retiring 23 years ago.
She was a member of the Rosary Society at St. Genevieve’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse Jennette. Surviving are two sons, Anthony Jennette of Westfield and Emilio Jennette of Freehold; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A gathering will take place beginning at 9 a.m. today, Thursday, January 20, at the McCracken Funeral Home in Union, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Genevieve’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street, Linden, 07036.

Leroy F. Hilzinger, 79
Navy Veteran; Active With Old Guard of Westfield
Leroy F. Hilzinger, 79, of Westfield died on Saturday, January 15, 2000 in the Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network of Westfield.
Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Westfield 46 years ago.
Mr. Hilzinger had been an accounting manager in the data processing department of Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick for many years before retiring in 1985.
He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from New York University.
Mr. Hilzinger served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the Old Guard of Westfield, where he served as Treasurer and participated on the bowling team.
He was also a bookkeeper for the Manor Park Swim Club and a parishioner and usher at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church, both in Westfield.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Sweeney Hilzinger; a son, Roy Hilzinger of Glen Rock; a daughter, Mary T. Hubbard of Medfield, Mass.; two sisters, Margaret Craig of Greenlawn, N.Y. and Alice Drenker of Anaheim, Calif., and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered yesterday, Wednesday, January 19, in St. Helen’s Church.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street, Linden, 07036.

Dr. Robert Miner, Jr., 81
Had Helped Find Method for Distributing Penicillin
Dr. Robert S. Miner Jr., 81, of Westfield, who fulfilled his boyhood dream of seeing the year 2000 following a distinguished career in science and education, died on Friday, January 14, in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Chicago, he lived in Westfield since 1947.
Dr. Miner began his professional career in the pharmaceutical industry as a key member of the team at Merck & Company, Inc. in Rahway that developed the procedure for the massive production of penicillin.
After World War II, he joined Ciba-Geigy in Summit and eventually became Director of Chemical Manufacturing before retiring from the company in 1969.
Dr. Miner, who had contracted polio in 1950, subsequently took a less physically demanding position at Princeton University.
He completed an 11year career that included administrative and laboratory research work and three National Science Foundation sponsored assignments to the Soviet Union before retiring in 1981.
He later served as a chemical manufacturing consultant on assignments in China, Brazil, Turkey, Peru and throughout North America.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Chicago, he earned a Doctoral Degree from Princeton University.
Dr. Miner was recognized in 1996 as one of three Princeton alumni to receive the university’s Alumni Council Award for Service during its 250th anniversary celebration.
He also was formally recognized that year in Chicago for his outstanding contributions to his undergraduate alma mater.
Dr. Miner served as a Deacon, Elder and choir member at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
He was a past President of the Westfield Board of Education and a former board member of the Westfield Y and the Westfield Adult School.
He also chaired the Westfield United Fund Drive and served in various capacities at Union County College.
Dr. Miner was active with the Westfield Men’s Glee Club and the American Chemical Society and was a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Evelyn Richey Miner; two daughters, Becky Jane Miner and Esther Davis Almgren; a son, R. Scott Miner, 3rd, and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, January 18, in The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Funeral Service of New Jersey in Hillside.
Memorial donations may be made to The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
