Thomas J. Zych, 42
Thomas J. Zych, 42, of Westfield died on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Union, he lived in Westfield for 37 years.
Mr. Zych was a groundskeeper for the Union County Parks and Recreation Department for 15 years, working at Union County parks and golf courses.
He was a member of the New Jersey Mineralogical Society and Trailside Mineral Club at the Trailside Museum in Mountainside.
Mr. Zych was a 1976 graduate of Wardlaw High School and attended Union County College.
He was predeceased by his father, Joseph J. Zych.
Surviving are his mother, Catherine A. Zych of Westfield, and two sisters, Karen A. Fahrion and Valerie A. Clayton.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered yesterday, Wednesday, June 21, at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment took place at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
Memorial donations may be made to either Wegener’s Disease Research or to Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.

Frank P. Jannuzzi, 86
Was Employed As Computer Systems Analyst in Utah; Had Been County Corrections Officer
Frank P. Jannuzzi, 86, of Basking Ridge died on Sunday, June 18, 2000 in Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown.
Born in North Plainfield, he had lived in Fanwood, Salt Lake City and Port Richey, Fla., before moving to Basking Ridge four years ago.
Mr. Jannuzzi had been a computer systems analyst with the Kennecott Corporation in Salt Lake City, Utah, for 25 years before retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the Fanwood Rescue Squad and the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Jannuzzi; two sons, John A. Jannuzzi and Paul Jannuzzi; three daughters, Nadine Sicola, Diane Horning and Jayne Shontell; a sister, Ange Dobson, and 12 grandchildren.
A Mass will be offered at 10 a. m. today, Thursday, June 22, in Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Warren, following the funeral from the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung.

Joseph G. Piano, 75
Decorated Veteran;
Joseph G. Piano, 75, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Plainfield, he lived in Scotch Plains since 1950.
Mr. Piano had been employed as a corrections officer by the Union County Department of Corrections in Elizabeth for 27 years before retiring in 1985.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and participated in the D-Day landing at Normandy Beach.
Mr. Piano received a Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation and three Bronze Stars.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 335 in Cranford and Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local No. 199 in Union County, and a charter member of the Plainfield Rescue Squad.
Surviving are a daughter, Valorie M. Grausso; a son, Vincent Grausso; two sisters, Rose Frattarulo and Eleanor Apgar; a brother, Paul Grausso; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, June 17, in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, following the funeral from the Rossi Funeral Home, also in Scotch Plains.

Abram Altschule, 61
Executive Recruiter; Had Also Performed Part-Time as Clown
Abram S. Altschule, 61, of Edison died on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at home.
Born in Newark, Mr. Altschule had lived in Hillside and Westfield before moving to Edison five years ago.
Mr. Altschule had been an executive recruiter, involved with the placement of risk managers for Logic Associates in New York City for many years.
He also worked part-time as “Harkey the Clown” at various events in the New Jersey area.
He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bloomfield College in 1960 and graduated from clown school in Westfield in 1979.
He was a member of the Men’s Club of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are two sons, Howard Altschule and Joshua Altschule; a sister, Marsha A. Heyman, and a brother, Joel M. Altschule.
Services were held on Monday, June 19, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Joseph P. Albanese, 66
Architect; Played for Boston Red Sox
Joseph Peter Albanese, 66, of Sea Bright died on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
Born in New York City, he had lived in Middlesex County before moving to Sea Bright in 1997.
Mr. Albanese had been an architect in New Brunswick for more than 30 years before retiring in 1998 and formerly served as Commissioner of the Middlesex County Utilities Authority in Sayreville.
After graduating from New Brunswick High School, he was drafted and played for the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Senators.
He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Asbury Park and served on the Board of Trustees of both the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, the former Yvonne Maragoudakis; five daughters, Joanne Kulat of Shrewsbury, Laura Reiley of Avenel, Christy Di Robbio of Colonia, Nancy Albanese of Plainsboro and Jennifer Castelo of Ocean Township; his mother, Victoria Fillocco of New Brunswick, and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral service was held yesterday, Wednesday, June 21, at St. George Church.
Interment took place in St. George Cemetery in Neptune.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Asbury Park.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Taylor & Lopez Funeral Home in Neptune.

Florence S. Pedersen, 73
Parishioner; Former Secretary at Evangel Church
Florence S. Pedersen, 73, of Scotch Plains died on Friday, July 3, 1998 at home.
Born in Middlesex, she had lived in Westfield before relocating to Scotch Plains 15 years ago.
Mrs. Pedersen was a member of the Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, where she had also worked as the church secretary before retiring in 1986.
She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Willey.
Surviving are her husband, the Reverend Hans Pedersen; a daughter, Kathi Olsen of Westfield, and three brothers, Cyril Blood of Brick, Robert Blood of Cranbury, and Richard Blood of Inverness, Florida.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 6, at the Evangel Church, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Eleanor Meserve, 84
Taught English; Was Active in Congregational Church
Eleanor Holmes Meserve, 84, of Westfield died on Saturday, July 4, 1998 in Madison, Connecticut.
Born in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts on June 7, 1914, she was the daughter of the late George Wendell and Katherine Fraser Holmes, and had been a resident of Westfield since 1943.
Mrs. Meserve graduated from Bridgewater State Teachers College in 1935.
She had taught junior high school English from 1935 until 1947, first in East Bridgewater and later in Cranford.
From 1966 until 1979 she had been employed by the Westfield Public Schools, teaching seventh-grade English at Roosevelt Junior High School, now Roosevelt Intermediate School.
She had been a member of the First Congregational Church in Westfield since 1947, where she was active in the Women's Fellowship and taught Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Meserve had been active in the Alumni Association of Bridgewater State College and the College Club of Westfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles L. Meserve.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Charles Meserve of Marblehead, Massachusetts; a daughter, Vanessa M. Ballantine of Madison, Connecticut; a sister, Alyce Cool of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. in the First Congregational Church of Westfield.
Burial will take place at the Norwich University Cemetery in Northfield, Vermont.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Congregational Church of Westfield, or to the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad.
The Swan Funeral Home of Madison, Connecticut is in charge of the arrangements.
