GEORGE W. GARO, 77, of HOWELL, died Tuesday, June 13, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Garo was born in Thune, Switzerland, and came to America in 1954, settling in the Tottenville section of Staten Island before moving to Howell in 1964. He was a veteran of the Grenadier Swiss Army. He was an alumni of New York University, receiving his degree in engineering. He was a structural safety engineer for Public Service Mutual of New York for over 33 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Chapter 182 of New Jersey. He was a charter member of the Howell Police Department since before the formation of the full-time police force. He was currently a part-time Class II police officer for the Howell Police Department. He was a past master mason at the Humboldt Lodge 512 F&AM, New York, and was currently a member of the Olive Branch 16 Lodge, Freehold. He was also a past patron of the Molly Pitcher Lodge Chapter 198, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the BMW Motorcycle Club Worldwide, and was a member of the Blue Knights of New Jersey.
Surviving are his wife, Tania Solenko Garo; a daughter, Randy Lee Garo of Tucson, Ariz.; many cousins in Switzerland; his adopted children, Natasha and George Brick of Jackson; his adopted grandchildren, Walter and Elena Brick of Jackson; and his good friend, Robert Browne of Howell.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Garo may be made to the Masonic Home of NJ, Development Office, 902 Jacksonville Road, Burlington, NJ 08016.

NICHOLAS J. GERACI, 88, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died Saturday, Aug. 26, at John L. Montgomery Care Center, Freehold. Mr. Geraci was born in New York, N.Y., and had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before settling in Freehold in 1984. He worked as an investigator for the State of New York, Department of Social Services, Pharmacy Division, retiring in 1989. Prior to that, he retired as a pharmacist, working primarily in Brooklyn. Mr. Geraci was a parishioner of the Church of St. Robert Bellarmine, Freehold. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Coast Guard.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah; one brother; and three sisters. Surviving are a son, Gerard Geraci of Freehold Township; a daughter, Mary Morita of New York, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal, followed by his 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at The Church of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold. Burial will follow at Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y.

CLAIRE H. GIANNATTASIO, 58, of HOWELL, died Saturday, Dec. 9, at home. Mrs. Giannattasio was born in Perth Amboy and had lived there until moving to Howell in 1981. She was a parishioner of The Church of St. Veronica, Howell, and was a 1970 graduate of Montclair State College. Mrs. Giannattasio was a high school math teacher for the Old Bridge Township school system since 1970.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Chesterine Rolak. Surviving are her husband, Anthony Giannattasio of Howell; a son, Matthew Giannattasio of Howell; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jason O'Brien of Brick; her soon-to-be-born granddaughter, Emma; two brothers, John Rolak of Washington, N.J., and Raymond Rolak of Bayville.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. Relatives and friends may gather at 8: 30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9: 30 a.m. at The Church of St. Veronica, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Giannattasio may be made to the Hands of Hope Inc., P.O. Box 364, Farmingdale, NJ 07727.

ANTHONY SCOTT GIGLIO, 25, of Cape Canaveral, Fla., formerly of FARMINGDALE, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Holmes Regional Hospital, Melbourne, Fla., where he generously donated his organs to help others. Mr. Giglio was born in Long Branch and lived in Farmingdale before moving to Cape Canaveral in 1991. He graduated from Ardena School, Howell, and attended high school in Florida. He was a member of "Da Truth" basketball team. They are the 2006 Hoop-It-Up World Champions and are ranked #1 nationally. Mr. Giglio was a foreman for MCM Construction, Cape Canaveral.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, John "Sonny" Giglio in 2002. Surviving are his father and stepmom, Randy Giglio and Athena Abadiotakis-Giglio of Ocean Gate; his mother, Maureen Dunphy-Giglio of Howell; four brothers, Nicholas, Christian, Julian and Randy Giglio, all of Ocean Gate; one sister, Alyssa Giglio of Ocean Gate; a paternal grandmother, Marie Giglio of Farmingdale; and a maternal grandmother, Maureen Dunphy of Tampa, Fla.; his yia-yia, Maria Abadiotakis of Brick; seven uncles and 8 aunts; 22 cousins; and his faithful canine companion, Nicci.

A memorial gathering will be offered from 6 to 8: 30 p.m. Monday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral service at 8: 30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private. Please kindly omit flowers.

MARY K. "MANIA" GIJANTO, 61, of HOWELL and North Hutchinson Island, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Mrs. Gijanto was born in Jersey City and lived there before moving to Ridgefield Park and to Millville. She then settled in Howell in 1980 and spent time in North Hutchinson Island, Fla. She was a former parishioner and CCD teacher at St. Veronica's Catholic Church, Howell, and St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold Township. Mrs. Gijanto was a past president of the PTO at Land O' Pines Elementary School, Howell. Mrs. Gijanto was a Labor and Delivery Nurse at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township since 1980.

She was predeceased by her son, Joseph L., in 1995; and her parents, Florence and James Howley. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Gijanto of Howell, and North Hutchinson Island, Fla.; four daughters, Jill Gijanto of Teaneck, Susan Gijanto of Howell, Liza Gijanto of Syracuse, N.Y., and Pamela Gijanto of Howell; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy Howley of Little Falls, Eileen and Louis DeMicco of Teaneck, and Patricia Howley of Woodbridge; six nephews; and two nieces.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. Relatives and friends may gather at 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Veronica's Catholic Church, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi.

T. DOUG GILLESPIE, 79, of Adelphia, HOWELL, died Monday, April 2, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Gillespie was born in Mortlach, Canada, moving to the United States in 1937. He attended Freehold area schools. He was drafted into the Army at age 18, and was sent to Europe, where he was attached to the Graves Registration as an identification analyst. He traveled all over Europe to battlefields, reclaiming the remains of American servicemen killed during World War II for burial in central cemeteries or shipping them home. Mr. Gillespie then served in records and research during the investigations in Versailles for the Nuremberg Trials regarding those involved in the Holocaust until his discharge. Mr. Gillespie was a member of the Adelphia Fire Company in Howell, joining in 1953 and serving actively for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 54, Freehold. Mr. Gillespie was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed wildlife photography and carving and painting decoys. By far, his favorite times in his later years were spent with his children and grandchildren and traveling with family. He worked in the Special Maintenance Department at Monmouth County Parks System for 15 years, retiring in 1991. Prior to that, he worked for Freehold Ford (formerly Cameron Roberson Ford) as an auto mechanic and later as a service manager until 1976.

He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters; three brothers; and three nephews. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Virginia Louquet Gillespie; two daughters, Christine G. Sague and her husband Garrett of Beachwood, and Laurieanne G. Patterson and her husband Carl of the Ardena section of Howell; two sons, Douglas Gillespie and his wife Valerie of Brielle, and Thomas D. and his wife Alison, of Coopersburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Fiona, Genevieve, and Abigail Gillespie, Kathleen and Margaret Gillespie, and Austin and Kendall Patterson; and several nieces and their families.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. Thursday until his funeral service at 8 p.m. at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township, with the Rev. Harvey Kelley officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Ardena Cemetery, Howell.

FREDERICK GOLDSMITH, 76, of FARMINGDALE, died Monday, July 2, at home. Mr. Goldsmith was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in Edison before moving to Farmingdale in 1992. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Goldsmith was a member of the Lacey Golf Association. Mr. Goldsmith was an insulation estimator for G.B.I. Insulation, Edison and Farmingdale until his retirement in 1992. Prior to that, Mr. Goldsmith worked at the Ford Assembly Plant, Edison, retiring in 1987.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Reed Goldsmith, in 2006. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Peake Goldsmith; four sons, Thomas Goldsmith, Randall Goldsmith, Michael Goldsmith and Ronald Goldsmith, all of Farmingdale; a daughter, Cathy Goldsmith of Farmingdale; a brother, William Van Doren of Florida; two sisters, Edith Barber of Edison and Julia Kistler of Metuchen; and 10 grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at noon Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Goldsmith may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 18 Ryers Lane, Matawan, NJ 07747, and would be appreciated.

REED CHRISTOPHER GOLDSMITH, 26, of FARMINGDALE, died Friday, Aug. 18, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Reed was born in Edison and lived there until moving to Farmingdale in 1992. Mr. Goldsmith was a sheet metal worker for Local 19 in Philadelphia, and was working for Thermal Piping in Wrightstown for the past six years. Reed was a 1998 graduate of Howell High School.

Surviving are his parents, Thomas and Debra R. Goldsmith of Farmingdale; a brother, Wesley Goldsmith of Farmingdale; two sisters, Mallory Goldsmith of Freehold Township, and Alexandra Goldsmith of Farmingdale; his maternal grandparents, Billy and Lorraine Reed of Holgate, LBI; his paternal grandparents, Frederick and Marilyn Goldsmith of Farmingdale; and his aunts and uncles, Ronald and Judi Goldsmith, Randall Goldsmith, Michael and Nancy Goldsmith, and Cathy Goldsmith, all of Farmingdale.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Committal will be private.

BERNARD J. GOLDWATER, 74, of Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of HOWELL, died Thursday, July 5, at South Bay Hospital, Sun City Center. Mr. Goldwater was born in Newark and lived in Howell before moving to Sun City Center in 2004.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was also a former member of the Sunrise Optimist Club, Freehold, and a member of the Sun City Center softball team. He was elected to the NJSIAA Coaches Hall of Fame, The Shore Conference Hall of Fame, and the Freehold Township Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Goldwater was a health and physical education teacher in the Freehold Regional School System for 40 years, retiring in 1998. He had taught at Freehold Borough High School, Howell High School, and Freehold Township High School, where he was also athletic director and department supervisor. He coached baseball at both Howell High School and Freehold Township High School for a total of 26 years.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Goldwater; four sons, Mitchell Goldwater of Mansfield, Pa., Randy Goldwater of Manhattan, and Kyle Goldwater and Brian Goldwater, both of Freehold; and two sisters, Betty Goldsman of Livingston and Murial Meskin of West Palm Beach, Fla.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township, with Cantor Wayne Siet officiating. Interment will follow in Freehold Hebrew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bernard's memory may be made to Camp Quality of New Jersey, P.O. Box 264 Adelphia, NJ 07710, and would be appreciated.

RUTH GOLOMBEK, 80, of OCEANPORT, died Monday, Feb. 5, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Surviving is a daughter, Eva Castellano of Oceanport. Graveside services were held on Tuesday at Floral Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.

MAXWELL GLAZER, 76, of FREEHOLD, died Thursday, June 21, at The Brookside, Freehold. Mr. Glazer was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in the Grandville section of Staten Island and Manalapan before moving to Freehold in 2003. Mr. Glazer was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 3. Mr. Glazer worked in sales at L.B. Electric Supply Company, Brooklyn, N.Y., for over 30 years, retiring in 1996.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Glazer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mindy and Douglas Wille of Freehold Township, and Barbara Glazer and Philip Morton of Los Angeles, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sherri Rogers of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Saul and Renee Glazer of Florida; and four grandchildren, Jennifer, David, and Jonathan Wille, and Daniel Rogers.

Receiving of friends will be from 9 a.m. today until his funeral service at 9: 30 a.m. at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
