Catherine L. (Pryor) Zimmerman, 88, of Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 28, 2009.

Born in Buena Vista, VA, she resided in Elizabeth for 50 years, before moving to Cliffwood Beach 9 years ago. She was a homemaker.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Edward Zimmerman, in 2000; and her parents, Fred and Nellie Pryor. Surviving are her children and their spouses; Joanne and Sam Connor of Leonardo; Katherine and Leon Van Dyke of Cliffwood Beach; Edward and Monica Zimmerman, Jr. of West Hartford, CT; and Marie Zimmerman of Stirling; a brother, Fred Pryor of Amherst, VA; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited Friday, 2-4 and 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ; and Saturday, 9: 30AM, with a 10AM service at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Linden.

Joseph V. O’Shea, 79, of Cheesequake Village, passed away, Monday, January 26, 2009, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Born in East Rutherford, he resided in Matawan, before moving to Old Bridge in 1988. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor.

Joseph is survived by his children, a son, Timothy O’Shea of Pt. Pleasant Beach; and a daughter, Susan Smith of Colchester, CT; four grandsons, Colin, Ryan, Timmy and Shane; and two great grandsons, Justin and Riley.

Family and friends are invited Friday, from 11AM, with a 12PM service at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport. Cremation will be private.

Marie Kanter, 94, of Holmdel, passed away, Monday, January 26, 2009, at Arnold Walter Nursing Center, Holmdel, NJ.

Born in Scranton, PA, she resided in Brooklyn, before moving to Holmdel five years ago. Marie had worked in the family business of Grand Cleaners, NYC. She was an avid sports fan of golf, baseball and football.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Philip Kanter, in 1991; her parents, John and Caroline (Wirth) Slangan; a sister, Eleanor Hanson; and a brother, John Slangan. Surviving are her children, a daughter, Linda Puccia, of Middletown and a son, Roger Kanter, of New York City; four grandchildren, Greg and Karen Puccia; and Justin and Josh Kanter; and two great grandchildren, Jenna and Zach Puccia.

Cremation was private. A memorial gathering will take place on Thursday, 6-8PM, with a 7PM service, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport.

Marybeth Hammill, 49, of Union Beach, passed away, at home on Monday, January 26, 2009.

Born in Jersey City, she resided there until moving to Union Beach 31 years ago. She was a communicant of Holy Family RC Church, Union Beach.

Marybeth was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Elizabeth (O’Grady) Hammill; and a sister, Patricia Hammill in 2004. Surviving are her siblings, Gail Hammill of Union Beach; Elizabeth Hammill of Brick; Sharon and husband, Ray Duffy of Tenafly; Kathleen Geronimo of Brick; Kenneth Hammill of Staten Island and his companion, Desma Dunne; James and wife, Carleen Hammill of Union Beach; and Joseph Hammill of Union Beach. She was the aunt to eight nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, and Thursday, 9AM at the funeral home, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family RC Church, Union Beach. Interment to follow at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.

Robert “Bob” S. Coiner, 65, of Hazlet, passed away, Sunday, January 25, 2009, at home.

Born in Tacoma Park, MD, he resided in Brick and Wanamassa, before moving to Hazlet in 1998. He was a logistician with the Naval Weapons Station, Earle, from 1962, until his retirement in 2000. Since 1975, he was a member of the YRSC (Year Round Sports Club), Forked River; from 1965, he was a member of the Moose Lodge #1521, West Virginia; and from 1989, a Free Mason Ocean Lodge, Spring Lake. He served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam Era.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert W. and Ruth Painter Coiner. Surviving is his loving spouse and friend, Julia Coleman Coiner; a son, Robert T. Coiner of Red Bank; a son and daughter-in-law, Christian and Stacey Coiner of Howell; and a daughter and son-in-law, Bethany Lynn and Michael DeGilio of Ocean Twp.; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Tom Shepard of Bradentown, FL; five grandchildren, Christina, Max and Michael DeGilio; and Rebecca and Brandon Coiner; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Friday, 10: 30AM, with an 11AM Service at the funeral home. Cremation is private.

Eileen Coleman, 83, of Hazlet, passed away, Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.

Born October 21, 1925 in New York City, she moved to Leonardo in 1973. In the 1940’s, she worked as an operator for Bell Telephone, NYC.

Eileen was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1991; and five brothers, James, Thomas, Joseph, John and Michael. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, James and Ramona of Cape Coral, FL; Kevin and Deborah of Bronx, NY; Daniel of Hazlet; Christopher and Patricia of Matawan; Andrew of Hazlet; Nancy of Aberdeen; and Jane and John Miller of New Monmouth; a sister, Joan Kopcinski of Sleepy Hollow, NY;14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Thursday, 8: 30AM with a 9: 15AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport. Interment to follow at Bayview Cemetery, Leonardo.

William H. Johanson, 88, of Knoxville, TN, passed away, Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the Knoxville VA Hospital.

Born in Manhattan, he resided in Holmdel and Charlotte, NC, before moving to Tennessee, two years ago. He was an office manager with Leif, Foster, Werle, Manhattan, for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He served his country in the Army during WWII.

William was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Barrett in 1996; and his parents, Gottfried and Vera (Chemka) Johanson. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-laws, Jeffrey and Isabel Johanson of Nashua, NH; and Timothy and Patti Johanson of Knoxville, TN; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dan Hunt of Corolla, NC; six grandchildren; three great granddaughters; a brother-in-law, William Barrett of Long Island; and one nephew.

Family and friends are invited Tuesday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Wednesday, 8: 30AM, with a 9: 15AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, Keyport. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Josephine Galiastro, 88, loving mother and grandmother, of Hazlet, passed away, Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Born in Jersey City, she resided there, before moving to Hazlet 40 years ago. She was a homemaker, a communicant of St. Benedict’s Church, Holmdel, and a member of the Holy Rosary Society. Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Frank Galiastro, in 1976; and her parents, Gabriel and Maria (Buccafusco) Cali.

Surviving are three daughters and son-in-laws, Rose Marie and Richard Kutler of Old Bridge; JoAnn and Frank Zsilavetz of Waretown; and Francine and Martin Siederer of East Brunswick; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Frank and Pam Galiastro of NC; and Joseph and Mary Galiastro of Union Beach; one sister, Anna Mann of Wayne; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ; and Monday, 9AMwith a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict’s Church, Holmdel. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.

RAYMOND J. BENNINGTON, Jr. of CLIFFWOOD BEACH – died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was 70.

Born in Montclair, he resided in Laurence Harbor for 20 years before moving to Cliffwood Beach 44 years ago. Prior to his retirement 11 years ago, he was an iron worker for 37 years and past union president for Ironworkers Local 373 in Perth Amboy. He was a member and fundraiser for the Knollcroft S&A in Cliffwood Beach, and was a member of the South Amboy Elks. He was a past member of the Laurence Harbor 1st Aid Squad, as well as the Laurence Harbor Fire Department. In addition, he was a Laurence Harbor Little League Coach, a Pop Warner Football coach, and also coached at the St. Lawrence CYO. He also played on the USS Sierra Navy Baseball team. He was a Navy Veteran, having served on the USS Sierra during Peacetime. He attended St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Stief Bennington; his children, Kim Mitchell of Lincoln, AL, Daniel of Jackson, Renee and her husband John Snyder of Inverness, FL, and David of Cliffwood Beach; three brothers, Robert of Old Bridge, Richard of Flat Top, WV, and Ronald of Howell; and two grandchildren, Jessica McClure and James Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, 8AM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, followed by a 9AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Church, Laurence Harbor. Interment with military honors will follow at the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Raymond to the Laurence Harbor Fire Department, 20 Laurence Parkway, Laurence Harbor, NJ 08879 or the Laurence Harbor First Aid & Safety Squad, 17 Laurence Parkway, Laurence Harbor, NJ 08879.

Genevieve M. Young

Genevieve M. "Jennie'" Young, 80, of Phillipsburg, NJ, died Monday. March 29, 1999 in PersonaCare at Eastwood, Wilson Boro.

She was a belt operator at Dixie Cup in Wilson Boro for 44 years. She last worked as an assistant to Dr. John Cavallo of Easton for 9 years.

Born January 22, 1919 in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Marybelle Cowell Hoadley.

Her husband, Edward C. Young died in 1960. A companion, Samuel Bevacqua died in September of 1996.

She is survived by seven brothers, Donald , Sterling, Clarence, Robert, Joseph and Raymond, all of Phillipsburg and Lawrence of Easton and a sister, Catherine Armbruster of Phillipsburg

A son, Richard E. Young, died November 2, 1996. A sister, Edith May Hoadley and a brother, Charles, both died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday in Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Calling hours will be held 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton.

Richard E. Young

Richard E. Young, 53, of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, November 2, 1996 upon arrival at Warren Hospital.

He was a supervisor at the Hunterdon State Developmental School in Clinton for over twenty years. He also owned and operated the R.E. Young & Co. Party Supply in Phillipsburg for the past six years.

Born February 7, 1943 in Easton, he is the son of the former Genevieve Hoadley Young of Phillipsburg and the late Edward Young.

He was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.

He was a member of the Communications Workers of America, Local 1040 and was a former member of the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad.

Funeral services will be held 10:15 a.m. Wednesday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. in St. Philip and St. James Church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Interment will be in the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

The family requests memorial contributions to the church, 430 South Main St., Phillipsburg, 08865.

Betty Yount

Betty Yount, 73, of Phillipsburg, died Monday, August 9, 1999 in Warren Hospital.

Born September 17, 1925 in Tannersville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Sadie Chance.

Her husband, Clarence Sr., died May 18, 1988.

She is survived by three sons, Gary M. Yount with whom she lived, David and Richard King, both of Michigan, a daughter, Linda Kastl of Michigan; a step-son, Clarence Yount Jr., of Michigan; two step-daughters Kathleen Dean of Michigan and Pamela Lay of Tennessee; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sharon Stefano and three sisters, Lois, Belor and Jean all died earlier.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Hackler Cemetery in Mount Ash, Kentucky.

The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements.
