RICHARD LAING, 93, of Santa Fe, died Friday at St. Vincent Hospital of a heart attack. He was born May 22, 1910, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Robert Laing, a physician, and Ruby Laing and he grew up in Duarte, Cailf.
He was a horse soldier in the 1930s at Fort Riley, Kan. In the early 1940s, he trained the only Women's Army Corps cavalry unit, which was created at the behest of Eleanor Roosevelt. He was a founding member of the organization now known as the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and used to ride in rodeos all around the state, said friend and neighbor Barbara Nau. In World War II, he served in units 101 and 102 with the Office of Strategic Services and spent time in the Chain-Burma India theater, as well as Europe and Africa. He received multiple commendations for his services. During the Eisenhower administration, he served as head of the Selective Service System in New Mexico and was chief aide to Gov. Ed Mechem. For a while, he owned and operated in ranch in Mountainair. After selling it, he moved to Santa Fe and for years worked in oil, "wildcatting" in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. He was a former Republican Party chairman for Torrance County and belonged to civic clubs.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Adelaide Laing Davis, wife to Chase Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz.
He is survived by a nephew, Robert C. Ellis of Naples, Fla.; and three grandnieces, Caroline St. Erne of Laguna Beach, Calif., Diana Ellis of San Diego, and Hilary Patching of Yorkshire, England.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service.

ROBERTO ANTONIO (TONY) LUJAN died Sunday after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Santa Fe on Aug. 26, 1941, to the late Mary A. and Jose G. Lujan. He was a 1961 graduate of Santa Fe High School and attended the College of Santa Fe, formally St. Michael's College. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1966, after which he was employed with the Sangre de Cristo Water Company and retired in 1988. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2811 and Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church since its inception.
He is survived by his wife, Tina; sons, Richard and girlfriend Michele Nolting, John and girlfriend Marnie Lovato, Derrick Herrera and Jordan Lujan; his treasured grandchildren; brothers, Rudy and Fermie Lujan, and John and Kristi Lujan; sisters, Viola E. Smith, Rosella F. Castellano, Christine and Pat Garcia, Priscilla and Robert Serna, Nadine and Stephen Day, and John B. and Rosa Montoya; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be donated to the Cancer Institute of New Mexico Foundation, 409 A West Zia Road, Santa Fe, N.M., 87505.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church on Richards Avenue. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday also at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church. A reception will follow after the funeral mass at Santa Maria de la Paz Parish Center.

FELICITA BLANCHE ROMERO, of Vadito, died Saturday at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Conchita Esmeralda; parents, Alfredo and Rosinalda Dominguez; and brothers, Manuel and Cosme.
She is survived by her husband, Santiago Jimmy Romero; daughters, Carmen Dominguez and husband David of Santa Fe, Conchita Fields and husband Ronald of Albuquerque; sons, Santiago Romero Jr. and wife Donna of Albuquerque, Paul Romero of Albuquerque and Patrick Romero and companion Sara of Bernalillo; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Gonzales and husband Adonais of Vadito, Rose Salazar and husband Leroy of Chamita, Jessie Tapia and husband George of Santa Fe; brothers, Alfredo Dominguez and wife Nancy of Chamisal, Rudolfo Dominguez of Chamisal, Arsenio Dominguez and wife Della of Ash Fork, Ariz., Joe Adonias Dominguez and wife Linda of Westminister, Colo.; and many other relatives and friends.
Services have been held. Burial was at the Chamisal Cemetery.

JOSE ONOFRE SANCHEZ, 93, of Alcalde, died Monday. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a graduate of McCurdy High School and served the community of Alcalde as a teacher and principal for 40 years. He also was a businessman in the horse racing industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcos Sanchez Sr. and Maria Eduvijen Sanchez; brothers and sisters, Greg, Juan E., Daniel, Laffette and Frances Sanchez and Florida Sanchez Muller.
He is survived by a brother and four sisters, Marcos E. Sanchez and wife Edna of Alcalde, Lisiaida Roybal of Santa Fe, Carlota Serna and husband Adelaido of El Rancho, Josie A. Gallegos of Fairview, and Antonette Martinez and husband Louis of Fairview; and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside services are will be at 3 p.m. today at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

ALBERTANO T. (ALBERT) C'DE BACA, 27, died Wednesday as a result of an automobile accident. He was born in Santa Fe, on April 27, 1976, to Mary Jane (Gina) and Oliver A. C'de Baca. He was a 1994 graduate of Santa Fe High School. He attended the University of New Mexico and graduated in 1999 with a degree in criminal justice and business management. He had recently returned from Tempe, Ariz., where he lived and worked. He was a competitive swimmer on the Santa Fe Dolphins, the city of Santa Fe swim team, as well as the swim team in elementary school and in high school. He played baseball and football for various city teams in his youth. He was also a member of the Santa Fe High School basketball team through his senior year and participated in league athletics at the University of New Mexico.
He is survived by his parents, Oliver and Mary Jane C'de Baca; brothers, Oliver, Matthew and wife Katrina Cabeza de Baca from Seattle, Wash.; sister, Martina C'de Baca; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Santa Maria de la Paz. A reception will follow after the burial service at the Santa Maria de la Paz Community Church Parish Center.

ISABEL C. DURAN, died Tuesday with family members by her side. She was born on Jan. 19, 1920, to the late Trinidad and Felipe Cordova.
She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Paul J. Martinez and Perfecto Duran; her daughter, Clara Rudolph; brothers, Joe, Cayetano, Eddie and Reynaldo; and brother-in-law, William Gandert.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Seidel and husband Mike of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Donny Gandert, Archie Melendez and husband Louie, and Dolores Casados and husband Frank; and two brothers, Gilbert Cordova and wife, and Manuel Cordova; and many other relatives.
Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. today at St. Gertrude Church in Mora. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

BENJAMIN LUCERO, 88, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Tuesday. He was a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, N.M., and retired from the state Department of Human Services. He was a member of the Elks Club and, after his retirement, served as secretary for two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Urbano Lucero and Josefita Lucero; and his brothers, Roger and Raymond Lucero.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Kavanaugh Lucero; his daughter, Jody Vigil and husband William of Santa Fe; his son, Alfred Lucero and wife Janet of El Paso, Texas; his brother, Johnny Lucero and wife Pauline; sisters, Clara Roybal, Annie Roybal, Feloniz Gonzales, Clorinda Trujillo and husband Salomon, all of Denver; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception in Las Vegas, N.M. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, also at Immaculate Conception in Las Vegas. Burial will follow at Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe.
