William Joseph Komonick Jr., a resident of Albuquerque for 29 years, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. He is survived by his parents, William Sr. and Ksenia Komonick of Albuquerque; his sister, Maryann Cavallaro; niece, Kristen Cavallaro; nephews, Bret and Greg Cavallaro, all of San Diego; uncle, John Rudziak and wife, Margaret of New York; and cousin, Raymond Rudziak, also of New York. The family wishes to send a special Thanks to Dr. James Liebman, Dr. Wong, and all the staff at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice. A.J. "Pete" Beauvais was born October 10, 1913 and was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. He was a former patient at Fort Stanton Hospital and proprietor of the "Rusty Anchor Bar" in Capitan, NM in the 40's. He is survived by his two sons, five children and great-grandchildren. He was a uniquely independent man of his own charm and wit. He will be missed. Services will be held at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Cremation has taken place. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Arnold Wood Brown, Lt. Col. (Ret.), USAF, 78, resident of Albuquerque since 1965, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2000. He was born on Staten Island, NY, March 29, 1922. Lt. Col. Brown was a WWII pilot who flew B-17s for Bomb Group 398 in the 8th Air Force, an instructor for the Air Force ROTC at the University of New Mexico, and Director of Organizational Analysis and Research for the Albuquerque Public School System. He earned his doctorate in Education from UNM. Lt. Col. Brown spent countless volunteer hours with the Service Corps of Retired Executives. He was many things: a painter, a business consultant, a metal worker, a jewelry maker, a husband, and a father. Lt. Col. Brown will be missed. According to his wishes, there will be no services. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Survivors are wife, Anne Johnson Brown; son, Arnold Havron Brown, and daughter-in-law, Pat McCraw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. box 90790, Albuquerque, NM 87199. Robert Gonzales, 14, passed away June 2,000. He was a happy, loving, caring son, always smiling, a good brother and wonderful friend who enjoyed life and his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Gonzales. He is survived by mother, Diane Gonzales; sisters, Jennifer Galindo, Susana Gonzales; brother, Jesse Gonzales; grandmother, Maria Munoz; aunts, Amy Munoz, Julie Lucero, Yolanda Foster; uncles, Jerry Foster and Al Lucero; niece, Celena Galindo; five cousins, Jessica, David, Mikie, Irene, Andrew; numerous family and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at San Jose Catholic Church with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2000, Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, with burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. George W. Hartford, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2000. He was born on February 21, 1934 to George and Sarah Sturgill Hartford in Virginia. He joined the Army at age 15 in 1949. He completed Basic Training in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and assigned to the Old Guard at Fort Myer, VA. He was eventually reassigned from the 350th Infantry in Austria to Fort Dix, NJ for discharge for being underage. In 1951 he became of age and reenlisted. Shortly after, in 1952, he found himself in Korea assigned to the 7th Infantry Division. He completed his tour of combat in 1953. His assignment included Fort Gordon, Georgia, from 1953 to 1954 and was then transferred to Germany until 1958, where he completed Airborn and Jump Master School in Augsburg. He left Germany and was assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he received his commission from Officer Candidate School in 1961 and completed Ranger School. He then left for Germany again until 1966 and then returned to Fort Benning until 1973 with two tours in Vietnam, during which, he was awarded the Silver Star, five Bronze Stars with Combat V and the Purple Heart. He first went to Vietnam in 1968 and during this tour his Senior Advisor was seriously wounded and he received a medal for bravery in the course of saving his life. In June of 1968 he too was wounded in a firefight. He returned to Fort Benning and began another tour in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. He remained at Fort Benning until his transfer to Germany in 1973 and once again returned to the U.S. in 1976, where he was assigned to the ROTC Department at NMSU in Las Cruces and eventually retired from the Army in 1978. George was an officer with the Las Cruces Police Dept. from 1978 to 1988 and then left to work for the Hatch Police Dept., where he retired as Chief of Police in 1996. He has been the first resident of Rio Rancho to hold the title of State Commander Disabled American Veterans of New Mexico and was a member of the Sandoval Masonic Lodge No. 76 AF & AM, Shrine Ballut Abyad Temple, Scottish Rites, and Turquoise Chapter 71 Order of the Eastern Star. George is survived by his loving wife, Waltraud of Rio Rancho; sons, David and wife, B.J. of Rio Rancho, Michael Hartford and Yvette Dimartino of T or C, and Robert of Albuquerque; two sisters, Betty and Shirley; and one brother, Arvil; his beloved grandchildren, Micah, Daniel, Mekyle, and Zakary. George was a very loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. Graveside services for George will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2000, 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery with the DAV presenting honors. Tomasita "Tommie" B. Johnson, 82, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, a longtime resident of Jemez Springs and a resident of Albuquerque for four years, died Friday, June 2, 2000. She is survived by her sons, Raymond T. Johnson and wife, Lorraine of Flagstaff, AZ, Melvin L. Johnson Sr. and wife, Virginia of Pleasonton, CA; daughter, Irene Patterson and husband, Johnny of Robertsdale, AL; step-sons, Clarence D. Johnson Jr. and wife, Ann of Calexico, CA, Perry E. Johnson and wife, Toni of Los Altos, CA, Larry Johnson and wife, Lena of El Sobrante, CA; step-daughter, June Cardwell of Chapparell, NM; brothers, Benny Barela and wife, Tillie of Flagstaff, AZ, Willie Barela of Durango, CO; sister, Lucinda Salazar of Camp Verde, AZ; 18 grandchildren and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Douglas Johnson Sr.; brothers, George and Tom Barela; and sisters, Mary Puttman and Marion Ortiz. She managed the Mineral Bathhouse in Jemez Springs for many years. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Jemez Springs. Charles A. McGee, 58, a resident of Peralta, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2000. He was a member of the Westside Family Chapel in Valencia, NM. He is survived by his loving wife, Madeline, of 38 years, of the family home in Peralta. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at the Westside Family Chapel. A procession by the Christian Motorcycle Association will follow. The family requests that donations be made to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch and Cross Bar X Youth Ranch in Bayfield, CO. Lloyd Pool, 80, an Albuquerque resident of 13 years, died Saturday, June 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Pool of the family home; daughter, Kathryn P. Yarbrough and husband, Mark of Albuquerque; grandson, Jake Yarbrough and wife, Lynita of Ft. Worth, TX; granddaughter, Emily Yarbrough and fiance, Thomas Smith of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Alline Pool of San Antonio, TX; and a great-grandchild expected in July. His parents, Archie and Jeffie Pool and a brother, Archie Hoyt Pool, preceded Mr. Pool in death. Mr. Pool was born on June 10, 1919 in Lorenzo, TX. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Pool was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army. Lloyd will be remembered for his honesty, humor, and loving nature. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 5, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with Dr. Paul R. Debenport and Rev. Dott Richards, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1932, died Saturday, June 3, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clarence "Slim" Richards of the family home and numerous nephews and nieces. Services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Winfred Walker and Brother Ed Storm officiating. Louise Charles Rutz, 93, died Monday, May 29, 2000 at her home in Placitas. Louise was born August 28, 1906 in Belleville, Kansas, daughter of Tom and Bula Dancy Charles. In 1907, Louise came with her family to Alamogordo. She received her early education at the Logwood School in Penasco Canyon, near Cloudcroft, later attending Alamogordo Schools, where she completed high school in 1924. She graduated in 1928 from New Mexico A & M College, now NMSU. On June 1, 1928, Louise married Ben Rutz, a college classmate, a marriage which lasted over 66 years, until Ben's death in 1995. Through the years, the Rutz family lived at Mesilla Park, Alamogordo and Albuquerque, moving to Placitas in 1974. Louise wrote feature stories and articles for newspapers and magazines, and compiled family history material about the Rutz and Charles families. She shared her writing and artistic talents with her family, and the organizations with which she was involved. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Zeta Tau Alpha college sorority, NM Engineers' Wives Club, among others. In Alamogordo, she served as president of The Alamogordo Women's Club in 1951-52. After locating in Placitas, she became an active member of Las Placitenas Extension Club and Jardineros de Placitas garden club. Louise leaves to mourn her death a large and devoted family, including two daughters, Margaret Rutz of Placitas and Lois Harrington and her husband, Frank of Bryan, TX; one son, Charles Rutz and wife, Nancy of Yorba Linda, CA; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Nicki and Ray George, Craig and Lisa Harrington, Roy and Teri Harrington, Tom and Jennifer Harrington of Texas, Ken and Jana Rutz, Andrea and Travis Findly, Scott and Amy Rutz, Marissa and Don Haysbert of California; and nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lala Charles of Alamogordo and Dorothy Charles of Abilene, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; brothers, Perl Charles, Ralph Charles, Ward Charles and Ray Charles; and sister, Lucile McClernon. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2000 at 10:30 a.m., Terrace Grove Cemetery, Belen, with the Rev. Jim Anderson of Albuquerque officiating. Eastern Star services will be conducted by Jessamine Chapter No. 45, Order of the Eastern Star, Belen. Joe E. Seward, 97, a resident of Albuquerque since 1935, died Friday, June 2, 2000. He is survived by his sons, Joe E. Seward Jr. and wife, Norma of Ocean Springs, MS and Paul D. Seward and wife, Barbara; daughter, Carol L. Franklin and husband, George, all of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Pamela Wilson of Albuquerque, Judy L. Bott of Peralta, Cindy J. Green of Van Cleve, MS, Dixie L. Seward of Ocean Springs, MS, Lynn Williams and Ashley McDonald, both of Albuquerque; grandsons, Paul Seward Jr. of Boulder, CO and Joe E. Seward III of Ocean Springs, MS; and nine great-grandchildren, Robert Wilson of Albuquerque, Rita, Sally and Patty Seward, all of Boulder, CO, Ida and Kevin Bott, both of Peralta, Robert, Gage and Karlee Williams, all of Albuquerque. He was a member of Temple Lodge #6 in Albuquerque. He established a homestead in 1932 South East of Moriarty. Mr. Seward was a Real Estate broker for many years in Albuquerque and enjoyed fly fishing. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Robert Eugene Long passed away peacefully on May 28th at home after a long battle with cancer. He was 63. He was a resident of his beloved New Mexico since 1955. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Susan Lee Long, and his dear children Sherry Robin Vicki, Theresa Suzette Brewer, Anthony Eugene Long, and Angela Marie Long, plus son-in-law Guido Vicki and daughter-in-law Helen Ann Long. Robert has four grandchildren, Eve Marie Martinez, Meredith Leigh Vicki, Amanda Rose Johnson and Adam Mitchell Johnson, and three great-grandchildren, Christina Martinez, Anthony Steven Vicki, and Robert Quasti Hawkeye Montoya. He is also survived by his loving Mother, Cecelia Eileen Long and his two caring sisters, Carol Ann Angus and Pamela Sue Baker and his sister-in-law Lois Long. Robert also has a multitude of very special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, plus dear and compassionate friends in New Mexico as well as all over the world. A lithographer and teacher by trade, he worked at SIPI for many years and also owned and operated Two Moons Graphics in Albuquerque until his retirement in November of 1996. He was one of the founders and first President of the Placitas New Mexico Fire Brigade as well as a Past-President of the Las Huertas La Jara ditch commission. He also was instrumental in setting up the first official printing facility for the C.D.S. of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the 1980's. Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 138A Frontage Road, Rio Rancho. For directions call 896-2990. Dorothy Jean Link Meyerson, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on June 4, 1999. Dorothy retired in 1980 to Barefoot Bay, Florida, originally of Oceanside, New York. Dorothy had been a nurse who practiced at A. Holly Paterson Nursing Home for 30 years in New York. Dorothy is survived by her son, George Meyerson and his wife, Peggy of Rio Rancho; two grandchildren, George and Claire Meyerson of Rio Rancho; one brother, John Link of Farmingdale, NY; one sister, Irene Brown of Barefoot Bay, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, on Sunday, June 6, 1999, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Rosary being recited at 3:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 7, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Isamu Miyoshi, 88, beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a resident of Albuquerque for 3 months, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Michie; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Geri; daughter-in-law, Sandi; granddaughters, Dina, Christie, Laurie, Lani and Wendie; great-grandson, Caleb; brother, Kenneth; and numerous nephews and nieces. Sam, who endeared himself to all he met with his sharp intellect and kind manner, dedicated 40 years of his life to educating Hawaii's youth. He spent the last 19 years of his career as principal of Kauai High School, whose library bears his name. He was, in every respect, a true leader in the Kauai community, as an active member of the Lion's Club, and member of the Board of Directors of several service organizations. Sam and Michie moved to Albuquerque to be near their son, Dennis, who works at Sandia Labs, and his family, in March of this year. Private disposition has taken place. James "Pat" Patten, 90, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Helen Patten; son, John Patten; granddaughters, Valerie Cook and husband, Gordon, Monica Patten and Melanie Patten; and great-granddaughter, Helen Chavez, all of Albuquerque. Mr. Patten worked for Albuquerque Indian School for over 35 years. He was a certified Doctor of Motors. Mr. Patten was a decendent of Cochise. He was a former member of Gideons International. Mr. Patten was an avid fisherman and he invented the "jet" lure. Services will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School NE, with Pastor Melinda Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Sunday, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

George Ruggiero, 89, a 22 year resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, May 31, 1999. He is survived by Mollie Ruggiero, his loving wife of 64 years. Also surviving are his three children, Leonard and wife, Camille of Albuquerque, George Jr. and wife, Josephine of Florida, and Anita Oehler of New York; seven grandchildren, Leonard, Laurie, Greg, Vincent, George, Robert, and Lisa; and seven great-grandchildren. A faithful Roman Catholic, Mr. Ruggiero was active at St. Malachys Church in Brooklyn, NY. He was a musician who played guitar, organ and loved to sing and could always be depended upon to provide entertainment at various occasions. to his family he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who would do anything for his family and friends. His family cordially invites friends to join with them as they celebrate his life at a memorial mass on Monday, June 7, 10:00 a.m., at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming NE. Father Paul Baca will be the Celebrant. Sunrise Society is serving the family of Mr. Ruggiero, (891-8200).

Alberto Matias Salazar, 72, a resident of Belen since 1979, peacefully passed away on June 4, 1999. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all his family. Alberto worked for many years for Star Paving Co. Alberto was preceded in death by his two grandsons, Chris and Albert Sena. He is survived by his loving wife, Sofia of the family home in Belen; his two daughters, Linda Salazar and Margie Sena; his two sons, Cipriano and Ray Salazar; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Jacob Salazar and his wife, Rebecca, Joe Salazar and his wife, Sylvia; two sisters, Irene Apodaca and her husband, Juan, and Lucia Brito. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, 5:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, (101 N. 10th). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Pajarito Cemetery, (corner of Coors and Pajarito Rd. SW, in Albuquerque). Pallbearers will be Joe Chavez, Pete Vigil, Matias Garcia, Antonio Ledezma, Juan Apodaca, and Felix Yawakie. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.

Kevin Scott Shirley, 17, died suddenly of gunshot wounds from an unknown assailant on Saturday, May 30, 1999. He was a valued member of the junior varsity soccer team and Manzano High School and, according to his coach, would have been a starter his senior year on the varsity soccer team. He was a dedicated member of St. John's United Methodist Church where he was active in the Next Step program, a Bible study group. Kevin was a loyal friend to many. His memory will be cherished by his parents, Wayne and Joan; sisters, Kirsten and Karen; grandparents, Donald and Sarah Shirley and John and Verla Paulsen; aunts and uncles, Barrett and Donna Earnest, Dane and Joy Morsaint, Eugene and Nikki Paulsen; great aunts, great uncles; cousins; and many, many friends. Services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona, NE with Rev. Jim Hawk, Rev. E. Leonard Gillingham and Rev. Robert Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
