Ruth K. Riechmann died Thursday, May 21, 1998. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 6, 1918. She is survived by her brother, William Koenig and his wife, Charlotte; nephew, William Koenig Jr. and his wife, Kathy; niece, Karen Koenig; and great-nephews, William Koenig and Donald Koenig, all of the Baltimore area. Ruth was a librarian in Baltimore, South Bend, Hawaii, and Philadelphia. She and her husband, Donald Riechmann, moved to Albuquerque in the 1960's when he was named Head Librarian of the Albuquerque Public Libraries. She was a longtime member of St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, and the Assistance League of Albuquerque. She was President of the Montebello Resident Council. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 1998, at St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Pl. NE. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church to create an endowment in memory of Donald A. Riechmann and Ruth K. Riechmann, or a charity of your choice. Sunrise Services is in charge of the cremation arrangements.

Alpheus Thornton Steele, 82, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away quietly on May 24, 1998 in Tucson, AZ. Children, Margaret Steele Swartout of Knoxville, TN and John Thornton (Laura) Steele of Tucson, AZ; grandsons, Aaron Thomas Steele and Lucas Charles Steele of Tucson, AZ; and brother, Hubert G. Steele of Chapel Hill, NC survive him. Alpheus worked at Sandia Labs from 1958 until his retirement. Donations in his name may be made to American Heart Association, 5325 E. Pima, Tucson, AZ 85712.

Andrew William Uppenkamp, 28, passed away on May 19, 1998. Cremation arrangements were by Sunrise Society.

James M. Welch, 83, passed away on Monday, May 25, 1998 at Gallup, NM. He was a resident of the area for 77 years and retired as President-Director of Gallup Federal Savings and Loan Association. Born in Farmington, NM on August 5, 1914, he moved to Mentmore, NM in July 191. He was a graduate of Gallup High School "Class of 1931 ". He went to work as a bookkeeping clerk for the Defense Coal Company located at Mentmore, until the mine closed in March 1952. He was also the Assistant Postmaster there. Next he worked for Harshman Motor Company, then Seward Motor Company, and finally Gallup Federal Savings and Loan, retiring in 1981. He is survived by son, Ronald L. Welch and wife, Shelley; grandchildren, Jennifer E. Welch and James R. Welch; brother, Robert J. Welch, all of Gallup. He was preceded in death by wife, Jennie K. Welch; parents, James C. and Myrtle Welch; sisters, Mildred Myers and Georgia Branton. He was a lifetime member of the Gallup Elks Lodge 1440. His hobbies were playing golf, hunting, and fishing. Honorary pallbearers are Lyle Carney, Bill Cousins, Ray Garcia, Cleto Gonzales, Royal Staley, Dennis Satermo, and Fred Tamony. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28, at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel with Pastor Jeff Symonds officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends and relatives will be received at 1701 Kiva Drive. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations can be made to KNME-TV, 1130 University Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87131-4021. James was a supporter of educational television. Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Reginald James "R.J." Young, M.D., died at home in Montecito, Saturday, May 23, 1998. Born in Tunstall, England, January 4, 1910, he came with his parents, James Young and Mary Plant to Canada and later to the Dakotas and Minnesota. He graduated from Huron College, Huron, South Dakota, and the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. After his internship at Garfield Park Hospital in Chicago, he married E. Nannette Ambler, daughter of Frank Alonzo Ambler and Winifred Savage of Hammond, Indiana, and moved to Binghamton, New York, where he completed a residency in psychiatry at Binghamton State Hospital. After advanced studies in child psychiatry at Columbia University, he administered several state child guidance clinics in Central New York. Retiring in 1965, he moved to California and served the state on the staffs of Napa State Hospital, Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, and Pacific State Hospital in Pomona. He shared his residence between Montecito and Albuquerque since leaving Buena Park in 1989. He was a past commodore of the Ithaca, New York, Power Squadron, a member of the Ithaca Yacht Club, and was a founding member and first president of the Cayuga Trail Club in New York. After retirement he and his wife traveled widely, visiting over 157 countries over the years. His wife predeceased him in 1989 in Santa Barbara. Children include James A. Young of Albuquerque, Kenneth M. Young of Spavinaw, OK, and Linda H. Young Hunt of Montecito; an infant daughter, Carol J. died in 1994. He leaves nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Michael J. Young of Albuquerque, Jamie S. Young of Albuquerque, Graham R. Hunt of San Francisco, Jason E. Hunt of Santa Barbara and San Francisco, Tyler Y. Hunt of Santa Barbara, and Cameron J. Hunt of Santa Barbara. Arrangements are by Welch Ryce Haider of Santa Barbara. Visiting hours are Thursday evening, May 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Welch Ryce Haider Mortuary, 15 E. Sola St., Santa Barbara. Services will be held Friday, May 29, 1998, 1:00 p.m., at the Santa Barbara Cemetery Chapel. Burial will be in Santa Barbara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to these loving and compassionate community resources: The Friendship Center, 83 Eucalyptus Lane, Santa Barbara, CA 93108, or Bear Canyon Senior Center, 4645 Pitt NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.

Mary S. Adams, 65, a resident of Albuquerque for 49 years, died Friday, January 21, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Edward Adams of Albuquerque; sons, Cliff Roudabush and wife, Cheryl of Albuquerque, Larry Roudabush and wife, Wanda of Washington State, and James Roudabush and wife, Patti of Washington State; sisters, Helen Morris of Edmond, OK, Judy McCormick of Westminster, CA and Vickie Swanson of Anaheim, CA; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her father and mother, Arthur and Eloise Fields; her two sisters, Danna Burton and Clarice Bruner; and her brother, Buford Fields. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Women of the Moose, Chapter 1266. Services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2000, 2:00 p.m. at Moose Lodge, 2121 Edith NE. Mr. Charles Esquipula Chavez of Albuquerque, NM passed away in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, January 15, 2000. He is survived by his mother, Rosemary Chavez; and sister, Sabrina Chavez of Albuq, NM; nephews, Randy Bencomo, Victor Bencomo and Isaiah Armenta. Rosary services will be held Monday, at 7:30 p.m. at the Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 3rd St. SW. Visitation with the family will be at 7:00 p.m.

Jim Crellin, age 69, passed away on Saturday morning, January 22, 2000, following an extended illness. Jim Crellin was born May 16, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa and had been a resident of Tucumcari, NM since 1957. He attended the University of Nebraska and received his Pharmacy Degree from the University of Colorado in 1956. He came to Tucumcari and purchased the D & S Drug on Main Street in downtown Tucumcari. He later purchased the 66 Drug on Tucumcari Blvd. and in 1968 established the Zia Drug, which he and his wife, Norma Jean Crellin operated until its closure. Jim was a member of the Center Street United Methodist Church, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1172 of Tucumcari. He was a member of the Tucumcari Quay County Chamber of Commerce and had served on the board of directors of that organization. He was a former member of the Tucumcari Kiwanis Club of Tucumcari. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was active in many civic duties of the Tucumcari and Quay County area. Surviving Jim Crellin is his wife, Norma Jean Crellin of Tucumcari; one daughter, Kristy Frame and husband, Don of Little Rock, AK; sister, Joan Maurer of Silver Creek, NE; and brother, John S. Crellin of Taos, NM. Also surviving are three nieces; and two nephews. Funeral Services have been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Dunn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Scott Seymour of the Center Street United Methodist Church and Rev. Gay Wellborn of the St. Michael's Episcopal Church of Tucumcari, NM. Burial will be in the family plot of the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. The body of Jim Crellin will lie in state from Monday morning until time for Funeral Services on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Dunn Memorial Chapel. The family suggests for those who wish, donations may be made to local charities.

Donna E. Erickson, age 54, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, January 20, 2000. She is survived by husband, Byron Erickson; mother, Grace K. Bruce; children, Rebecca Nielson of Rembrandt, IA and Tracy Lee Tefft of Albuquerque; sisters, Joyce McCollum of Albuquerque and Jill Owen of Tomball, TX; four grandchildren, Christopher, Tommy, Hannah, Shayla; and nephew, Billy; and many dear and close friends. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, in the chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE.

John F. Etoll, age 89, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, January 19, 2000. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 24, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE, in charge of arrangements.

Funeral Services for Mr. Victor Manuel Garcia will be held today at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave. NW, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale SE. Pallbearers will be Martin Garcia, Eric Kozlowski, Dominic Garcia, Greg Garcia, Brian Garcia, Victor M. Garcia, Joshua Garcia, John Ortiz and Gabe Ortiz. Joseph L. Gibbs, 47, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away January 21, 2000. He is survived by his mother, Della Gibbs; father, Joseph L. Gibbs Sr.; grandparents, Rev. J.M. Gibbs of Albuquerque and Ruth Mathis of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Mavis Gaskins of Rio Rancho, Lula Gibbs, Donna Lemons, Zina Gibbs, all of Albuquerque, Joelene Jones of Alamogordo, and Faedra Johnson of Rio Rancho; and brothers, Robert Gibbs and Phillip Gibbs of Texas, and Felix Gibbs of Albuquerque. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 1, 2000, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 2, 2000, 1:00 p.m., at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1509 Edith Blvd. SE, with Rev. N.D. Smith officiating.

Dolores Sanchez Hernandez, age 60, of Farragut, Tennessee, formerly of Hobbs, NM, passed away Sunday morning, January 23, 2000 at the St. Marys Hospice Center in Knoxville. Dolores was born January 29, 1939 in Carlsbad, NM to Bonficio and Marcelena Navarette Sanchez. After raising her family she earned a degree in elementary education from Eastern New Mexico University and taught school in the Hobbs, NM Municipal Schools until her retirement in June of 1998. She was a member of the Jefferson Church of Christ in Hobbs, NM. After her retirement, Dolores moved to Farragut and attended the Farragut Church of Christ. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Juan and Daniel Sanchez. Survivors are her children and spouses, Marty and Janet Hernandez of Kauna, Wisconsin, Elia and Tom Key of Farragut, TN, Elisha and Harry Stewart of Mendon, Mass., Christina and Ken Keller, Cindy and Dan Heim, all of Lewisville, TX; 16 grandchildren; sisters, Lydia Ortega and Albesa Sanchez, both of Artesia, NM; brothers, Santos Sanchez of Artesia, NM, Antonio Sanchez of Hageman, NM, Manuel, Frank, Raymond, Jose and Bonificio (Bonnie) Sanchez, all of Roswell, NM, Samuel Sanchez of Carlsbad, NM; several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at 8:00 p.m., Monday in the Click Funeral Home-Farragut Chapel, with Mr. Grant Standefer officiating. Nancy Y. Williams Kelley died Friday, January 21, 2000 at home after a struggle with cancer. She is survived by five daughters, Debbie Reinhart, Gina Studor, Lori Berger, Kathy Abrams and Samantha Champion; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and John Bentz, whom she considered a son. A Memorial Service will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd SE at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2000. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or the charity of you choice.

Virginia Kerns, 85, died January 11, 2000, after a long battle with lung disease. An Albuquerque resident since 1950, Virginia is survived by her daughter, Pam and husband, Rick Salmon of Tijeras; grandchildren, Ryan and Alexandra of Tijeras, Becky Barndt of Phoenix, and Amy Kabia of Greenwich, CT; and one great-grandchild, Erica Barndt of Phoenix. A celebration of the lives of Virginia and her husband, Ken, who died in 1998, will be held Saturday, January 29, 11:00 a.m., at 8800 Chambers Pl. NE. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute.

Cynthia "Cindy" Dawn Miller, 43, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died Saturday, January 22, 2000. She is survived by her parents, Don and Wilma Miller; brother, W. Doyle Miller and wife, Elizabeth; niece, Kailynn Janelle Miller; nephew, William Jerrod Miller, all of Albuquerque; and numerous family members and friends. She attended school at Sombre Del Monte Elementary, Madison Middle School and graduated from Sandia High School. She was a tremendous influence as an Aunt to Kailynn and Jerrod. She touched the heart of everyone and always left them with a smile. Cindy will be greatly missed. Services will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming NE with Tim Yocom, officiating. Interment will follow in Tucumcari, NM. Lorraine P. Paiz, died Sunday, January 16, 2000, in Albuquerque, at the age of 44. Lorraine is survived by her mother, Annabell Sandoval; five sons, Johnny Spedalerie, Freddy Paiz, Benny Paiz, Carlos Paiz and Larry Paiz; one daughter, Bernadette Le Doux; two half-sisters, Becky Le Doux and Carolyn Garcia; and two grandchildren, Brandon Cruz Nieto Le Doux and Alexis Nicole Nieto Le Doux. A Rosary for Lorraine will be recited on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.

Mary Lou Salas, 70, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Friday, January 21, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Maclovio Salas of Albuquerque; daughters, Sandra S. Baca and husband, Joel and Loretta S. Garcia and husband, Kevin; grandson, Ryan Garcia; granddaughter, Kelsey Garcia; mother, Maria Tafoya, all of Albuquerque; brothers, Ismael Tafoya of Contreras, NM, Delfin Tafoya and former spouse, Barb, Jimmy Tafoya and wife, Betty Jean, Robert Tafoya and wife, Mary Lou, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Peggy Tafoya of Albuquerque, Tommie Montoya and husband, Cip of Bernalillo, Flora Lucero and husband, Ruben, Rosey Tafoya and Patsy Tafoya; brother-in-law, Abrosio Salas and sisters-in-law, Mary Markee, and Evelia Griego and husband, David, all of Albuquerque. Mrs. Salas was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be greatly missed by all those who loved her. Ruth Seidel, 88, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2000. Ruth was a resident of Albuquerque since 1946 after coming here from El Paso, Texas. Ruth enjoyed her weekly dinner date, a good party and playing bridge with her friends. She will be missed by everybody who knew and loved this wonderful person. She is survived by her son, Rick Seidel; grandchildren, Caroline Seidel, Christopher Seidel and his wife, Susan, Michelle and husband, Bobby Lopez; great-grandchildren, Coralie, Alicia, Christina, Samantha, Jonathan and Stephanie; and nephew, Lawrence Robinson and wife, Polly of Houston, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herb Seidel; and daughter-in-law, Gail Seidel. Cremation has taken place and services will be held at St. Marks on the Mesa, 431 Richmond Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2000. Pat Shelton, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Friday, January 21, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Shelton of the family home; son, Ira J. Shelton and wife, Diane; daughter, Patsy D. Lindley and husband, Robert, all of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Lena Rae Jones of Johnson City, Texas. Mr. Shelton moved here from Conroe, TX in 1950. He retired in 1979 from the retail grocery business in Albuquerque. He was an active member at Highland Baptist Church. Mr. Shelton was also an ordained deacon and served at Riverside and Trinity Baptist Church. Services will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Rev. Winifred Walker officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Todd Lindley, Jason Lindley, Robert Lindley, Doug Shelton, Ira Shelton, and Jeff Hunter. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Daniel, Edward Daniel, Lowrey Daniel and Gerald Daniel. Friends may visit one hour prior to service at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel. Joanna W. Yandell, 97, a resident of Albuquerque since 1944, died Friday, January 21, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Desmond Yandell of Albuquerque; sister, Mary Botterwick of Newton, KS; brother, Al Kater and wife, Lorraine of Newton, KS; five nieces and one nephew. Mrs. Yandell was born in Germany on November 10, 1902. Her parents migrated to the United States in 1909 and she later moved to California. She gained her citizenship at Long Beach, CA in 1940. During World War II, Mrs. Yandell went to stay with her mother while her brothers were away in the military service. She moved to Albuquerque in 1944 where she met Desmond, and they were married in 1946. Mrs. Yandell worked for the Broome Furniture Company for over 20 years before retiring. She was a member of Heights Christian Church for 35 years. Services will be on Monday, January 24, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Heights Christian Church on Louisiana and Comanche NE. Pallbearers will be Charles France, Jr., Mike Hatchell, Don DuBerry, Kelly Peil, and Peter A. Arndt. Memorial contributions may be made to Heights Christian Church, 6935 Comanche Rd. NE, 87110.
