Shirley Ann Horchheimer, age 45, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 1999. Shirley was born on September 28, 1953, in Albuquerque. She graduated from Valley High School in 1971 and received her Bachelor of Science degree and her Master of Arts degree in Psychology and Personnel Services in 1976 from ENMU. Shirley spent the majority of her career working as an adjudicator and as an Adjudicator Specialist for the New Mexico Disability Determination Services. She was a previous member of the First Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church. Shirley had a gentle spirit with an incredible sense of humor and a deep love for animals, her friends and her family. She was an excellent cook and was the first person to provide food, transportation and help whenever one of her friends or family members was hurt or in trouble. Shirley was also an avid sports fan and supported the Dallas Cowboys and the Lobos. She also spent a great deal of time helping abused and/or abandoned animals. Because of her, many dogs and cats are in safe and loving homes. Shirley's death has created an incredible void in our lives of the family and friends who loved her so deeply. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Lawrence J. Horchheimer, in September, 1987. Shirley is survived by her mother, Dorothy A. Horchheimer; a brother, Steve W. Horchheimer and his fiancee, Angela Webb; sister, Beverly H. Wyche; her cherished doggies and kitty, Bailey, Maggie, Huero, Jody and Jett; and her many special friends. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Donations may be made in her name to Animal Protection of New Mexico, P.O. Box 11395, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87192, or to the Northview Animal Hospital, 7601 Anaheim NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87122, so that more cats and dogs can be rescued in her memory.

Justo Henry "Jr." Hunick, 43, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Rosann Hunick; daughter, Melanie Hunick and boyfriend, Robert Thompson; son, Eric Justo Hunick and girlfriend, Andrea Dennison; mother, Beulah Chavez and husband, Joe; sister, Rosie Tafoya; brothers-in-law, Michael Montoya and David Velasquez and wife, Melannie; niece, Irene Maestas and her daughter, Samantha; niece and Goddaughter, Yolanda Maestas; nephew, Raymond Maestas and fiancee, Olivia, all of Albuquerque; several other relatives; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Lynn Hunick; and father, Justo Saiz Hunick. Mr. Hunick was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was also a member of Pipefitters Local #412. Mr. Hunick volunteered with North Valley Little League, serving as Vice President and coach. He was employed for 21 years for PNM, (Gas Company of New Mexico). Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 9502 4th St. NW. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Montoya, David Velasquez, Leonard Hunick, Marty Saiz, Danny Salazar, and Raymond Maestas. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Thompson, Leonard "Lenny Boy" Hunick and Albino Casaus. John Johansen, born May 5, 1904 in Tysnes, Norway. He is survived by a brother, Wilhelm Hoviskeland of Norway; step-children, Robert Wilden and wife, Carol, Thomas Wilden and wife, Novelle, and Suzanne Wilden; niece, Donna Jewell and children, Daniel, David, Danna, Dawn and Daren; Kay Tangen and children Ole and Tina; many nieces and nephews in Norway. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Hagen Johansen and second wife, Marie Wilden Johansen; also brothers, Endre, Adolf, and Sverre Hoviskeland and Andov Johansen; sisters, Anna Burnee and Ingabord Haaland. John spent his whole life on the sea. He came to America in 1924, attended classes to learn English, passed his Captain's license in 1936, and commanded a standard oil tanker on the Great Lakes until he retired in 1964, at which time he moved to Albuquerque from Chicago. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church located at 215 Locust St. NE, Albuquerque 87102, or to the American Heart Association.

Wilma D. Kershner, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 31, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kershner and husband, Alan Gross; son, Robert Randal Kershner; grandson, John Alan Gross; and granddaughter, Katherine Jane Gross. Wilma was proud to be from Albuquerque and loved the mountains. She was a charter member of Seroptimist, an avid gardener, and in the nursery business for over 35 years. Her goal was to try every restaurant in Albuquerque. Memorial services are pending. Contributions may be made in Wilma's memory to the New Mexico Boys & Girls Ranch, 6209 Hendrix NE 87110. I.D. "Barney" Lowrey. We would like to thank everyone who gave their love and sympathy to our family with the loss of Barney. Husband, father, father-in-law and grandad, he was the greatest. Ouida, Keith, Holly, Piper, James, Jim, Gwen, and Zach.

O.L. McMains Jr., a longtime resident of Grants, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 1999 following a short illness. The son of Orion and Pearl McMains, he was born November 14, 1920 in Dexter, New Mexico. The family moved to the Bluewater Valley in 1935, where they farmed, with McMains graduating from Grants Union High School in 1938. In 1940, the family moved to Albuquerque where they operated a dairy. In 1949, the family returned to Grants when he and his dad purchased the Ford dealership which they operated until 1958. From 1958 to 1875, McMains owned and operated the Sanitary Service Co. Long active in Community Affairs, he was a longtime President of the Grants Rodeo Association, and was past President of the Grants Lions Club, and the Zuni Mountain Country Club. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Betty; a son, Terry and wife, Karen of Hatch, NM; a daughter, Linda Awtrey and husband, Ron of Grants; four grandchildren, Dr. Robyn Gaffney of Albuquerque, Dina Hall of Grants, Richard Jones of Ramah, NM, Terry J. McMains of Albuquerque; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Dr. F.C. McMains and his wife, Ann of Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be Sunday, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in Grants Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 2, 1999, 2:00 p.m., at the Central Baptist Church of Grants with Pastor Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Pallbearers are C.K. Gunderson, G.D. Ramsey, Ralph McQueary, Charlie Harding, Andy Hendrix, and J.D. Womack. Honorary pallbearers include Phillip Schneimann, Ed Maurer, Bruce Hale, Perry Fisher, Les Stuart, Kit South and Jim Stephens. Grants Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Connie Montano passed away peacefully on July 31, 1999 at home with her family after a long battle with cancer at the age of 46. Her memory will be cherished by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Eloy Montano; and her son, Eloy Montano Jr.; her father, Santiago Chavez and mother, Faviola Chavez; her father and mother-in-law, Juan and Nicki Montano; her sister, Cathy Gonzales and husband, Ralph; her brother, James Chavez and wife, Lori; her sister, Marlene Zamora and husband, George; many nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved her very much. The Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary on the corner of 8th and Iron. Mrs. Montano will lie in state today, from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning, time and place to be announced. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Albert Montano, James Chavez Jr., Gabriel Padilla, Gilbert Montano, George Zamora, Ralph Gonzales. Honorary bearers will be David Montes and Richard Cordova. Dylan Russel Nazelrod, 21, entered into eternal peace, July 30, 1999. He was born on September 7, 1977 in Albuquerque, and was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer. Dylan is survived by his parents, Dennis and Pam Nazelrod; and brother, Paul Nazelrod. He is also survived by his grandparents, Pete and Lola Baldwin and Frank and Gladys Bouthillier; uncle and aunts, Peter Baldwin and wife, Nancy, Steve Nazelrod and Susan Johnson; cousins, Keri Kline, Wendy Dobbs and husband, Kenneth, Kevin Johnson, Brian Baldwin, Ryan Nazelrod, Maverick Nazelrod; and numerous friends. Dylan will be remembered for his music, his kind and gentle heart, wonderful smile and great love for people. Visitation for Dylan is scheduled for Monday, August 2, 1999, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at Metropolitan Direct Burial and Cremation Center, 729 San Mateo Blvd. NE, with a memorial service scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 211 Jefferson NE, Albuquerque. Florence Sidney Oliver, a very special lady, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, July 31, 1999. Florence was born February 6, 1906 in Dodge, TX into a large and loving McGuire family. She is survived by two daughters, Edith Hammer and husband, Don and Betty Jo McCorkle and husband, Tommy, all of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Donna Durnell, Tommy Jo Clerkin, Sammy Kingston and Clyde Lee McCorkle; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe McGuire and wife, Gina of Albuquerque and Jack of Nashville, TN; sister-in-law, Ada McGuire of Bloomington, IN; and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Florence moved to Albuquerque from Tucumcari, NM in 1976. She attended First Family Church. Thanks to Dr. J. Snyder and also to the Lovelace Home Health Hospice. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 1:00 p.m., at Tucumcari Memorial Park in Tucumcari, where she will be buried along side her husband, Clyde Oliver. J.F. Savage, born October 18, 1918 in Des Moines, NM, died in Douglas, AZ on July 12, 1999. He was formerly of Grants and Albuquerque. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Crites of Albuquerque; son, Bill Savage of Simi Valley, CA; one sister, Mary M. Evans; three brothers, Phil, John, and Jack Savage. Cremation has taken place in Douglas, AZ. No services are to be held.

Dr. Florence M. Schroeder, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1939, died Friday, July 30, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Michael J. Toledo of Jemez Pueblo, Steve Schroeder of Albuquerque and Fredric K. Schroeder and wife, Cathlene of Vienna, VA; daughter, June T. Leonard and husband, Jay of Albuquerque; grandsons, Loren Toledo of Durango, CO, Marc A. Emerson, John Schroeder, Christopher Schroeder, all of Albuquerque, and Matthew Schroeder of Vienna, VA; and granddaughters, Jennifer Schroeder of Albuquerque and Carrie Schroeder of Vienna, VA. Dr. Schroeder was a member of the Believers Center. She was a Professor at U.N.M. for 33 1/2 years and had been a faculty member since 1932 at State College Fargo, ND. Dr. Schroeder was a member of Phi Mu Sorority for over 60 years; a member of A.A.U.W. for over 50 years; member of Albuquerque Home Economics; board member of Martinez Town Community Center. She received a Bachelors degree from Iowa State University; Masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University; PH.D. in Child Development and Home Economics at New York University, NY; attended University of Heidelberg, German and University of London. Dr. Schroeder directed W.P.A. nursery schools in New York City, NY from 1933-1938; she also organized and directed the nursery and kindergarten programs in Los Alamos from 1945-1946. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Michael Schaefer officiating. Interment will take place at Nebraska Hoskins Evangelical Cemetery. Dorothy E. Wilson, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died Sunday, August 1, 1999. She is survived by her brothers, Donald E. Wilson of Albuquerque and James L. Wilson of Turone, GA; cousins, Edith Carrol of Cokedale, CO, Ernest Malovich and Elsie Beasley, both of Littleton, CO; sister-in-law, Carrie Malovich of Green Valley, AZ; nephew, Michael Wilson of Albuquerque; and niece, Catherine Bynon of Rio Rancho. Miss Wilson was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. David Aragon, 61, passed away July 31, 2000 at his home in Mountainair, NM after a long illness. He was preceded in death by parents, Ramon Aragon and Catalina Barela. He is survived by wife, Severa Aragon of the family home; two daughters, Arlene Aragon of Estancia, NM, Cathy Aragon and husband, Bill Ramirez of Estancia; son, Martin Aragon and wife, Missy of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Santiago Aragon and wife, Petra of McIntosh, NM, Charlie Argon and wife, Crucita of Texas; three sisters, Mellie Garcia of Herford, TX, Rosa Aragon and Alfredo Chavez of Estancia, Josefine Sierra and husband, Guillermo of Herford, TX; two uncles, Rosendo Aragon of Mountainair, Alonzo Aragon of Albuquerque; adopted son, Randy Randall of Mountainair; several nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss him with all their hearts. Grace M. Bauer, 83, a resident of Belen, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2000 at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on October 17, 1916 at Dupre, South Dakota, the daughter of Hannah and William Duke. She graduated from St. John's High School in Omaha, Nebraska and Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas. She taught school for 15 years in the State of Kansas, starting from a one room schoolhouse in Hodgeman County, and ending at North Reno Elementary School, Hutchinson, Kansas. After retiring from teaching, she indulged her love of home improvement by buying and remodeling homes in Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico. Although she very much enjoyed world travel, she particularly loved New Mexico for its culture and climate. She is survived by her sons, Philip M. Bauer of Plano, TX and Michael R. Bauer of Murphy, TX; a brother, William P. Duke of Belen; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., August 5, 2000 in Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett, Kansas. She will be remembered for her generous heart, love of the written word, and ready wit. Harold (Hal) V. Burke, 93, died 7/26/2000, at his home in Albuquerque. A resident of Albuquerque since 1952. He was born in Chicago, IL on January 20, 1907. He was educated in public schools and graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Armour) in Chicago, IL with a Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering Class of 1928. He dedicated his entire business career to various property and casualty insurance fields. He was a member in the Independent Insurance Agents of New Mexico and Fire Protection Engineering Society of Armour Institute of Technology. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alishia (Lee) C. Burke; and their daughter, Nancy A. Burke, a teacher at Highland High School for 27 years. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence E. Burke. He is survived by his sister, Edna M. Maina of Oak Lawn, IL. Cremation has taken place and a private service was held. Teresa Everheart and her family would like to thank Hospice and their friends for their kindness and support. Mrs. Mary Anne Chavez, 49, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on July 31, 2000, peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family. Mrs. Chavez was the beloved wife of Richard Troncin. She is also survived by her former husband, Richard Chavez; a daughter, Veronica Romero and husband, John; two sons, Daniel Chavez and Mario Chavez; her mother, Lola Garcia; brothers and sisters, Julia Garcia and husband, Joe, Jane Woods and husband, Mel, Lucy Torres and husband, Joe, Ralph Garcia and wife, Ida, Cecilia Gallegos and husband, Richard, Robert Garcia and wife, Kelly, Pasty Gonzales and husband, Ray, Philomena Torres and husband, Isidro, Rita Garcia and husband, Christian and Mary Frances Solis and husband, Alfonso; four grandchildren, J.J., Eric, Adam and Leticia Romero; many aunts, uncles; 37 nieces and nephews; and 37 great-nieces and nephews; cousins and friends. Mrs. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening, 7:00 p.m., at St. Therese Catholic Church, 300 Mildred NW, with Mary Trujillo, reciting. Ophelia Cordova, 86, a resident from Las Vegas, New Mexico, formerly from San Cristobal, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2000 at the family home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Armando Cordova; a daughter, Leonal Cordova; and two grandchildren, Martin Loera and Rudy Cardenas. She is survived by two sons, Elmer Cordova from Wyoming and Paul Cordova from Las Vegas, NM; three daughters, Ruth Visserraga and husband, Antonio from Taos, Lucy Parada from Colorado Springs, and Frances Loera and husband, Bobby from Las Vegas, NM; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A Rosary was recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at Lujan's Chapel in Taos. A Rosary was recited Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., at the Catholic Church in San Cristobal. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, August 2, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at the same church. Interment will follow at the San Cristobal Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers: Robert E. G. Luella E. Deal, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Monday, July 31, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene M. Hotzel of Albuquerque; sons, Donald W. Hotzel and wife, Mary Ann of Huntsville, AL and Alfred W. Hotzel and wife, Jo Anne of Delavan, WI; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Link and husband, Gordon of Milwaukee, WI, Theresa Koser and husband, Ervin of Sturtevant, WI, Betty Marklelewski and husband, Dick of Cottage Grove, WI and Dorothy Sullivan of Wisconsin; brothers, Roger Grandow and wife, Dorothy of Wisconsin, Clyde Grandeau and wife, Evelyn of California and Norman Grandow of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Deal; and son, Ronald W. Hotzel. Theola C. Duke, 82, of Arroyo Grande, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000 at her residence. There will be no services. Mrs. Duke was born July 3, 1918 in Madison County, Nebraska. A resident of Arroyo Grande since 1986, she moved her from Albuquerque. She was active in a variety of bridge groups, was a member of the Five Cities Newcomers Club, and taught English as a second language to adults as a volunteer. Mrs. Duke is survived by three children, Bruce J. Muhr and wife, Mary of Albuquerque, Roger C. Muhr and wife, Alice of Gering, NE, and Elizabeth C. Kaminaka and husband, Masaki Stephen of Arroyo Grande; two sisters, Helen Cheasebro of Wyoming and Lorna Rife of South Carolina; one brother, Dever Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Duke, in 1984.

P.E. (Slim) Edwards, 67, a resident of Edgewood, NM since 1988, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at his home.
Slim was born to Willie and Haney Sue Edwards on August 8, 1932 in Neshoba County, Mississippi.
He was a construction framer for many years before he retired.
Slim married Shirley A. Mills on February 27, 1965 in Albuquerque, she survives him of the home.

A Memorial service will be held Thursday, August 3, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary Chapel in Moriarty, NM.

Robert R. Fulgham, age 76, a resident of Peralta, NM, passed away on July 30, 2000. He was a member of The American Quarter Horse Association, Palomino Horse Association, and the Paint Horse Association. He was also a charter member of the Valencia Sheriff Posse Association. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Richard R. Fulgham on May, 1966; wife, Laura Louise Fulgham on July, 1971; wife, Nancy E. Fulgham on May, 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Naoma Fulgham-Dixon and her husband, Keith A. of Peralta, Elona K. Rocco and husband, Tom R. of Roseville, CA; and step-son, John B. Chubbuck of Bloomfield, NM; brothers and sisters, Daisy Eaton of Clovis, NM, Fay Bradley of Lancaster, CA, Ray Fulgham of Clovis, NM, Walter Fulgham of Lubbock, TX, and Betty Webb of Prineville, OR; grandchildren, Timothy Shan Fulgham and wife, Peggy of California, Janell Gallegos and husband, Phillip of Los Lunas, Johnny R. Hawks and wife, Tracy of Los Lunas, Shayleen M. Rocco of Roseville, CA, Justus R. Hawks of Bosque Farms, NM, Nathan W. Chubbuck of Gunnison, CO, Ross B. Rocco of Roseville, CA, Jesse E. Hawks of Bosque Farms, NM, Cresta D. Chubbuck of Gunnison, CO, and B. Shane Chubbuck and wife, Leticia of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Kaylie Anna Gallegos, Edward Manual Chubbuck, Tyler Justus Hawks. A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2000, 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at Romero Funeral Home. A graveside service will immediately follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.
