MARY SANCHEZ GALLEGOS of Santa Fe died Monday after a long battle with a brain tumor. She was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe and was the co-director of Rainbowland Child Care Center, where she cared for many of Santa Fe's children. She was educated at St. Anne's, Santa Fe Middle School and Santa Fe High School, and attended the University of New Mexico and Santa Fe Community College, where she acquired her CDA certification. She had many hobbies, including ceramics and photo cropping. She was preceded in death by her father, Lupe Sanchez Sr.; sister, Charlotte Sanchez; and brothers, Chris Sanchez and David King. She is survived by her husband, Elias Benny Gallegos; daughter, Lenore and husband Paul Mikkelson; son, Elias Gallegos and wife Erin; mother, Emma K. Sanchez; brother, Lupe Sanchez and wife Florence; sisters, Ida Pacheco, Cecilia Pacheco and husband Louie, Della C de Baca, Irene Sanchez, Angie Ozuna and husband Ted, Jackie Sanchez, Roberta Apodaca and husband Mickey; and many other relatives. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church. MARY JO "JODY" KERR, 88, of Los Alamos died Tuesday. She was born on a ranch in Floyd County, Texas. She spent her childhood in Louisiana and Estancia, graduating from Estancia High School in 1933. She was employed by Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Co. in Estancia as a contract manager, resigning in 1935 to marry. She came to Los Alamos in the early 1940s, where she was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission's Communications Department and was responsible for writing all work orders converting the Los Alamos telephone exchange from a manual to a rotary dial system. She was later employed by LANL and retired from the Accounting Department in 1971. She was among the first members of the First Baptist Church in Los Alamos. She was a charter member of Los Alamos Chapter No. 63, Order of the Eastern Star, serving New Mexico as grand chaplain in 1978. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal L. Kerr Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Vandervoort and husband Ray; son, Hal Jay Kerr, all of Los Alamos; and five grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Los Alamos. McGee Memorial Chapel, 983-9151.

FLORINDA J. MARTINEZ, 75, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Tuesday at her home. She was born in Lourdes and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Margarita Jaramillo. She is survived by her husband, Isidoro Martinez of the family home in Las Vegas, N.M.; children, Lucy Armijo and husband Ignacio, Robert Martinez and wife Georgenia, Merlinda Lopez and husband Gene, Gloria Martinez and husband Albino, Jerry Martinez and Darlene, Levi Martinez and Sadie, Joseph Martinez and Elaine Valdez, Dolores Zucher and husband Terry and Bernardo Martinez and Venessa, all of Las Vegas, N.M., Charlie Martinez and Monica of Denver, JoAnn Cruz and husband Manuel of Los Lunas, and Gilbert Martinez and wife Ida of Denver; grandson she raised, Charlie Martinez Jr.; 39 grandchildren; sisters, Connie Martinez, Isabel Archuleta and Betty Garcia, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; brother, Manuel Jaramillo of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at San Jose Cemetery. RAMON L. MOYA, 75, of El Rito died suddenly Tuesday. He served during the Korean War as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Korean War Service Medal and on Sept. 25, 1950, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked at Superior Motor Parts for 13 years. He was an usher at St. Anne Catholic Church for many years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2951. He was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants and loved watching them play. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Estefinita Moya; and sisters, Antonia Moya and Consuelo Alire. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Moya; children, Stephanie Ulibarri and husband Ronnie, James Moya, and Jeannie Baca and husband David Baca, all of Santa Fe, and Anthony Moya of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren; sister, Claudine Romero and husband Ventura of Santa Fe; brother, Delfine Moya and wife Lupe of El Rito; and many other relatives. CELINA V. ROYBAL, 88, of Espaņola died Tuesday. She retired from the Espaņola Schools after teaching for 42 years. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Espaņola, Sacred Heart of Jesus Society and the Holy Family Society. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Luella; parents, Abran and Ramoncita Vigil; brothers, Nicholas, Isidoro, Epimenio and Arsenio Vigil; and sisters, Rosalda Vigil, Susie Trujillo, Mela Hight and Eleuteria Trujillo. She is survived by her husband, Tony "Green" Roybal of the home; sons, David R. Roybal and wife Diana of Albuquerque, Lorenzo L. Roybal and wife Laurie of Denver, Reuben R. Roybal and wife Monica of El Rancho and Chris A. Roybal and wife Edwina of Espaņola; nine grandchildren; brother, Ernesto Vigil and wife Dolores of Espaņola; sisters, Ascension Lujan and husband Augustine of Espaņola, Theresa Morawski and husband Ed of Carson City, Nev., Cleotilde Bierre of Anaheim, Calif., and Virginia Allee and husband James of Anaheim, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Espaņola Hospital Auxiliary. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Espaņola. LORETTA A. VALDEZ, 43, of Taos died Monday. She was preceded in death by her father, Fernando Valdez. She is survived by her mother, Anita R. ELIA MERCEDES CHAVEZ, 71, of Gallina died Tuesday.
She loved music, animals, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Chavez; father, Gabriel Maestas Sr.; and brother, Daniel Maestas. She is survived by her mother, Eloisa Maestas; daughters, Sandra Garcia and Alfonso Suazo and Erminda Chavez; sons, Apolonio and Antonio Chavez; brother, Gabriel Maestas Jr. and Mary Ann; sisters, Evangeline Montoya and Presciliano, all of Gallina, and Josephine Martinez and Alfonso of Farmington; eight grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. MABEL S. CHAVEZ of San Pedro died Wednesday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maximiliano and Carlota Sanchez; and brother, Emilio Sanchez. She is survived by her husband, Ignacio Chavez; sons, Milo Chavez and wife Karen of Santa Fe, Don Chavez of Pasadena, Calif., and Michael Chavez of San Pedro; three grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Alice Martinez and husband Efraim of Albuquerque, Nora Rogers of Rio Rancho, Norena Ortiz and husband Don and Frances Lopez, both of Rio Rancho, Alfonso Sanchez and wife Dilia, Virginia Griego and husband Romolo, Evelyn Lovato and husband Juanito, and Robert Sanchez, all of Dixon; and many other relatives and friends. EDNA MARGARET HOLDEN, 85, of Santa Fe died Tuesday. She was born in Schenectady, N.Y., and came to New Mexico in 1998. She lived in Staten Island, N.Y., for 78 years, where she taught school for 41 years. She graduated from New York University with a master's degree in education. She was a member of the Staten Island Historical Society, a charter member of the Staten Island branch of the American Society of University Women and the Archeology Society of Staten Island. She was the author of "Holden's Staten Island, the history of Richmond County," published by Migration Studies. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Holden; and son, Charles Wallace. She is survived by three grandchildren; and many other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ponce de Leon Retirement Center, where a visitation will follow 4-5 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. DORIS JARAMILLO, 76, of Pilar died Wednesday. She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Hatten.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Clarence Jaramillo; children, Carol Flores and husband Gilbert of Elko, Nev., Ophelia Baca and husband Ben of Pilar, Linda Gallegos and husband Maximino of Velarde, and Deborah Padilla and husband Richard of Taos; 10 grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Pilar with burial to follow at Pilar Cemetery.

AGNES V. MARTINEZ, 90, of Mora died Thursday. She was born in Espaņola and was married in Peņa Blanca. She was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, where she served as president and member of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She came to Mora in 1937 as a teacher for the Weaving Department at the Mora Valley Vocational School. In 1945, the Joe Martinez and Fermin Pacheco family owned the Mora Independent Oil Company and the Nu Look Shoppe. She also ran a restaurant in Mora in the late 1950s. In 1957, she opened the Mora Valley Oil Company and managed it for more than 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe A. Martinez; son, Eugene Manuel Martinez; parents, Joe Telesfor and Cecilia R. Vigil; and brothers, Jose, Rafael, Adelaido, Otaviano Vigil; and sisters, Sarah Montoya, Beatriz Martinez and Aurora Martinez. She is survived by her sister, Ramona V. Garcia; daughters, Mary Frances Aragon and husband Juan, Cecille Wechsler and husband Jim; sons, Joseph A. Martinez, John D. Martinez and wife Andrea, and Robert P. Martinez and wife Betsy; 14 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the same church with burial to follow at the family plot in Las Aguitas.
