Wayne Hahn
Services:Have been held.
Mr. Wayne Hahn, 79, of Portales, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at his home.
He was born on July 7, 1924, in Portales, to Elver and Alvin Hahn.
He was a lifelong resident of Portales. He married Louise Barber on June 24, 1944, in Lubbock. They operated their dairy farm together for many years. He raised Appaloosa cutting horses and show sheep. One of his cutting horses was among the top 10 cutting horses in the nation in 1965, family members said.
He was a member of the Central Christian Church. He served as a county commissioner for two terms, and was one of the founding board members of the Roosevelt County Little Wranglers. He also served on the advisory board for the First National Bank. He was chosen as an Honorary Chapter Farmer and Honorary State Farmer for FFA, and was a 4-H leader for the Horse Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen Robert Hahn; a sister, Isla Ruth Hahn; and by his wife.
He is survived by three sons, Charles Hahn (and wife, Susan) of Phoenix, Harold Hahn (Beth) of El Paso and Carl Hahn (Diann) of Clovis; two daughters, June Johnson of Houston and Janice Cowen (Gaylen) of Portales; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Hahn of Roswell, A.L. Hahn of Marble Falls, Texas, and Fred Hahn of Granbury, Texas; and a sister, Wynema Shelby of Abilene, Kan.
Kenneth Broad and Allen Conner will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wendell and Monte Best, Charles Good, Buck Wilson, Jim Russell and Pat Boone.
Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Helen Hale
Services: Have been held.
Helen Hale, 86, of Portales, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Lubbock Healthcare Nursing Home.
She was born on Feb. 25, 1918, in Red River County, Texas, to Mae Ola and Oco Norris.
She was adopted by her aunt and her husband, Maggie and J. Coy Williams. She graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston in 1934. She attended the College of Industrial Arts and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1938. She married George M. Hale on July 1, 1938, in Clarksville, Texas. She then earned a master’s degree from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. She taught for 21 years in Clarksville before retiring in 1973. She served as a school board member from 1973 until 1984.
She moved to Portales in 1985, where she was a volunteer teacher’s aid. She was involved in education as a student, teacher, school board member and volunteer for 75 years. She also served as a Volunteer In Mission at McCurdy School in Espanola. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portales, United Methodist Women, AARP and the Retired Teacher’s Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George Williams; and by her husband.
Survivors include three sons, George A. “Jack” Hale (and wife, Mary) of Portales, Joe N. Hale (Carol) of Fruita, Colo. and Guy M. Hale of Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Cynthia Brandt (Phil) of Austin, Texas; a sister, Nell Ray of Vidor, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many friends.
The Rev. Harry Riser will officiate the services.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Adonis Lloyd “Cotton” Hall
Services: Have been held.
Adonis Lloyd “Cotton” Hall, 68, of Childress, Texas, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Childress, Texas.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1935, in Childress.
He married Barbara Fuller on May 20, 1960, in Clovis. He was a radio announcer and general manager for 30 years. For the past 13 years he was a self-employed boot maker in Childress. He served his country in the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Selena Fite of Clovis, Michelle Garnet of Amarillo and Celeste McPeak of California; a son, Kelvin Ticer; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Dale Sexton will officiate the services. Burial will be at Childress Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home of Childress.

Dorothy Hall
Services: Have been held.
Mrs. Dorothy Lee Hall, 76, of Clovis, died Saturday, July 30, 2003, at Laurel Plains Healthcare in Clovis.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1926, in Sweetwater, Okla., to August and Mahata Kothe.
She married John Edward Hall on July 17, 1946, in Hereford. She lived in Clovis for more than 30 years and was a retiree from the Clovis Public Schools.
Visitation for all family and friends will be held at Bill Hall’s house, 141 Manson Drive, to be followed by the graveside service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Lillie.
She is survived by a sister, Georgia Fields of Friona; three sons, Eddie Hall (and wife, Debbie) of Alvarado, Texas and Carl Hall and Bill Hall (Joanne) all of Clovis; four grandchildren, Jimmy Hall of Granbury, Texas, Jerry Hall of Florida and Casey and Kristi Hall, both of Clovis.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Mrs. Mary Hallford
Mrs. Mary Hallford, 96, of Portales, died Friday, June 21, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on July 7, 1906, in Hall County, Texas, to Ollie and Alexander Cooper. She was the oldest of her family. She lived her early life in the area where she was born.
On July 17, 1924, in Clarendon, Texas, she married Andy B. Hallford. They farmed in various places in Texas and New Mexico before settling in Portales in 1943. She helped her husband with running the farm, and also did seamstress work for a number of local women. Later she was employed as a seamstress for C.R. Anthony's.
After her husband's death in 1983, she moved to Golden Acres. Since October 1993, she had been a resident at the local rest home in Portales. Family members said she enjoyed going to the Portales Senior Citizens for lunch and the weekly dances; and playing Skip Bo and dominoes, which she generally won. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Buford and Doc Cooper; a sister, Lorene Brantley; a son, Garland Hallford, who died Dec. 11, 1999; a grandchild and a great-grandchild; and by her husband, Andy, who died Dec. 5, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Lavon Hallford of Portales; a daughter, Wanda (and husband Bill) Sweatt of Artesia; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Hallford of Portales; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Portales Cemetery.
The Rev. Farrell Odom officiated.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Tommy Haney
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Tommy L. Haney, 64, of Lubbock, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1940.
He had lived in Clovis for many years where he worked in music and entertainment and for the Pepsi Cola company. He traveled as a band leader with Loretta Lynn and was a band member for many years with Tiny Lynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; three brothers; two daughters; and a son.
Survivors include his wife, Dorthy Haney of Lubbock; two daughters, Judy Pevytoe of Lubbock and Cathy Reeves of Texas; a granddaughter, April Robins of Lubbock; a grandson; three sisters, Betty Richards and Faye Machen, both of Portales, and Vera Blodgett of Ft. Lupton, Colo.; a brother, Loyd Haney of Jamestown, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Floyd Hare
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Floyd Hare, 82, of Wylie, Texas, died Thursday evening, Oct. 16, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
He was born on June 28, 1921, in Throckmorton, Texas, to Lula Bell and Austin Hare.
His early years were spent in Throckmorton. While he was in high school, the family moved to Elida. On Dec. 19, 1940, he married Verna Thurman in Elida where they lived until he moved to Clovis and worked for Price’s Creamery for two years before returning to Elida. They moved to Odessa in 1951 where he worked as a self-employed trim contractor until 1971, when they moved to Wylie where he continued work as a contractor until retiring in 1986.
Family members said he was known for well-kept equipment, cleaning and polishing his tractors and lawn mowers as well as his car. He was a Baptist. Family members said he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed fishing and hunting and had taken the time to teach each grandchild how to shoot.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice House, 903 North Sam Houston, Odessa, Texas, 79761.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Charles R. (and wife Vivian) Hare of Royse City, Texas; two daughters, Velta (Travis) Case of Irving, Texas, and Elaine (A.P.) Martin of Odessa; a brother, Hershell “Rabbit” Hare of Amarillo; two sisters, Maxine Thurman of Truth or Consequences and Billie Shucker of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Rev. Travis Case officiated the graveside service in Elida Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.

Chester Harris
Services: Have been held.
Chester Harris, 67, of Clovis, died on Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born on Feb. 15, 1937, in Chicago, to Clarence Sr. and Anna Harris.
He married Winnie Thomas on Jan. 5, 1972, in Clovis. He came to Cannon Air Force Base in 1969 and retired after 21 years of service. He went to work for the City of Clovis at the Public Works Complex and retired after 20 years. He worked weekends as a security guard for Plains Regional Medical Center and retired after 15 years. Family members said he loved playing with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching football games on TV.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clarence Harris Jr.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Barbara Dawson (and husband, John), Golder Mallory and Ida Burgess, all of Clovis; a son, Chris Harris (LeAnna) of Clovis; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and other relatives.
W. Charles Green will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Military honors are by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons.
Arraignments are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.

Mary Carol Hartley
Services: Have been held.
Mary Carol Hartley, 62, of Clovis, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1941, in Waco, Texas, to Laddie Earl and Mary Elizabeth McMillan Broadway.
She married Teddy Lowe Hartley on May 25, 1962, in Waco, Texas. They moved to Clovis in 1970. She graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor’s degree in 1965. She was a mother, homemaker and community supporter, family members said.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Athenean, Delta Delta Delta at Texas Tech University, Tri Delta Alumni Association, Junior League in Lubbock, director of the women’s shelter in Clovis, Cities in Schools, Board of Directors for Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, New Mexico First, New Mexico Governor's Mansion Foundation, Democratic Party and Relay for Life in Clovis.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Tana Yarano (and husband Dan) of St. Paul, Minn.; two sons, Timothy Lowe Hartley (Alison) of Rockwall, Texas, and Taylor Lowe Hartley, M.D. of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother, Earl Broadway of Waco, Texas; three grandchildren, Curran Hartley, Aydan Hartley and Gillian Hartley Yarano, all of St. Paul, Minn.
Steve McElroy will officiate the services. Burial will follow at the Hollene Cemetery in Hollene.
Pallbearers will be Jerry A. McCutchin, Mark White, Dr. Charles E. Jones, Dr. Hugh R. Burch, Dr. Robert L. Clement and Armand L. Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Clovis. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.

Mary Lawrence Hartley
Services: Have been held.
Mary Lawrence Hartley, 81, of El Paso, Texas, died Jan. 7, 2004, at Monta Vista Nursing Home in El Paso, Texas.
She was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Harrisburg, Pa., to Val and Gladys Pickett Lawrence. She went to El Paso with her parents when she was 5 years old. She married Earl Hartley on Jan. 27, 1965, in El Paso. She owned the VIP Travel Agency and was a member of St. Frances on the Hill Episcopal Church in El Paso.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Helen Herrera of El Paso, Margaret Vandyken of Reno, Nev., Marian Ray of Raton and Marilyn Aldoff of Santa Teresa; two stepsons, Tom Hartley and Ted Hartley, both of Clovis; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Hollene Cemetery.
The Rev. John Rallinson will officiate the services.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.

Hayter, Sydney
The Rev. Sydney J. Hayter, 81, of Bastrop, La., died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in Bastrop.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1921, in MeGarele, Texas, to Sydney Johnson and Maude Case Hayter.
He was raised in Rogers. He was a retired minister and a graduate of Rhema Bible College in Broken Arrow, Okla. He was an evangelist and missionary in Mexico and the Philippines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Hayter; a grandson, Jeffery Hayter; three sisters, Hazel Melear, Alean O’Neal and Mae Craft; and three brothers, Buddy Hayter, Archie Hayter and Tony Hayter.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Stewart Hayter of Bastrop; two daughters, Barbara Olsen of Valley Center, Calif., and Donna Hemborge of Canyon Lake, Calif.; a stepson, Paul Hughes of Wichita, Kan.; two grandsons, Kevin and Travis Hemborge; two granddaughters, Brenda Hayter and Shaina Hughes; two great-grandchildren, Hallie and Dylon Hemborge; a sister, Barbara Platter of Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, Lewis Hayter of Clovis.
Services were held April 26, 2003, at Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop, La.
Brother Billy McBride and Brother Tracy Ferris officiated the services.
Burial was at Simsboro Cemetery in Simsboro, La.
Arrangements were by Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.

Charlton Heard
Services: Have been held.
Charlton Heard, 61, of Littlefield, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in Charleston, S.C.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1942, in Muleshoe to William Carl and Mattie Vaughn Heard. He was employed for the past 13 years as a ginner for the Amherst Cooperative Gin.
Survivors include a son, William Bryan Heard of Altdorf, Germany; a daughter, Angie Bauer of Charleston; two sisters, Karl Dean Helker of Keota, Okla., and Allene Harvey of Clovis; four grandchildren, Anna Louise Heard, Eric Maximillian Heard, Haley Faye Bauer and Adam Charlton Bauer; and his former wife, Pat Waller of Charleston.
Tracy Spencer will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Sudan Cemetery in Sudan, Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd Street, Lubbock, TX 79423.
Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe.

Mae Heflin
Services: Have been held.
Ms. Mae Heflin, 80, of Portales, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Salano, to Edna and W.H. Heflin.
She had been a resident of Portales for more than 70 years. She worked at Heflin Lumber Yard, where she hung wallpaper in houses. She worked on the family farm, driving the hay truck or baling and stacking hay. She drove a school bus for more than 30 years and she was a licensed beautician. She was a member of the Baptist Church and the Friendship Homemakers Club. Family members said her hobbies included ceramics.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, W.G. and Gerald Heflin; and three sisters, Lil Simpson, Opal Massey and Vernie “Pickle” Trapp.
He is survived by a son, Bud Miller (and wife, Barbara) of Portales; a daughter, Margaret Brake (and husband, Kenneth) of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, George A. Heflin of Littlefield, Texas; a sister, Nancy Jo Brown of Clovis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family members will officiate the services.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Porter Henry
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Porter Davis “Pat” Henry, 61, of Portales, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at his home.
He was born on May 25, 1941, in Carlsbad, to Madge and A.P. Henry.
He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1959. He attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1963 and a master’s degree in 1964. He married Jane Phillips on March 22, 1964, in Clovis.
Family members said he built an exemplary music program in Carlsbad, performing at Disneyland, Denver Broncos football games, the Orange Bowl, the Hula Bowl, Jimmy Carter’s inaugural parade and the Fourth of July parade in Washington, D.C.
He was the band director at Portales High School for four years and Farwell High School for another three years. In 2003, he was inducted into the New Mexico Music Educator’s Hall of Fame and received a distinguished service award from ENMU. He participated in the Clovis Community Band and Eastern’s Symphony Orchestra.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Pam Hartzog (and husband, Mickey) and Shelly Flake (and husband, Robert), all of Carrollton, Texas; four grandchildren, Kelsi and Cory Flake and Drew and Jayda Hartzog; his mother-in-law, Sheila Phillips of Clovis; a brother-in-law, Dr. William Phillips of San Antonio; and the Nymeyer family of Carlsbad.
The Rev. Harry Riser will officiate the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pat Henry Scholarship Fund in Music, c/o Portales National Bank, Drawer 888, Portales 88130 or the First United Methodist Church Music Ministry Fund in Portales.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Hicks, Winona Pierce
Services: Have been held.
Mrs. Winona Pierce Hicks, 88, of Clovis died Nov. 27, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1915, in Hollis, Okla., to Rueben Garfield and Ivy Lee Burrows Pierce.
She moved to Clovis in 1934 from Hollis and married Jason Hicks on July 20, 1935, in Clovis. She was a bookkeeper before retiring from Clovis Printing in 1974. She was a member of 16th and Pile Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Lee (and wife Lorie) Hicks of Socorro and Donald Floyd (and wife Sharon) Hicks of Clovis; four brothers, R.G. Pierce of Logan, Tex Pierce of Keller, Texas, and Gary Pierce and Danny Pierce, both of Hollis; two sisters, Helen Robinson and Linda Pierce, both of Pampa, Texas; and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Jim Gammon will officiate the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Children’s Home in Portales.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
