Benito Fresquez
, - March 17, 2006
Benito Fresquez, 85, of Taos passed away on March 17, 2006, born in the village of Chamisal, NM. His birth parents were Angelica & David Fresquez, stepmother, Eloida Fresquez all of whom preceded him in death as did infant brothers and then brothers, David E. and Joe Fresquez. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Iris. They met in Tuba City, Arizona where both were teachers on the Navajo (Dine) Reservation. His teaching career, especially math, extended to Chimayo, Penasco and retirement in Taos. He was remembered for his ambidexterity, sometimes writing with one hand and then switching to his left hand. Benito was an extremely private and quiet person but whose sense of humor would emerge unexpectedly to everyone's delight. His surviving family include brothers and sisters, Ruben Fresquez (Claudina), Esther Ortega (Gilbert), Elifas Fresquez (Beatrice), Sadie Davis (James), Marietta Barton (Roy), Rosalina Eichwald (Aaron), Roy Fresquez (Margie) and William Fresquez (June), sister in law, Ramona Fresquez plus many other relatives and close friends. He was an avid gardener, furniture and toymaker and animal lover. His particular charity was Menaul School, 301 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107 or any other charity of choice.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be followed by burial at the Santa Fe National cemetery. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps 1942-1946.

Flora Romero
March 18, 2006
Flora Romero, 71, of Llano Quemado passed away on March 18, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Olmedo Romero, daughter, Lily Fernandez (Paul) of Rock Springs, Wyoming, brothers, Dan Mondragon of Idaho and Edward Mondragon (Renee) of Denver, CO. She is also survived by grandchildren, Paul Fernandez Jr., Bryon Fernandez and Amanda Fernandez Liptak (Scott), great grandchildren, Devon, Breanne and Addyson Fernandez and Kaitlyn Liptak.
Rosary was recited on Wednesday, March 22, 2006. Funeral mass was held on Thursday, March 23, 2006. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Church. Interment was held at New Llano Quemado cemetery.

Paul A. Sanchez
, - March 20, 2006
Paul A. Sanchez, 49, of El Prado passed away on March 20, 2006. He is survived by his mother, Juanita M. Sanchez, brothers and sisters, Priscilla Dominguez (Edwin) of Albuquerque, Donald C. Sanchez (Theresa) of Taos and Nefe L. Sanchez of Taos, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins and other relatives.
Rosary was recited on March 22, 2006. Funeral mass was held on Thursday, March 23, 2006. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment was held at Dolores cemetery.

Fred E. Salazar
, - March 21, 2006
Fred E. Salazar, 66, of Pilar passed away on March 21, 2006. He is preceded in death by his parents Jose Bernabe & Cassandra Salazar, brothers, Alex & Jose B. Salazar Jr., sister, Rafaelita Schultze. He is survived by his wife, Dora Salazar, children, Pedro Salazar (Diana), Randy Salazar (Lisa), Laverne Salazar (Peter), Kristella Salazar (Joey) and Freida Salazar (Eddie), 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, numerous other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on March 23, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held March 24, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, interment followed at Pilar cemetery.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home for Fred Salazar.

Joe Ben Griego
March 24, 2006
Joe Ben Griego, 88, a lifelong resident of Talpa passed away on Friday, March 24, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Felicitas Griego, children, Ruby Martinez (Edward), Porfie Emsweller (Craig), Patricia Vasquez (late, Joe), Dorothy Sandoval (Roman), Joe Ben Griego, Jr., Pamela Maestas (Freddie), 34 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, sister, Manuelita Mondragon, granddaughter raised by him, Edwina Barela and numerous other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on Monday, March 27, 2006. Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006. Both services were held at the Talpa Catholic Church.

Juanita D. Montoya
March 25, 2006
Juanita D. Montoya, 94, of Los Cordovas passed away on March 25, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tito Montoya and daughter, Patsy Dazhan. She is survived by her children, Gloria Sanchez, Geraldine Gutierrez (Tony), Darlene Gutierrez (Arturo Casias), grandchildren she raised, Alyce Sanchez (Flavio) and Joseph Sanchez. She is also survived by five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Rosary was recited on March 29, 2006 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on March 30, 2006 at San Francisco de Asis Church. Interment followed at Los Cordovas cemetery.

Eddie Arguello
March 29, 2006
Eddie Arguello, 55, of Amalia passed away on March 29, 2006. He was a foreman at the Melby Ranch. He is preceded in death by his father Jose Evaristo Arguello, by his brothers, Rudy and Baldamar Arguello, an infant sister and a grandson, Mario Santiago Baca. He is survived by his children, Christy S. Baca (Mario) of Questa, Manuel Arguello of Amalia, Melissa Arguello (Chris Romero) of Albuquerque, Billie Jo Arguello of Questa, William Arguello of Amalia and Michael Alires (Ann Callahan) of Philadelphia, PA, his mother, Timia Arguello, his brothers and sisters, Jose E. Arguello, Jr (Francis), Bessie Sanders (Roland), Cora Williams (Bob), Edna Duran, Rugie Tafoya (Joe) ,David Arguello (Billie) and Charlie Arguello (Sue) and 9 grandchildren.
Rosary was recited on Monday, April 03, 2006. Funeral mass was held on Tuesday, April 04, 2006. Both services were held at Sacred Heart Church in Costilla. Interment was held at the Arguello Family cemetery in Amalia.

Nazario C. Suazo

Nazario C. Suazo, 83, from Taos passed away on April 06, 2006. He retired from Moly Corps in 1986. Recently he worked at First State Bank in the Taos Plaza. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Suazo, his sisters, Angela Montoya and Connie Roundtree and granddaughter, Erica Suazo. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Emma Suazo, his children, Annabell Suazo, Rosella Pineda, Patricia Lavato (Dennis), Jake Suazo (Lorraine), Josie Vargas (Gilbert), Rosemarie Suazo, Audrey Suazo Trujillo, and Arturo Suazo (Tula), stepchildren, John E. Cordova (Esther), Dennis Cordova (Josephina), Cecilia Cordova (John), Edwin Cordova (Geraldine), Joel Cordova (Vicki), Diana Cordova (Les), Yolanda Younger (Chris), his brother, Augustine Suazo (Thelma) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on Sunday, April 09, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Funeral mass was held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment was held at Dolores cemetery.

Liana Arellano
, - April 9, 2006
Liana Arellano, 38, of Chamisal passed away on April 09, 2006. She is preceded in death by her father, Ernestino Arellano, brothers, Daniel and Marvin Arellano. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl N. and Krystal P. Vigil, mother, Frances Arellano, brother, Benito Arellano, sisters, Della Harris, Tina Millner, Perla Clifton, Eva Trujillo and Margaret Gunter and many other relatives.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 11 AM at Penasco Presbyterian Church with interment to follow at Chamisal cemetery.

Joyce E. Collins
April 10, 2006
Joyce E. Collins, 84, of Taos, NM and formerly of Torrington, Wyoming from 1948 to 1973 and of Fort Laramie from 1973 to 1988 passed away on April 10, 2006. She had a Master in Fine Art and was President of Wyoming Artist Association and has a painting of the paint pods of Yellowstone National Park displayed at the Wyoming Senator's Office in Washington. She taught art at Goshen County Community College and Eastern Wyoming College. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles Collins. She is survived by her daughter, Jill L. Collins Childs of Albuquerque, NM sons, Charles Robert Collins of Taos, NM and Peter Ralph Collins (Cynthia) of Castle Rock, CO and sister, Jane Flaherty (Richard) of Park Rapid, Minnesota. She is also survived by grandchildren, James Norman Childs (Andrea), Sarah Morning Sun Bison (Charging Bear), Jessica Mariah Zoltek (Michael), great grandchildren, Lauren Elaina Childs, James Colin Childs and Abigail Marie Childs.

Clodoveo Rivera, 96, of Taos passed away on April 12, 2006. He worked in mines through out the Southwest. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Criselda Archuletta, Tila Terry and Clorinda Rivera, his brothers, Salvador Rivera, Frank Rivera and Daniel Rivera and grandson, Stifka Rivera. He is survived by his wife, Marie Rivera, children, Patrick Rivera from Costilla, Robert Rivera from Taos, Steven Rivera (Berlinda) from Amalia, Richard Henry Rivera (Pauline) from Denver, CO, David Rivera from Taos, Ted Trujillo from Red River, Raymond Varela (Christina) from Stockton, CA, Carla Gonzales (Gary) from Taos and Louise Graves (Tony) from Taos, sisters, Orvila Cordova (Amado) from Colorado Springs, CO and Juanita Leyba from Tucson, Arizona, brother Joe Rivera (Louise) from Chicago, IL, 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Evening service was held on Friday, April 14, 2006 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Taos. Funeral service was held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Taos. Interment followed at the Rivera Family cemetery.

Norberto V. Vigil

Norbert Vigil, 64, of Arroyo Hondo passed away on April 13, 2006. He is preceded in death by parents, Jose Dolores and Macedonia Vigil, grandson, Vicente Vigil, brothers, Alejandro and Filadelfio Vigil. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Vigil, children, Norberta Vigil, Paul Vigil (Tina), Miriam Vigil, FloraLea Trujillo, brothers, Pacomio Vigil (Rita), Steve Vigil (Lorena), Ben Vigil (Maria), Jose Dolores Vigil (Veronica), sisters, Juana Jaramillo (Paul), Maximiana Vigil, grandchildren, Katrina Madrid, Fabian Varos, Andres Vigil, Jacob, JamieLee, Krystal and James Gonzales and great grandchildren. Ayesha and Gary Flores Jr.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 17, 2006 at 7 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows in Arroyo Hondo. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows with interment to follow at upper Arroyo Hondo cemetery.

Mary Ann Connelly
, - April 15, 2006
Mary Ann Connelly, 79, of Taos, passed away Saturday April 15, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Bernard James Anthony Connelly, originally of Penn, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Ruth Barnette. She is survived by her daughters Cathy Ann and Kay Ann, her son-in-law David, and her grandchildren J.B. and Margaret, all of Taos. Born May 18, 1926 in Topeka, Kansas she lived most of her adult life prior to marriage in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and attended the Colorado School of Fine Art. Mrs. Connelly ultimately resided in Southern California for forty-plus years and was active in many civic and social organizations including Beta Sigma Phi, the PTA, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Girl Scouts. While in Taos she helped form a chapter of the Red Hat Society, and was involved with the local American Association of University Women (AAUW) chapter. Mrs. Connelly was an accomplished swing dancer and visual artist, ultimately showing her paintings as part of the prestigious Laguna Beach Arts Festival. Always busy, she was also a great gardener, avid reader, pursuer of continual spiritual evolution, lover of the outdoors -- particularly New Mexico's and Colorado's mountains, and an insatiable traveler. Mrs. Connelly was a wonderful and much loved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and friend who organized us all and kept us on track. She will be much missed, but will live daily in our hearts. She was an example for all of us as to how to conduct ourselves in life and maximize our happiness - and that of others.
Memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Rivera Chapel.

Juan Francisco Martinez

Juan Francisco Martinez, 76, of Taos passed away on April 19, 2006. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemarie Marquez, brothers, Abrencio and Melecio Martinez and sister Donelia Gonzales. He is survived by his children, Pablo Martinez (Debbie), Jeanette Martinez (Alex), Debbie Martinez, Lori Pavelko (Scott) and Frank Martinez. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, sisters and brother, Lupita Muniz, Rutelio Martinez, Ursinia Lujan and Lydia Paiz (Joe).
Rosary was recited on Sunday, April 23, 2006. Funeral mass was held on Monday, April 24, 2006. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery
