HARRY WHITMAN ORBAUGH, 69, of Cochiti Lake died Thursday.
He was born and grew up in Tulsa, Okla., and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Tulsa. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea following the Korean War as a cryptographer. He was employed by several oil companies including Kerr-McGee in Oklahoma City, and Transcontinental Oil. When the oil business in that area began to decline, he took a position with the Caddo Parish School Board of Louisiana to serve as an administrator in human resources until health forced his retirement in 1996. He and his wife, the Rev. Deacon Phyllis Orbaugh, moved to Cochiti Lake in 1997 so that she could serve at Holy Faith Church in Santa Fe. He loved animals, cooking, gardening, entertaining and spending time with his family. He was active in The Church of The Holy Faith, Santa Fe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Andrews and Blossom Dot Orbaugh; and brother, John William Orbaugh.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Kathalyn Orbaugh Merrion of Farmington and Sharalyn Orbaugh of Vancover, B.C.; son, Marcus Whitman Orbaugh of Los Alamos; and one granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Shelter and Humane Society, 1929 Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe, N.M. 87505, Bienvenidos Outreach Program, 1219 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505 and The Church of The Holy Faith Homeless Food Ministry, 311 E. Palace Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87505, c/o Laura Ford. A funeral service and Holy Eucharist will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Holy Faith, 311 E. Palace Ave., with burial to take place at Forest Park Cemetery, Fort Smith, Ark.

ELVIN A. VALVERDE, 72, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday. A former resident of Albuquerque, he was born in Trementina. He spent his life working in the civilian sector and for the government at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a sheet metal mechanic working on several nuclear submarines. He was a dedicated family man.
He was preceded in death by his father, Patricio; mother, Amy; sisters, Doris Medina and Marcella Fratzola; and brother Patricio, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Elvin Jr. and wife Jennifer, David and wife Renee, and Lisa Wymer and husband Steve; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; sisters, Leota Romero, Vern Gonzales, Edna Fowler, and Irma Peter; favorite yellow lab, Ashley; and many other relatives and friends.
A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service in Santa Fe with burial services to follow at 3 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

EDONILIA CRUZ, 91, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Monday at the Vegas Grandes Nursing Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Chacon and was a former resident of Ojo Feliz. She lived in Wyoming for 28 years, then moved to Arvada, Colo., until 1977 and then moved to Las Vegas, N.M. She loved crocheting, sewing macrame, cooking and baking. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel and Cleofas Vigil; husband, Juan A. Cruz; and brother, Flavio Vigil. She is survived by her children, Emilia Duran and husband Noe of Chacon, Vidilia Valdez and husband Emilio of Ojo Feliz, Della Olivas and husband Baltazar of Holman, Roseanne Garcia and husband Jesse of Pinole, Calif., Leo Cruz and wife Vangie of Hanna, Wyo., Jose "Trini" Cruz and wife Levenia of Rodeo, Calif., John Cruz and wife Cecilia of Windsor, Colo., and Manuel Cruz and wife Margaret of Westminster, Colo.; 31 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Epifamio Vigil and wife Seniada, Antonia Alcon, and Priscilla Montoya, all of Ojo Feliz, and Elizardo Vigil of Salt Lake City, Utah; and many other relatives and friends. She will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel today until 5 p.m. where family and friends may call. A rosary will be recited at 7 tonight at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. ALAN F. LEE, 76, of Santa Fe died Saturday at St. Vincent Hospital after a fall at his home. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Bede's Episcopal Church followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salazar Partnership, 978 Indian Ridge Road, Santa Fe, N.M., 87501, in care of the Alan Lee Memorial. The donations will be used to provide reading books for the elementary school students for them to begin their personal libraries. Donations may also be made to the MoveOn.org Voter Fund, P.O. JUAN E. MARTINEZ, 81, of Alcalde died Tuesday. He had been employed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the state Highway Department and the Rio Grande Center at Embudo. Upon his retirement, he continued to serve his community by actively working for the Alcalde Community Water Association. He loved music, sports, road trips and his family pets. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sophia. He is survived by his wife, Anita; sons, David of Santa Fe, Roger of Albuquerque, and Paul and wife Yvonne of San Pedro; daughters, Kathy Bustos and husband Tito of Las Cruces, and Theresa of Alcalde; four grandchildren; brothers, Joe and wife Frances, and Ross and wife Tere; sister, Lorraine and husband Gilbert; and many other relatives. A visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. today with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home in Española. Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan, followed by cremation and private burial at the La Villita Catholic Cemetery at a later date. SIXTO MONTOYA, 63, of Santa Fe died Sunday of a sudden, unexpected illness. He was originally from Ensenada and was a northern New Mexico rancher for most of his life. In the 1960s, he was a member of the 20/30 Club, the Safety Committee Club, the Circle of Honor for United Parcel Service, the Teamsters Union Local 492 and St. Anne's Catholic Church in Santa Fe. He drove for the United Parcel Service out of the Española and Santa Fe centers for numerous years, having served the communities of Chimayó, Truchas, Cordova, Ojo Sarco, Trampas, Peñasco and Vadito, and in later years served the community of White Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Amalia Montoya. He is survived by his wife, Belen "Bea" Montoya of Santa Fe; brothers and sisters, Manuel Montoya and wife Angelina of Grants, Rebecca Jefferson and husband Reedy of California, Annie Gallegos of Utah and Rita Challenger and husband Larry of Rio Rancho; and many other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. DOROTHY LOUISE TEPFER SHUBART, 79, of Santa Fe died Saturday. She was born in Fort Collins, Colo. She was an artist, art teacher, portrait painter and ceramicist. She attended Denver Art School, Colorado Woman's College and the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she was a Gund Scholar. She received her bachelor's degree from St. Thomas Acquinas College in 1974 and her master of arts from the College of New Rochelle in 1978. She was an American Scholastic, a member of the Rainbow Girls, a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the PTA Scholarship Committee, PDK, the Sierra Club and EDF. An avid writer, her other hobbies included gardening, watercolor, photography, outdoor recreation and piano. She was an active member of the community and a volunteer at many libraries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Shubart; children, Richard and Lorenne; and sister, Carol. She is survived her sister, Barbara and husband Donald; three grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Santa Fe National Cemetery. EDITH A. GARCIA, 79, of La Puebla died Saturday after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolpho B. Garcia; and son, Tommy Lee Garcia.
She was a great cook and loved to garden. She loved company and to interact and joke with friends.
She is survived by her children, Ernie Garcia and wife Liz of Sombrillo, Eddie J. Garcia and companion Suzanna Chavez, Sam Garcia and companion Una Gutierrez, Betty Garcia and companion James Rodriguez, all of La Puebla, and Lina Garcia of La Mesilla; brother, Cruz Arana of Alamogordo; sisters, JoAnn Noel and Becky Schaffer, both of California, Amy Arana of Albuquerque and Linda Chavez of California; 25 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayó. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the same church with burial to follow at La Puebla Cemetery.

JUAN MARTINEZ, 86, of Rodarte died Friday in Rio Lucio.
He was a World War II Army veteran having served in Germany and England. He returned home to work as a miner for the Anaconda Mining Company in Butte, Mont., until 1957. He was a rancher and carpenter in the Peñasco/Taos areas as well as in Texas. He enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends at the casino and fighting fires with the U.S. Forest Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Dionicio and Simonita Martinez; wife, Filia Martinez; second wife, Carolina Martinez; brother, Anastacio Martinez; and sister, Brigida Mascarenas.
He is survived by his son, Nelson Martinez and his wife Theresa of Rio Lucio; daughters, Evelyn Rodriguez and husband Wilfred of Rio Lucio and Diane Barela and husband Richard of Santa Fe; brothers, Fares Martinez and wife Adelina of Douglas, Ariz., and Peter Martinez and wife Virginia of Grants; sisters, Julia Pollack and husband Roy of Vadito, Anna Martinez of Albuquerque, Tina Martinez and Cande Forbes and husband Bob, all of Henderson, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and many other relatives.
