Richard Hensley

Services are pending for Richard Hensley, 80, who passed away March 11 in Las Vegas. Services will be held in Missouri.

He was born July 24, 1925 in Pennsylvania. He was a 13-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Boulder City.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years. He later worked for the government as a civil service employee.

His wife Mary Hensley of Pahrump and son Michael Smith of Florida survive him.

His parents preceded him in death.

Fay Johns

Private services will be held for Fay J. Johns, 87, who passed away at home March 9 with her family close at hand.

She was born Nov. 19, 1918 in Rockland, Idaho, the youngest of 10 children. She was a Pahrump resident since 1979.

She helped build ships in shipyards during World War II to support the war effort. Later, she and her husband worked in Death Valley, Calif., between 1947 and 1950. They moved to Las Vegas in 1950 and had two children, David and Karen. She then retired from the food service industry and moved to Pahrump.

She was a longtime member of TOPS Chapter 116 and held her status for 10 years. She was also a member of the Classy Ladies from 1993 to 2001.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. Her feeling for life was never to quit or give up hope; no matter what the situation was and that it was always in God's hands. She fought a courageous battle against cancer right to the end. Her doctors attributed her tremendously positive attitude for her having fought the disease for so long.

Her son David, daughter Karen and four beautiful grandchildren survive her.

Her first and second husbands preceded her in death.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice or Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.

Marion Freeman

Marion F. Freeman, former Pahrump resident, passed away Feb. 28 at Montesano Health and Rehab Center in Montesano, Wash., after an extended illness. She was 84.

Marion was born March 23, 1921 in Oshkosh, Wis., where she graduated from high school in 1939. Most of her adult life she was employed as a nurse's aide in hospitals and nursing homes. She retired in 1984 and relocated to Tacoma, Wash., in 1986, residing there until 1991, when she and her family moved to Springville, Calif.

In September of 1995, the family relocated once again, this time to Pahrump.

In July of 2003 she accompanied her daughter and family to Aberdeen, Wash.

Marion was a strong-willed, independent woman who believed in assisting others less fortunate than her whenever she could. She enjoyed handicrafts her entire life, especially crocheting Afghans and tablecloths for her family.

Her daughter Bridget Pannell of Aberdeen, Wash.; granddaughters Katie Kehoe of Eatonville, Wash., and Brenda Pannell of Aberdeen, Wash.; and two great grandsons Alex and Justin Brandt of Eatonville, Wash., survive her.

A graveside inurnment will take place this summer in Oshkosh, Wis. Friends are invited to sign the family's online guest book at www.whitesidefamilymortuaries.com.

Lee Dorsey

No services will be held for Lee Daniel Dorsey Jr., 76, who passed away March 6.

He was born June 17, 1929 in Oak Park, Ill. He was a two-year resident of Pahrump.

He served in the U.S. Navy. He later worked as a Nevada County building inspector for Nevada County, Calif., from which he retired.

His wife Frances of Pahrump; children Lee Dorsey III of Medford, Ore., Glenn Dorsey of Florida, Drew Dorsey of Roseburg, Ore., and Melody Bare of Union, Ore.; sister Carole Murbach of Pasco, Wash.; and nine grandchildren survive him.

Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society in Las Vegas handled the arrangements. (03/06/06)

William Thomas

Private services are pending for William Wheeler Thomas, 81, who passed away March 6 in Las Vegas.

He was born August 30, 1924 in Oklahoma. He has been a Pahrump resident since 1987.

He was a World War II veteran. He was later a meat cutter and worked in the grocery business for many years in Las Vegas. He was active in rodeo and parade activities in Las Vegas and Henderson and raised Morgan horses in Henderson and Pahrump. He was also an internationally published cowboy poet.

His daughters Kathleen (Brigadier General Lloyd) Dodd of Colorado and Genevieve Reed; brothers Reverend Glen (Rita) Thomas of Leesville, La., Bob (Alice) Thomas of Phoenix, Ariz., and Gale (Carol) Thomas of Prescott, Ariz.; sisters Almeda (James) Maniace of Grant, N.M., and Faye Terry of Buckeye, Ariz.; longtime companion Carol Tibbetts of Pahrump; and many stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren survive him.

His first wife Joan Mary Thomas and second wife Vena Thomas preceded him in death.

Neptune Society of Nye County handled the arrangements. (03/06/06)

Betty Wagner

Graveside services for Betty Lou Wagner, 77, who passed away March 13 in Las Vegas, will be held at 10:40 a.m. today at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery in Boulder City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at South Valley Southern Baptist Church, 7050 S. Homestead Road in Pahrump.

She was born Jan. 4, 1929. She was a 10-year resident of Pahrump who bred and raised Maltese dogs.

Her daughter Janis Johnson of California; grandson Justin Hammerlin of California; and brother Raphael Cotter of Missouri survive her.

Her husband Al preceded her in death.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Herb Tobman

Services for Herb Tobman, 81, who passed away March 14 in Las Vegas, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas.

He was born Dec. 20, 1924 in Bronx, N.Y. He was a 56-year resident of Las Vegas.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was later a hotel owner and operator.

His wife of 58 years Jean Tobman; sister Helen Kruskal; daughters Marilyn (John) Moran, Helen, Janie (Barry) Moore; son Alan Tobman; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild survive him.

Donations in his name may be made to Westcare Foundation, 900 Grier Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89119.

Richard Garcia
Richard Leroy Garcia went to be with the Lord Oct. 2, 2006.

He was born June 30, 1931 in Oakland, Calif., to Manual and Minnie Garcia. He grew up in San Leandro, Calif., and spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay area, moving to Pahrump in 2001.

Richard was the youngest of eight siblings. His many interests included traveling and being on the go. He found Pahrump to be his perfect place.

His son Dennis (Kimberly) of Merced, Calif.; sisters Dorothy (Bill) Yugo of Pioneer, Calif., Bea Morris, Hazel Anderson and Mary Gondal; brothers Joe and Bob Garcia; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and loving companion Evelyn Mauvy survive him.

He will be missed by his family and friends.

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be sent to Nathan Adelson Hospice of Pahrump. (10/02/06)

Michael Szerenyi

Services were held Thursday for Michael J. Szerenyi, 67, who passed away Dec. 25.

He was born March 21, 1938 in Budapest, Hungary. He was a 14-year resident of Pahrump.

He was a retired facilities engineer who worked in plastic manufacturing.

His wife LaVonda Szerenyi of Pahrump; sons David Szerenyi of Las Vegas and Tom Minnehan of Healdsburg, Calif.; daughters Michelle Vigil and Pam Parker, both of Riverside, Calif., Sue Malsberger of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Cathy Minnehan of Pahrump; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren survive him.

Joe Pelliccioni

No services will be held for Joe "Maury Schwartz" Pelliccioni, 75, who passed away Dec. 19 in Las Vegas.

He was born April 28, 1930 in Chicago, Ill. He was a resident of Pahrump since 1993, coming from Las Vegas.

He was a card dealer at The Riviera in Las Vegas. He retired in 1993.

His daughters Lisa Jo Wilson of Lemon Valley and Paula Jo Pelliccioni of Nevada; and one grandchild survive him.
