Loretta Thompson

MILFORD — Loretta went to be with the Lord, on Nov. 9, 2003.

After being born at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, on Jan. 18, 1937, Loretta was brought home to Milford, by her mother and father, Homer and Cecile Pier.

She attended the Milford Central School.

Loretta married Dick Thompson of Morris, on Feb. 15, 1953. They were married for 50 years.

She was the proud mother to four children and their spouses, Linda Lee Thompson of Nashville, Tenn., Janet Elaine and Robert Hamilton of Charlotte, N.C., Marlene Loretta and Joseph Bieber of Milford, and John Richard and Diane Thompson of West Oneonta. Loretta was the loving grandmother to Angel (granddaughter) and Mike Burrell, Sam (grandson) and Angela Saunders, Stephanie Ryman, Sandra Hamilton, Jeffrey and Travis Bieber and Skylar and Gaylen Thompson. She was also a great-grandmother to Amanda and John Michael Burrell.

She is survived by her mother, Cecile Pier of Oneonta; her sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Robert Moore of Milford; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Pamela Pier also of Milford; her aunt, Ethel Shaw; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, Homer Pier of Milford, and a brother, Roger Pier also of Milford.

Loretta's joys in life include too many to name. Some of them being, a nurturing homemaker, a gardener with the "gift of a green thumb," caring for the Lord's singing birds, enjoy listening to her husband and soul mate music and songs for many years. She had a gift of making people feel important, even if she had known you for years or had just met you. By just the words she spoke, a phrase she said, or her smile could light up the sky.

Those fortunate enough to have known and loved Loretta, know that you are also a part of her family.

Her family would like to express their outmost appreciation to Dr. Yoshiro Matsuo, Dr. Henry Keys and their "angelic" team of staff, Catskill Area Hospice for their love and compassionate care and to everyone that has sent their love and concerns these last few months. "We Thank You!"

The Lord knows that if she could have her wish granted, it would be that everyone "... love one another."

A burial service for Loretta will be at the Milford Methodist Church Cemetery on Nov. 12, 2003, at noon.

After the services, the family would like everyone to attend "A Celebration of Life" in remembrance of Loretta at the Milford American Legion, West Main Street, Milford.

In lieu of gifts and flowers, please send donations to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
