Mary I. Williams

MASONVILLE — Mary I. Williams, 94, a resident at the Valley View Nursing Home, Norwich, and formerly of Star Route, Masonville, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Nov. 23, 2003, at the nursing home.

She was born Oct. 1, 1909, in Sault Saint Marie, Mich., the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary Ball Norton.

On Oct. 17, 1929, she married John H. Williams in Bainbridge. He predeceased her on April 1, 1986. Mr. and Mrs. Williams owned and operated a dairy farm in Masonville for several years.

She is survived by five daughters, Dorothy Santic of Masonville, Kittie Gabaccia of Bainbridge, Doris Hadeler of Afton, Gloria Williams of Sidney, and Nancy Sharpless of Wilmington, Del.; two sons, Robert J. Williams of Masonville, and David H. Williams of Guilford. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren.

A brother, Guy Norton predeceased his sister.

Private memorial services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the Sidney United Methodist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at their convenience Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be at the family's convenience in the Bennettsville Cemetery, Bennettsville.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Masonville Emergency Squad if desired.

Evelyn P. White

INVERNESS, Fla. — Mrs. Evelyn P. White of Inverness, Fla., 90, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 19, 2003, at the home of her nephew, Tony Hogan of Homosassa, Fla., under the care of family and Hospice of Citrus County.

She was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Otego, the daughter of Timothy and Mary (Conway) Place.

Mrs. White was married to Stanley White on Aug. 12, 1933.

Mrs. White was a resident of West Oneonta, where she had a beauty salon. She moved to Inverness in 1995.

Mrs. White was a member of the Hernando Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mrs. White is survived by her sister, Irene Hogan of Homosassa; two grandchildren, Ronald White and Crystal Yoder of Las Vegas, Nev.; three great-grandchildren, Melissa Bernhardt, Kyle Yoder and Alex Yoder; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Pastor Robert McKay of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Oneonta officiating. Burial will be at the West Oneonta Cemetery, West Oneonta.

Mrs. White's family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta on Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. when those who wish may call at the funeral home.

It has been requested, that in lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to your local Hospice.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Shirley M. Giglio

ONEONTA — Shirley M. Giglio, 70, of Oneonta passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, after a brief illness.

Shirley was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in Scotia, the daughter of Kenneth and Lezetta (Case) Walling Sr.

She married Vincent (Jim) Giglio on June 20, 1959, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.

Shirley was a teachers aide at Center Street School for 28 years until recent illness forced her retirement.

She was a lifelong area resident and attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

Shirley is survived by her husband at home; one son, David V. and his fiancee, Kathleen Fulton, of Oneonta; one granddaughter, Nicole E. Giglio of Laurens; and two brothers, Kenneth Walling Sr. of Morris and Daniel Walling of West Palm Beach, Fla.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Jerry Makely

GILBOA — Jerry Makely Jr., 81, of Gilboa passed away on Nov. 21, 2003, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Jerry was born in Gilboa on July 28, 1922, son of the late Jerry and Ina (Smith) Makely Sr.

He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Serving in the Aleutians, he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star. He also received the Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Ribbon.

He went to work after the war for Mountain Side Farms Dairy and worked there 40 years, after which he retired.

He was a member of the American Legion post of Prattsville, and a former member of the South Gilboa Grange. He was also a member of the Conesville U.M. Church in Conesville.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Olive (Brink) Makely, of Gilboa; a daughter, June Marie Abrams and her husband, Robert; and two granddaughters, Hannah and Cory Ann Abrams, all of Conesville.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Conesville U.M. Church in Conesville. Friends may call at the Cunningham Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. tiday. Interment will be in the Manorkill Cemetery in Manorkill.

Helen Dyckman

GREENLAWN — Helen Theresa Dyckman, of Greenlawn, Long Island, passed away at Huntington Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003.

She was born June 30, 1916, on Long Island, the daughter of John and Catherine (Quatz) Wulforst.

She married Clarence R. Dyckman in Hicksville on Sept. 10, 1939. He predeceased her on May 30, 1964.

Helen was a hard worker her entire life and a friend to all who crossed her path. She is remembered by family and friends as someone who always had a kind word to say about others. She was truly a faithful, loving, caring, optimistic and fun-loving woman.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Marion Butts of Otego and Dorothy Slavin of Huntington; four grandchildren, Barbara (John) Cajowski of Commack, Randy (Kimberly Marie) Butts of New Berlin, James G. Slavin of Plainedge and Kimberly Anne Butts of Watervliet; three great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Kyle Cajowski and Kyler Butts; one brother, John Wulforst of Shirley; and one sister Eva (Richard) Kuhl of Huntington Station.

Two sons-in-law predeceased her, Gary R. Butts on March 2, 1998, and James J. Slavin on Feb. 28, 2003. Two sisters, Rosalie Wulforst and Frances (Vincent) Mancuso also predeceased her.

Calling hours were held at Jacobsen's Funeral Home in Huntington Station. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church, Greenlawn. Burial followed in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Huntington on Oct. 22.

Theodore C. Shults

OSSINING — Theodore Clyde Shults was born July 11, 1921, in Ossining, to Clyde and Ila May Shults (nee Lawrence). Ila May died giving birth to Ted, her only child. Ted was later raised by his stepmother, Mae Wiles Shults.

He married Gunhilde Johnson on April 24, 1948. They had two children, Nancy Shults Sommer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Robert T. Shults, deceased 1996. Ted is survived by his wife, Gunhilde; daughter Nancy; and four grandchildren, Kristin Gheen, Rachel Cool, Daniel Shults and Matthew Shults.

Mr. Shults served in the US Navy during World War II as an Aviation Machinist's Mate — 3rd Class.

Ted worked for many years as a purchasing agent and Vice President of the Champion Construction and Engineering Company based in Long Island City. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oneonta, where he served as local mission treasurer.

Ted enjoyed photography in his younger days and was an expert in the fields of camera collecting and model railroading. He was a 1939 graduate of the Ossining High School and attended Syracuse University prior to enlistment in the United States Navy, from which he was honorably discharged in 1946.

Ted passed away peacefully Nov. 19, 2003, in Colorado Springs, with his family gathered at his bedside.

Robert Dyckman

MORRIS — Robert Mead Dyckman, 80, of Morris died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at The Meadows in Middlefield.

He was born on April 6, 1923, in Oneonta the son of the late Robert Dyckman and Hazel (Mead) Dyckman.

Bobby was never married. He was known for his great love of his community of Morris.

He had assisted his parents in the operation of the Morris Inn for many years. He had been employed in more recent years as a grounds keeper at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

He had a great love of horses and would assist at horse shows at the Morris fair. He was a former member of the Moose Club of Oneonta.

He is survived by his cousins, Jeanne B. Cooke and husband Kenneth of Gillett, Pa., Dan and Jay Cooke and their children, Jessica and Peter Cooke, Aimee Comfort and her husband, Phil and their children, Ariel and Victoria. He is also survived by cousins, Nathan and Terri Cooke; and his very special friends, Warren and Harriet Ryther.

Bobby was predeceased by his parents and an aunt, Mildred Dixson.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at the Johnston Funeral Home from 1 until 2 p.m. at which time a memorial service will be held with the Rev. Daniel Lambertson of the Morris Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Owen P. Weaver

MERIDALE — Owen P. Weaver, 91, of Meridale, formerly of Delhi, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

The son of Ira E. and Goldie (Post) Weaver, he was born July 11, 1912, in Utica, and married Elaine Schindler, a union that lasted 50 years until her death in 1985.

"Shorty," as he was known by his friends, came to Delhi in 1941, where he was plant manager at the former Delwood Creamery in Fraser, retiring in 1967. He then moved to Lancaster, Calif., where he resided until 2000, when he moved to Meridale where he lived with his daughter.

Owen enjoyed golf, and playing cards, especially cribbage, and his family and friends will miss getting "skunked" by "Shorty." A longtime member of the Delhi Fire Department, and faithful 60-year member of Delhi Masonic Lodge, for the past three years he was active in the Meridale Community Church and Seniors.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Richard Aitken of Meridale; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Toni Weaver of Delhi; six grandchildren, Richard Aitken, Laurie Rutter, William Aitken and wife, Stephanie, James Aitken and fiancee, Jude, Matthew Weaver and David Weaver and wife, Carrie; four great-grandchildren, Curtis and Robyn Rutter, Kate Rose Weaver and Jake Aitken.

Friends are invited to call 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, when the family will be in attendance, with Masonic services held at 7:30 p.m.

A service to celebrate Owen's life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Meridale Community Church, with the Rev. John Osterhout, officiating. Burial will be later in Joshua Memorial Park, Lancaster, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Meridale Fire Dept. EMS, or the Masonic Brotherhood Fund, care of Delhi Lodge.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Kenneth J. Mead

DECATUR — Kenneth J. Mead Sr., 79, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at his home.

Kenneth was born May 20, 1924, in England, the son of Frederick and Ida Rose (Sutton) Mead.

Kenneth served honorably for the British Merchant Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic.

He married Felicia Figueira on Sept. 30, 1950, in England. He lived in Hoboken, N.J., for 32 years, where he was employed for Maxwell House. In 1985, he and his wife moved to Decatur.

Kenneth is survived by wife, Felicia T. Mead; his children, Angela and Ralph Norman, Anthony and Dee Mead, Ida and Larry Baker, Maria and Roy Sherman, Elizabeth Mead and Stephen Scott, and Kenneth Jr. and Stacy Mead; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey Bruins and Beryl Smith; also several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at the Second Baptist Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Pastor Judith A. Thistle officiating.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.
