Steve Weigl

HARPERSFIELD — Istvan (Steve) Weigl, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the Delaware County Countryside Care Center with his daughter by his side.

Steve was born in Hungary and came to the United States in 1958.

He worked for the Blenheim Power Project and the Town of Harpersfield for many years.

A true horseman, Steve trained racehorses and taught many to ride.

His wife, Shirley, and his father, Josef, predeceased him.

Steve is survived by his second wife, Jolan, who now resides in Hungary; his daughter, Theresa (Teri) Weigl of Oneonta; his son, Istvan (Steve) and daughter-in-law, Susan Weigl of Kentucky. His grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob and Thane; and his nieces, Marilyn Ballard and Carolyn Rapplyea will also miss him.

A memorial service will be held at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at 7 p.m. for all who wish to attend.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Linda and Darlene of Bassett Hospital and the Rehab Unit of the Countryside Care Center for their kindness and dedication to their profession.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the National Diabetes Association, 1508 Genesee St., Utica, NY 13502 or the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., Suite 1100, New York, NY 10016.

Dorothy Bostwick

MARYLAND — Dorothy M. Bostwick, 88, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at The Meadows.

She was born July 8, 1915, in Oneonta, the daughter of Orin and Maude (Weidner) Quick.

She married Ellery M. Bostwick on Dec. 8, 1936. He predeceased her on Aug. 4, 1983.

Dorothy was at one time employed at the Oneonta Dress Plant.

She was a member of the Cooperstown Junction Methodist Church; the Milford Senior Citizens Club; the Oneonta Moose Club and the Crumhorn Rod & Gun Club, and enjoyed traveling and shopping.

She is survived by her children, Robert Bostwick of Tempe, Ariz., Melvin Bostwick of Oneonta, Joan Currie of Schenevus, Charles Bostwick of Maryland, Ellery Bostwick of Milford, and Elaine Eager of Maryland; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Grosso and Esther Byam; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus, with the Rev. Peter Mudge, pastor of the Maryland Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will take place at the Cooperstown Junction Cemetery at a later date.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Dorothy to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Kenneth Hoagland

EDMESTON — Kenneth J. Hoagland, 61, of Edmeston died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 21, 1942, in Stamford, the son of Charles and Aletha (Brandow) Hoagland.

He married Ethel Minew on July 11, 1964.

Ken in his early years worked in construction, but he thrived being a farmer. He had at one time been a dairy farmer, but had changed over to beef; which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Ken loved his grandchildren. The most perfect day for Ken would be having the grandkids and everyone would be in the barn!

Ken is survived by his wife, Ethel; his children and their spouses, Scott Hoagland of Spokane, Wash., Lee and Belinda Hoagland of Burlington Flats, Tracey Hoagland and Dennis Grosfent Sr. of Edmeston, and Jason and Kasey Hoagland of New Berlin; his grandchildren, Destiny, Joshua, Reece, Trittany, Russell, Rachael, Autumn, Kevin, Matthew and Dalton; his mother, Aletha Van Valkenburgh; his brother, William and Linda Hoagland of Prattsville; his sister, Barbara Cooke and Randy Waterman of Windham; his aunts, Marion Hapek and Dorothy Brandow; and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was predeceased by his father, Charles, in 1978; and his grandson, Dawson, in 2002.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.

Interment will be in the spring at Edmeston Union Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Ken's memory to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Norman Macaskill

DAVENPORT CENTER — Norman A. Macaskill of Davenport Center died at his home on Dec. 19, 2003.

Norman was born April 15, 1936, in Dorcester, Mass.

He worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Mahwah, N.J., plant and was a master electrician working in the contracting business before moving to this area in 1987.

Norman was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Oneonta. He loved cooking, sports, especially football, talking with friends to help sort through problems, and repairing anything that needed fixing.

He was very reliable and will be missed greatly by his friends and adopted family.

He is survived by his adopted family of Edward Anderson of Davenport Center, Ruth Vance of West Oneonta, Penny McAdams of Afton, Ed Anderson and Donna Malakul of Oneonta, and Barbara Taylor of Deltona, Fla.

He was predeceased by a brother, Charles.

A memorial service honoring Norman's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake and the Rev. Norman Moran officiating.

Private interment will be later in Mt. Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Stanley Harrington

ONEONTA — Stanley D. Harrington, 56, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1947, in Schenectady, the son of Norman Anskar Harrington and Jennie Elizabeth Powers. Stan attended schools in Schenectady, Unadilla and Oneonta, graduating from the Oneonta City Schools.

He married Mary Jane Holden on June 1, 1969, in Oneonta.

Stan previously worked for Oneonta Oil and Fuel Company. He was employed for the last 18 years at Custom Electronics, where he was Maintenance Supervisor.

He enjoyed his years with Oneonta Boy Scout Troop 23, where he served as an Assistant Scout Master since 1984, and more recently as a Commissioner for Boy Scout Packs 24 and 91.

Stan served on the Oneonta Zoning Board and was recently elected as a member of the County Board of Representatives.

Stan is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, of Oneonta; his son and his wife, Scott and Kerri Harrington of Oneonta; his sister and her husband, Martina and Ronald Gage of Frankfort, Shelia and Wade Dingman of Mohawk, Dennis and Paula Harrington of Harpursville, and Michael of North Carolina; his brother-in-law, Donald Holden Sr. of Oneonta; his mother-in-law, Lois Holden of Oneonta; several nieces and nephews; Steven's special friend, Sandi Burrows; his scouting family; his family from Custom Electronics; and his friend and minister, the Rev. Jay Henderson.

He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Steven; and his aunts, Alice Lindsley and Ethel French.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Jay Henderson officiating.

A spring burial will take place in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Friends may call Saturday evening, Jan. 31, from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home at which time the family will be in attendance.

Contributions in Stan's Honor can be made to the Steven D. Harrington Scholarship Fund, care of West Oneonta Fire Department, PO Box 8, West Oneonta, NY 13861.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Kenneth McCracken

HOBART — Kenneth McCracken, 92, formerly of Hobart, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

He was born May 5, 1911, in the town of Kortright, Betty Brook Road, South Kortright.

He was married to the late Mabel (Marschilok) McCracken on Oct. 28, 1934. She predeceased him Oct. 9, 1981.

A lifelong area resident, Ken always loved the work he did on the farm and enjoyed sharing stories of that life's work.

He was an avid card player, spending many hours at his hobby. He was a member of the Church of Most Precious Blood of Jesus in South Kortright and Sacred Heart Church, Stamford.

A son, Charles E. McCracken, Stamford; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; a special friend, Rebecca (Becky) Gould at Robinson Terrace; and several nieces and nephews survive.

Graveside services will take place on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford, with Father Anthony Ligato officiating.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Activity Fund at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Wayne D. Burnett

BAINBRIDGE — The Rev. Wayne D. Burnett, 51, of Bainbridge, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, in Manhattan.

He was born Aug. 27, 1952, son of the late John "Jack" and Ruth M. (Buskirk) Burnett in Jersey City, N.J.

Wayne attended Afton Central School where he met Joan Cutting, his wife to be. After they were married, Wayne enrolled in Union College in Barbourville, Ky. He graduated in 1980 and entered Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, N.J., where he received his Master's Degree in Divinity in 1983.

Wayne and Joan moved to Morris, where Wayne was nominated as Fireman of Year in 1983. Wayne decided to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Chaplain from 1983 to 1993. Upon leaving the Navy, Wayne was hired by the Wyoming Conference to be the Pastor of the United Methodist Churches in Bainbridge, Afton and North Afton in 1994.

In 1998, he was forced to retire due to his declining health. He continued his civil duties through the Bainbridge Rotary Club as past president and past president of the General Clinton Canoe Regatta. He was also a member of the Bainbridge American Legion.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and woodworking. He was a "wannabe Normy." Wayne loved Bainbridge and the local area. This was evident by his dedication to service. He was a devoted family man. This was evident by the love he shared. He was a great man.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Joan Burnett, of Bainbridge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Heather and Andrew Thomas, of Oneonta; Erin and Daniel Ballard, of Verbank; four grandchildren, Jacob Daniel Ballard, Jack Douglas Ballard, Emily Drew Thomas and Owen Burnett Thomas; his brother, John A. Burnett, of Vixen, Tenn.; two sisters, Kathleen Burnett, of Bainbridge, Caroline Burnett, of Binghamton; step-mother, Patricia Burnett, of Feurabush; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Monday, Feb. 2, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 2l Main St., Sidney. The family will be in attendance from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church of Bainbridge at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 East Main St., Sidney, the Bainbridge Fire Department, the United Methodist Churches of Afton, Bainbridge and North Afton, and Prevent Child Abuse New York State, 134 South Swan St., Albany, NY 12210.

Arrangements are under the direction of C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St., Sidney.

Robert E. Crounse

OLD FORGE — Robert E. Crounse, 48, passed away to a better place, on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 2, 1955, in Albany, the son of Elmer S. Crounse Jr., and the late Noreen Fisher Crounse.

Robert graduated from Town of Webb schools and earned his Associate's Degree at Herkimer County Community College.

Mr. Crounse was a longtime owner of Old Forge NAPA Auto Parts. Bob was well liked and will be missed.

He is survived by his father, Elmer Crounse and friend, Joyce Roper; a brother, Mark V. Crounse; Bob's loving partner, Marjorie Crawford; uncles, Milton (Jack) Crounse II and wife, Manette, Robert L. Crounse and wife, Ginny, and Harry Mann and wife, Dorothy; nieces, nephews and cousins, including Milton (Jack) Crounse III; and two adorable Springer Spaniels.

Besides his mother, he was predeceased by a brother, Scott D. Crounse, on May 13, 2002.

It was Robert's request that there be no calling hours.

Services will be at the discretion of the family.
