John A. Spinelli
SIDNEY — John A. Spinelli, 85, of 53 Overlook Drive, Sidney, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, May 4, 2004, at his residence.
He was born April 7, 1919, in Sidney, the son of the late Joseph and Angelina Raffaele Spinelli.
John was a graduate of the Sidney High School Class of 1937.
On Dec. 31, 1942, he married Evelyn Covell in Sidney. She predeceased him on July 28, 1986.
From November 1940 to July of 1979, John was a toolmaker for the Amphenol Corporation, Sidney. He was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, a charter member of the Sidney Lodge No. 2175 B.P.O.E., a member of the Charles L. Jacobi Post No. 183 American Legion, Sidney and the I.A.M. & A.W. Local 1529 Sidney.
He is survived by his brother, Joseph Spinelli of Crystal River, Fla.; three nieces, Rosemary Bezosky of Tucson, Ariz., Elizabeth Spinelli of Diamond Point, and Jo-Ann Spinelli of Latham; daughter-in-law, Josephine of Hayward, Calif.; sister-in-law, Lorraine of Dunnellon, Fla.; two stepgrandchildren, Milton Styron and Elizabeth Leon. He is also survived by several cousins and great-nieces and -nephews.
A son, John A. "Jack" Spinelli predeceased his father in June of 1994, and a brother, Dominic Spinelli on Oct. 10, 1976.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2004, from the Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Friends are invited to call at their convenience Friday at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. His family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m.

Constance J. Snell
NORWICH — Connie J. Snell of Walt McNitt Road, Norwich, passed away unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Spring Township, Pa., on Sunday, May 2, 2004.
Connie and her husband, Donald, were participating in the 17th annual Ride for Life fund-raiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
She was born on May 13, 1965, in Utica, daughter of Tommy and Gail (Root) Van Brink. She graduated from Edmeston Central School Class of 1983.
She married Donald J. Snell in Waterville on July 26, 1986.
She was a past employee of Harding Nursing Home in Waterville and the Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. She was a transcriptionist for several Norwich area doctors and was currently employed at Hamilton Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
Connie is survived by her husband, Donald J. Snell; and a daughter, Amber of Norwich; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Powell and her husband, Michael, of Norwich, and Kelly Snell and fiance, Bob LeVeille, of Otego; her parents, Tom and Gail Van Brink of West Edmeston; one sister, Brenda L. Belden and her husband, Darren, of West Edmeston: her mother-in-law, Marjorie Snell of Norwich; her grandparents, Una Van Brink of New Berlin and Horace Root of West Edmeston; grandchildren, Sarah and Amanda Powell and Brittany and Brandon Homza and Jacob LeVeille; her aunt, Karen Root of New Berlin; and four special nieces and nephews, Erica, Amanda, Christopher and Bradley Belden. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Calling hours will be held at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, on Thursday, May 6 from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in West Edmeston on Friday, May 7, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Donald Buck officiating. Interment will follow at the West Edmeston Cemetery, State Highway 8, West Edmeston.

Alice H. Jenkins
SOUTH NEW BERLIN — Alice H. Jenkins, 83, of West Street, South New Berlin, passed away Tuesday evening, May 4, 2004, at her home.
A resident of South New Berlin since the age of 4, Alice was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Bainbridge. She was the daughter of Olaf and Marie Howard.
Alice was married to Kenneth E. Jenkins, who passed away several years ago.
Alice grew up in South New Berlin, where she attended the local school. Over the years, she worked as a switchboard operator in the South New Berlin area, in TACO in New Berlin, and in the Bendix Corp. in Sidney, from which she retired as an inspector after 26 years.
A "true blue homemaker," Alice will be remembered as a perfect mother. While her children were in school, she would always see that they had cookies or baked goods to share with their classmates. In addition, she always made sure that there were plenty of baked goods at home, as well as canned goods and homemade jam.
She was a longtime member of the Victory Rebekah Lodge No. 426 of South New Berlin and was also a 55-year member of the South New Berlin Fire Department Auxiliary. As a member of the auxiliary, she was always there to help with the dinners or any other fund-raising functions.
Alice is survived by her children, Anna Marie Neuland and her husband, William, of Cazenovia, David Jenkins and his wife, Barb, of Louisville, Ky., Paul Jenkins and his wife, Melanie, of Watertown, Harold D. Jenkins of Norwich, and Patricia Jenkins of South New Berlin; her grandchildren, Eric Burrell and wife, Leanne, Suzanne Jewett, Kevin Burrell, Chauntel Titus and husband, Mike, Tyrone Neuland and wife, Kristyn, Lori, Linda, Mark, Tim, Matthew, Carrie, Angela, Nola, Lorraine and Lindsey Jenkins, Lauren Camenga and husband, Dana, and Stephen Raitter. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Donna Jenkins of Wisconsin; and several brothers, nieces and nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Jenkins, her son, John Jenkins, and several sisters and brothers.
Funeral services for Alice will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with Kurt Funke, pastor of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin, officiating.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.

Clyda Belle Mace
GILBOA — Clyda Belle Mace, 77, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at her home in Mackey, town of Gilboa, Schoharie county.
She was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Broome Center, the daughter of Clive and Edith (DeLong) Bailey.
She married Stewart G. Mace on Oct. 25, 1947. She was a 1944 graduate of Gilboa-Conesville Central School as salutatorian and was voted best singer of her class.
She attended the Broome Center Chapel Church and was a member of the Chapel Guild; was a member of the Conesville United Methodist Church; and a former member of the Schoharie County Women's Republican Club.
She is survived by her husband; a sister, Maude Haskin of Broome Center; and three nieces, Loretta (Wilfred) Latta, Beatrice Mattice and Joyce Bailey, all of Gilboa. She will also be missed by her husband's brothers, Donald (Rose) Mace of Breakabeen, Victor (Bonnie) Mace of Gilboa, Robert (Nancy) Mace of Sprakers; and sister, Katharine Bedford of Stamford; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, George Bailey in 1972, and a grandnephew, very special to her, Larry Paul Mattice in 1974.
Clyda lived all her years within a couple miles of her birthplace, sharing her last 56 years with her husband on their farm in Mackey. She was a very special person who "walked to the beat of a different drummer." She loved nature, the mountains, her dog, poetry and writing. Family gatherings at their home at Christmastime were a tradition for years. She was a musical person who loved to sing and play country songs on her baby grand piano. She was the Chapel's organist for nearly 40 years.
Clyda will be remembered as the author of "Honey in the Horn," earlier called "Mackey Facts & Fancies," a weekly column in the Cobleskill Times Journal for many, many years. Her writings were heart-warming little tales of life in the hills the people who live there today and in years gone by.
Friends may call at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, May 7, 2004. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the Broome Center Chapel Church on Mace Road, with the Rev. Paul Buhrke officiating. Burial will follow in the Keyserkill Cemetery.
Lawrence A. Shaul
SCHUYLER LAKE — Lawrence A. Shaul "Hawkeye" (KC2AOP), 65, of State Highway No. 28, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, May 4, 2004, in his home. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on Sept. 27, 1938, in Schuyler Lake, son of the late Jay and Louise Clarke Shaul. A lifelong Schuyler Lake resident, he was educated in both Schuyler Lake and Richfield Springs schools.
In 1956, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served with the Military Police. He was honorably discharged in 1960, attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class.
For 23 years he worked as foreman for Mohawk Data Sciences in Herkimer, retiring in 1989. After his retirement he enrolled in Herkimer County Community College where he graduated in 1991.
Larry had a strong sense of community, a member of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department where he was currently serving as Fire Commissioner. A ham radio operator, he was a member of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, operating under the call letters KC2AOP. He was an avid NASCAR fan and at one time enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling.
Larry was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. He lived his life to the fullest and treasured the many friendships he had made along the way.
Surviving him are his close friend and companion, Sylvia Goyne of Frankfort; three sisters, Delores Cattelli and her husband, Reno, of Vallejo, Calif., Eleanor Evans of West Winfield, and Josephine Burt and her husband, Reinhardt, of Richfield Springs; a foster brother, Ronald Colburn of Louisiana; his extended family, the Bettis; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, a brother, Richard Shaul, who died in childhood, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 10 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Wallace Brown officiating. Mr. Shaul will be laid to rest with military honors in the family plot at Schuyler Lake Cemetery.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. Members of Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department as well as all other area fire departments are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. for ritualistic services.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department or the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Peg and Ed Stickles, Willie and Ellen Wightman, Craig and Curt Wightman, Monica Munford and the Catskill Area Hospice for all the care and compassion shown to Larry.
Martin C. Sposili
BENNINGTON, Vt. — Martin C. Sposili, 68, formerly of Oneonta and most recently a resident of the Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with his family at his side.
Born on Dec. 28, 1935, in New York City, Marty received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Cooper Union.
Living most of his life in Oneonta, Marty was employed by the Bendix Corporation in Sidney, where he held several management-level positions. Upon his retirement from Allied Signal, the company that acquired the Bendix Corporation, he became active with real estate sales and local politics within town government, serving as a councilman of the Town of Oneonta.
In his free time, he prided himself as an avid golfer, racquetball player, and bowler and never turned down an offer to play cards.
Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Claire E. Sposili, of Oneonta; his son, Michael (Michele) C. Sposili of Clifton Park; three brothers, Raymond Sposili of Easton, Pa., Robert Sposili of Hamburg, and William Sposili of Milford, Conn. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Lauren and Alison Sposili; brother-in-law, Norman (Phyllis) Gunther of Oneonta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marty was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Florence Sposili, and his sister, Virginia Ray.
Friends and relatives may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, NY 13820.
Interment will be private and at the later convenience of the family.

Elizabeth Dauchy
LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Elizabeth L. Dauchy, 88, of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away on March 5, 2004.
Elizabeth was born in Morris, on April 26, 1915. She was a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs and taught junior and senior high school. She taught at Conniston Junior High for 16 years; was a member of the Retired Educators of Palm Beach County, the State of Florida Retired Teachers Association and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Dauchy, and his wife, Lea, of Albany, Ga.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Lake Worth, with the Rev. William E. Hamilton officiating.
Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at All Saints Chapel Cemetery, Morris.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Saints Chapel, Morris.

Trevor R. Microni
OTEGO — Trevor Rocco Microni, infant son of Katrina and Greg Microni of Otego, passed away Monday, May 3, 2004, at Albany Medical Center, Albany.
He is survived by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Sharon and Stanley Backus of Unadilla; his paternal grandparents, Kathy and Frank Microni of Oneonta; his great-grandparents, Eunice DeForest of Unadilla, LaVerna Foree of Unadilla, and Vivian Miller of Oneonta; aunts and uncles, Frank Microni, Kim and Richard Platt, DeAnna and Ley Backus and Bret Backus; his cousins, Taylor Colone-Microni, Cole Platt, Caleb Backus, Syrrah Backus and Devin Backus.
A graveside service for the family was held on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Funeral arrangements were by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.
Johan P. Hansen
ROSEBOOM — Johan Peter Hansen, 69, otherwise known as Cosmo Polite, Alpha-Clerk Main Bookshop, Sarasota, Fla.; Chef/Owner Rogue School, Roseboom; who performed numerous marriages as a Minister of the Universal Life Church, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Bassett Hospital, Cobleskill.
He was born in Denmark 1934. In his life he was called translator, ballet dancer, mentor, world traveler, spiritual advisor, and peace activist.
Peter is survived by his wife, Claudia; and friends too numerous to mention.
Memorial service to be held in Roseboom later in the summer.
