Dorothy Whitbeck
SCHENEVUS — Dorothy Whitbeck, 95, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Worcester, the daughter of Peter Emery Clapper and Anna L. Kniskern. She was adopted by Leroy and Hattie Bilby.
Mrs. Whitbeck was at one time employed at the Oneonta Dress Factory as a seamstress. She was a member of the Schenevus VFW Post 2752 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William L. and Lois Whitney of Esperance; her daughter, Jane B. (Whitney) Beams of Schenevus; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary (Bilby) Cook of Richmondville; a son-in-law, Joseph Muehl of Oneonta; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by son Clark E. Whitney; daughter Martha G. Muehl; husbands, William Whitney and Watson Whitbeck; nine brothers and sisters; an adopted brother, Austin Bilby; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at the Schenevus Cemetery at a later date.

Stanley Carmody
TIPTON, Mo. — Stanley M. Carmody, 64, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, in Tipton, Mo.
He was born Jan. 7, 1941, in Richfield, a son of Jeremiah and Margaret Carmody.
Raised in the Bloomville area, Stanley attended South Kortright Central School. He lived in the Syracuse and Tipton area for 14 years after moving from Arizona. An Army veteran, he served with the 101st Airborne Division. He was an over-the-road trucker and loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors include a brother, David Carmody of Thompson, Pa.; three sisters, Rose Barkman of Mesa, Ariz., Leon A. Kane of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Mary Davidson of Leesburg, Fla.; his companion, Kay Larson, at home; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd and Jerry, and two sisters, Florence and Beatrice.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Mo.
Elizabeth Biedermann
MIDDLETOWN — Elizabeth Julia Biedermann, 85, of Middletown died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005.
She was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Middletown, the daughter of the late George W. and Cora D. Brown.
A member of the West Winfield High School class of 1938, she attended Oneonta State Teachers College and Utica School of Commerce. She also attended Traphagen School of Fashion. She was employed by Encyclopedia Brittanica in New York City.
Elizabeth married Robert G. Biedermann of New York City in 1950.
She was a resident of Levittown, L.I., for 54 years.
Elizabeth is survived by three loving daughters, Janice, Constance Conroy and Diane Carol, all of Long Island. She was the cherished grandmother of Lauren and Katharine.
She was predeceased by siblings Margaret, Harriett, Doris and Douglas.
Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton (near Utica).
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes, Levittown Chapel.
Einar A. Eklund
STAMFORD — Local farmer and businessman Einar A. Eklund, 85, of Stamford died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
He was born June 2, 1919, in Mount Vernon, the son of Algot and Axcia (Jakobson) Eklund.
He married Marion Hatfield in Tarrytown on Dec. 29, 1946. She passed away in August 1999.
Einar was a 1941 graduate with honors from Cornell University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He taught at Treadwell Central School. A member of the United States Navy Air Corps, he was trained as a pilot during his enlistment.
In 1943, he, his father and brothers established A. Eklund and Sons Farms in Stamford, which included the farming, cauliflower and sawmill businesses. Later they established Eklund Farm Machinery business, which along with farming was a strong interest of his.
He served as president of Stamford Bank from 1976 until 1987. Mr. Eklund was a member of the Stamford United Methodist Church and the Stamford Rotary.
Three children, Dorothy Anderson and her husband, Tobie, Slingerlands, Susan Pinkey and her husband, Charles, Worcester, and William Eklund and his wife, Diane, Stamford; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Scranton, Schoharie, survive him.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in Stamford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Charles and Hospice clergy Allison Bookhout officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
Burial will take place in the spring in Stamford Cemetery, Stamford.

Kevin Millar
ROXBURY — Kevin Millar, 84, of Roxbury died Feb. 25, 2005, at Bassett Hospital.
He was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Tyrone, Ireland, son of John and Catherine (Redmond) Millar. He arrived in the United States a year later and spent his early years in the Bronx.
He served in the Pacific with the United States Marine Corps, 1941-1945, seeing action in Bouganville and Guadalcanal.
Most of his life was spent in the food business. When living in Paramus, N.J., he was general manager at Hudson Wholesale Groceries of Lyndhurst, N.J. When moving to Roxbury in 1966, he purchased Roxbury Distributing Company, which he operated until retirement in 1982.
He was married to Jean Farrell in 1945 in the Bronx; she survives him.
He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lussen; and nephew, Brian Schwann; three sons, Kevin of Owego, Andrew of Trout Creek and Edmund of Roxbury; three daughters, Jean St. John of Washingtonville, Maureen of Mt. Tremper and Anne Rajs of New Paltz; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Peter, was killed in Vietnam in 1967.
A memorial Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Roxbury with the Very Rev. James J. McDevitt as celebrant.
Family and friends are invited to the Millar home after Mass.
Private committal service will be at the Roxbury cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Kevin Millar’s memory may be made to the Roxbury Library Association, Roxbury, NY 12474.

Cheryl Ann Gopel
SIDNEY CENTER — Cheryl Ann Gopel, 44, of Sidney Center passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
Cheryl was born in Goshen on Sept. 2, 1960, the daughter of Richard Lewis and Elizabeth (Shuster) Lewis, also of Goshen.
On May 18, 1980, Cherie married Martin A. Gopel; they have been happily married for 25 years.
Cherie is survived by two sons and their fiancees, Keith R. Gopel and Amy Winston, Middletown, and Brian Gopel and Renee Butts; and Cherie’s only grandchild, Hailly Alexcis Gopel of Masonville. She also leaves beloved family members, Eugene and Claudia Delemarter Jr., Jeanine Lofsted, Dori Myers, Germaine Lenza, Geraldine Myers, Kenneth Gopel, Vincent Gopel, Gretchen Walter and Eugene Delemarter III.
Cherie was employed by Hannaford Bros. Supermarket in Oneonta. She spoke affectionately for those she worked with and thought of them as extended family. She loved the community and considered it home.
Cherie lived life to the fullest and would want to be remembered as doing so.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, in the funeral chapel.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lucinda Henderson-Cooper
JEFFERSON — Mrs. Lucinda Henderson-Cooper, daughter of the late Mrs. Lillie Mae Henderson Glasgow and the late Mr. James Wexter, was born April 11, 1938, in Newberry County, S.C. She departed this earthly life and entered into the arms of Jesus Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
Lucinda was educated in Newberry County, S.C., and Gastonia, N.C. She received an associate’s degree in nursing from Otsego Area School of Practical Nurses in Milford. She was employed at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital for 33 years.
Those who celebrate her life and share loving memories include her husband, Hugh Cooper of Jefferson, whom she married Dec. 24, 1999, at the Melcomer Baptist Church in Yonkers; two sons, Michael Henderson of Boston, Mass., and Richard Henderson of Oneonta; sister, Ms. Nancy Faye Suber of Kinards, S.C.; brother, John Henry Glasgow and his wife, Lee Angles, of Clinton, S.C.; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Levine Conference Center in A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain, officiating.
Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
Margaret J. Losee
MASONVILLE — Margaret J. Losee, 64, of Masonville passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at the Countryside Care facility in Delhi.
She was born Feb. 8, 1941, daughter of the late Clell and Marian (Ross) Clark.
Margaret had a love for animals and enjoyed reading and listening to music. She was an unselfish person who went without to provide for her family.
Margaret was a 10-year resident of Countryside Care, and her family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to the staff for her exceptional care.
She is survived by her husband, Edward H. Losee, Masonville; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward and Diane Losee, Sidney, Gerald, David and Dale Losee, all of Masonville; three sisters, Louise Haile, Northville, Geri Lein, Merrick, and Jeanne Menneg, Massapequa; nieces and nephews.
She is also predeceased by her brother, Dale Clark.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 28, 2005, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney at a later time.

Henry Antonini
FLEISCHMANNS — Henry Antonini, 67, of Fleischmanns passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in Fleischmanns.
He was born June 11, 1937, in Italy.
Henry lived with his caregiver, Winston Bailey, for 12 years in Fleischmanns. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Arkville.
He is survived by Winston Bailey and many other special friends.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 28, 2005, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with Richard Zimmerman conducting the service.
Burial will be at a later date in Clovesville Cemetery, Fleischmanns.
Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
