Doris Wagar

Aug. 26, 1996
Doris E. Wagar, 75, of 300 S. Wayne Ave., Springdale Apartments, Waynesboro, Virginia, died early Monday morning at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Born May 27, 1921 in Fort Hunter, she was a daughter of Louis and Irene Hawkins Phillips. She was a homemaker and a member of the YMCA Happy Ducks and was of the Methodist Faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon A. Lotts of Fishersville; a brother, Louis Phillips Jr. of Mayfield; a sister, Shirley Phillips of Tribes Hill; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Francis A. Wagar, died in March of 1979.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Waynesboro Chapel of Etter-Reynolds Funeral Service conducted by the Rev. Jim Harris with burial following in Riverview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, P. O. Box 1427, Waynesboro, Va., 22980.

Irene Gurtshaw

Aug. 26, 1996
Irene E. Gurtshaw, 84, of Pickle Hill Road, Fort Plain, died Monday night at the Fulton County Infirmary after a short illness.

Born Aug. 13, 1912 in Cherry Valley, she was the daughter of Addison Smith and Elizabeth Cook. She was educated in the Fort Plain schools.

Mrs. Gurtshaw was employed at Life Savers in Canajoharie for 25 years, retiring in 1950. She also did private house cleaning.

She was a lifelong Fort Plain resident.

Mrs. Gurtshaw was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

She married Sherman Gurtshaw on Oct. 21, 1950. He died Aug. 4, 1992.

Survivors include one daughter, Jean A. Pickering of Fort Plain; and two grandchildren, Adam R. Gurtshaw and Daniel W. Pickering, both of Fort Plain and several nieces and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The Rev. Kenneth Dingman will officiate.

Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Gray Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service Inc., or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 36 Lydius St., Fort Plain.

Olga Cincotta

Aug. 25, 1996
Olga "Connie" Cincotta, 82, of Canoga Park, Calif., died Sunday.

Mrs. Cincotta was born in Amsterdam.

Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Aubrey, a brother, Michael Felczak, a grandson, Christopher Aubrey, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. A Vigil will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Praisewater Chapel, Canoga Park, Calif.

Arrangements are by the Pierce Bros. Praisewater Mortuary, Canoga Park, Calif.

Eleazer St. Louis

Aug. 26, 1996
Eleazer J. St. Louis Jr., 55, of Ridge Road, Galway, died Monday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, after being stricken at home.

Mr. St. Louis was born in Perth, the son of Eleazer St. Louis and Helen Begore. He lived in Galway for 30 years.

He operated the E. St. Louis Construction Company for many years.

Mr. St. Louis was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Broadalbin.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hitchcock St. Louis; two daughters, Debra K. Karper of Cobleskill and Penny J. Smith of Galway; three sons, Randy E. St. Louis of Galway, and Todd C. and Mark E. St. Louis, both of Middle Grove; three brothers, Robert St. Louis of Middle Granville, Charles St. Louis of Mayfield and Victor St. Louis of White Creek; four sisters, Veronica Rhodes of Mayfield, Pamela Peterson of Caroga Lake, Evelyn Friezel of Hagaman and Ann Hamilton of Bennington, Vt., and nine grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Hudson Drive.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home, Galway village.

George Kollar

Aug. 26, 1996
George Kollar, 76, of Johnstown, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.

Born in Peabody, Mass., Mr. Kollar moved to Johnstown in 1929 and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1938.

Mr. Kollar served as a gunnery instructor in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.

He was self-employed through Johnstown Litho for 50 years, retiring this year.

He was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Johnson Kollar, whom he married Oct. 30, 1945; three daughters, Ann Smith of Olathe, Kan., Linda Lee Shufelt of Broadalbin and Amy Rose Smith of Johnstown; five sons, George N. Kollar of Sammonsville, and James E., Nicholas G., Jeffrey D. and Daniel J. Kollar, all of Johnstown; a sister, Irene Bennett of Johnstown; and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in Fern Dale Cemetery.

Ruth Mosher

Aug. 28, 1996
Ruth P. Mosher, 91, of Mannys Corner Road, Amsterdam, died this morning at the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam.

Born Jan. 17, 1905 in Utica, she was the daughter of Herbert Bliss and Caroline Goodenow Philleo.

In 1922, she was a graduate of the first graduating class of Chadwick's High School, near Utica. She was also a graduate of Practical Bible Training School in Bible School Park, Johnson City, N.Y.

She moved to this area in 1927, settling on Mannys Corners Road in the Town of Amsterdam, where she had lived since.

Mrs. Mosher was a homemaker and a member of the Perth Bible Church.

She was predeceased by two sons, Roger Mosher who died in 1928 and Raymond Mosher who died in 1962.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Mosher, whom she married Nov. 24, 1927; a daughter, Elnora H. Peters, of Fort Hunter; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Perth Bible Church, County Route 107, Perth, with Pastor Robert Calhoun officiating.

Burial will take place in Hagaman Cemetery.

Calling hours are Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Perth Bible Church, or to GAVAC.

Joan Wert

August 28, 1996
Joan M. Wert, 44, of Route 334 Fonda, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.

Born Aug. 3, 1952 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Harold and Iona Snell Wert. She was educated in Fonda schools, and attended the Fonda Reformed Church. She was in food preparation and packaging for the Lexington Center and Liberty Enterprises.

Survivors include a brother, Harold Wert of Fonda; four sisters, Shirley Anderson and Stella Veeder, both of Fonda; JoAnn Wagner and Rosemary Goron, both of Gloversville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.

Calling hours are Friday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Fonda-Fultonville Volunteer Area Ambulance Corps.
