E. Jeanne Carpenter

HAMMONDSPORT - E. Jeanne Carpenter, age 85, of W. Waneta Lake, Rd. Hammondsport, died Friday June 2, 2006 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility, in Montour Falls.

There are no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday June 18, at the Weston Presbyterian Church, Weston, with Rev. Richard Schied officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport, at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Weston Presbyterian Church 510 County Rte 23, Dundee, 14837 or the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road North, Rochester, NY 146095896

Jeanne was born March 21, 1921 in Rochester, the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Frances Seybolt Wixson. She graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1937; and attended Genesseo State Teachers College for one year. On March 23, 1940 in Tyrone, she married the late Glen A. Carpenter, he passed away on August 30, 2005. Jeanne was a retired cafeteria worker employed by Hammondsport Central School for 10 years; and served as the Wayne Town Clerk for 26 years, having retired in 1984. She was an active member of the Weston Presbyterian Church, the former Wayne Home Bureau, a member of the Mustard Seed Organization through out the Wayne area, and the Pow-Wow Girls.

She is loved and will be missed by 2 sons, Robert G. "Bud" Carpenter, and James R. Carpenter both of Wayne; 3 daughters, Patricia J. (Thomas) Robinson, and Joyce M. (Al) Wahlig both of Hammondsport, and Lori L. (Tim) Barry of Greenwich; 2 brothers, Burton (Ruth) Wixson of Buffalo, and Edwin (Blanche "Skip") Wixson of Ocala, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews.

Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.

Thomas N. Huber

PERKINSVILLE - Thomas N. Huber, age 71, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at his home after a brief illness.

Tom was born May 14, 1935 in Perkinsville, the son of Herman and Cecelia (Rauber) Huber. He was a 1953 graduate of Wayland Central School. He married Virginia Wulforst on July 6, 1957 at St. Joseph Church in Wayland, she survives. He owned and operated the Huber family farm from 1953 until his death. He sold the dairy cows in 1987. He worked at Morris and Knudsen in Hornell, retiring in 1998. Tom was predeceased by an infant brother, Paul Huber.

Tom was a communicant member of the Sacred Heart Church of the Holy Family Catholic Community in Perkinsville. He was a life and active member of the Perkinsville Fire Department, serving for more than 53 years and he was a member of the Wayland American Legion Post.

Tom enjoyed participating in Antique Tractor Pulls all across Western New York, tailoring his Case or John Deere Tractors to these events with his wife Ginny or his good friend Carl Johantgen, hoping to bring home a ribbon. During the winter months, he could often be found fine tuning his tractors for the next pulling season. Tom was also an avid fisherman and hunter. In the early evening he could be found peering through the binoculars, anticipation building for the new hunting season. Watching sports on television was a favorite pastime. He and Gin are avid New York Mets baseball and Syracuse Orangemen basketball fans, but most of all Tom loved spending time with his loving wife, family, and friends.

Tom is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia (Ginny) Huber; his children, Paul T. Huber of Rushville, Theresa (Douglas) Landis of Coshocton, Thomas (Jacqueline) Huber of Perkinsville, Julie (John) Peck of Gorham, Michael R. Huber of Coshocton and Virginia (Scott) McNally of Bath; his grandchildren, Eric T. Landis of Springwater, Adam T. Landis of Coshocton, Kevin J. Geena M and Emma G. Huber all of Perkinsville, Matthew J and Melissa C. Peck both of Gorham, Alyson L. Huber of Coshocton, Nicholas A. Paige of Cohocton and leah M. McNally of Bath; his brothers, Norbert (Barbar) Huber of Perkinsville, and Richard (Suzanne) Huber of Wayland; his in-laws, John and Joanne Wulforst of Hornell, Lillian Eichelberger of Palm Coast, Florida and Lucille Wagner of Wayland; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. June 9 at the Walter E. Baird and Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Perkinsville.

Contributions may be made to the Perkinsville Fire Department, Perkinsville, NY 14529, Vincent House (Comfort Care Facility), PO Box 566, Wayland, NY 14572 or the Wayland Ambulance, 1418 E. Naples St., Wayland, NY 14572 in memory of Thomas N. Huber.

Phyllis M McDaniels

SYRACUSE - Phyllis M. McDaniels, formerly of Bath, and Loretto Nursing Home, Syracuse, entered into rest, Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at St. Josephs Hospital, Syracuse.

Phyllis was born January 22, 1922 in Nash, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Jessie and Blanche Hotchkin.

She was predeceased by her husband, Quentin R. McDaniels and son Larry MacDaniels.

Surviving are her son, Quentin; four daughters, Patricia, Nancy, Beverly, and Blanche; 24 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were observed, Monday June 5 from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath. Graveside services were held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport, at the conclusion of calling hours. Reverend Douglas Madden, officiated.

Harold F. Mills

LOCKPORT - Harold F. Mills, 74, passed away June 5, 2006 at his home.

He was born November 9, 1931 in Buffalo, of Canadian parents. He was brought up in Fort Erie, Ontario.

He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Philips Lightning in Bath, he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lockport, he was on the Church Visitation Team, he volunteered at Raymond Community Food Bank.

He is survived by his wife Elonda Grant Mills, his son Fred Mills of Grand Island, daughters Pamela (George) Nichols of Savona, Karen (Dennis) Smith of Campbell, step-sons Jeffery (Faith) Mills of Hornell, Jim Warner of Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Nell (Penny) of Chino Valley, Arkansas, Joel Grant of Spokane, Washington, step-daughter Nancy (James) Riegel of Mountainview, Virginia, and his sister Joyce (Elgin) of Wellandport, Oregon, 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Calling hours were observed Friday June 9, from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Bond-Davis Funeral home of Bath where his Funeral Service will took place on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Ray Kash officiating. His burial was held in Greenville Cemetery, Howard.

There will be a Memorial Service held at 11 a.m., Tuesday June 13, at the First Baptist Church of Lockport, with the Reverend Ray Kush officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Family Life Ministry in Kanona, NY, or the First Baptist Church, Lockport, NY, Mission.

Blanche A. Tobias

BATH - Blanche A. Tobias, age 69, of Casey Lane, Bath, died Monday, June 5, 2006 at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, Bath.

She was born September 18, 1936 in Bath, the daughter of Arthur and Cora Nelson Buck. She had worked for Paula's Paper Clips in Bath.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Tobias of Bath; two sons, Charles (Debbie) Hoad Jr. of Bath, and Paul (Lisa) Hoad of Bath,; three

daughters, Donna (Roy) Lathrop of Bath, Laurie (Scott) Morris of Bath, and Paula (Jim) Dunn of Bath, 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one brother, George (Lucille) Buck of Wallace, and three sisters-inlaw, Joan Buck, Virginia Buck and Elsie Buck. She was predeceased by six brothers and one sister.

Friends called on Thursday June 8, from 1-2 p.m. at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend James Hall officiating. Burial was held in the Nondaga Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Blanche's name may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852 or a charity of ones choice.

Wesley G. Barkley

SAVONA - Wesley G. Barkley, 88, of Eagle Valley Rd, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira.

He was born December 28, 1917 in Tyrone, to Clarence and Hazel M.

Gilmore Barkley. Wesley was a former Master of the Savona Grange. He was a Dairy and Crop farmer all of his life.

Wesley is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucille VanHousen Barkley; two sons, Gordon Barkley of Savona, Albert (Gail) Barkley of Savona; one daughter, Suzanne (Frank) Curran of Hammondsport; five grandchildren, Jonathon Barkley, Elizabeth Barkley, Paul Barkley, Ashley Curran, (Grad of Cornell), and Francis Curran; one brother, James Barkley of Richmond, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Ella Barkley of Bath, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by one brother, Arthur Barkley.

A private funeral service was held at Seager Funeral Home, Main St, Savona, on Saturday June 10 at 2 p.m. Burial was held in Seamens Cemetery, Savona.

Ruth E. Strong

CAMPBELL - Ruth E. Strong, age 95, of Campbell died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth was born in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1910, to Simon and Grace (Smith) Heffner.

She was preceded in death by her husband Claude Merrick Sr. in 1959, and by Edward Strong in 1982.

Mrs. Strong was a member of the Campbell United Methodist Church, loved spending time with her family, sewing, and crocheting. Ruth was active in scouting, a member of the Merchantville Grange, United Methodist Women, and the Home Bureau.

She was preceded in death by two daughters; Adeliah Emerson and Evelyn Merrick; four brothers, Benjamin, Francis, Andrew, and Carl Heffner; and one sister Mildred Bliss.

She is survived by her five daughters, Betty Chapin of Tumwater, Washington, Mary Aumick of Addison, Frances (Robert) Clark of Campbell, Aletta (Joseph) Phillips of Richmond, Virginia, and Joan (Don) Evingham of Campbell; three sons, Claude (Gloria) Merrick of Chesterfield, Virginia, Duane (Kathleen) Merrick of Rathbone, and Donald (Bonnie) Strong of Wayland; one brother, Samuel (Mildred) Heffner of Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania; 42 grandchildren; 112 great grandchildren; 60 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and 58 foster children.

Friends called on Friday from 1-3 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning where funeral services were held on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial was held in Nelson Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Campbell United Methodist Church.

Roy Rogers

Bath - Roy Rogers, age 79, of Geneva Street, Bath died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at home. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. Roy was retired from the Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, June 15 at the Bath National Cemetery.

DAROLD ('D.H.') RUMSEY

Darold Rumsey, 91, of Bath died peacefully June 10, 2006.

Born April 10, 1915 in Westfield Pennsylvania to Harvey and Helen Rumsey, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elvira "Peg" Anderson Rumsey, daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Gary Gleason of Wellsboro Pennsylvania, grandchildren, David R. Gleason of New York, Sarah G. Taylor (Jeremy) of Rochester, and Kristina K. Gleason of Burlington Vermont. and two great grandchildren, Kate and Leo Taylor. A daughter, Karyl Joy, preceded him in death as did sister Mittie Simmons. A brother George Rumsey survives him as do loving caregiver Tracy Faucett and steadfast supporter Ray Sorber. Mr. Rumsey was self-employed as a dairy farmer, cattle dealer, and auctioneer for 70 years. Hobbies include his family, ballroom dancing, and presenting Percheron pony teams in regional shows and parades throughout New York and Pennsylvania. He was a member of cattlemen and auctioneers' associations as well as numerous pony clubs. Services to be held at St James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport Saturday, June 24, 3 p.m. with reception to follow when the family will greet guests. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Sandra Curtis and The Rev. Gregory Hinton. Private interment at a later date. Memorials to St John's Episcopal Church, Westfield PA, St James' Episcopal Church, Hammondsport, or the Humane Society, Bath NY.

Donald E. Weeks

BATH - Donald E. Weeks, 82, of Fern St, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Ira Davenport Hospital, Bath.

Donald was born July 27, 1923 in Cornish, Maine to Ernest and Augusta Walker Weeks. He was the former owner/operator of Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet, Inc. in Arizona. Donald was a member of the Bath Country Club, Bath.

He is survived by his wife, Severina Haley Weeks; one son Brian Weeks of California; one daughter, Wendy Weeks of Arizona; one step son, Frederick (Diane) McAllister of Bath; one sister, Mary (William) Mongoven of Chipiley, Florida; one sister in-law, Margery Weeks of Maine; two grandchildren, Jared and Megan McAllister, and several nieces and nephews.

Donald was predeceased by his first wife and one brother Ernest E. Weeks.

At the request of Donald there will be no services. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements handled by Seager-Jones Funeral Home, Bath. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald's name to Parsonsfield Seminary, PO Box 163, Parsonsfield, ME 04047.
