Mr. Sam R. Bordinaro

Batavia – Mr. Sam R. Bordinaro, age 84, of Batavia, chief cook at the Batavia VA Medical Center who retired in 1982, died Friday, August 6, 2004, at home while under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mr. Bordinaro was born May 30, 1920 in Oakfield, a son of the late Lawrence and Josephine Ficarella Bordinaro.

A graduate of Oakfield High School, Mr. Bordinaro was a member of St. Anthony´s Church in Batavia. He played semi-pro football for the Batavia Esso´s and worked at Doehler-Jarvis in Batavia for 20 years prior to working at the Batavia Va. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

His wife, Pauline Crimando Bordinaro, died May 15, 1981.

Mr. Bordinaro is survived by his son, Samuel Bordinaro, Jr. of Angelica; his daughter, Josie (Gary) VanValkenburg of Batavia, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was a brother of the late Bessie Ballister, Florence Bordinaro, Lena Guimmo, Joe Bordinaro, Charlie Bordinaro and Frank Bordonaro.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church followed by entombment in St. Joseph's Mausoleum. Mrs. Ferne Louise Vanderhoof

Albion - Mrs. Ferne Louise Vanderhoof, age 96, of Elba, a secretary at the Orleans Board Of Co-Op Services in Medina for 16 years, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at the Orleans County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Vanderhoof was born August 16, 1907 in Holley, a daughter of the late George and Clara Gaylord Wilson.

Mrs. Vanderhoof was an elder of the Elba and Holley Presbyterian Churches and the Rochester Presbytery. Following her retirement, she was active with the A.R.C. of Genesee County serving as their treasurer. She enjoyed golf and was a pianist.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Clifford Wyant in 1944 and Hugh Vanderhoof in 2000.

Surviving are her children, Nancy Teufel of Newark, Mary (Arnold) Cardillo of Hilton, E. Wilson (Barbara) Wyant of Salem, Oregon, Jean (Harland) Gleason of Dallas, Texas and Joan (Albert) Buell of Albion; three step-children, William (Joan) Vanderhoof of Churchville, Marcia (Howard) Richland of Florida and Jane (Arthur) Leblanc of Rochester, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was the sister of the late Madline Wilklow of Hempstead, Long Island.

Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Holley. Memorials may be made to A.R.C. of Genesee County, 64 Walnut Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

Helen R. Krantz

BATAVIA - Helen R. Krantz, age 95, a lifelong resident of Batavia, who retired in 1975 from the C.L. Carr Co., died Thursday July 15, 2004 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Krantz was born March 12, 1909 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Goodson Becker.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, St. Joseph Sodality, St. Jerome Hospital Guild, Batavia Business and Professional Women's Association and a volunteer for many years at the St. Jerome Hospital Gift Shop.

Mrs. Krantz was the mother of the late Richard S. Krantz who died in 1973 and sister of the late Catherine, George and Richard Becker, Adelia Lachnicht, Mary Post and Elizabeth Radely.

Nieces and nephews survive.

There are no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 303 E. Main St., Batavia, N.Y. 14020. Arrangements were completed by the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, Batavia.

Mrs. Elinor G. Wood

Batavia - Mrs. Elinor G. Wood, age 85, of LeRoy, formerly of Batavia, former co-owner at Forest Lawn Farm, in Batavia, died Sunday, November 16, 2003, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Wood was born August 11, 1918 in Dansville, a daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth Hasler Wood.

She was a member of Northgate Free Methodist Church, a former member of the Morganville United Church of Christ and the Batavia First Presbyterian Church; former member of the Stafford Fire Department´s Ladies Aux.; Batavia Twirlers and the Rebecca Lodge. She was an avid square dancer, homemaker and enjoyed playing cards.

Her husband, George H. Wood, died March 5, 1999.

Survivors include 6 children, Mary Ann (James) Hicks of Bergen, Warren (Sandy) Wood of Batavia, Betty Jane (Richard) Finley of Palmyra, Linda (Timothy) Landers of Byron, Karen (Jeffery) Klawer of Bergen, and Robert (Michelle) Wood of Batavia; 3 brothers, Ellis (Mary) Wood of Brockport, Charles (Lois) Wood of Mt. Morris, and Howard (Marlene) Wood of Prattsburgh, two sisters, Gertrude Rodwell of York and Barbara (John) Spamer of Brockport; 16 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren, 4 step great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is the grandmother of the late Gary William Wood who died June 13, 1972 and sister of the late Vernon Ellsworth Wood, Elizabeth Zimmerman, Katherine Baughn and Rita Iler.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2003 at Northgate Free Methodist Church. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Northgate Free Methodist Church, 350 Bank Street, Batavia, NY 14020 or Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021.

Mrs. Leilani F. Johnson

Bergen - Mrs. Leilani F. Johnson, age 64, of Bergen, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Johnson was born August 6, 1938 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Sam and Vera May Corfield Torquato.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of 46 years, Richard N. Johnson; two sons, Rick (Bonnie) Johnson and Mike (Pam) Johnson, both of Bergen; two daughters, Julie (Brad Richardson) Johnson of West Almond and Brenda (Tom) Schmitt of Bergen; a brother, Bruce (Beverly) Torquato of Pavilion; a sister, Arlene Carpenter of Rochester; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There are no prior calling hours. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. Burial will be in Riga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Byron Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 210, Byron, New York 14422.

Zoe M. Trifthauser

Batavia – Miss. Zoe M. Trifthauser, age 72, a retired registered nurse, died Monday, September 1, 2003, at home.

Miss Trifthauser was born April 25, 1931 in Batavia, NY, the daughter of the late Norton L. and Gwladys Morgan Trifthauser.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and the New York State Nurses Association.

Miss Trifthauser received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Buffalo and her Masters from UCLA. While in Buffalo she was the Nursing Instructor at both Sisters Hospital and D´Youville College and she was the Director of Nursing at Emergency Hospital. When she worked in Batavia she was the Director of Nursing at Genesee Memorial Hospital and the Director of Nurses at Batavia Nursing Home.

Survivors include a brother, Ted (Rita) Trifthauser of Batavia, NY; 2 nephews, Mark Trifthauser of Syracuse, NY and Michael (Melanie) Trifthauser of Angola, NY; 4 Great Nieces and Nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. (Please use Ross St. entrance during the Main St. construction) Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, September 5, 2003 at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica, NY. Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 405 E. Main St. Batavia, NY 14020 or the Charity of the donor´s choice.

Mrs. Velma M. Stanton

Batavia - Mrs. Velma M. Stanton, age 81, of Batavia, formerly of Byron, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Stanton was born September 5, 1922 in Clarendon, a daughter of the late Albert and Ethel Hahn Roggow.

A graduate of South Byron High School, Mrs. Stanton enjoyed bowling and bingo. She worked on the line at the former G.E. which was bought out by Black & Decker, and following her retirement went back to work at Comstock Foods in Bergen.

Her husband, Frank L. Stanton, died in 1993.

Surviving are four sons, Ronald (Ellen) Stanton of East Bethany, Donald (Rosanna) Stanton of Rock Hill, S.C., Glenn Stanton and Ray (Radah) Stanton, both of Elba; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Doris Woof and Charles Roggow.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia (please use Ross Street entrance). Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in North Byron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to South Byron Volunteer Fire Department, Route 237, South Byron, New York 14557.

Mrs. Lillian R. Oderkirk

Batavia - Mrs. Lillian R. Oderkirk, age 100, formerly of Stafford, a retired practical nurse, died Sunday, September 21, 2003, at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Oderkirk was born October 12, 1902 in Thurston, NY, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ella Everts Root. She was a member of the 1928 nursing class of Jackson Health Resort in Dansville, New York. Having practiced nursing in the area for many years she retired in 1971.

She was a member of the South Byron Methodist Church, Stafford Grange, Stafford Kitchen Conference and Genesee Memorial Hospital Group. She was also past president of the Genesee Baptist Women´s Association, past board member of the NYS American Baptist Women, past chairperson of the Genesee County Farm Bureau and was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and the League of Women Voters.

Her husband, the late Warren T. Oderkirk, died in 1967.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Morganville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the South Byron United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 135, South Byron, New York 14557. Arrangements were completed by the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia.

John C. Krueger

Batavia - Mr. John C. Krueger, age 78, a retired truck driver, died Monday, August 25, 2003, at home.

Mr. Krueger was born August 21, 1925 in Elba, the son of the late John and Huldah Bratt Krueger.

Mr. Krueger was a NASCAR fan and loved trucks. During his career as an over the road truck driver he made many friends and enjoyed the camaraderie at the truck stops. He last worked at Torrey Farms in Elba.

Survivors include 2 sons; Troy Krueger of Hoboken, NJ and Lance (Kathleen) Krueger of Lincoln, NEB.; his former wife, Beryl Krueger of Alexander, NY; 3 sisters, Betty Lander of Batavia, Virginia Temple of Batavia, and Bertha (Donald) Oliphant of Oregon, 3 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, August 29, 2003 at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Alexander, NY. Memorials may be made to Genesee Cancer Assistance, Inc., 16 Bank Street, Batavia, NY 14020.
