Robert C. Schaeffer

Pavilion - Mr. Robert C. Schaeffer, 96, of Pavilion, a farmer at Schaeffer Brothers Farm in Pavilion, NY, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at home.

Mr. Schaeffer was born January 14, 1912 in Buffalo, the son of the late Edward and Selma (Zapp) Schaeffer.

He formerly drove a school Bus for the Pavilion Central School District

He is survived by a cousin.

There are no prior calling hours. Services will be private. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Tonawanda.

Mr. Milton B. Norris

Batavia - Mr. Milton B. Norris, 97, a retired draftsman at Graham Manufacturing Co., died Monday, May 5, 2008 at the United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Norris was born March 8, 1911 in Batavia, the son of the late Glen and Inez Butler Norris.

A graduate of Batavia High School and Oswego State University and he was a former teacher at Akron Central School and an employee of Curtiss-Wright.

He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, the 20-30 Club of the Church, Holland Purchase Historical Society, Independent Association of Retired People and the AARP.

His wife, Dorothy M. (Tillotson) Norris died November 28, 2007.

Survivors include one daughter; Beverly (Neal) Totten of Rochester; a Granddaughter, Cheryl (Gary) Hazell of Hilton; a Grandson, Gerald (Kim Bender) Totten of Caledonia and a Great-grandson, Andrew Hazell of Hilton. He was the brother of the late Geraldine LaRussa.

Friends may call on Friday from 12 to 1 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be held 1:00 PM following the calling hours. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020 or the Holland Purchase Historical Society, 131 West Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

Joan Augusta Liles

Byron - Mrs. Joan Augusta Liles, 67, of Byron, NY, a Time Keeper at Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, NY, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

Mrs. Liles was born April 13, 1940 in Batavia, NY, the daughter of the late Floyd and Ethel (Boldt) Bater.

A graduate of Byron High School, she enjoyed her children, grandchildren, camping and travel to Maine with friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Dan) Kelley of Alexander, Patricia (Jeff) Jarosinski of Byron; three grandchildren, Christina (Shawn) Wilkins of Alabama, Kimberly Kelley of Alexander, Daniel Kelley of Alexander; a great-grandchild, Kayleigh Wilkins of Alabama; a brother, Gene (Mary-Louise) Bater of Brockport; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Bater of Byron; several nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Ronald Bater and Patricia Yachett.

Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to Byron Fire Department, PO Box 210, Byron, NY 14422.

Demetra "Dorothy" Harpalas

Batavia - Miss Demetra "Dorothy" Harpalas, 88, of Batavia, a fashion buyer for 35 years prior to her retirement, at the former Alexander's, in Batavia, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle, in Buffalo.

Miss Harpalas was born March 1, 1920 in Batavia, the daughter of the late James and Gianoula Chambers Harpalas.

She was a graduate of Batavia High School and Rochester Business Institute. She enjoyed traveling to several countries.

As a fashion buyer, she organized many fashion shows for various charities.

She is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Louis, Gus, Nicholas and Hercules Harpalas.

Friends may attend services at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Memorials may be made to Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 146 West Utica Street, Buffalo, New York 14222. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

Lucy E. Hachey

Batavia - Mrs. Lucy E. Hachey, 90, of Batavia, formerly of Warsaw and Connecticut and Maine, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Genesee County Nursing Home, in Batavia.

Mrs. Hachey was born September 28, 1917 in Wethersfield, NY, a daughter of the late Frank and Mae (Estabrooks) Woodworth.

She moved to Western New York from New Haven, CT where she was a member of St. Patrick's Church.

Her husband, Edmond “Eddie” Hachey died in 1980.

Survivors include a brother, Harry (Pearl) Woodworth of Gainesville a sister, Vivian Lee of Warsaw, and several nieces and nephews.

She was a sister of the late Croy Woodworth, Albert Woodworth, Lemley Woodworth and Ella Irwin.

Friends may attend services at 11 a.m., Thursday at Glenwood Cemetery, St. Helena Street, Perry.

Alice Clara Grice

Batavia - Mrs. Alice Clara Grice, 99, of Batavia, who worked at P.W. Minor Shoe Factory and also various housekeeping jobs, died Sunday, (April 20, 2008) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

Mrs. Grice was born June 18, 1908 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late William and Ida (Frister) Gund.

She moved to Batavia in 1929 and was also a member of St. Joseph's Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Spiotta of Batavia and Dolores (Joseph) Ognibene of Byron; grandchildren, Michael (Frances) Spiotta, Nicholas J. Spiotta, Julie (Mark) Harasimowicz, Francesca Spiotta, Stephen J. (Melissa) Ognibene, Joni (Thomas) Yaskulski, Roasanne (Mark) Bertolani, Michael J. (Bonnie) Ognibene, Maria (Scott) Soeffing; great-grandchildren, Patrick (Melanie) Spiotta, Adam (Erica) Spiotta, Kelly Spiotta, Michael and Jason Harasimowicz, Sara, Joseph S., Matthew, Stephen Ryan Ognibene, Melanie (Daniel) Deemer, Michael T. Yaskulski, Mark and Anthony Bertolani, Samantha (Ryan) MacDonald, Jennifer, Kristine and Mariah Jeanne Ognibene, Philip, Vincent and Angelina Amo, Dylan and Jesse Soeffing; a great-great-grandchild, Ryan Martin MacDonald Jr.; sisters-in-law, Beverly and Naomi Grice and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Richard H. Grice died in 1969. She is also predeceased by brothers, Harold, George and William Gund; a sister, Barbara Gund; brothers-in-law, Robert and Donald Grice; grandchildren, Joseph Ognibene II and Carolyn Ognibene and great-grandchildren, Timothy and Stephanie Ognibene.

Calling hours are tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Prayers will be held at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Site, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to LeRoy Village Green Sunshine Fund, c/o LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home, 10 Munson Street, LeRoy, New York 14482.

John R. "Bob" Fowler

Batavia - Mr. John R. “Bob” Fowler, age 60, of Batavia, retiree from Eastman Kodak Model Shop died suddenly Saturday, April 19, 2008.

Bob was born October 5, 1947 in Regansburg, Germany.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie L. Davis Fowler; two sons, Teal (Ursula) Fowler of Iserlohn, Germany and Brian (Jacquelyn) Fowler of Batavia; four wonderful grandchildren, Dominik, Cooper, Ashley and Gavin Fowler; his mother, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Barsuk and the late Jerry J. Fowler. Also survived by brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. His Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Rivers, 1101 14th Street NW, Suite 1400, Washington D.C. 20005 or at www.americanrivers.org.

Jon David Dugan

Batavia - Mr. Jon David Dugan, age 63, of Batavia, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Crossroads House in Batavia.

Mr. Dugan was born August 25, 1944 in Batavia, a son of the late Edwin Dugan and Emily Dool Dugan of Batavia.

An employee of United Memorial Medical Center, Mr. Dugan was a member of St. Anthony's Church and St. Nicholas Club.

Surviving along with his mother are his wife, Maryanne Marchese Dugan whom he married August 22, 1964; two sons, Michael Dugan of Batavia and David (Annemarie) Dugan of Midland Park, New Jersey; a daughter, Michelle (Wayne) Hill of Batavia; five grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey and Lindsey Hill, and Matthew and Amanda Dugan; a sister-in-law, Michelle Dugan of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey; a niece, Tracy Dugan and a nephew Christopher Dugan.

He was the brother of the late Gary Dugan who died in 2002.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. His Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Church, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, New York 14021.

Nikolay N. Chizh

Batavia - Mr. Nikolay N. Chizh, 89, of Batavia, died Tuesday, (April 15, 2008) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Chizh was born December 6, 1918 in Belarus, a son of the late Nikifor and Tatyana Chizh.

He was a member of Slavic Pentecostal Church of Rochester. Mr. Chizh was a Deacon at his church in Belarus. While he lived in Belarus, Mr. Chizh was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Mariya (Radukevich) Chizh, of Batavia; nine children, Stephan Chizh of Belarus, Fedor (Galina) Chizh of Batavia, Alexey (Tatyana) Chizh of Batavia, Victor (Tatyana) Chizh of Binghamton, Mihail (Elena) Chizh of Moldova, Grigoriy (Tatyana) Chizh of Corfu, Nina (Nikolay) Bondaruk of Iowa, Tatyana (Victor) Yefremenko of Batavia and Lyubov (Timothy) Leonou of Oregon; a brother and sister in Belarus, 53 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Tatyana Chizh.

There are no prior calling hours. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Slavic Pentecostal Church of Rochester, 4925 Ridge Road West, Spencerport. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at 2:30 also on Friday.
