Arthur B. Weldon
Byron - Mr. Arthur B. Weldon, age 91, of Byron, who owned and operated Reliable Refrigeration Service in Byron and was very active and drove up until his last day, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at United Memorial Medical Center.
Mr. Weldon was born March 2, 1915 in Byron, a son of the late Bernard and Lillian Williams Weldon.
He was a member of Byron Presbyterian Church, where he was a past trustee, deacon and elder. Mr. Weldon was also a member and past president of the Byron Kiwanis Club. He also was a Triad Member and belonged to the Senior Citizen Action Council. Mr. Weldon is a former superintendent of the North Byron Cemetery and a charter member of the Byron Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Erma Weldon, whom he married May 30, 1942, of Byron; four sisters-in-law, Irene (Charles) Hammerick, Constance (Donald) Gaines, Louise Callard all of Clarendon, Lois Maxon of Kendall ; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He is predeceased by a brother and several sisters.
There are no prior calling hours. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Byron Presbyterian Church, 6293 West Main, Byron. Burial will be in North Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Byron Presbyterian Church or Byron Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 5 Byron, New York 14422.
Edward Jay Walker
Batavia - Mr. Edward Jay Walker, age 77, of Batavia, who did mechanical work at Angelica’s in Batavia, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at United Memorial Medical Center.
Mr. Walker was born December 10, 1928 in Akron, the son of the late Clark Downey and Marjorie W. Aulbach Walker.
A veteran, he served with the Navy and was a member of the American Legion in Batavia.
Survivors include his children, Cheryl Walker, Kim Walker of Clarksville, Virginia, Loren Walker of East Pembroke, Lars Walker of Phoenix, Arizona and Connie (Peter) Balon of Attica; two sisters, Martha Berent of Cheektowaga and Lydia Berent of Amherst; six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is brother of the late Eleanor Berent and Betty Hawkes.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to donor´s choice.
Patricia A. Patric
Batavia - Mrs. Patricia A. Patric, age 77, of Batavia, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.
Mrs. Patric was born December 20, 1928 in Midway, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Almond L. and Loretta Eaton.
She was a member of American Legion in Bergen.
Her husband, Roger H. Patric, died July 11, 1979.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas L. Patric of Hudson, Florida, James R. Patric of Batavia and Robert M. (Charleen) Patric of Hudson, Florida; a daughter, Cindy A. (Thomas) Guentner of Byron; three sisters, Ruth Crittenden of Hornell, Alene (Bruce) Wilkins of Columbus, Ohio and Sally (Thomas) Edkins of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen, where services will be held at 2:00. Burial will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen. Memorials may be made to American Legion, P.O. Box 207, Bergen, New York 14416.
Richard N. Johnson Sr.
Bergen - Mr. Richard N. Johnson Sr., age 70, of Bergen, who owned and operated Dick Johnson Excavating in Bergen, died Saturday, April 29, 2006.
Mr. Johnson was born December 8, 1935 in Hamlin, a son of the late Norman and Mildred Kathleen McConnell Johnson.
His wife, Leilani F. Johnson, died in 2003.
Surviving are his four children, Rick (Bonnie) Johnson of Bergen, Julie Johnson of Bath, Mike (Pam) Johnson of Bergen and Brenda (Tom) Schmitt of Bergen; a brother, Dayton (Sally) Johnson of Lester; a sister, Margerite Rosatono of Rochester; five grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews
He is brother of the late Dallas Johnson.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake St., Bergen, where services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Riga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Lawrence Chaffee Huntzinger
Batavia - Mr. Lawrence Chaffee Huntzinger, age 81, a retired letter carrier for USPS, Batavia, NY, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at the New York State Veteran's Home. Mr. Huntzinger serviced the RFD route in Elba for many years.
Mr. Huntzinger was born March 15, 1925 in Buffalo, the son of the late Lawrence and Carolyn Chaffee Huntzinger.
After his retirement in 1980 he and his wife moved to Ocala. He played trombone and tuba and played in the “Barbeque Brothers Band” in Florida. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Batavia and Our Lady of the Springs Church in Ocala and the NARFE. They returned to Batavia in 2003.
A veteran, he served with the Army in WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Audrae Kelly Huntzinger, whom he married April 7, 1951; two daughters, Karen (Billy) Ellis and Patty (late Joe) Meyers both of Ocala and a son, John (Amy) Huntzinger of Batavia. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
There will be no prior calling hours. Services will be held in Ocala at a later date with burial in Good Shepard Gardens. Mrs. G. “Gail” Green-Ogden
Batavia - Mrs. G. “Gail” Green-Ogden, age 70, of Batavia, a registered nurse and nursing supervisor at United Memorial Medical Center prior to her retirement in 1996, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Crossroads House.
Mrs. Green-Ogden was born November 6, 1935 in Sellersville, PA, a daughter of the late George F. and Evelyn Simmons Hammerschmidt.
Gail was an honors student both at Souderton High School and the University of Pennsylvania where she received her Registered Nursing degree in 1953. She worked in various capacities in nursing but spent many of her years caring for her family. In recent years she was confronted with many health issues and the family expresses its gratitude to the caring volunteers and professionals who cared for Gail.
Survivors include her husband, William Ogden, whom she married in December, 1999; three children, Steven (Suzanne) Green of Cary, Ill; Sheri (Tony) Abdella of Elbert, Co and David Green of Orlando, FL; a sister, Janet (Ralph) Barndt of Harleysville, PA; a brother, George S. (Sandi) Hammerschmidt of Signal Hill, CA; Brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert & Dawn Ogden of Kent, NY, Martha & Howie Howe of Seneca Fall and Barbara & Jim Singley of Linden, TN; 5 stepchildren; 6 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend services at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Morganville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021.
Ursula H. Fix
Batavia - Mrs. Ursula H. Fix, age 95, of Batavia, a retired teacher at Batavia Public Schools, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.
Mrs. Fix was born May 1, 1911 in Riga, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Thornton Horgan.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Home Bureau, St. Jerome’s Hospital Guild and the Retired Teachers Associations. She volunteered at the gift shop at St. Jerome ’s Hospital, for the American Red Cross Blood drives and a Literacy volunteer at the Richmond Library.
Mrs. Fix was a graduate of Batavia High School and the Buffalo Normal School with a degree in education. She taught in the Batavia Public Schools for 32 years teaching at Pringle, Jackson, William, Brooklyn Schools and retiring from Robert Morris.
Survivors include her husband, Edward E. Fix whom she married in 1942; two sons, John E. (Corinne) Fix of Canastota and James J. (Christine) Fix of Batavia; 2 daughters, Marie J. (Randall) Smith of Massachusetts and Teresa (Joseph) Lawrence of Batavia. She has13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Fix was the sister of the late Loretta Stoll, Marguerite Horgan and John Thornton.
Many remember her for her open door policy as she welcomed family and friends with much enthusiasm. Her passions were raising her children and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. She cherished all her family and kept in close touch through phone calls, dinners, “Sunday doughnuts” and letters. Upon her retirement she took up painting landscapes and flowers and enjoyed Florida in her early retirement. She traveled often in her younger days and always had a story to tell.

Mr. Edward E. Fix
Batavia - Mr. Edward E. Fix, age 94, of Batavia, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.
Mr. Fix was born January 24, 1912 in Batavia, a son of the late Anthony J. and Frances Lester Fix.
He graduated from Batavia High School in 1931 and married the late Ursula Horgan Fix November 20, 1941 at St. Mary's Church in Batavia. Mr. Fix entered the Army in July 1943 and served in the Signal Corp Reserve in Europe during WW II serving in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was honorably discharged in September, 1945.
After the War, Edward worked for the Veterans Administration in Buffalo before accepting a position as a clerk for the US Post Office in Batavia. He worked for the US Post Office for 30 years until his retirement in 1974.
He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, an original member of St. Mary's Parish Council, Holy Name Society and Nocturnal Adoration and the St. Nicholas Club. He was a member of the Batavia YMCA in his younger days. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood drives.
He played golf at the Batavia Terry Hills and Stafford Country Clubs and was an avid fan of the Notre Dame High School and the Batavia High School Sports Teams which he followed his entire life. He was a past President and Treasurer of the Notre Dame Sports Booster Club and chaired many fundraising events including the Annual NDHS Sports Boosters Night and sold tickets at the door of various sporting events. He established the Fix Family Scholarship Fund at Notre Dame and was inducted as a Member of the NDHS Sports Booster's "Hall of Fame" during the 1990s, for his loyalty and support of the NDHS sports programs. He also followed his grandchildren's sporting activities, including baseball, football, soccer, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, cross country, indoor and outdoor track, softball and trap shooting, often attending their games until ill health overcame him, recently.
He was a devoted husband for 64 years, loving father and grandfather, who cherished his grand children and great grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. He enjoyed family gatherings, golf, talking sports, card games, cross word puzzles and puzzle boards.
His wife, Ursula Horgan Fix, died May 9, 2006.
Surviving are two sons, John E. (Corinne) Fix of Canastota and James J. (Christine) Fix of Batavia; two daughters, Marie J. (Randall) Smith of Marlborough, Ma. and Teresa F. (Joseph) Lawrence of Batavia; thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Anthony J. and Joseph J. Fix and Helen F. Feola.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, 18 Ellicott Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Wendell R. Fitzsimmons
East Bethany - Wendell R. Fitzsimmons, age 69, of Batavia, an equipment painter at C. P. Ward in Rochester, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Genesee County Nursing Home.
Mr. Fitzsimmons was born November 14, 1936 in Pavilion, a son of the late Raymond and Vivian Wright Fitzsimmons.
He was a member of the LeRoy Loyal Order of Moose Club, past president of the Genesee County Snowmobile Association, former member of the Tri-County Riders, drove stock cars at many tracks around Western New York and was an avid NASCAR fan. He had worked at various auto dealerships as a collision man in both Rochester and Batavia.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Flemming Fitzsimmons, whom he married November 28, 1963; a son, Alan ( Victoria ) Fitzsimmons of Byron, a stepson, James (Linda) Calkins of Wyoming, NY; a stepdaughter, Vicki (Joseph) Flint of Middletown, Ohio; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
