Clara Silvernail
LITTLE FALLS - Miss Clara Silvernail, 74, formerly of Consaul Road, Schenectady, died Sunday at Little Falls Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Richmondville.
Survivors include several cousins.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Spring burial will be in the Richmondville Cemetery.

Frank B. Santoro, 68, manager at CitiBank and an opera singer
SCOTIA - Frank B. Santoro, 68, of Glen Avenue, died Saturday at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. Santoro was a 1949 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. He lived most of his life in New York City before returning to Scotia in 1993.
He studied opera in Albany and New York City, subsequently performing in productions of the Loubet Opera Company at Carnegie Hall. He also performed in concert in the New York City area.
Early in his music career, Mr. Santoro performed in the Schenectady area. He was well-received at his debut in the early 1960s.
Mr. Santoro also attended several banking schools for CitiBank in New York City. For more than 25 years, he was personnel manager for CitiBank, retiring in 1991 as the result of illness.
While residing in New York City, he was a representative for CitiBank with the United Way for many years.
Mr. Santoro was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia.
Survivors include two sisters, Ms. Mary L. Santoro and Ms. Diana Lee Fontaine, both of Scotia.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Light's Funeral Home, 1428 State St., Schenectady, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, First Street, Scotia, where a liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Helen Flanagan O'Brien, hotelier in Saratoga Springs and a teacher
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Mrs. Helen Flanagan O'Brien, 88, formerly of the Embury Apartments, died Monday at the home of her son.
Born in Saratoga Springs, Mrs. O'Brien was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. She was a graduate of The College of St. Rose and Columbia University where she received a master's degree in mathematics and science.
She and her family owned several local hotels, including the Rip Van Dam Hotel and the Saratoga Inn on Broadway, the Clinton Hotel on Franklin Square and the Keystone Hotel in West Palm Beach, Fla. Mrs. O'Brien was a teacher in Mineville for several years and in the Saratoga Springs City School District for many years before retiring in 1973.
Mrs. O'Brien was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, the Saratoga Springs Retired Teachers Association and the Saratoga Springs Senior Citizens Center.
She was a member of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church.
Her husband, J. Robert O'Brien, died in 1970.
Survivors include her son, Joseph R. O'Brien of Saratoga Springs, and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.

Howard Kaufman, RPI teacher, researcher, author of textbook
CLIFTON PARK - Howard Kaufman, 58, of Cortes Court, died Sunday in Gloversville while cross-country skiing.
A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Mr. Kaufman was born in Saratoga Springs.
He received his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy.
In his earlier years, Mr. Kaufman worked at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory and General Electric's Research and Development Laboratory.
In 1969, he went to work for RPI, where he was a participant in its teaching and research programs.
Mr. Kaufman supervised 23 Ph.Ds. and numerous graduate students.
Also, he collaborated with engineers from GE, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and NASA.
In 1994, his textbook, "Direct Adaptive Control Algorithms," was published.
Mr. Kaufman was listed in the directory of Who's Who in Engineering.
He was a founding member of Congregation Beth Shalom.
Survivors include his wife, Eve Bruskin Kaufman; two sons, David M. Kaufman of New York City and Jeffrey S. Kaufman of Oak Park, Mich.; a daughter, Deborah L. Kaufman of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Eileen Kaufman of New York City; and his father, Samuel Kaufman of Saratoga Springs.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave., Albany.
Burial will follow in Beth Shalom Cemetery, Schermerhorn Street, Rotterdam.
The period of mourning will be observed at the Kaufman residence, 1 Cortes Court, Clifton Park, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings with a service at 8 p.m. on both nights.
Contributions may be made to charity.

William Healey of Watervliet; former fire chief, shop owner
WATERVLIET - Retired City Fire Chief William J.E. Healey, 79, of the Schuyler Heights Apartments, died Sunday at Our Lady of Mercy Life Care Center, Guilderland.
Mr. Healey was born in Troy and graduated from high school at the age of 16.
During World War II, he was a first lieutenant with the U.S. Army Air Corps 348th Bomb Squadron and navigated a number of heavy bombardment missions over Europe.
After his discharge from the military, Mr. Healey owned and operated Bill Healey's Card Shop on 16th Street, from 1946 to 1960.
In 1960, he was appointed to the City Fire Department and served seven years as battalion chief. In 1977, Mr. Healey was appointed to Chief, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1981.
He was a member and past president of the Tibbits Cadets, Troy; and a former member of Watervliet Elks Lodge 1500.
Survivors include four brothers, James F. Healey of Sarasota, Fla., Thomas K. Healey and Paul J. Healey, both of Watervliet, and Joseph P. Healey of Washington Township, N.J.; and a sister, Grace B. Yund of Albany.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Ave., followed at 9:30 at St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Aurelia G. Lasko
ROTTERDAM - Miss Aurelia G. Lasko, 95, of Helderberg Avenue, died Thursday at St. Clare's Hospital, Schenectady.
Born in Austria, Miss Lasko lived in the Schenectady area most of her life.
She was a graduate of Oneonta Normal School and subsequently earned a master's degree from Albany State College.
Miss Lasko was an elementary school teacher for Albany city schools for kindergarten and the first grade for 38 years, retiring in 1964.
She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
Survivors include three nieces, Beatrice Farrell of Rotterdam, Ethel Oros of Niskayuna and Carol Kirk of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and a nephew, Charles Lasko Jr. of La Belle, Fla.
Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., and at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Spring burial will be in the old St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charles D. Jicha
SCOTIA - Charles D. Jicha, 64, of North Ten Broeck St., died Monday at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Jicha was born in Antigo, Wis., and had resided in the area for the past 29 years.
He attended William and Mary College and graduated from Badger Business School in Green Bay, Wis.
Mr. Jicha was an accountant for the former Campbell Plastics in Rotterdam for 15 years.
He subsequently worked at Macy's furniture store until his retirement.
Mr. Jicha was a member of American Legion Post 1001 and a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Eileen Donovan Jicha; a son, David C. Jicha of Los Angeles; three daughters, Kathy Walsh of Glenville, Sandra Korthas of Milwaukee and Sharon MacNeil of Scotia; a brother, Kenneth G. Jicha of Antigo; and eight grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Church, First Street.
Burial, on Friday, will be in Park Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Arrangements are by the White Funeral Home.

Dennis R. Nielsen
SCHENECTADY - Dennis R. Nielsen, 56, of McClellan Street, died Monday at home after a short illness.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Nielsen lived in the Capital Region since 1951. He was a graduate of Schenectady County Community College.
Many years ago, he worked for the St. Regis Paper Co. in Scotia while he owned and operated Denny's Sub Shop in Ballston Spa. He later worked for the Guilderland School District bus department, retiring in 1988. He also operated Designer Cakes by Dennis for many years.
He was the president of the National Teachers Association Local Union for Bus Drivers at one time.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Kathryn Depo Nielsen; three sons, Thomas R. and Michael C. Nielsen, both of Schenectady, and Dennis W. Nielsen of Indiana; a daughter, Michelle L. Nielsen of Dix Hills; three brothers, William Nielsen of Ballston Spa, Donald Nielsen of Brooklyn and Roger Nielsen of Staten Island; a sister, Mary Battaglia of Ocala, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
The services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., and at 9 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Luke's Church.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Albany.
