Joseph V. Marano
TROY - Joseph V. Marano, 86, of Colonie, formerly of Troy, died Sunday at home.
Mr. Marano was born and educated in Troy.

He was a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal, retiring in 1980.

Previously, Mr. Marano worked at the Rensselaer Valve Co. in Cohoes.

He attended Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Latham; and was a former communicant of St. Anthony's Church.

Mr. Marano was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was the widower of Frances C. Callahan Marano.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia F. Piche of Latham; two sisters, Helen Rogers of Tennessee and Betty Hill of Colonie; a brother, Frank Marano Jr. of Troy; and two grandsons.

Services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, followed at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Entombment will take place in St. Mary's Mausoleum.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Margaret P. Balcomb
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Mrs. Margaret P. Balcomb, 87, formerly of Schenectady, died Friday at Suncoast Hospice Woodside after a short illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Mrs. Balcomb moved to St. Petersburg in 1983.

She was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and was a registered nurse.

Mrs. Balcomb was a member of the Riviera United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Theodore R. Balcomb, died in 1978.

Survivors include three sons, Theodore Balcomb of Needham, Mass., Richard Balcomb of New York City and John Balcomb of St. Petersburg; a brother, Edris Phillips of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Morris of Stuart, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.

Arrangements are by the Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home.

Marian Knowlton
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Mrs. Marian E. Knowlton, 89, of the Embury Apartments, died Sunday at home.
Born in Watertown, Mrs. Knowlton was a graduate of Watertown High School and was a 1932 graduate of Potsdam Normal School.

She lived in Sackets Harbor, Jefferson County, for 40 years before moving to Saratoga Springs in 1991.

Mrs. Knowlton was a teacher for 35 years at Sackets High School, and for most of those years she taught sixth grade.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Sackets Harbor and also attended the United Methodist Church in Saratoga Springs.

Mrs. Knowlton was a member of New York State Retired Teachers Association; the SUNY Potsdam Alumni Association; the American Association of Retired Persons; and the Embury Apartments Loyalty Circle.

Her husband, Edwin "Ted" Knowlton, whom she married June 29, 1941, died in 1988.

Survivors include a son, Jackson Knowlton of Saratoga Springs; a granddaughter and a grandson.

Spring burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown.

Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Arrangements are by Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home.

Marion Dirsie
AMSTERDAM - Mrs. Marion R. Dirsie, 82, of Route 147, Galway, died Sunday at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a long illness.
Mrs. Dirsie was born in Amsterdam. She was educated in the Amsterdam school system.

Mrs. Dirsie was employed as a sales clerk. She retired from the former Nichols department store.

Her husband, James Dirsie, whom she married on April 22, 1944, died in 1963.

Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Nardin of Wilton; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held this spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086.

Arrangements are by the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place.

Mary Gormley
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Mrs. Mary Bendon Gormley, 84, of Lake Avenue, died Sunday at Saratoga Hospital.
Born in Troy, Mrs. Gormley lived in New York City for many years and was a graduate of St. Jerome's Catholic Academy. She attended business college in New York City.

Mrs. Gormley was a secretary for a private law practice for many years before retiring.

She lived in Saratoga Springs since 1995.

Mrs. Gormley was the widow of Edward J. Gormley.

Survivors include a niece, Kathleen M. Gibney of Wainae, Hawaii; and a nephew, Richard J. Bendon of Saratoga Springs.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady's Chapel at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Ave.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Arrangements are by the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home.

Ruth A. Paquet
RICHMONDVILLE - Mrs. Ruth A. Paquet, 89, of River Street died Sunday after a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived on Long Island until relocating to Richmondville in 1974.

She worked as a clerk for Doubleday Publishers in Garden City before her retirement.

Mrs. Paquet was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Raymond J. Paquet, whom she married in 1936, died in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Donald F. Paquet of Richmondville and David Paquet of Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Residents Fund, Eden Park Health Care Center, 25 Parkway Drive, Cobleskill, NY 12043.

Arrangements are by the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, One Chapel St., Cobleskill.

Ruth Monlea
SCOTIA - Mrs. Ruth Good Monlea, 82, of Gifford Road, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital.
Mrs. Monlea was a lifelong area resident and attended Schenectady High School.

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady.

Survivors include her husband, Austin Monlea; a son, Ramon A. Monlea of Schenectady; a daughter, Judith Ann Gonzales of Brookfield, Conn.; a sister, Bernice Eldridge of Schenectady; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and at 9 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.

William H. Taylor
SCHENECTADY - William H. Taylor, 75, of Huron Court, died at home Friday after being stricken.
Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Schenectady in 1975 and worked as an equipment repairman at Schenectady County Community College from 1980 to 1995.

He earned an associate's degree in 1995 from SCCC.

Mr. Taylor worked as an Army supply sergeant during the Korean War and served in the National Guard for 25 years.

He was a volunteer at the Schenectady County Public Library.

His wife, Marilyn Clarkson Taylor, died in 1975.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Ann Taylor of Schenectady; a son, Gregory Taylor of Scotia; a brother, Robert Taylor of Houston; and three sisters, Joan Case of Melrose, and Dorothy Harris and Carol Ann Perritt, both of California.

Services will be private. There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be at a later date in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Arrangements are by the DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Ave.
