MARSELLA, GAETANO F. - Gaetano F. Marsella, Ret. Col. USAF, a former Mamaroneck resident who had been living in Houston, TX, died on August 11, 2001, at age 75. He was a full colonel in the United States Air Force where he served for 38 years, including the Korean War. Prior to that Col. Marsella served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He achieved the rank of Brigadier General in the Air National Guard, and later went on to work as a program analyst for NASA. Col. Marsella was the recipient of various service awards. He was a member of the G.I. Civic Association in Mamaroneck and a former member of the St. Vito's Parish Council. He was also a member of the Air Force Association, American Legion Post #490 and UNICO, an Italian Organization, both in Texas. survived by his loving wife Norma (nee Castagna). Cherished father of Guy F. Marsella of Texas, David Marsella of Georgia, and Jane Schumer of Mamaroneck. Loving brother of Anthony Marsella of Mamaroneck and Anna Notarangelo of Ballston Lake, NY. Devoted grandfather of four. He was predeceased by a brother, John Marsella, who was killed in action during World War II. MAZZELLA, MADELINE - Madeline Mazzella age 83 on August 10, 2001. A former longtime resident of Pelham Manor, NY and a resident of Pompano Beach, FL. Mrs. Mazzella was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ercito Mazzella. Loving mother of Italo Mazzella, Marie Cristo and her husband Ralph, and Anthony Mazzella & his wife Wilma. Caring sister of Lucy Baroni devoted grandmother of Tina Harnaga, Ralph Cristo, and Daniel Mazzella. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren. MINNICH, JOANNE ROOS - of Mahopac, passed away on August 9, 2001 after a long and courageous battle against cancer for which she was a medical pioneer, being the first woman to have and survive an autoheart transplant. Joanne, the daughter of Alfred J. and Elizabeth Cameron Roos, was the beloved wife of William Valentine Minnich and is survived by three devoted children Virginia; William and Kimberly and her mother, Elizabeth. Joanne graduated from SUNY Cortland and was an elementary school teacher before becoming a full time mother who devoted her every being to her children, husband and family. PUCCI, ROSE LUCCHESE - Rose Lucchese Pucci, 89 of Eastchester died on August 9, 2001. Beloved wife of Albert who was a New York Daily News staff Photographer and studio Manager. Dear sister of Teresa Douglass and Anthony "Tony" Lucchese and the late Carmella Lucchese Pace and Nicholas Lucchese. Rose was born on May 9, 1912 to Pasquale and Maria Strada Lucchese. She was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle. Rose taught business and language courses at Mount Vernon (Davis) High School from 1936 to 1968. RAUHOFER, MARY A. - Mary A. Rauhofer of Greenburgh, died at Westchester Medical Center, Vahalla, August 10, 2001 after a long illness. Mrs. Rauhofer was born November 9, 1928 in Port Chester to the late Giacomo and Paola Capuano. She was graduated from Good Counsel Academy in White Plains. She also attended Westchester Community College and was the first woman to graduate with an associates degree in the evening business program, for which she also won an award for being top in the class. She was employed for many years in local businesses in sales. She was married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Elmsford, where she lived until 1967. Her husband of 51 years, Franklin H. Rauhofer died two years ago. She is survived by a daughter, Laura Marie Sexton, son-in-law, James B., a grandson, Luke J. Sexton of Glasco, NY, and son Franklin R. Rauhofer of the home address; sisters Carmelia Bolin of Peekskill and Bianca Capuano of Hurley, NY; brother John Paul Capuano of Sleepy Hollow; nieces and nephews; and aunts and cousins of Salerno, Italy. ROBINSON (CRISPINELLI) GRACE, - Grace (Crispinelli) Robinson of Elmsford and White Plains, New York, good and loving wife of Frank, cherished daughter of Florence and Adam Crispinelli and beloved niece of Joan Crispinelli, Marion Rainaldi and Clara Rosner. Grace's untimely passing on August 9, 2001 has left her cousins and members of the Berglund, Crispinelli, Imperato, McGeary, Rainaldi, Robinson and Vetrano families with a profound sense of bereavement. During a teaching career which spanned over 25 years, 12 of which were spent as a member of the religious order of The Divine Compassion, Grace touched the lives of parents, students and colleagues of the Westchester educational community. Grace will be missed by all who knew her and who now share in the grief and pain of her loss. ROSS, HAZEL ELIZABETH MYERS - Hazel Ross (Granny), 93, of Bluefield, VA, died August 10, at her residence. Born February 11, 1908 she was the daughter of the late Claude Lee and Cora Craft Myers of Eckman, WV. Mrs. Ross was a graduate of Kimball High School and attended Bluefield State College. Mrs. Ross resided in Yonkers, NY, for over nine years. While there she was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was a member of the Gospel Chorus, Missionary Society, and was the first Women's Day Chairperson. Upon returning to Bluefield, VA, in 1969, Mrs. Ross resumed worship at her home church, Wingfield Baptist Church, Eckman, WV. She was member of the Sr. Chorus, the Missionary Society, and the Pastor's Aide Committee. In her later years, Mrs. Ross joined Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Bluefield, VA. She was an active member of the Pastor's Aide and Missionary Society. Mrs. Ross was also an active member of the Busy Bee Club and the United Methodist Women's Group. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marshall Ross, two daughters, Patricia Ross and Marion Kelley, one son, Alphonso Ross, grandson, Anthony Mack, and six brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her three sons, Harold Ross, of Austintown, OH, Sylvester Ross of Yonkers, NY, Howard Austin, Jr, of Wilson, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 13, 2001 from the Missionary Baptist Church of Bluefield, VA, with the Rev. F. Winton Polly officiating. SHEDLOCK, FRANK H. - Frank H. Shedlock of StonyPoint died August 8, 2001 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 81. Frank worked until his retirement in 1983 at Federal Paper in Piermont, New York. His wife of 52 years Rose, his son Frank and his wife Iris of Stony Point, his daughter Debbie and her husband Guy Moore of Thiells survive Frank. Grandchildren Craig, Danielle, and Scott. STAMATIOU, FRANCES - Frances Stamatiou (nee Athans) of Yonkers, died Friday, August 10, 2001, age 85. Born on February 29, 1916 to John and Mary Athans in Athens, Greece. She came to America at age 4. Mrs. Stamatiou was predeceased by her husband John who died in 1994. She was also predeceased by her first husband Anastasio K. Georgiou who died in 1966. Frances is survived by her two sons, Constantine Georgiou of Chappaqua and Paul Georgiou of New Jersey; her sister Stella Sozomenu of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday only from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. There will be no visiting hours on Monday. WEBER, EMMA S. A. - Emma Sarah Atwood Weber of Pleasantville, NY died peacefully at Bethel Nursing Home on August 10, 2001. She was 95. Mrs. Weber was born April 24, 1906 in West Chazy, NY to Wilber Abijah Atwood and Mary Elizabeth Pratt. She was one of twelve children. At the age of 16, she went to New York City to train as a nurse at City Hospital on Welfare Island, known now as Roosevelt Island. She received her nurse's cap in 1925. In 1930, she maried John James Weber who was a doctor at City Hospital at the time. Later, he practiced in Brooklyn and Emma was his nurse. After living in Brooklyn, they moved to the Richmond Hill section of Queens. When John died in 1967, Emma moved to Pleasantville. She was active with the Pleasantville Senior Center and the Home Bureau. Emma was exceptional at handwork. She received many praises for her needlepoint and crochet work. She was an exceptional and wonderful grandmother and her grandchildren will miss her very much. Mrs. Weber is survived by her four grandchildren: John Weber of Southbury, CT; James Weber of East Holden, ME; Dianna Kallergas of Olympia, WA; and Susan Kallergas of Huntington, MA. Emma is predeceased by her son Donald John Weber and her daugher Drena Mae Weber. Resting Tues. 5-7 pm at Beecher Funeral Home, Pleasantville, where funeral services will be held at 6 pm. WEISS, LEWIS F. - Lewis F. Weiss of Bedford, NY, age 74, died after a prolonged illness. Son of Nettie and Herman Weiss, Mr. Weiss grew up in Yonkers and graduated from Yonkers High School. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. Upon the death of his father, he became President of H. Weiss Company, formerly located in Yonkers. Under his leadership, the company grew to become one of the most respected food service equipment and supply companies in the New York Area. Mr. Weiss is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen Berlin Weiss; children Dr. Roberta Weiss, James Weiss and Elizabeth Weiss; grandchildren Dana, Emily, Hilary and Michael; sisters Marian Cantor and Suzanne Silver. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2001 at Riverside Memorial Chapels at 21 West Broad Street, Mt. Vernon, NY at 2 pm. WRIGHT, ANNE K. - Anne K. Wright passed away on August 9, 2001 at Summit Park, NY. She was born in Tuxedo, NY to Joseph and Julia (Chupak) Krinsky. Anne is survived by her dear daughter and son in law Vivian and Willam Baisley of Stony Point, NY and her loving grandchildren Billy and Jo Anne Baisley of Sparrowbush, NY, Martin and Lynette Baisley of Stony Point, and her dear great grandson Travis of Stony Point, NY, and was pre-deceased by her husband Bill in 1977, by her brothers, Steven, Michael, and John, and sisters, Judy and Mary. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point Senior Citizens, past member of the Nutrition Center, and Rockland Community College Seminar. In Ann's early years she worked as a cook in Tuxedo Park, before she retired in 1969. She also worked for the Statler Hotel, Detroit MI, and Fl., and also worked for Ida Sherman Pollach for 22 years in Suffern, NY. ALFF, EDYTHE - Edythe Alff passed away at Lawrence Hospital on Thursday August 9th at 7:11 AM. A severe stroke on June 17th was followed by a secondary stroke on July 17th, triggering a series of system failures which resulted in her death. Edythe Alff is probably best remembered as the backbone of the Westchester Gem & Mineral Society where she served as President, Secretary and Treasurer. Those who knew her will remember her as an outstanding friend and mentor. Edythe enjoyed a career as a science teacher in the Yonkers Public School system and as a bacteriologist for both the City of Yonkers and Westchester County at Grasslands. Additionally, she was a world traveler and adventurer. She is survived by her daughter Holly Benkert of Madison, Ct. and her son Robert of Yonkers. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 12th at the Greenburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale.

BENEDICT, THOMAS - Thomas Benedict, a resident of Montrose, died Friday at Hudson Valley Hospital. He was 75. He was a retired Custodian at the Croton School District. Mr. Benedict was also a forklift operator at Montrose Concrete for over 30 years. He also served in the US Army during World War II. His family said that he loved his dogs, and also traveling to Vermont. Survivors include 2 daughters, Sheila Mee and Karen Arrigo, both of Montrose, 3 grandsons and 1 great-grandson. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. The funeral service is Monday at 10:00 am at EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, where friends may call on Sunday from 7-9 pm. Burial is in Rose Hills Memorial Park.

CIANCIO, MARIA - Maria Ciancio, 74 of Norwalk formerly of Stamford on Thursday August 9, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital, due to cardiac arrest. Born in San Vincenzo La Costa, Province of Cosenza, Italy, May 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Letizia DeLio Giordano. Survivors include a daughter Luisa Janulet of Stamford, 4 sons Raphael Ciancio of Spring Hill, FL., Tarcisio Ciancio of Westchester, NY, Victor Ciancio of Stamford and Anthony Ciancio of Brookfield, CT, a sister Rita Chiappetta of Stamford, 8 grandchildren, Eric Janulet of Stamford, Paloma Cotone of Stamford, Jennifer and Michael Ciancio both of Spring Hill, FL., Stefan and Kathryn Ciancio both of Westchester, NY and Christina and Alyssa Ciancio both of Brookfield, CT. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her former husband Luigi Ciancio and a brother Pasquale Giordano. DEROSA, MILLIE - Millie DeRosa of Mount Vernon passed away on August 8, 2001. Millie was born November 29, 1899 to Michael and Louise Massella in Mount Vernon, New York. Millie was married to Ralph DeRosa. Millie is predeceased by her husband and her son staff sergeant Anthony DeRosa who was MIA during WWII. Millie is survived by herdaughter Carmella (Dolly). DORIA, DOROTHY - 73, of Seminole, Fla., died August 7, 2001 at home. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and later moved to Mamaroneck, NY. She was employed by the County Clerk at Westchester County. She was a Associate member of U.S.S. Intrepid Association of Former Crew Members. She is survived by her husband Frank J. Doria at Seminole, Fl.a, 3 sons; Thomas of Rye, NY, John of Suquamish, Wa., and William of Tuckhoe, NY; 2 daughters Barbara Sandberg and Nancy Murphy both of Seminole, Fla.; 2 sisters Madge Hanna of Dundin, Fla., and Elsie Gutierrez of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and 7 grandchildren. ALBERT, JON L. - of Upper Nyack, N.Y. lost his life in the terrorist attack at The World Trade Center, on September 11, 2001. He worked on the 96th floor of Tower 1 as Vice President of Information Technology for Marsh and McLennan. Jon was born in the Nyack Hospital on April 24th, 1955. He attended schools in Nyack until he and his family moved to Sydney, Australia, where he graduated from St. Ives High School . Upon returning home, he attended Albany University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1977. Jon was a board member of the Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League and the Director of the International League Division. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna, and his adoring sons, Stephen, 13 and David, 8, his loving and proud parents, Della and Edward Albert of Upper Nyack, his beloved sister, Susan L. Defillippo of South Nyack, and his beloved brother, James L. Albert of South Nyack. He is also survived by his nieces, Raygan Defillippo and Lesley E. Defillippo; along with Aunts and Uncles and many cousins. Jon was a warm, compassionate family man, who was also deeply committed to the community. His bright smile and intelligent wit was appreciated by all. His sense of justice and fair play was an inspiration to those around him. His family and friends will always treasure the time spent in his presence and will be in their hearts forever. ALBERT, MATTHEW - Matthew Albert, Jr., 55, formerly of Tappan, NY, where he lived for years, died October 17, 2001. He was born in New York City to Matthew Albert, Sr. and Loretta McKenna. He was a graduate of Albertus Magnus High School of Bardonia, NY and was an outstanding basketball player. He attended Iona College of Westchester, NY for three years until he was called to serve in the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by a sister Mrs. Ellen McEntegart of Saddle River, NJ, aunt Mrs. Ellen Stark of Spring Lake, NJ, nieces Jo Anne McCoy of Rumson, NJ and Ellen Milliken of Indianapolis, IN. ANDERSON, PETER A. - Peter A. Anderson P.E. of Stony Point passed away suddenly at home on the 16th of October. Mr. Anderson was born on December 18, 1928 in Manhattan, NY, but spent the majority of his free time at the family's home in the Village of Haverstraw or the Filor estate where his father was chauffeur. Mr. Anderson graduated from Haverstraw High School and Manhattan College with a degree in civil engineering. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict as a teacher of combat engineering in Fort Belvoir, VA. Upon his discharge, Mr. Anderson returned to Rockland County where he began a 30 year career utilizing his engineering degree. After working for local firms on the Tappan Zee Bridge and the burgeoning suburban subdivisions, Mr. Anderson joined the Rockland County Highway Department and earned his professional engineer's license. In 1968, Pete became the engineer for the Town of Stony Point, a position which he held until his retirement in 1995. In addition to his professional life, Mr. Anderson was the founding President of Division 1 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, a member of the Haverstraw Knights of Columbus and a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America. In his retirement, he enjoyed attending the movies, going to the gym, and traveling with his grandchildren. Mr. Anderson was predeceased by his former spouse, Jeannette Feeney, a brother James and his parents, Agnes and Peter Sr and a grandson Scott. He is survived by his twin Agnes Heubner, younger sister Bernadette Lawless, and six children: Nancy Anderson of Waukeshau, WI, Mary Anderson-Tonjes of Calicoon, NY, James Anderson of Pleasant Hill, CA, Stephen Anderson and his wife Kristine of Virginia Beach, VA, Jeannine Anderson-Aldridge of Garnerville, NY, and David Anderson of New City, NY. Also surviving are his five grandsons, James, Ben, Andrew, Luke and Timothy, and several nieces and nephews. Blackwell, 42, of Putnam Lake, NY, has been missing in the line of duty since September 11, 2001 after responding with his brother firefighters from FDNY Rescue 3 to the World Trade Center attacks. Mr. Blackwell was the husband of Jane Scott Blackwell, and beloved father of Alex (Alexandra) 15, Ryan, 13, and Samantha, 11. A highly decorated 20 year veteran of the Fire Department of New York. Mr. Blackwell received the Heroism and Community Service Medal in 1989, the Thomas Kennedy Medal in 1990, and the Medal of Valor in 1992. He was a member of the FEMA urban search and rescue team and taught heavy rescue skills to fire departments throughout the region and the country. Mr. Blackwell grew up in New Fairfield, CT and graduated from Immaculate High School. He was a veteran, having served with the US Air Force, and a 25 year member of New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Company A. He worked as a regional paramedic for Danbury Ambulance, for Vinteck and for Sloper Whalen of NY during his career. Mr. Blackwell was the son of L. Donald Blackwell of New Fairfield and Frances Allan of Danbury, and the son-in-law of John and Marilyn Scott of New Fairfield. He has two brothers, Michael of Hawaii, Steven of New York; a sister, Diane Mishico of New Fairfield, two brothers-in-law, John and Jim Scott and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service for Mr. Blackwell will be held on October 20, 2 pm, at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 West Street in Danbury. The family will have a memorial visitation to receive friends before the Memorial Service at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury, from 10 am to 1 pm. After the Memorial Service friends and family are invited to gather at the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Company A Community Room, 302 Ball Pond Road, New Fairfield. BROWN, KATHERINE - Katherine Brown a life long Hastings on Hudson resident died Tuesday October 16, 2001. Mrs. Brown was 94. She was born in Hastings on May 1, 1907 to Stephen and Susan Spemberger Rapoli. Mrs. Brown owned the yarn Shop in Hastings and later worked at the Andrus Retirement Home. Survivors include her son Wayne and his wife Maria of Hastings, her daughter in law Joan Brown of Bethel, VT, three grandchildren Sandra and Leslie Brown of Vermont and Steven Brown of Hastings along with six great grandchildren. Katherine was predeceased by her husband Joseph E. Brown, one son Robert J. Brown and her sister Irene Pardy. Funeral Service Friday 10:00AM Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. CAHN, WILLIAM M. JR. - William M. Cahn Jr., a resident of Purchase, NY died Tuesday October 16, 2001 at the age of 90. William's wife Margaret Millhauser Cahn, his son William M. Cahn III, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive. Two sons, Stephen M. and Peter A. Cahn, predeceased him. William was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, class of 1929, and also graduated Phi beta Kappa from Princeton University in 1933. He served as a Major in the 94th Infantry Division during World War II. Professionally, he worked as an Investment Banker.
