John F. Kelly

CLIFTON SPRINGS - John F. Kelly, 78, of Ashton Court, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at Geneva Living Center South in Geneva.
Friends called Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Doran Funeral Home in Seneca Falls. Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 11 at the funeral home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Seneca Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Richard Murphy. Burial will be in St. Columbkille cemetery in Seneca Falls.
If desired, contributions may be made to the Geneva General Hospital Dialysis Center, 196 North St., Geneva, 14456.
John was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Staten Island, the son of the late Michael and Cecilia Davis Kelly. He had served in the foreign field during World War II in the Army. He was a graduate of Seton Hall University with a bachelor of science degree in education. He was retired from Merchants Bank of New York in New York City, where he was a vice president. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Seneca Falls, where he was very active in many of its organizations and functions. He had been a member of St. Patrick's Church Choir and a former member of the Seneca Falls Kiwanis Club. He was very active with Seneca County Birthright. He as a member of the Floyd Gibbons Post 500 VFW in New York City.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Nicholson Kelly of Clifton Springs, whom he married in June 1957; two daughters, Jean Kelly of Virginia and Catherine (Kerry) Clendinning of Austin, Texas; one son, John "Jack" (Melissa) Kelly of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jane Kelly of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Edgar Frank Sweet

SHORTSVILLE - Edgar Frank Sweet, 68, of 25 Macedon Road in Canandaigua, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at F.F. Thompson Hospital.
Friends called Friday, Dec. 12 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 13 at the funeral home with the Rev. James Landon officiating. Burial will be in Melvin Hill cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Citizens Hose Co., P.O. Box 446, Shortsville, 14548 or Disabled American Veterans, 400 Forest Hill Ave., Canandaigua, 14424.
Mr. Sweet was born Jan. 12, 1935, in Clifton Springs, the son of Merton Sr. and Jennie Smith Sweet. He was an active member of the DAV and was a past DAV hospital service coordinator. Mr. Sweet had amassed 6, 662 volunteer hours at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Canandaigua. He was also a member of IOOB and a life member of the Citizens Hose Co. of the Shortsville Fire Department. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Turner Schrader American Legion Post 34. Mr. Sweet retired from Westplex.
He is survived by his children, Vernon (Tammy) Sweet of Shortsville, Frances Sweet of Canandaigua, Scott (Leisa) Sweet of Phelps and Eric (Gina Akey) Sweet of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Amber Sweet, Jessica Collins, Leslie Collins, Charlene Palmeri, Julieann Towsley, Scott Joseph Sweet and Nicole Akey; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Kniffin; sisters and brother, Anita (David) Tyau of Honolulu, Lois Cheney of Towanda, Pa.; Merton (Sheila) Sweet of Casa Grande, Ariz.; Janice (Frank) Touron of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and Karla (James) Taylor of Phelps; an uncle, Robert (Marion) Smith of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Richard A. Carr

NEWARK - Richard "Dixon" Carr, 72, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 at his home on Vienna Street.
Friends called Thursday, Dec. 18 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 19 at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Newark cemetery.
Memorials in his name may be made to the American Heart Association, 2113 Chili Ave., Rochester, 14624.
Mr. Carr was born April 18, 1931 in Clyde, a son of Joseph and Jean Benson Carr. In 1996, he retired from Kodak of Rochester. Previously, he had been a production manager with Kodak's Ultralife Battery in Newark. Dixon served with the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Arcadia Memorial VFW Post 2883 and the Newark Elks Lodge 1249.
A loving family man, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita; five sons, Patrick (Julie) of Clifton Springs, David (Lisa) of Marion, Richard (Christine) of Newark, Martin (Dale) of Palmyra and Joseph of Newark; seven grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Corey, Cursty, Shea, Holly and Jacob; 11 brothers and sisters, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Katherine (Pete) Pellicano.

Helen I. Decker

NEWARK - Helen Irene Decker, 83, of Pine Boulevard, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Family and friends called Thursday, Dec. 18 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home in Newark, where a funeral service followed calling hours with the Rev. William Mugnolo officiating. Burial followed in East Newark cemetery.

Mrs. Decker was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Lewisburg, Pa. the daughter of Harry and Anna Dunkle Renner. Mrs. Decker was a graduate of the Phelps High Schools. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and she loved animals.
She will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Russell Porter of Fairport; her grandson, Matthew Porter; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Dorothy Bartels.
She was predeceased by her husband, Willard Decker, in 1998; a brother, Elwood Renner; and two sisters, Ruth King and Edna VandenBussche.

Kitty T. Pedersen

GENEVA - Mrs. Kitty T. Pedersen, 96, formerly of Geneva, our loving mother, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at the DeMay Living Center.
Friends called on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home in Geneva. Funeral services followed Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Shirley Filiatreau, of the United Church of Phelps officiated. Burial will be in Whitney cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne and Seneca Counties.
Mrs. Pedersen was born in Hertshels, Denmark, the daughter of Marie and Edward Eskilsen. She was employed at Geneva General Hospital for several years. She was a 52-year member of the Geneva Danish Sisterhood.
She is survived by her three sons, Kenneth (Yvonne) Pedersen of Sarasota, Fla.; Niels (Francis) Pedersen of Waterloo and Walter (Jean) Pedersen of Phelps; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marenfie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter K. Pedersen; three brothers, Herman, Ivan and Augie Eskilsen; and two sisters, Elle and Adele Holger Viftof.

Dr. Donald W. Pulver Sr.

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Dr. Donald W. Pulver Sr., who served the Phelps area for 37 years, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends called Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 18 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Clifton Springs with the Rev. Thomas Gramley officiating. Burial will be private in Lakeview cemetery in Penn Yan.
It is suggested that contributions be made to the Phelps Historical Society, 66 Main St., Phelps 14532; St. John's Episcopal Church, 1 Teft Ave., Clifton Springs 14432; or the Rotary Club's Camp Onseyawa.
Dr. Pulver was born in 1912, the youngest son of Irwin and Anna Pulver. He graduated from Cornell Veterinary School in 1935. In 1939 he married Doris M. Doolittle and established his large and small animal veterinary practice in Phelps. He retired in 1976. Dr. Pulver was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Phelps Rotary Club and the Garoga-Sincerity F&AM; Lodge 200.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Robert I. (Joan) Pulver of Penfield, William E. (Patricia) Pulver of Irondequoit, Dr. Donald W. Jr. (Robin) Pulver of Pittsford and Carolyn A. (Brian) Burke of Webster; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Pulver, who died in 2001.

Elizabeth A. DeGroote

MANCHESTER - Elizabeth A. DeGroote, 71, loving wife and mother, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends called Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Halsted-Patrick Funeral Home in Manchester. A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Jan. 7 at St. Dominic Church in Shortsville.
The family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Shortsville Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 446, Shortsville, 14548 or the St. Dominic Church Memorial Fund.
Elizabeth was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Canandaigua, the daughter of Leon and Sophia Procko. She was valedictorian of Manchester High School Class of 1949. She worked at Silver Counselors Inc., Commercial Building of Newark and Sport Service Inc. at Finger Lakes Racetrack, retiring 10 years ago. She was a member of St. Dominic Church and a devoted fan of Syracuse University Basketball and the New York Yankees.
She is survived by her husband, Robert DeGroote; a daughter, Anne (Patrick Campbell) DelGatto of Manchester; three sons, Alan R. (Terri) DeGroote of Middlesex and David L. DeGroote and Matthew J. DeGroote, both of Manchester; one sister, Katherine Chorney of Elmira; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Procko of Florida; and three grandchildren, Caleb and Chelsea DeGroote of Middle sex and Anthony DelGatto of Manchester.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leon and Sophia Procko; four brothers, Michael, John. Peter and Joseph Procko; and one sister, Anna McMillin.

Mary K. Keane

NEWARK/CLIFTON SPRINGS - Mary K. Keane, 69, of Ashton Place, formerly of Edgett Street, Newark, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends called Friday, Jan. 2 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark. The Rev. Peter Clifford celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Juan. 3. Burial will be in Newark cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to St. Michael's Church, 401 S. Main St. Newark, 14513.
Mary was born May 15, 1934, in Newark, the daughter of John and Margaret LeFaivre Keane. For many years, she was a second-grade teacher in the Williamson Central School system, retiring in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Wileman of South Bristol, Maine; a niece, Laura (John Sr.) Alves; nephew, John (Erica) Wileman; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Michael Keane Wileman, Henry Birdsall Wileman, Leah Alves and John Alves Jr.

Gertrude LeGrett Beniamino

GENEVA - Mrs. Gertrude LeGrett Beniamino, 92, of 1905 Route 14 North, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.
Friends called Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 31 at the funeral home followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Catholic Church in Phelps with the Rev. Edward Dillon officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery.
It is suggested that Masses be offered in Mrs. Beniamino's memory.
Mrs. Beniamino was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Canandaigua, the daughter of Frank and Katherine LeGrett. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and was deeply loved by her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Santa (Loren) Crouse of Phelps; three sons, Samuel Jr. (Mary Ann) Beniamino of Phelps, Philip (Angela) Beniamino of Geneva and Richard (Roberta) Beniamino of Phelps; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Beniamino Sr., who died July 2, 1982; her brothers and sisters, Mary Rich, Angie LeGrett, Mike LeGrett, Gus LeGrett, Harry LeGrett, Dominick LeGrett, Tony LeGrett and Nick LeGrett; and a greet-granddaughter, Taylor Levandoski.

Kathleen A. Sweeny McCann

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Kathleen A. Sweeny McCann, 58, of 27 E. Main St., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at home.
Friends called Monday, Jan. 5 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services followed at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made in Kathleen's memory to Lollypop Farms, 99 Victor Rd., Fairport, 14450.
Kathleen was born March 16, 1945, the daughter of Lloyd Francis and Maguerita Sweeny. She was a volunteer emergency medical technician for Newark Ambulance Corps.
Kathleen enjoyed making crafts and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, John Carpenter of Clifton Springs; sister, Patricia Youngs of Newburgh; brothers, Terrence Sweeny of Germany and Dennis Sweeny of Holden, Mass.; very dear friends, Debbie Menzies and Lou Ann King; nieces, Kathleen MacRae of Montgomery, Kelly Youngs-Schmitt of Newburgh, Kristine Pelella of Tarpen Springs, Fla., Kimberly Yozzo Shearer of Clintondale and Janet Sweeny of Orlando, Fla.; nephew, Terrence Sweeny of Florida; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
