Butch was born Oct. 11, 1933, the son of Giovanni and Philomena Mary Ross Venticinque. Butch won a full academic and sports scholarship to Hobart College in Geneva. He also served in the Army as a cook. His love of cooking originated when he was young, and his mother and father owned a small restaurant in Manchester called Twentyfive's. After returning from the service, he worked at the restaurant until it was sold in 1964.
Butch became a bartender for DiPacific's in nearby Farmington, and later, for the former Downtowner Restaurant in Rochester, the Garlock House in Palmyra and before opening his own place, for the Hearth and Embers in Rochester. He and his wife, Carol, then a former nurse, renovated the former Shortsville RR Station and opened Butch 25's Depot Restaurant in March of 1978. Butch did all the cooking while Carol ran the dining room. When first opened, Butch and Carol were not sure if the restaurant would be as successful as it turned out to be.
Mr. Twentyfive's magnetic personality and his expert Italian-American cuisine attracted diners from Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse. The menu featured a blend of Italian dishes plus traditional steaks, chops and broiled seafood. Many of the bold hearty Italian dishes were made from family recipes. 25's Depot restaurant was not high class but Butch took great pride in the food he served. Butch retired seven years ago and sold the restaurant to his assistant chef, David Liberty, and bartender Robert Santella.
After retirement, Butch took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren, playing golf with friends, and traveling several times a year to Las Vegas with his wife, Carol.
Butch will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
