Eve Grace Ogden

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Eve Grace Ogden went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 2:40 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005. II Corinthians 5:8 states that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. This verse gives to those who know her and believe the Word of God to be true, peace and security knowing her suffering is over and she is where she longed to be. Often she was caring for or transporting others to the doctor when she did not feel well.
Eve was born April 25, 1930, in Bradford, to Grace and Herman Stratton. Her brothers predeceased her and her sister, Winnie Hilkert, lives in Seneca Falls. She lived most of her life in the Finger Lakes area. She met her husband, Jim, when they both worked at "Kordite" in Macedon. They were married at the Phelps Baptist Church on Church Street in Phelps on August 3, 1957. Her many photos attest to the wonderful life and fun times she spent on this earth. Her body succumbed to stomach cancer. We know her spirit has eternal life in Heaven because she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior when she was a teenager. Her fondest wish is for everyone who reads this to know Jesus and meet her in Heaven someday. Like most of us, she didn't feel worthy of a place in Heaven. For those who knew her there was never a doubt. Jesus paid the price and she accepted His gift and was a witness to others. She lived most of her life in the Finger Lakes area. She was a very active and lived life to its fullest. Her family called her "Roadrunner" because she was always on the go, helping out others. She loved helping people and had the ability to imagine what she would need if she were in the place of those she was helping, and do it to the best of her ability. She always did more than required because Jesus was her "supervisor, " and she wanted to please Him. She enjoyed doing crochet work and made infant sweaters for the Crisis Pregnancy Centers. She served as a Home Health Aide and has fond memories of being a Foster Grandparent at Roosevelt Preschool. She enjoyed working with the children, the friends she made there, and the Grandparent's trip to Washington, D.C., for the Christmas Tree Lighting cemetery. She had a soft spot for people and animals.
Her passing will create a great void in the lives of all who came in contact with her, especially her husband of 48 years, Jim Ogden; her children, Beverly Abbott (Harold Siearson), Richard D. Abbott (Debbie), Susan J. Corl (Stephen), Rebecca Wheeler (Gordon); 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Winnie Hilkert; and many nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.
We were blessed by her and thank God for her. She was truly a professional caregiver and felt out of place when others had to care for her. We were privileged to care for her the best we could and have learned that caring for others is what life is truly all about. We wish we could still care for her. She enriched our lives greatly. Please make a special effort to show those you care for how you feel about them, today and every day you can, now. Don't wait until they need you. During her illness, she realized how many people cared about her. Thank you to all who made an effort for her. No matter how small it may have seemed to you, it was precious to her. She mentioned each one with a sense of awe. We are only days away from Thanksgiving, where we as a nation praise and give thanks for the many blessings we have received. At least, that is what we are supposed to do. Nowadays it seems like Thanksgiving is just "in the way" between Halloween and Christmas. This year we will experience emotions of sadness and relief. We are sad because we no longer have Eve physically with us and relief that her suffering is over and she is experiencing eternal life in Heaven. Hopefully, all Thanksgivings to follow we will have a more focused sense of the real meaning of the Holiday because attached to it will be the memories of Eve and the selfless life style she demonstrated to us all.
She spent much of her time in prayer and Bible study and was especially appreciative to her church home, Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes, for their ministry to her at his time, especially the video tapes of the Sunday sermons so she wouldn't feel as though she was missing anything, and for all those who stopped by, phoned and sent cards. You put a bright spot in her day. She especially enjoyed Deb Wheeler's help. Deb donated her time and her heart to help out and we praise God for her faithfulness.
Friends and family called Wednesday, Nov. 23 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. The service immediately followed at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes.
To anyone who reads this we strongly suggest telling those you love how much they mean to you today and every day.
