Jeremy M. Burdick
SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Jeremy M. Burdick, 21, of South Kortright, died unexpectedly July 1, 1998, in the town of Stamford.

He was born Oct. 5, 1976, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, the son of Neil Burdick and Christine Olsen.

He was single.

He attended South Kortright Central School and was employed at Mountain View Farms in Roxbury.

He enjoyed sports, hunting, the outdoors, music and time with family and his special friend "Babe" Marcy Fancher and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Christine Olsen of South Kortright; his father, Neil Burdick of Bloomville; his brother and sister, Phillip and Jessica of South Kortright; his grandmothers, Lillian Olsen and Helen Burdick, both of Bloomville and his grandfather, Melvin Olsen and family in Florida; several aunts and uncles, Camie Olsen and Ted Latta of Grand Gorge, Connie and Keith McLean of Bloomville, Colleen Olsen of Stamford, Gail Hough of Binghamton, Laura and Jerry Murphy of Arizona, Mary Burdick of Olean, Wayne Burdick of Bloomville; several cousins, Artie Choate and Tyler Latta, Kaitlyn and Keith McLean, Matthew and Amber Olsen and Emily and Jennifer Hough.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, Oren Burdick.

Funeral service will be Saturday, July 4, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Bloomville Methodist Church with the Rev. Clinton Lunt officiating.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.

Calling hours will be Friday, July 3, from 7-9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Hobart Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart and Davenport.

Harold (Bill) W. Hutchinson
EDMESTON — Harold (Bill) W. Hutchinson, 77, of Edmeston died Monday, June 29, 1998, at his home with his bride of 55 years by his side.

He was born Nov. 5, 1920, the son of Harold W. and Grace (Jaeger) Hutchinson.

He married Jeannie Amy Tamminen Dec. 5, 1942, in Trenton, N.J.

Bill served in the Army Air Corps as a drill sergeant from 1942-46. He was self-employed as a mason-plasterer for many years and later retired from Trenton State College in Ewing, N.J.

Bill was a member of the Wharton Valley American Legion Post No. 1311 in Edmeston and was past chief of the Pennington Road Fire Co., Ewing, N.J.

He graced his family and friends with his sense of humor. Not only was he a wonderful storyteller, but he was also a good listener. Bill was a dear, sweet man, who was loved by all who met him, and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Amy; his children and their spouses, Harry and Nancy Hutchinson of Montclair, N.J., Jamy and Bob Haller of Langhorne, Pa., and Cindy and Mark Kocon of Ewing, N.J.; his two grandchildren, Kate and Matt Hutchinson; his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Joe Madden of Wrightstown, N.J.; his sister-in-law, June Tamminen of Blacksburg, Va., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catskill Area Hospice Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, or the Edmeston Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 111, Edmeston.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Charles Betz
HOBART — Charles Betz, 74, of Hobart, died July 2, 1998, at home.

He was born June 3, 1924, in Cobleskill, the son of David and Irene (Iisum) Betz.

He married Mary Peters on Sept. 25, 1954.

He was a member of the U.S. Army serving in China, Burma and India.

He was employed by the New York Telephone Co. for 40 years in the Cobleskill, Stamford and Cortland areas.

He was a 1942 graduate of Cobleskill.

He was a charter member of the Cobleskill VFW No. 5088, Telephone Pioneers, Capital District Basha of the China, Burma and India Veteran's (CBI.)

He is survived by his wife, Mary at home; children, Joanne, David, Jim and his wife, Lorraine; grandchildren, Liahna and Nathaniel; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Pat Betz of Schoharie; cousins, Geraldine Manchester of Cobleskill and Peter Betz of Fort Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Beacraft.

Funeral services will be held on July 6, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the Hobart Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart and Davenport.

Milford W. Rundle
EDMESTON — Milford W. Rundle, 77, of Edmeston died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born March 16, 1921, in  Jefferson, Wis. He married Elaine Morris in Laurens on July 23, 1940.

Milford was a member of the Fly Creek Valley Grange, Edmeston Fire Department, Burlington Flats Fish and Game Club and was past treasurer of the Easter Milk Producers Local Chapter.

He was a private man who operated his own dairy farm, but would also take the time to enjoy the great outdoors through hunting, fishing, woodworking, sawmilling and square-dancing.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine; his children and their spouses, M. Jerome and Jeannette Rundle of Norwich, Michael David and Karen Rundle of Edmeston and Doreen E. Aldrich of Otego; six grandchildren, four great-granddaughters and his niece, Effie Ainslie.

A funeral service will be held Friday, July 3, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston with the Rev. Marie King officiating.

Calling hours are from noon-2 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment is at Hartwick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Milford's memory to the Edmeston Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Ethelyn M. Sammons
SCHUYLER LAKE — Ethelyn M. Sammons, 82, formerly of Schuyler Lake passed away June 30, 1998.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at 1 p.m. at Schuyler Lake Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Fralick, of the Middlefield Baptist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Henry A. Ford
DELANCEY — A committal service for Henry A. Ford will be held at Hamden Cemetery, Hamden, on Saturday, July 11, 1998, at 11 a.m.

John D. Hill
ONEONTA — John D. Hill, 59, of Oneonta, died July 4, 1998, at M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown after a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 24, 1939 in Worcester, the son of Harold C. and Beatrice M. (Germond) Hill.

He married Joan Suttle on Dec. 30, 1967 in Oneonta.

Mr. Hill was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in Iceland from 1956-1958.

Mr. Hill was a distinguished employee of the D&H Railroad for over 30 years where he served as both carman and inspector in the Oneonta and Binghamton areas. He devoted his life to his work. He made many acquaintances and close friends who will miss him dearly.

He was a member of the International Transportation and Communication Union, the Sixth Ward Athletic Club, the Westford United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Moose Club.

He is survived by his wife at home; four sons and their friends, John C. Hill and Julie Baker of Oneonta, David W. Hill of Oneonta, Richard B. Hill and Karen Kuhn of Hartwick, Thomas J. Hill and Christina Legett of Oneonta and one daughter, Mrs. Lajos (Brenda L.) Rozsa of Oneonta; seven grandchildren, David, Natasha and Corey Hill, Ashley Kuhn and Justin Hill and Tyler James Hill and Andrew Baker; six brothers, Robert E. of Westford, Donald W. of Page, Ariz., Richard B. of Schenectady, Eugene A. of Astover, Miss., James L. of West Oneonta and Stephen G. Hill of Otego; one sister, Linda Fitzpatrick of Davenport and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Harold Hill and a nephew, James Hill.

Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at the Sixth Ward Athletic Club Social Hall at 22 W. Broadway in Oneonta with the Rev. Judith Thistle, Fox Hospital chaplain, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Those who wish may make contributions to the Sixth Ward Athletic Club, 22 West Broadway, Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Dorothy Slawson Kolb
NORWICH — Mrs. Dorothy Slawson Kolb, 60, highly regarded community leader and former tax collector for the town of Plymouth passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday evening, July 2, 1998.

Born in Oneonta, she was raised in Franklin and attended the Franklin schools where she excelled academically serving as eighth-grade valedictorian, achieving high honor roll status for all 4 years of high school and receiving the distinctive honor of election to Chi Alpha, the national honor society for high school students.

After graduation from the Franklin High School, she matriculated at Delhi College and earned her A.A.S degree in secretarial science.

Following college, she worked for the General Electric Corp. in both Schenectady and  Johnson City and after her marriage she assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm.

A vital force and key player in many facets of community, organizational and church activities, as a longtime member of the Farm Bureau she served as coordinator of food sales for the Bureau.

In addition, she had served the town of Plymouth as both Plymouth historian and Plymouth tax collector and devoted many volunteer efforts to both the Plymouth Firemen's Auxiliary and Plymouth and Norwich granges.

As a longtime member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of her church, she served on many fund-raising and charitable projects and was actively involved in the planning and implementation of the well known Church suppers.

Born on Feb. 6, 1938 in Oneonta, she was the daughter of LaVerne Slawson and Viola Doster Slawson.

On July 30, 1960, in Franklin, she married George Kolb, who survives.

Besides her husband, George Kolb of Norwich, she is survived by her children, Mary Foster of South New Berlin, Keith Kolb and his wife, Denise of Earlville, John Kolb of Norwich; father and stepmother, LaVerne and Peggy Slawson of Franklin; two grandchildren, Christie Foster of South New Berlin and Heather Kolb of Earlville; her sister Barbara Teter of Greene; her half brothers, James Slawson of Maryland and L. Mark Slawson of Boston, Mass.

Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Roger Kolb and by her daughter, Wendy Meg Kolb.

As a foster mother, many young lives were touched by her compassion and capabilities.

Memorial services for Mrs. Kolb will be held on Thursday, July 9, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. from the Plymouth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Rivenburg and the Rev. Nina Revenburg, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Plymouth United Methodist Church c/o Linda Powell, Treasurer.
