Bernice Bliss Utter
MILFORD CENTER — Bernice Bliss Utter, 83, of Milford Center, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after a short illness.

She was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Milford Center, the daughter of Elmer and Maude (Bowler) Bliss.

She married John W. Utter on Dec. 10, 1932. Mr. Utter died Feb. 16, 1989.

Mrs. Utter was employed by Stanley Home Products as a demonstrator and unit manager from 1948 until 1974. She was also employed at Bendix Corp. in Sidney for several years, and was also a foster mother, having cared for 16 children over a period of several years.

She graduated from Milford Central School and was a member of the Portlandville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the senior choir.

Mrs. Utter is survived by one daughter, Shirley E. Banner of Cooperstown; two sons, James W. Utter of Schenevus and Dennis T. Utter of Milford Center; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by an infant son in 1946, and a daughter, Beverly Hoose, in 1970. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Erma Balcom and Hazel Baker, and three brothers, Lynn, Lyle and Glenn Bliss.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 1999, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the Portlandville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Milford Center Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, when the family will be in attendance.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Hazel Stark
NORTH FRANKLIN — Mrs. Hazel Stark, 92, formerly of North Franklin, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at the Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

She was born on March 14, 1907, in North Franklin, the daughter of Addison L. and Rose Schermerhorn Walling.

Hazel married Wendell Stark on Dec. 17, 1932, in Montrose, Pa. Mr. Stark died Aug. 17, 1998.

Mrs. Stark was a homemaker and was at one time employed as a telephone operator for New York Telephone, Oneonta. She was a graduate of Oneonta High School and attended Oneonta Normal School. An avid gardener and naturalist, Mrs. Stark was also a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta.

Mrs. Stark is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Darel W. and Diane Stark of Oneonta; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Daniel Lewis of Harpursville, Joan and James Klukkert of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Carel and Melvin LaVier of Cordova, Tenn.; one brother, Raymond Walling of Oneonta; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lena VanZandt.

Mrs. Stark will be cremated and her cremains, along with the cremains of her late husband, Wendell Stark, will be interred in the Milford Center Cemetery, Milford Center, on Thursday, May 27, 1999, at 10 a.m.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Theda V. Moore
SOUTH PLYMOUTH — Theda V. Moore, 69, of South Plymouth, passed away Tuesday evening, May 25, 1999, in the Wilson Hospital of  Johnson City, following a brief illness.

She was born in Lewisburg. Theda grew up and attended school in Natural Bridge. Following her schooling, she continued to live with her family on the family farm until she moved to the Chenango County area in 1949.

On Aug. 28, 1949, in New Berlin she married Harold Moore, who survives.

Theda and her family continued to live in the Norwich area for a period of 40 years, first on the Lawton-Sheer Road and then at her present home in North Pharsalia.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Theda enjoyed making her home a warm and comfortable place for her family. She was a lover of nature, always being sure that there was plenty of food in the bird feeder for her birds, especially in the winter months. She enjoyed gardening and camping, and was a collector of mini oil lamps and porcelain dolls.

Theda was also a devoted member of the North Pharsalia Bible Church.

She was born May 28, 1929, the daughter of Sylvenus and Lillian (Sadler) Baker.

Besides her husband, Harold; she is survived by her five sons and their spouses, Richard Moore of Norwich, Robert and Deborah Moore of Meriden, Conn., Gary and Denise Moore of McDonough, David Moore of Norwich and Timothy and Amy Moore of Norwich. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor Karpinski of Booneville; two brothers, Gilbert Baker of Natural Bridge and Harry Baker of Governeur; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Theda was predeceased by her sister, Josephine Lawton, and by eight brothers, Floyd, Archie, Stanley, Clarence, Howard, Clinton, Donald, and Russell Baker.

Funeral services for Theda will be held on Saturday, May 29, 1999, at 11 a.m. from the North Pharsalia Bible Church, with the Rev. Carl Brandon, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alan Carpenter. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.

Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Pharsalia Emergency Squad, 929 Hammerle Rd., Oxford, N.Y. 13830 or to the North Pharsalia Bible Church, care of the Rev. Carl Brandon, Box 210B, South Plymouth, N.Y. 13844.

Alex Philip Launt
MILFORD — Alex Philip "Bud" Launt, 79, of Arnold's Lake, Milford, and formerly of Sidney, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 1999, after a long illness.

He was born in Colliersville on Jan. 8, 1920, the son of Perry and Isabelle Wight Launt.

He married Nancy Lane on Oct. 17, 1943, in Oneonta.

Bud graduated from Oneonta High School in 1939. He was employed by Bendix, retiring in 1986.

Bud was a kind and gentle man. He had many and varied interests and was a naturalist and conservationist. He was happiest at his camp at Arnold's Lake, where he was an avid woodsman.

He was a charter member of the Arnold Lake Association.

Bud is survived by his wife of 55 years, and four daughters, Barbara Diane and Eugene Pringle of Londonderry, N.H., Karen and Robert Bruning of Bainbridge, JoAnn Launt of Hartwick and Nancy and Patrick O'Hara of Arnold's Lake, Milford. He is also survived by grandchildren, E. Christopher and Evan Pringle, Michael and Jody Burlison, Aaron and Daniel Carrig, and Ashley O'Hara; and great-granddaughters, Shannah and Ariana Hall. He is survived by a sister, Doris Callahan of Reno, Nev.

He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Friis.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Bud will be held Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at 4 p.m. at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Milford and Hartwick Emergency Squads in memory of Bud.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Eleanor Ingham
BAINBRIDGE — Eleanor "Betty" Ingham, 72, of Bainbridge, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Wilson Hospital,  Johnson City.

She was born to the late Eugene and Lulu Gertrude (Heinz) Daniels on Oct. 25, 1926, in Athens, Pa.

Betty married Fred Ingham Jr. on Sept. 24, 1952, in Genoa.

Betty is survived by her husband, Fred Ingham Jr. of Bainbridge; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Ross Ingham and Ronald Dale and Tammy Inhgam Sr., all of Bainbridge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Lou and Clifford Scott of Masonville and Mary Ann and Charles Engel of Bainbridge; one brother, James Daniels of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Jean Decker of Houston,  Texas; seven grandchildren, Summer Ann, Ronald Dale Jr. and Kristena Marie Ingham, Wendy Sue and Charles Archie Engel Jr. and Ariel Anne and Austin Clifford Scott; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 28, 1999, at 1 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Chester N. Shew, pastor of Clovesville Bible Baptist Church, Fleischmanns, officiating. Friends may call Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Peter Zacharczenko
DELHI — Peter Zacharczenko , 97, of 4 Edgerton St., a 36-year Delhi resident, died Tuesday evening, May 25, 1999, at Albany Medical Center, where he was admitted earlier in the day.

He was born Dec. 21, 1901, in the Ukraine, the son of Adrian and Theodozia (Iljenko) Zacharczenko.

Peter came to the United States in 1951, and lived in the Buffalo area, moving to Delhi in 1963, where he lived with his son and daughter-in-law, and had been a resident of Countryside Care Center for the past four years.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Troy.

His wife of 32 years, the former Jewdokia Jacun, died in 1962.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William and Val Zacharczenko of Delhi; two grandchildren, Dr. Nicholas Zacharczenko of Clifton Park and Elaine Zacharczenko-Pearson of Kingston; three great-grandchildren, Brigette Valencia and Alexander Nicholas Zacharczenko and Zachary Eric Pearson.

Friends are invited to call at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance after 6 p.m. this evening (Thursday) and funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. by his former pastor, the Rev. Wolodemyr Paszko, of Elizaville. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Francis D. Grant
ONEONTA — Francis D. Grant, 73, of Oneonta and formerly of Walton and Hancock, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born April 6, 1926, in Hancock, the son of George H. and Mary Ann (Dibble) Grant.

He married Shirley Gehrke on March 5, 1955.

He was a World War II veteran.

Francis is survived by his wife, Shirley Grant of Oneonta; two daughters, Cindy Grant of Sidney and Mary O'Brien of Walton; three sons, Alfred Grant, Steven Grant and Gary Grant, all of Oneonta; four sisters, Pearl Finegan and Jean Darling, both of Hancock, Inez of Susquehanna and Betty Grant of Susquehanna; three brothers, Frank of Walton, Pete of Hancock and Charles (Sonny) of Livingston Manor.

He was predeceased by a son, George H. Grant, on Dec. 3, 1995.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 28, 1999, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Funeral servives will be Friday, May 28, at 1 p.m. at the chapel, with the Rev. James Barbour officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.

Funeral arrangements are by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.

Raymond Walling
ONEONTA — Raymond Walling, 85, died Wednesday morning, May 26, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

Raymond was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Franklin. He married Bertha Armstrong in 1940, in Otego. They were married for 55 years, until Bertha's death on Dec. 15, 1995.

Raymond worked for a number of years at the Elks Club, Price Chopper and Kmart, all in Oneonta.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oneonta.

Raymond is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann Walling of Oneonta; a grandson, James Walling of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Randolph Palada officiating. Burial will follow at the Milford Center Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday until service time.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Margaret Kearns
SARASOTA, Fla. — Margaret Jessica Kearns, 67, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 26, 1999, after a recent illness.

She was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Birmingham, England, the daughter of Cyril and Violet (Bashford) Morley.

Margaret married Lyman C. Kearns on June 30, 1953, in Birmingham, England. Soon after, they moved to Lyman's home, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Julia Kearns of Broomall, Pa.; her son, Garry Kearns, and his wife, Laurie (Buffett), and their son, Peter, of Hartwick; a brother, John Morley, and family of Birmingham, England; a sister, Jean Leonard, and family of San Diego,  Calif.; and her mother, Violet Morley of Birmingham, England.

A memorial service will be held in Sarasota, Fla.

Arrangements were made through Toale Brothers, Sarasota, Fla.

Florence W. Strong
WESTVILLE — A committal service for Florence W. Strong, who died March 30, 1999, will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 1999, in Westville Cemetery with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Westville, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Russell G. Davidson
UNADILLA — Mr. Russell G. Davidson, 93, of Unadilla and Mission,  Texas, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Missions Hospital, Missions,  Texas.

He was born March 17, 1906, in Walton, the son of George and Laura (Russell) Davidson.

He married Ruby Bowen on July 28, 1957, in  Pennsylvania.

Russell was a farmer for many years until he began working for Bendix-Scitilla in Sidney for 30 years.

Russell and Ruby spent their winters in Mission,  Texas, and their summers in Unadilla.

He was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Baptist Church, Oneonta.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ruby Davidson of Unadilla; a daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Floyd Richard Burhans of Unadilla; a son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Rebecca Davidson of Norwich; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin and Ruth Davidson of Treadwell and Delmar and Lucy Davidson of Delhi; grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Sharon and Elizabeth Davidson, Diane Lamb and William Burhans; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Russell was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Theron and Mildred Davidson.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Russell G. Davidson will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at 7 p.m. at the Susquehanna Valley Baptist Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Bruce P. McCardle officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell.

There will be no calling hours.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the Susquehanna Valley Baptist Church, Back River Road, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in loving memory of Mr. Russell G. Davidson.

Inger N. Jewell
SIDNEY — Inger N. Jewell, 86, of Sidney, passed away Thursday, May 27, at the Skilled Nursing Facility, The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Oct. 8, 1912, to the late Dr. Frank and Maude (VanDyne) Newland of Clifton Springs.

Inger married Chester W. Jewell on Oct. 8, 1936, in Clifton Springs. He predeceased her on Dec. 31, 1990.

Inger graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy and was a retired home economics teacher from the Sidney Central School District. Inger was a member of the Women's Business Professional Club and a member of the United Methodist Church of Sidney. Inger was also an avid golfer and bridge player.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann W. Newland of Norwich; a nephew, Van Newland of Cincinnati, Ohio; a niece, Penny Mu"-rad of Oak Park, Ill.; and other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. The Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Sidney, will officiate.

Friends may call at their convenience on Tuesday before the service. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Sidney Building Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
