Patricia Anthony

NEW BERLIN — Patricia McPherson Anthony, 87, of New Berlin, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Cooperstown.

She was born March 17, 1912, in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of Gilles J. and Esta (Wolsey) McPherson.

She married Jack Anthony on Nov. 9, 1935, in Oxford. He died Jan. 17, 1984.

She spent her childhood in Canada.

Patricia is survived by several cousins, Helen Wilson of Arkona, Canada, Wendy Small of Barrie, Ontario, Canada, and David Burn of Toronto, Canada.

She was an auto underwriter for Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, New Berlin. She retired in 1977.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Church, New Berlin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor, of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.

Calling hours are Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's Church, New Berlin.

Funeral arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Edith Boyle

MONTVILLE, N.J. — Edith Boyle (nee Cripps), 95, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at the Beverwyck Nursing Home in Parsippany, N.J., after a brief illness.

She was born in London, England. She moved to Canada at the age of 19, and has lived in United States for 70 years. She was a resident of Montville from 1943 to 1963, then moved to Westford and returned to the Towaco section of Montville Twp. in 1991.

Mrs. Boyle was an avid and accomplished knitter, donating all of her work to charitable foundations, especially the Warm Up America Program.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Ann Tippner of Montville, N.J.; two granddaughters; one grandson; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel J. Boyle in 1982.

The funeral service was held at the Lewis & Carey Funeral Home in Boonton, N.J., on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000.

A graveside service will be held at the Elk Creek Cemetery in the spring.

Contributions may be made to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Local arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Irene I. Merwyn

DAVENPORT — Irene I. Merwyn, 87, of Route 23, Davenport, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

She was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Kortright, the daughter of Robert and Alice E. (Peck) All.

She married Donald W. Merwyn on Dec. 19, 1930, in Marathon. Donald died March 7, 1976.

Irene was a Davenport resident most of her life. She was a member of the Davenport United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Merwyn of Davenport; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Rose Merwyn; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Clark; and a grandson, Stephen Callahan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Judith L. Humphrey-Fox, pastor of the Davenport United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be held in the Stamford Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon between 2 and 4 p.m., at which time the family will be in attendance.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Irene's memory to either the R.A. Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford or to the Davenport Rescue Squad, Main Street, Davenport.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Carol Ann Guldi

SOUTHAMPTON — Carol Ann Guldi of Southampton and Meredith died unexpectedly at home in Meredith on Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at the age of 62.

Carol Ann was born to Vernon H. and Sarah S. Best on June 12, 1937, in Beacon.

She attended Russell Sage College in Troy for three years and she graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor's degree in English education. She also studied library science on the graduate level at C.W. Post University.

Carol Ann was married to John R. Guldi on May 30, 1958, in Schenectady.

She resided in Southampton, and also was a resident of Meredith, for the past eight years.

Carol Ann had many interests including gardening, animal rescue efforts, quilting and homeopathic medicine, amongst others.

Carol Ann is survived by her husband, John R. Guldi of Southampton; and her four daughters, Allison Armusewicz of Grand Island, Sara Moulton of Bedford, N.H., Jennifer Guldi of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Tinka Clancy of Columbia, Md. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Drew, Keriann and Alexandra Armusewicz; John and Matthew Moulton; and William Clancy. Carol Ann also leaves her mother, Sarah S. Best of Fishkill; and her brother, Peter Best of Red Hook.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at the West Kortright Centre, Catskill Turnpike and West Kortright Church Road, East Meredith on April 29, 2000, at 2 p.m.

Those who wish to make a donation in her honor may send them to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, P.O. Box 88, Delhi, N.Y. 13753.

Alfred J. Poole Jr.

UNADILLA — Alfred J. Poole Jr., 88, of Unadilla, passed away at the Johnston Nursing Home in  Johnson City on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000.

He was born Nov. 23, 1911, in Hempstead, Long Island, the son of Alfred J. Poole Sr. and Florence Roberts Poole.

He married Ruth Parks Poole on May 30, 1939, in Fort Worth,  Texas.

Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in Hempstead, Long Island. He was employed as a diesel engine sales and service representative for Bendix Corp. in Sidney. He traveled throughout the United States, retiring in 1972 after 35 years of service.

He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Poole, in January 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of  Johnson City; his daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Tom Vail of Afton; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jean Poole of Alexandria, Va.; and three deeply loved grandchildren, Daniel Vail and his wife Kerri, Katherine Vail and Mark Poole.

Mr. Poole was extremely active in the Boy Scouts of America joining the Yale Lyon Troop 1 in 1957, and serving as secretary and committee chairman. He camped with the troop one night a month throughout the year. He was elected to vigil member in the Order of the Arrow, in recognition of exceptional service to others. In 1969, he was awarded the Silver Beaver, Scouting's highest adult award, by the Otschodela Council. He served as chairman of Yale Lyon District Training Committee, was a member of the Executive Board of the Otschodela Council and chairman of the council camping committee. He was a member of Unadilla's Community Service Committee and Chamber of Commerce.

He served as village of Unadilla trustee for two years and in 1974 was elected as mayor of Unadilla serving two terms.

He was a member of Freedom Lodge #324 and Chapter 175 F&AM, from 1939 until his death, receiving his 60-year pin in 1999. He was presented with the dedicated service award in 1978, was a member of the Unadilla Model Railroad Club, was active in volunteer work at The Hospital in Sidney, and was noted for his fine craftsmanship in the field of carpentry, spending hours with his father "Al" learning the trade.

Mr. Poole was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Unadilla, having served 12 years as vestryman, five years as Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and president of Optimists. He was actively involved in the construction of the Parish Hall at St. Matthew's Church.

Funeral and committal services will be held at the Westcott Funeral Home in Unadilla at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, with the Rev. Linda J. King, pastor of St. Ann's Episcopal Church of Afton, officiating. Burial will be later in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Route 23, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Irene I. Merwyn

DAVENPORT — Irene I. Merwyn, 87, of Route 23, Davenport, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

Robert E. Murphy

OXFORD — Robert E. Murphy, 77, formerly of Warren and currently a resident of the New York State Veterans' Home, Oxford, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at the Veterans' Home.

He was born on April 11, 1922, in Ilion, the son of Edward and Anne (Carney) Murphy.

He is survived by several friends, including Jennifer Mellenbach of Bridgewater and Tina Wells of Oneonta.

Bob was a graduate of Ilion High School and entered the United States Army Air Force following graduation. He served in Normandy, Northern France, and the air defense of Europe. He received the American Defense Medal with a Bronze Star. Following the war he worked for Northrup Supply Co. and Shurkatch Corp.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at 2 p.m. from the New York State Veterans' Home, Oxford, with the Rev. Norman Holtz, pastor of the Faith Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be in the New York State Veterans' Home Cemetery, Oxford.

Friends may call at the New York State Veterans' Home, Oxford on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Arrangements are being handled by the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford.

Germaine Gedart

CHERRY VALLEY — Mrs. Germaine M. Gedart, 81, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls,

She was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Cacache Bay, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Isidore and Clementine (Meaunier) Renard.

On May 14, 1970, she married John Gedart in Ottawa, Canada. He survives.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Thomas Church, Cherry Valley at noon today, with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating. Following the service, cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley. Burial will take place in Cacache Bay Cemetery, Ontario, Canada, at a later date.

There will be no public calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Nellie J. Hulbert

ONEONTA — Mrs. Nellie J. Hulbert, 91, of Oneonta, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.

She was born May 26, 1908, in  Jefferson, the daughter of Daniel and Jennie (Cornell) Welsh.

She married Harry Hulbert on April 1, 1942. Mr. Hulbert died Dec. 20, 1963. For a period of time Nellie and her husband owned and operated TJ's Bar on Main Street, Binghamton. She also worked at the 213 Dress Company in Oneonta for 20 years, retiring in 1972.

She belonged to the AFL Ladies Garment Union through her employment and was a charter member of the Oneonta Women of the Moose. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles in  Johnson City.

She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Wormuth of Greene; a daughter-in-law, Jean McMullen of Zephyrhills, Fla.; her sister, Mrs. Mary Ellen Young of the A.O. Fox Nursing Home; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Nellie was predeceased by her son, Arley McMullen, on June 8, 1999.

Graveside funeral services will be held in the spring at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Clyde E. Tiffany Jr.

SIDNEY — Clyde E. Tiffany Jr. of Sidney, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at his home.

He was born on July 7, 1925, the son of Clyde E. and Elizabeth Oakley Tiffany in Kingsley, Pa.

Clyde married Lida Mae Tompkins on Aug. 14, 1948, in Gibson, Pa. She predeceased him on Sept. 10, 1986, after 38 years of marriage.

Clyde proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1943-1947 during World War II, and later in the Armed Guard. He saw action in the Persian Gulf, England, Normandy, France, Belgium and the Philippines. Clyde was later stationed at the Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, N.J., where he flew as an airship rigger on the blimps. Later he was a chauffeur for the Navy in Lakehurst.

In his private life, Clyde worked on the D.L. and W. Railroad and construction. For 40 years he was a chauffeur and truck driver for E.C.D. of Bendix until he retired in 1990.

Clyde married Marjorie Puffer Mott on Jan. 31, 1987, in Sidney. She survives him at home.

Clyde was a Sidney fireman, and past captain of the Sidney Fire Police. He was a devoted village of Sidney trustee since 1984, and was very active in the Republican Party being named 1999 Republican of the Year. Clyde was a member of the VFW Post #7914, Sidney, and the Masonic Lodge #445 in Harford, Pa. Clyde was very supportive of the Thomas Fagan Airport, Sidney.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Marjorie Tiffany of Sidney; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Diane Tiffany of Painted Post; grandson, Beau Elwin; and granddaughter, Sarah; nine brothers and sisters, Anson and Marie Tiffany of Kingsley, Pa., Eva Sutton of New Milford, Pa., Henry and Marie Tiffany of North Haledon, N.J., Ronnie and Jessie Tiffany of Phoenix, Ariz., Marjorie Dolph of Sparta, Mich., Jennie Seltzer of Lacona, Robert and Lillian Franklin of Kingsley, Pa., Sally Stanton of Moscow, Pa., and Rex and Beverly Tiffany of Kingsley, Pa.; six stepchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at the United Methodist Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. David Masland, pastor, officiating.

Friends may call Wednesday from noon before the service at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Fire Police.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Clyde J. Huyck

SIDNEY — Clyde J. Huyck, 99, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at the Nursing Care Facility, Sidney.

He was born Dec. 24, 1900, to the late John and Mary Boice Huyck in Rock Rift.

Mr. Huyck married Pauline Winnie on Dec. 17, 1927, in Sidney. She predeceased him on Sept. 18, 1976.

He was employed at E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, in the heat treatment room when he retired in 1968.

Mr. Huyck was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sidney.

He was also known as the "Roseman," having grown as many as 100 rosebushes around his home.

Mr. Huyck is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Roberta Huyck of Sidney; his grandson, George Huyck of Sidney; his granddaughter, Elaine, and her husband, Steven Gransbury, of Sidney; two great-grandchildren, Jared and Christopher; nephew Wayne and Donna King of Bainbridge; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is also predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, officiating.

Friends may call today. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad or the Fire Department.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
