Deborah Thomson

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Deborah Jean Thomson, 52, of Richfield Springs, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born on June 9, 1947, to Kenneth and Dorothy Blackwell at Morton Hospital in Taunton, Mass.

Deborah is survived by her father, Kenneth Blackwell of Richfield Springs; and her children, Michael Lowenstein and his wife, Florence, of Wanaque, N.J., Karen Thomson of Utica, Kathleen Thomson of Norwalk, Conn., Kristine Thomson of Richfield Springs, Kelly Winslow and her husband, Michael, of Richfield Springs and Kenneth Thomson of Norwalk, Conn. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Blackwell in 1979; her nephew, Ricky Iannotta in 1990; and her sister, Sharon Kilts in 1996.

Deborah was an avid reader and movie collector. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with all of her grandchildren. She had a great fondness for each of them and never missed an opportunity to express it.

She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

Calling hours will be on Friday, June 9, 2000, at Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown, from 7 to 8 p.m. with a memorial service following at 8 p.m. The Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

George E. Smith

BLOOMVILLE — George E. Smith, 83, of Main Street, Bloomville, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 23, 1917, in the town of Kortright, son of Everett and Ethel Mary (Every) Smith.

Mr. Smith was married to Dorothy Surace in 1955. She died in 1981.

Mr. Smith worked on the farms of W.D. Ceas and Charles McIntosh. He went to work for the Delaware County Highway Department in 1955, and retired in 1979.

He loved to cook, watch westerns, horses, fix whatever anyone wanted fixed and trade stories. He had a great sense of humor and his home was always open to anyone.

Surviving are his son, William of Hobart: stepchildren, Harriet Kerwick of Atlanta, Ga., and Frances Amaro and Tom Surace of Tom River, N.J.; grandchildren, Steven at home and Billy of Lake Conesus; a nephew, Charles of Belmont; and nieces, Margaret Ann Yockey of Brookville, Long Island, and Cora Soule of Prattsville.

He was predeceased by brothers, Charles in 1934, Leonard in 1962, and Eugene in 1991; and a sister, Anna in 1983.

At the request of the deceased there will be no calling hours or services.

Memorials may be made to the Bloomville Fire Department.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Ruth Livingston

SIDNEY — Ruth Livingston, 83, of Sidney, passed away Monday, June 5, 2000, at the Skilled Nursing Facility, Sidney.

She was born Jan. 10, 1917, to the late Zina and Delia Barrows Terwilliger in  Johnson City.

Ruth was a bookkeeper for E.C.D. of Bendix, Hotalings Sales and Service, Frank Lewis and Sons and Bainbridge Memorial Works, when she retired in 1979.

She was a devoted member of the Circle Drive Alliance Church, and played the organ for more than 30 years.

Ruth is survived by her son, Phillip B. Livingston of Bainbridge; her grandson, David and Lynn Livingston of Sidney; two great-grandchildren, Jilleen and Carly Livingston of Sidney.

She was also predeceased by a brother, George Terwilliger, in 1972.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2000, at noon at the Circle Drive Alliance Church, Sidney. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Circle Drive Alliance Church, Sidney.

Clara P. McKenna

ONEONTA — Clara P. McKenna, 89, of Oneonta, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Pasadena,  Calif., the daughter of Paul B. and Clara E. (Norton) Des Rochers.

She married Vincent McKenna on Oct. 29, 1935, in the Bronx, and he died on Oct. 22, 1982.

An area resident since 1973, Mrs. McKenna was retired from the Woolworth Co., where she worked as a saleslady.

She is survived by two sons, Vincent P. "Bud" McKenna of San Jose,  Calif., and James F. McKenna of East Clearwater, Fla.; one daughter, Jane Ellen Reynolds of Virginia Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Edith P. Dompier.

A graveside service, in which friends are invited, will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Laurens Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

James P. Potter

SIDNEY — James P. Potter of McConnellsburg, Pa., passed away Feb. 19, 2000. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Arrangements by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Marguerite Christian

HAMDEN — Marguerite H. Christian, 90, a longtime Hamden, resident died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

The daughter of Stephen and Susan (Nesbitt) Hait. She was born April 8, 1910, in Hobart, where she graduated high school in 1929, and subsequently from the former Delhi Normal School, where she received her teacher training.

She married Floyd L. Christian on June 24, 1931, he died Jan. 9, 1983.

A homemaker, Marguerite was a lifelong Delaware County resident and lived in Hamden since 1956, where she was a member of the Hamden Senior Citizens; Merry Eight Pinochle Club; Ham-DeL Craft Club and the DeLancey Garden Club.

Surviving are three sons, Raymond C. of Ellenville, Elwood R. of Lakeland, Fla., and Andrew E. Christian of Liberty; one daughter, Charis J. Moore of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Freda Preston (1998), and a son, Edward L. Christian (1964).

Friends are invited to call at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, where the family will be in attendance 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and funeral services will be conducted at 11 am. Friday, June 9, by the Rev. Bert More, with burial following in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Delhi Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Brenden M. Titus

EAST SPRINGFIELD — Brenden Marshall Titus, 12, passed away Monday, June 5, 2000, at his home.

He was born Nov. 22, 1987, at Neugartet Birth Center in Rhinebeck, the son of Bruce M. and Kyla (Minnerly) Titus.

Brenden is survived by his parents, Bruce and Kyla Titus; brothers, Vincent, and his wife, Pauline Titus, and Dylan Titus, all of East Springfield; sisters, Christina Titus of East Springfield and Diana Turner of Newburgh; grandmother, Chica Minnerly of East Springfield; grandfather, Richard Minnerly of Tucson, Ariz.; uncles and aunts, Douglas and Beth Titus of Garrison, Paul and Marissa Minnerly of Crozet, Va., and Alyn and Nina Minnerly of Boulder,  Colo.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will he held on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Cherry Valley, with Mr. Lyman  Johnson officiating.

There will be no public calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

David Flynn

SACRAMENTO,  Calif. — David Flynn, 65, of Sacramento,  Calif., died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at his residence.

He was born on May 12, 1935, in the Bronx, to David and Rose Flynn.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Mr. Flynn worked for the New York City Police Department, retiring in 1978.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Jenny Flynn of Oneonta; two grandchildren, Emily and Joshua Flynn of Oneonta; a daughter, Christina Flynn of Wappingers Falls; a son, John Flynn of Carmichael,  Calif.

A Memorial Mass will be held on July 6, 2000, at 7 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Oneonta.

Charlotte Bernhardt

MILFORD — The graveside committal service for Charlotte Bernhardt, 76, who died Feb. 25, 2000, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the Hartwick Cemetery, with the Rev. William Robert Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Schenevus, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

James R. Sherman

FLORIDA — Graveside services for James R. Sherman, who died Jan. 5, 2000, at Sun City Center, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the Harpersfield Center Cemetery in Harpersfield.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Kelly Lee Mravlja

EAST WORCESTER — Kelly Lee Mravlja, 43, of East Worcester, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown, after a sudden illness.

She was born March 29, 1957, in Cobleskill, the daughter of Warren "Jay" and Jean (Parslow) Cole.

Kelly was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate from the Richmondville High School and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Kelly worked as a residential counselor at the Upstate Home for Children & Adults Inc., 10 Cook St. in Worcester. At one time she was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in East Worcester, and had several other jobs.

She was a member of the East Worcester Fire Department.

Kelly was a loving mother, daughter, sister and a good friend to everyone. She will be dearly missed by all.

Kelly is survived by her three sons, Jeremy, Jonathon and Joshua Mravlja, all of East Worcester; her parents, Warren "Jay" and Jean Cole of Summit; sisters, Connie Cooper of Middleburgh, Judy Zeh of Middleburgh, Gina Wilson of Decatur and Kimberly Cole of Central Bridge; brothers, Jeffrey Cole of Summit and Patrick Cole of Virginia; special friends, Ron and Sheila VanBuren of East Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be Saturday, June 10, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Sunday, June 11, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Maple View Cemetery, North Road, East Worcester.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Kelly, to the College Fund for Joshua. Please contact the family for more information.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Luella Shaw

RENSSELAER — Luella Geertgens (Robinson) Shaw, 94, most recently of Rensselaer, and formerly of Franklin and Unadilla, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Rosewood Gardens in Rensselaer.

She was born in Leonardsville, Minn., on Nov. 8, 1905, the daughter of the late Jacob and Helena (Herbster) Geertgens.

Mrs. Shaw lived in the Franklin and Unadilla area for 85 years. She attended Franklin schools, first in a one-room schoolhouse on East Handsome Brook Road, and then the Delaware Literary Institute stone building on Center Street in the village.

Mrs. Shaw was the widow of Arthur L. Robinson, who died in 1966, and of Dr. Orrie Shaw, who died in 1974.

She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church on Covered Bridge Road in Unadilla for more that 30 years.

Her survivors include two sons, Donald A. Robinson of Slingerlands and James L. Robinson of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lee Geertgens of Mount Upton, Glen Geertgens of Franklin and Paul Geertgens of Scotia; three sisters, Florence Simmons of Franklin, Frances Green of Inverness, Fla., and Gladys Tiffany of Norwich.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Michael Amos, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church, Unadilla.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Ella Diamond

MARGARETVILLE — Ella Diamond, 84, of Margaretville, died June 7, 2000, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

She was born Oct. 13, 1915, in Rome, the daughter of William Diamond and Edith Kamer.

Ella is survived by her friends in the Margaretville area.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, June 12, 2000, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. S. Hayden Walsh officiating. Burial will be in the Sanford Cemetery, Margaretville. Calling hour is prior to the service on Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Michial R. Krupa

HERKIMER — Michial R. "Mike" Krupa, 54, of 386 Shells Bush Road, Herkimer, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, June 9, 2000, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Utica. Mike was comforted by the love of his wife and daughters at his side.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1945, in Herkimer, the son of the late Felix and Mary (Dowhaniak) Krupa Sr., and had attended schools in Herkimer.

He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of the Herkimer High School on Dec. 12, 1969.

Mike was joined in marriage with Karen Murphy in St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. Together, they celebrated a devoted union of more than 30 years of marriage.

Mike worked since 1978 with Skinner and Damulis Inc. of Richfield Springs. He assisted the company as a pre-owned sales manager and sales associate.

Mike was a very outgoing person who loved people and truly enjoyed his home. Being in the company of his loved ones or his friends brought out the best in him and provided him with the happiest moments. Through the years he spent many relaxing days doing yard work and was often found riding his cherished John Deere.

Mike was a skilled motorcyclist. He also shared many different philosophies with his family and was most respected for repeating the following phrase: "Life's biggest regrets are only missed opportunities." Mike will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; two daughters, Lori Nichols along with her husband, Scott, of Herkimer, and Kari Krupa of North Carolina; his granddaughter, from whom he derived so much happiness and peace of mind, Morgan Catherine Nichols; his brother, Felix Krupa Jr., and his wife, Irene, of Herkimer; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Kirk Schulkamp, of Putnam Valley; three nieces, Deborah Bongiorno of Mohawk, Linda Elliott of California and Lauren Schulkamp of Putnam Valley; and several aunts and cousins. He also leaves his precious canine friend, Shasta.

Michial was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Scott Nichols; his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Catherine Murphy; and his brother-in-law, Craig Murphy.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Frankfort and Ilion, on Sunday, June 11, 2000, from 4 to 8 p.m.

On Monday, June 12, 2000, a celebration of the life of Michial Krupa will begin at 11 a.m. at the new Enea Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, (town of Frankfort), (315) 894-8000. The Rev. Dwayne Durand and Selma Proffitt will lead the service. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where interment will take place.
