BOVINA — Graveside services for Edwin M. Doig, 94, who passed away Nov. 27, 1999, will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at the Bovina Cemetery, Bovina, at 10 a.m. with Enid Carter officiating.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Barbara Czarniak

STAMFORD — Barbara Coe Czarniak, 68, died Monday, June 12, 2000, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Barbara Esabelle Slattery in the Bronx to Alice D. Coe of  Oklahoma and John Slattery of Ireland.

She moved to Stamford from Connecticut in 1963, where she lived with her husband Stan Czarniak, who was the ski director of Scotch Valley. Stan died in 1979.

Barbara started her own ceramic business in Stamford and eventually became a well-known porcelain artist. Her one true love was painting Dresden China. She also gave ceramic classes in her home studio and taught at seminars throughout New York state. Barbara was a very talented artist with a great sense of humor who endured the past few years of her illness with great dignity.

She is survived by her children and family, daughter, Elizabeth McDonald and son-in-law, Michael McDonald of Oneonta; daughter, Holly Bator-Dziewit and son-in-law, Ted Dziewit of Stamford; son, Scott Bator of Brattleboro, Vt.; son, Stan Czarniak Jr. of  Jackson Wyo.; and grandchildren, Tara Czarniak, Ashley Clark Czarniak, Scott Bator Jr., Stan Czarniak III and Nicholas McDonald.

Donations if desired can be made to Catskill Area Hospice, Oneonta, and your local Humane Society or Animal Shelter.

Friends may call at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Clayburn of Oneonta officiating.

Interment will follow immediately at the Stamford Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Harold L. Dodge Jr.

INDEX — Mr. Harold L. Dodge Jr., 82, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his home after an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Beverly, Mass., the son of Harold Sr. and Sarah (McKnight) Dodge.

On April 5, 1968, he married Wilma Skellie; she survives.

Mr. Dodge was a lieutenant in the United States Army Tank Destroyer Division, serving under George Patton, in World War II in the European theater. After the war he served as major in UN peacekeeping force in both Europe and Asia.

He was a retired business owner and drove transportation for the Office on Aging, Cooperstown.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Cooperstown Lions Club, Otsego Lodge F&AM #138, and Otsego Hartwick Chapter #201 OES.

Besides his wife of 32 years, Wilma Dodge of Index; he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Mary Theresa Dodge of Utica; a daughter and son-in-law, Neal and Gail McManus of Cooperstown; grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael and Shannon McManus, and Richard Jr. and Nicholas Dodge; a sister and brother-in-law, Priscilla and William Sergeant of Massachusetts; a brother-in-law, Donald Gregory of Buffalo; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Aug. 6, 2000, at the Mount Vision Cemetery.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

There will be no calling hours.

The family request that donations in Mr. Dodge's memory be made to the Catskill Area Hospice or Otsego Hartwick Chapter #201 OES designated for Education Fund.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Eleanor Renwick

MILFORD — Mrs. Eleanor Jean Cornish Renwick, 70, of Milford, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at her home.

She was born in Cooperstown on Aug. 25, 1929, a daughter of Horace and Leta (Persons) Cornish.

Jean was a graduate of Milford High School and has been a resident of the Milford area her entire life.

Jean is most fondly remembered as a fixture at Crowley's General Store where she had worked for more than 46 years.

She married Ernest L. Renwick in 1970, who predeceased her on March 27, 1992.

Jean enjoyed bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards with her friends, and especially her cats.

She is survived by her four sisters, Esther and her husband, Willard Douglas, Jerri and her husband, Robert Houlihan, Joyce and Wendell Stockholm, and JoAnn Vass; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Mary Cornish; a sister-in-law, Betty Cornish; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Verna John; and a brother, Bernard Cornish.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Friday, June 16, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions, may be made to the Milford Emergency Squad or to the Milford Fire Department at P.O. Box 359, Milford, N.Y. 13807.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Howard Beagle Jr.

SANDY POND — Howard E. Beagle Jr., 74, of Sandy Pond, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Samaritan Hospital, Watertown.

He was born in Oneonta, on Nov. 29, 1925, the son of the late Howard and Helen (Bush) Beagle Sr.

He was employed by the city of Oneonta for 10 years. Before that he held various other positions including working for Joe Mitchell Trucking.

Howard lived in Goodyear Lake for many years, which included spending summers in Sandy Pond, and winters in Sebastian, Fla. Two years ago, he moved permanently to Sandy Pond.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 4067, Sebastian Inlet, Fla.

His survivors include his loving and faithful companion of 36 years, Carrie E. Streeter of Sandy Pond and Sebastian, Fla.; two brothers, Richard Beagle of Mac Dougall and Donald Beagle of Whitesboro; and one sister, Phyllis Osterhout of Alabama.

There will be no calling hours.

A private committal service will be held in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Arrangements are with the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Charles Amatuccio

LAURENS — Charles Anthony Amatuccio passed away from a sudden illness, Wednesday evening, June 14, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Known to everyone as "Chuck," he was born Jan. 9, 1967, in Oneonta.

He graduated from Laurens Central School in 1986.

A former employee of Corning Credit Union of Oneonta, he was currently employed in construction with Ron Howland.

He lived in the Laurens area all his life. He loved fishing, camping and working on automobiles.

He is survived by his beloved children, daughter, Shalisa Ann Amatuccio, 9; and son, Joshua Anthony Amatuccio, 8; his wife and their mother, Georgiana Amatuccio, also of Laurens; his parents, Frank and Ann Amatuccio of Otego; and his parents, Fred and Donna Parliman of Binghamton; his brother, Fred "Butch" Parliman of Everett, Wash.; his sisters, Donna and her husband, Bob Harris of Tynasboro, Mass., Laurie and her husband, Ed Lindroth of Otego and Carol and her husband, Don Billiter of Everett, Wash.; his brothers, Frank Amatuccio Jr. and his companion of Mount Upton, Ralph and his wife, Donna Amatuccio of Franklin and James Amatuccio and his companion of Milford; his sisters, Cindy and her husband, Pat O'Donnell of Oneonta and Kolene Parliman of Binghamton; and his only living grandparent, Mary Amatuccio of A.O. Fox Nursing Home. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Allen E. Parliman on April 9, 1969.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judy Thistle, chaplain at the A.O. Fox Hospital, officiating. Chuck will be buried at the Elm Row Cemetery, county Route 11, Laurens. The family will be present at the funeral home on Sunday, June 18, 2000, from 3 to 5 p.m. for those who wish may call.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to benefit Shalisa and Joshua Amatuccio, care of Georgiana Amatuccio, 1742 County Highway 11, Mount Vision, N.Y. 13796 in loving memory of Charles "Chuck" Anthony Amatuccio.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Kenneth Van Zandt

LOUDONVILLE — Kenneth Van Zandt, 84, of Loudonville, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home after a long illness.

He was born and raised in North Kortright.

Mr. Van Zandt was a manager of  White Motors in Atlanta, Ga., for many years. More recently, he became a licensed auctioneer and owned Van's Auctioneer Barn in Villa Rica, Ga.

He eventually returned to North Kortright before coming to live with his daughter in Loudonville.

He was a shop steward for Teamsters Local in Monroe. He was a member of the National Council for Senior Citizens, Auctioneer Association of Atlanta and an active member of the North Kortright Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his children, Gilbert Van Zandt of Port Charlotte, Fla., Charles Van Zandt of Clearwater, Fla., Thomas Van Zandt of New Windsor and Charlotte Scorsa of Loudonville. He was brother of Ralph Van Zandt of Davenport. He is also survived by several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Richard Van Zandt.

Funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Christian Church, Colonie, with the Rev. Charles Gay officiating. Calling hours will precede the service on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Route 155 south of Central Avenue). Interment will be in Memorys Garden.

David T. Lavriha

UNADILLA — David T. Lavriha, 75, of the Sidney-Unadilla Road, Unadilla, passed away Wednesday evening, June 14, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Forest City, Pa. David was the son of the late Victor and Frances Novak Lavriha.

On May 10, 1952, he married Kathryn Kondziola in Forest City, Pa.

Mr. Lavriha served his country during World War II in the United States Navy on the L.S.T. Landing Craft.

From 1955 until his retirement in 1986, David was employed by the Amphenol Corp., Sidney.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, Knights of Columbus Council 4937, Sidney, and the L.S.T. Association.

He was a former treasurer for Post #88 Boy Scouts of America, Sidney. David was instrumental in forming the Folk Music Folkgroup at his church. He enjoyed entertaining the patients in area nursing homes with his guitar and folksinging.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mrs. Kathryn Lavriha of Unadilla; four daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and William Weiler of Peabody, Mass., Kathryn Lavriha Douglas and David Douglas of Potomac, Md., Nancy and Jerald Smith Jr. of Modus, Conn., and Diane Lavriha Hunt and James Hunt of Westerly, R.I.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Sophie Lavriha of Fairless Hill, Pa., Edward and Helen Lavriha of Spring Hill, Fla., and Donald and Mary Lou Lavriha of Plumsteadville, Pa.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie and Edward Terchek of Forest City, Pa., and Loretta Tomazic of Forest City, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Victor, Raymond, Gabriel and August Lavriha; and two sisters, Frances Skubic and Mary Lavriha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2000, from the Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz and the Rev Fr. Joseph Schuck officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of his family in St. Joseph Cemetery, Forest City, Pa.

Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. There will be a wake service Friday evening.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Masonville Emergency Squad, Masonville, N.Y.; or Miami Project, 1611 Northwest 12th St., R-48, Miami, Fla. 33136, attention: Randy Medenwald.

Edna E. Twitchell

MOUNT UPTON — Edna Evans Twitchell, 88, of Mount Upton, passed away at her longtime home in Mount Upton on Thursday, June 15, 2000, after a lengthy illness.

Edna was born June 3, 1912, in Oneida, the daughter of Lewis V. and Edith (Ostrander) Evans.

She grew up in the Chittenango area and graduated from Chittenango High School. Later, she attended Keuka College, where she graduated in 1933 with a bachelor of arts degree.

In 1934, she moved to Mount Upton to assume a teaching position. There, on March 6, 1946, Edna married Arthur E. Twitchell, who predeceased her in May 1994.

Many will remember Edna from her many years of teaching English, French and Latin in the Mount Upton and Sidney schools. During her years in Mount Upton, she also served as school librarian and adviser to many extracurricular activities. Although she was a dedicated teacher, Edna's first loves were family, home and the natural world. Aside from being a homemaker par excellence, she enjoyed many crafts and hobbies during the years, and she was especially fond of gardening.

Edna is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Twitchell, of Mount Upton; grandsons, Nathaniel Twitchell of Binghamton and Matthew Twitchell of Utica; her brother, Lewis V. Evans, of Blacksburg, Va.; nieces, Edith Burzio of Glen Echo, Md., and Londa Matthews of Blacksburg; and nephews, Vincent Evans of Yorktown, Va., and Pierce Evans of Blacksburg.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Edna may make a contribution to the Mount Upton Emergency Squad or to an environmental organization of their choice.

Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.

Isabelle T. DiBello

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Isabelle Tolerico DiBello, 93, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Tandem Health Care Center in Pensacola, Fla.

She was born in Hoboken, N.J., on June 1, 1907, the daughter of the late Anthony and Vincenza Tolerico.

Mrs. DiBello had been a dressmaker in the Oneonta area and moved from the area to Pensacola, Fla., in 1981.

She married Leonard DiBello on May 5, 1925; he died May 26, 1970.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Pensacola.

Her survivors include one son, Ignatius DiBello, of Clay; two daughters, Yolanda Carroll of New City and Victoria Grodevant of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Antoinette Mulinaro, of Carlstadt, N.J., and Fort Myers Beach, Fla.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Bessie Allen

STAMFORD — Bessie Allen, 98, of Robinson Terrace, Stamford, died June 15, 2000, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 27, 1902, in East Cobleskill.

Bessie was married to Edwin Allen, who predeceased her.

She attended Cobleskill schools and for many years worked for companies that manufactured gloves and cigars.

Bessie loved dancing, sewing, flower gardening and music.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2000, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Waylen Bray, pastor of the Stamford Baptist Church, officiating. The burial will be in the Stamford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience Sunday afternoon and evening.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.
