Frieda A. Earle

OXFORD — Frieda Alice Earle, 84, of Unadilla, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at the New York State Veteran's Home, Oxford.

She was born the daughter of the late Howard F. and Frieda W. (Kohler) Overton on Dec. 7, 1915, in Lake Grove, Long Island.

Mrs. Earle married Donald J. Earle on June 8, 1941, in Bayshore, Long Island. He predeceased her on June 20, 1996.

She taught Sunday school in Bayshore and worked in a knitting mill before moving to Masonville in 1950. Mrs. Earle was an assembler for E.C.D. of Bendix in Sidney when she retired on Jan. 5, 1976. She enjoyed sewing, needlework and working on her flowers.

She is survived by a daughter, A. Martha Ward, of Bainbridge; three sons, Loren Earle of Morris and Tim and Howard Earle of Bainbridge; a brother, Harold Overton, of Huntington; a sister, Adeline Fuller, of Bayshore; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 14, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, N.Y., at 1 p.m. The Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, will officiate.

Friends may call Monday before the service.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad or the New York State Veteran's Home Recreation Department.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc. Sidney.

William B. Blatter

NEW HARTFORD — William B. Blatter, 66, of New Hartford, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born June 25, 1934, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the son of Ruth Boyce Blatter and the late William E. Blatter.

He received his MBA degree from New York University.

He served in the National Guard for 10 years.

He married Jaye Dettmann on Aug. 23, 1958, in New York City.

Mr. Blatter was the CFO for Associated Linen Services for 20 years and was the CFO for the Delaware and Otsego Corp. for 10 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a member and former treasurer of the Utica Curling Club, a member of the Rotary Clubs of Utica and Cooperstown, and also served on the United Way.

He is survived by his wife, Jaye of New Hartford; his mother, Ruth of New Hartford; his son, William C. Blatter and Kathleen Bagnoli of Latham; his grandson, William E. Blatter; a daughter, Victoria Blatter and her husband, Michael Tovares, of Annandale, Va.; his mother-in-law, Hanni Dettmann of New York City; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ralph Dettmann of New York City; his aunt, Pauline Emry of Edgewater, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Ruth and Anthony Cupolo, Linda and Jerome Musillo, and David and Nancy Dettmann; and close friends, Bob and Jean Axelson of New Hartford.

Funeral services will be held today at noon at the Friedel, Williams, Coriale & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, with the Rev. Bruce Webster officiating. Interment will be in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Queens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman St., Suite 203, Evanston, IL 60202-1375.

Dianne R. Hewitt

HARTWICK — Dianne Rose Hewitt, 61, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born July 16, 1939, in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Milton L. and Anna M. (Baker) Hotaling.

She married Charles F. Hewitt.

Dianne is formerly of Schenectady and Knox.

She graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady.

She was working as the assistant to the treasurer at Laurens Central School at the time of her death.

She was a member of the Cooperstown Farmers' Market, the Lauren's Jaguars Drill, and the New York State and Mohawk Valley African Violet Association.

Dianne is survived by her loving husband, Charles Hewitt of Hartwick; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Donna Hewitt; and grandson, Joshua of Bridgewater, Mass.; a daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and David Durante; and two grandsons, Henry and David James; and granddaughter, Frances of Reno, Nev.; uncle and aunt, Richard and Shirley Daly of Schenectady; uncle, Robert Becker of Lafayette,  Calif.; and three sisters, Patricia Schlamowitz of Watervliet, Audrey Matern of Schenectady and Linda Niemiec of Glenville.

There will be no funeral services. Burial will be private at the Reformed Dutch Church Cemetery in Claverack. The family will receive friends at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Tuesday evening, Aug. 15, 2000, from 7 to 9, when those who wish may call.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hartwick Emergency Squad, Main Street, Hartwick, N.Y. 13348, in loving memory of Dianne Rose Hewitt.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Amelia H. McLean

HAMDEN — Amelia H. McLean, 94, passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Delaware County Countryside Care Center.

Mrs. McLean was formerly a Hamden resident.

She was born in  Jeffersonville on April 12, 1906, the daughter of Homer R. and Jennie Cleaveland Howland.

Mrs. McLean is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Lloyd) Grant of Delhi; and her son, Thomas R. (Sandra) McLean of Mountain Top, Pa.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore, in 1997.

A family service will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles Tillapaugh at the Lyon Bros.-Way Funeral Chapel in Walton at 2 p.m. today. Interment will be at the Walton Cemetery.

Frieda A. Earle

OXFORD — Frieda Alice Earle, 84, of Unadilla passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.

David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Sidney, officiating. Friends may call today before the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad or the New York State Veterans Home Recreation Department.

John H. Mondore

FRANKLIN — John H. Mondore, 76, of Franklin died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.

John was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Roxbury, the son of Omer and Carrie (Whispell) Mondore.

He married Vivian Epps in 1948, at the Ouleout Methodist Church.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1948, receiving the Purple Heart.

He was a farmer in the Franklin area for many years until his retirement.

John was a member of the Franklin American Legion Post 1689 and the Sidney VFW.

He enjoyed bowling and his career in farming, but most of all, he enjoyed his family. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; and four children and their spouses, Kathleen (Mondore) and Herbert McCall of Unadilla, Richard and Patricia Mondore of Canandaigua, Stephanie (Mondore) and David Wright of Unadilla and Donna (Mondore) and Ralph Amatuccio of Franklin. He is also survived by a brother, Imar Mondore of Treadwell.

He was predeceased by a son, Ronald Mondore, in 1973. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Schuyler and Howard Mondore.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. Lyle Linder officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 9, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Fire Department.

Arrangements are with the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 81 Main St., Franklin.

George W. Palmer

EXETER — George W. Palmer, 74, of County Route 16 died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, Aug. 13, 2000, in his home.

He was born on July 17, 1926, in Beacon, the son of the late George W. Sr. and Elizabeth Farkas Palmer.

He was raised and educated in Poughkeepsie and graduated from high school there. He went on to a vocational training school for mechanics.

An honorably discharged United States Navy veteran, he served our country during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

On Oct. 10, 1964, he married Helen Piester in Poughkeepsie.

He had owned and operated a service station in Poughkeepsie.

In 1970, he and his family moved to the town of Exeter.

For 15 years Mr. Palmer was sales manager for the World Book Encyclopedia Co., retiring in 1988.

He was a former member of the Richfield Springs Lions Club.

Surviving him besides his wife of 36 years, Helen, are three sons and their wives, Thomas and Barbara Palmer of Rhode Island, Robert and Tracy Palmer of Plantation, Fla., and Jerry and Lynn Ingle of Oneonta; two daughters, JoAnn and her husband, Dexter Smith of New Berlin and Sandra Kirch of Longwood, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place at a later time to be announced.

Memorial donations may be made to the Schuyler Lake First Responders Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Envelopes will be available at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs.

Fred Kelsey

WORCESTER — Fred Kelsey, 89, of Worcester died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Cobleskill Community Hospital, Cobleskill.

He was born July 19, 1911, in the town of Otego, the son of Charles and Mary Kelsey.

A lifelong area resident, Mr. Kelsey was a veteran of World War II.

He was a carpenter by trade but loved the out-of-doors — hunting, fishing and trapping.

Fred is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Alice Kelsey of Davenport Center; a stepson and his wife, David and Eve Andrews of Morris; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place today, Aug. 14, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Fred Robert Little

SABINA, Ohio — Fred Robert Little, 70, died quietly and unexpectedly at the Autumn Years Nursing Home in Sabina, Ohio. He suffered from Parkinson's disease and did not awaken on the morning of Saturday, July 29, 2000.

Mr. Little was born July 23, 1930, in DeLancey, son of the late Henry E. and Myrtle (Delameter) Little.

Mr. Little graduated from Delaware Academy and Central School in 1950. He completed an associate degree in applied sciences at Paul Smith's College of Arts and Sciences, Paul Smith's, N.Y. in 1952, with a major in forestry. He later served on the board of directors of the college.

Immediately following graduation Fred joined the U.S. Army, served in the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge, he completed study at the John McClure School of National Hardwood Lumber Association in Tennessee.

He lived in Delhi until 1980, when he and his family moved to Santa Rosa,  Calif.

He joined his father, Henry, in Little Lumber Co. of Delhi (now Webb and Sons Inc.) and eventually assumed full ownership. He worked in the lumber business for 26 years.

Fred married Betsy Lee of Delhi in 1954, and their three children survive him: Jeffrey Little of Cupertino,  Calif., Kim Hoover of Camp Hill, Pa., and Bradley Little of Brownsburg, Ind.

Fred married Carol Kissane in 1972, and his five stepchildren survive him: Eileen Moneta and Patricia Reed, both of Charlotte, N.C., Michael Deike of Cotati,  Calif., Daniel Kissane of North Kortright and Maureen Kissane of Delhi, N.Y.

Fred left California in 1988, and married Virginia Smith in 1994, and she survives him at their farm in Winchester, Ohio. His stepchildren by this marriage survive: David Cameron of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charles Cameron of Russell, Ohio, Melodie Schnell of Winchester, Ohio, and April McCane of Forest Park, Ohio.

Surviving him is his sister, Louise, of Newark, Del., as well as 13 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents in 1990; his sister, Mabel in 1930; his brother, Erwin Henry in 1964; and his older sister, Beula Caroline Bratton of Phoenix, Ariz., on July 27, 2000, just two days before his own death.

After moving to California, he drove trucks cross-country, as an owner-operator, and continued this after moving to Ohio, for eight years. He retired in 1982, to a small farm, which he loved.

Fred was very active in the American Legion. He was a life member and a past-commander of the Donald W. Gleason Post #190, Delhi, N.Y. He was also a member of the Wesley Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union in Winchester, Ohio. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed sports.

Beula Bratton

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Beula Caroline Little Bratton, 77, died of heart disease on July, 27, 2000. She was found in her reclining chair in her apartment in Phoenix, Ariz.

Beula was born on July 18, 1923, in DeLancey, N.Y., daughter of the late Henry and Myrtle (Delameter) Little.

She graduated from Delaware Academy and Central School in 1939, and attended Hartwick College.

Mrs. Bratton worked as a bookkeeper most of her life and more recently has been employed part-time as a home-health aide. Her hobbies included music and sewing.

Beula was married to the late Gardiner Mason and lived in Delhi for many years. The entire family was severely burned in 1945, when their Delhi house burned to the ground. Other residences included Oneonta and Utica, N.Y. She moved to Phoenix when she married the late Deward Loudermilk. Phoenix has been her home since 1966.

Her recent husband, William Bratton predeceased her four years ago. Her son, James Mason of Unadilla, N.Y., died in 1995.

She is survived by her five children, Carol Walker of Auburn, N.Y., Floyd Mason of Minoa, N.Y., Alice Mack of Albuquerque, N.M., John Mason of Oneonta, N.Y., and Kathy Patikan of Phoenix. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Little of Newark, Del.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Her parents predeceased her in 1990, her sister, Mabel in 1930, and her brother, Erwin Henry Little in 1964. Her brother, Fred Little died in Sabina, Ohio, on July 29, two days following his sister's death.

In Phoenix she was active in the Phoenix Community Christian Church and was buried at the Phoenix Memorial Cemetery.

Fred J. Gilday

LAKE LUZERNE — Fred J. Gilday, 60, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at his home following a battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 31, 1939, in Cooperstown, he was the son of Walter and Kathryn (Williams) Gilday.

He graduated from Cherry Valley Central School in 1957, and Hartwick College in 1962.

Fred resided in and taught math for 32 years in Fort Plain. Since his retirement in 1994, he made his home in Lake Luzerne.

He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, hunting, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, golfing, playing cards with friends and bowling.

Survivors include his mother of Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward; a sister, Joanne Wickwire, and her husband, Warren, of Gillette, Wyo.; two nephews, Randy Wickwire of Miami, Ariz., and Larry Wickwire and his wife, Karla, of Aladdin, W.Va.; great-nephews, Levi and Dylan of Mesa, Ariz., and Travis, Graham, Kolby of Aladdin, W.Va.; great-nieces, Melissa of Alfred and Shayna of Miami, Ariz,; an aunt, several cousins, and special friends, Ciro and Doreen Magliulo.

There are no calling hours scheduled.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rockwell Falls Presbyterian Church, Lake Luzerne, with the Rev. Thomas Parsons, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Fred's name to Hospice of Warren County, 286 Glen St., Glens Falls, N.Y. 12801 or Rockwell Falls Presbyterian Church, 7 Bridge St., Lake Luzerne, N.Y. 12846.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brewer Funeral Home Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
