Irene Cook

PRESTON HOLLOW — Irene Cook, 89 years old, of Cook Road, Preston Hollow, passed away at her home on March 12, 2001.

She was born in Margaretville on Nov. 9, 1911, daughter of the late Asa and Barbara (Kittle) Delameter.

She was a former school teacher, having taught at Margaretville, Roxbury and the Reed School Dist. #9 in the Town of Broome.

She was also a member of the Potter Hollow Church.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, P. Kenneth Cook; a son, Roger Cook and his wife, Ruth, of Conesville; six grandchildren, Marilynn Clark and her husband, Rick, Carolynn Faraci and her husband, Gary, Kenneth Mattice and his wife, Theresa, Gene Mattice and his wife, Pam, Phillip Mattice and his wife, Tracey, and Betsy Mattice. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be Thursday at 8 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. before the service.

Spring interment will be in the Potter Hollow Cemetery.

James L. Thomas

EDGEWATER, Fla. — James L. Thomas, 70, of Edgewater, Fla., a postal-service carrier for 30 years in Oneonta, N.Y., died Monday, March 5, 2001, at The Hospice Care Center, Port Orange, Fla.

Mr. Thomas was born on Long Island, moved to Laurens, N.Y., in 1965, and carried mail on the West Street route, Oneonta, until 1986, when he retired.

He is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Joyce Thomas.

He is survived by his two sons, James Jr. of Laurens, S.C., and Guy of Oneonta; six daughters, Donna Lewis of Watertown, N.Y., JoyceAnn Daniels of Binghamton, N.Y., Patricia Thomas of Suffold, Va., Michelle Thomas of  Jefferson, N.Y., Karen Crosby of Garrattsville, N.Y., and Theresa Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Kay Elliott of Edgewater, Fla., Vivian Toy of Delran, N.J., and Clair Newberg of Bauxit, Ark.; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Marilyn Buel

DELHI — Marilyn Marie Buel passed away March 1, 2001, after a lengthy illness at her RAF facility home in Painted Post.

She was born March 11, 1935, the daughter of William and Virginia Lasher Buel.

She enjoyed life with her extended family at the "home" and always showed concern for those around her.

Her pet cat was her pride and joy.

She is survived by a brother, Ralph and his wife, Irene Buel, of Delhi; sisters, Jean and her husband, Robert Northrop, of Delhi and Charlotte and her husband, John Johnson, of Rock Stream; a sister-in-law, Ann Buel of Delhi; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Louis.

Funeral services were conducted by her brother-in-law on March 8, 2001, at the Haughey Funeral Home, Corning.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Woodland Cemetery at Delhi.

Charles Egloff Sr.

WORCESTER — Charles G. Egloff Sr. (Charlie), a 14-year resident of Worcester, passed through life at the age of 77 on March 11, 2001.

He served in the United States Navy Armed Guard during World War II for three years on the SS Kenmore, the SS Vera Cruz and the SS George B McClellan.

Charlie lived in Lewisboro for 44 years, raising his six children while the owner of Charlie's Wheel Alignment.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the US Navy Armed Guard WW II Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; his brother, Arthur of Dobbs Ferry; six children, Charles Jr. of Colorado, Ronald and his wife, Donna, of Lewisboro, Susan and her husband, John Blackwell, of Virginia, Richard of Lewisboro, Liza and her husband, Donald Mundy Jr., of Milford and Barbara and her husband, Bill Cage, of Pawling; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The calling hours will be held at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester on Friday, March 16, 2001, from 3 to 6 p.m., with the funeral service starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Rev. Susan Strang, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial with military honors will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, later in the spring.

Donations may be made to the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center, Atwell Drive, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

John P. Elwood

MONTICELLO — John P. Elwood, 82, of Monticello, formerly of Delhi, died March 11, 2001, at Community General Hospital, Harris.

He was born Feb. 9, 1919, in Rockland, the son of William T. and Vida (Krantz) Elwood.

He married the late Ellen Lasher in 1943; she passed away in 1993. In 1997, he married Gloria (Grimes) Elwood in Monticello; she survives at home.

He is also survived by four sons, Walter Elwood of Oriskany Falls, David Elwood of Connecticut, George Elwood of Albany and Donald Elwood of Monticello; a stepdaughter, LaTaisha Robinson; four granddaughters; one brother, Jay Paul Elwood of Albany, Ga.; and a sister, Margaret Slaghuis of Michigan.

Mr. Elwood worked as a heavy-equipment operator in the Downsville area, leaving in 1971 to Monticello. He graduated from Delaware Academy and the State University College of Technology at Delhi.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 15, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with Diane Wickham, lay preacher, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in the spring at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Isadore Kozlowski

SIDNEY — Isadore Ralph Kozlowski, 84, of Sidney, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Wilson Memorial Hospital,  Johnson City.

He was born April 4, 1916, in Forest City, Pa., son of the late Julian and Mary Golonsky Kozlowski.

Isadore graduated from Forest City High School and served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1939 to 1941.

He married Charlene Kennedy on Jan. 3, 1947, in Monroe, La.

Mr. Kozlowski was employed by Crawford Door, Williamsport, Pa., and retired from E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, as a facilities repairperson.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene Kozlowski; a son, Steve Kozlowski; a daughter, Christine Lieb; sister, Helen Slavinsky of Pennsauken, N.J.; four grandchildren, Kim Ives, Jinnie Lieb, Kelsey Lieb and Dustin Lieb; and a great-grandson, Dillon Ives.

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 30, 2001, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, officiating.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Robert Oliver

NORWICH — Robert Joseph Oliver, 70, of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Norwich, founder and former owner of Oliver's Campers, passed away March 9, 2001, at his home in Florida.

He was born in Oneonta on Feb. 10, 1931, the son of James H. and Edna (Gage) Oliver.

On June 6, 1953, he married Shirley Fish, who survives.

Bob graduated from Oneonta High School in 1948. He then attended Cornell University, where he earned a B.S. degree in 1952.

From there, he served in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps, where he attained the rank of captain. Following an honorable discharge from the army, he worked at GLF in Hornell (1954-55) and Norwich Pharmacal Company (1955-71).

In 1966, Bob and Shirley founded Oliver's Campers, a recreational-vehicle dealership. He and his family operated this business until 1990, since which time it has been operated by his son James.

Besides his wife of 47 years, Shirley, Bob is survived by his children, Richard and his wife, Mary, of Syracuse, Susanne Oliver of Syracuse, James and his wife, Marilyn, of Norwich, David and his wife, Marcia, of Norwich and Robert Oliver of North Fort Myers. Bob is also survived by four grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler and Jordan Oliver and Eric Jennings, all of Norwich. Other survivors include a brother, Philip, and his wife, Vesta, of Penn Yan; and nieces, nephews, and several cousins.

Bob was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church and also of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and Moose Club.

The family enjoyed many camping trips through the years. Bob and Shirley enjoyed many trips together, including Thailand, Japan, Hawaii, Germany, Austria, Ireland and several cruises. Bob also enjoyed attending football games to watch family members who played for Norwich High School, the Oneonta Indians, the Chenango Storm, Boston College and Norwich Pop Warner. Bob's other favorite activities included playing cards, playing golf, working on home projects, telling stories and visiting with his many friends and family.

Bob always enjoyed celebrations with family and friends, including his 25th and 40th wedding anniversary parties, his retirement party in 1990 and, most recently, his 70th birthday party, several high school reunions and the annual Oliver Pow Wow (family reunion). In later years, Bob and Shirley enjoyed summers at their home on Mead's Pond.

Funeral services for Bob will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Broad Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rebekah Sweet officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Broad Street United Methodist Church, care of Building Fund, 74 North Broad St., Norwich, N.Y., or to Hope Hospice of Cape Coral, 130 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral, Fla. 33990.

Emma Young All

SOUTH WORCESTER — Emma Young All, 85, died March 14, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 5, 1915, at Broome Center, the daughter of Henry and Sarah (Bull) Young.

Emma married Abram All on Feb. 23, 1931, at the West Conesville Methodist Church. Abram died March 6, 1966.

She is survived by a son, Raymond Ahl and his wife, Dorothy, of Saugerties; and a daughter, Evelyn G. Castle and her husband, Gene, of Gilboa; a granddaughter, Sandra Castle Andrews of Michigan; a stepgranddaughter, Bonnie Davis of Saugerties; a stepgrandson, Robert Lewis of Saugerties; a sister, Evelyn (Young) Haskin of West Conesville. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Emma's sister, Hattie Conine, died June 30, 1991.

Friends may call at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St. (corner of Liberty Street), Stamford, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2001. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 17, 2001, with the Rev. Pastor Robert Nash, officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in  Jefferson at a later date.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Irene Fox Decker

PORTLAND, Ore. — Irene Fox Decker passed away March 9, 2001, at her home in Portland, Ore.

Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Hobart, N.Y., daughter of James J. and Ilona Molnar Fox.

She married John Winfield Decker on Oct. 24, 1936, in Hobart. He predeceased her Sept. 9, 1999.

She retired from the Ruth Ashbrook Bakery, Portland, Ore., in 1980, after 24 years of employment.

She is survived by her son, James Winfield Decker and his wife of Tualatin, Ore.; and five daughters, Jean A. Heflin and her husband of Lothian, Md., Barbara I. Gray, Teresa K. Decker of Portland, Ore., Susan L. Cyders and her husband of Salem, Ore., and Doreen M. Watson and her husband of Gladstone, Ore.; four sisters, Margaret Fox, Rose Erickson of Oneonta, N.Y., Louise Grant of Otego, N.Y., and Mary All and her husband of East Meredith, N.Y.; one brother, Joseph J. Fox and his wife of Oneonta; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Fox Sipos and Elizabeth Fox Barletta.

Burial services will be held at a later date at the Grant Cemetery, Hobart Township, N.Y.

George A. Partelow

WORCESTER — George A. Partelow, 90, of Worcester, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at his home.

He was born July 19, 1910, in Ossining, the son of Ralph and Annie (Fowler) Partelow.

He was the loving husband to Anna Ruth Bauman for 63 years. They married on June 15, 1929, at the Scarborough Episcopal Church. She predeceased him Nov. 7, 1992.

Mr. Partelow retired after 50 years with the Local No. 11 Westchester County Carpenters and Jointers of America. He was a great craftsman.

Mr. Partelow was a member of the Eagles Club in Crotonville.

He loved fishing, hunting, square dancing and bowling and still holds the record for the largest lake trout, 20 pounds, caught at the Kensico Reservoir on April 13, 1945.

He was the loving father of George E. and his wife, Marjorie Partelow, of Worcester, Donald R. and his wife, Carole Partelow, of Maryland, Dolores M. and her husband, George T. Curry, of Cayuga and Marjorie E. and her husband, Jack R. Coon, of Schenevus. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph E. and his wife, Dorothy Partelow, of Delhi; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and 19 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father in 1928; his mother in 1975; a brother, Harold J. Partelow, in 1978, three sisters, Eleanor Mae Dykstar in 1976, Gertrude Pileggi in 1974 and Marjorie E.  Johnson in 1994.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2001, from 1 p.m. to the funeral service time at 2 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, Worcester, with the Rev. Susan Strang, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Worcester, officiating.

Burial will take place at the Dale Cemetery, Ossining, at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Mary V. Kerzich

YUMA, Ariz. — Mary V. Kerzich, R.N., 94, of Yuma, Ariz., passed away March 7, 2001, in Yuma, Ariz.

She had previously lived in Redwood City,  Calif., but more recently was a resident of Yuma, Ariz.

She was born July 28, 1906, in Little Falls, N.Y., the eldest daughter of Anthony and Jennie (Gabrobsek) Kerzich.

Mary was a registered nurse and retired as Director of Nursing from Sequoia Hospital, Redwood City,  Calif.

She is survived by her brothers, Anthony and Ruth Kerzich of Hurley, N.Y., and Joseph Kerzich and his wife, Delphine, of Schenevus, N.Y.; six nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; as well as friends, Blanche and Mike DiVita of Yuma, with whom she had made her home in recent years.

She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Ludwig and Anna Kerzich; her sister Mildred Watson and sister and brother-in-law Bertha and William McNulty.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2001, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Cherry Valley. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Index.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Rose Powell

GUILDERLAND — Sister Rose E. Powell, RSM (Sister Mary Placida), died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center.

A Sister of Mercy for 67 years, Sister began her years of ministry as a teacher in Sacred Heart of Mary and St. Patrick's Schools in Watervliet.

After graduation from St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing and St. Louis University, Sister Rose served for more than 40 years at St. Peter's as an instructor in the School of Nursing and as night supervisor. She retired in 1985.

The daughter of the late Angelo and Consiglia Powell, sister was a native of Oneonta.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Powell, and her brother-in-law, Joseph Ross, both of Oneonta. She is also survived by four nieces, Mary Anne Ross of Oneonta, Mary Powell of Cooperstown, Mrs. Rose Anne (Bud) Pirone of Oneonta and Betty Powell of Oneonta; two nephews, Chris Powell of Denver,  Colo., and Fred and his wife, Sue Powell, of Otego; and two grandnieces, Ana and Heather Powell of Otego.

Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian death and burial celebrating the life of Sister Rose on Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in the Convent of Mercy Motherhouse Chapel in Albany, followed by interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.

Sister Rose was predeceased by her brothers, Pat and Fred Powell, and her sister, Mary Powell Ross.

Contributions in memory of Sister Rose Powell, may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 310 South Manning Blvd., Albany 12208.
