Catherine (Katie) Caradonna

WEST LAURENS — Catherine (Katie) Caradonna, 101, died peacefully, Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the home she shared with her granddaughter, Lois Rosenkranz, in West Laurens.

She was born in Queens, on Oct. 29, 1899, the daughter of Joseph and Maria (Delfino) Coppola.

She married Leonard Caradonna in Brooklyn on June 21, 1921. He passed away in 1958.

She had worked as a milliner and seamstress in the metropolitan area for many years and was also a partner with her husband in Lennys Barber Shop in Jamaica.

She had lived in the BethPage Senior Citizens complex for 25 years, where she was active in the BethPage Golden Age Club.

She had lived the last five years with her loving family in the West Laurens area, where she crocheted afghans for all of her three children, her nine grandchildren and many of her 16 great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her special friends, Bear, Rusty, Mitz and Buster.

She was a member and active communicant of St. Mary's R.C. Church of Oneonta.

She is survived by her children, Josephine Longhitano of Centereach, Marie Rosenkranz and her husband, William, of Morris and Joseph Caradonna of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; nine loving grandchildren; 16 loving great-grandchildren; and her special friends, Virginia  White, Joann Roseboom, Jennifer Carroll and Sandra Jones.

Three brothers predeceased her.

Calling hours will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, and Wednesday, March 21, 2001, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, 385 Main St., Farmingdale. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at the St. Killians R.C. Church, and burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the St. Mary's R.C. Church, Oneonta, in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Leonard Erickson

ONEONTA — Leonard A. Erickson, 83, of Oneonta, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.

He was born March 24, 1917, in Laurens, the son of David and Hilda (Johnson) Erickson.

He married the former Geneva Van Denburgh on Aug. 9, 1942. She survives him.

Leonard was a lifelong area resident. He worked for the John M. Robertson Construction Co. in Oneonta for many years before his retirement.

He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

Leonard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oneonta and had been the church's financial secretary for 10 years.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife and taking pictures of their trips. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed his garden.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Geneva Erickson of Oneonta; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Dix of Owego; and a niece and her husband, Gail and Tom Sarrge of Owego.

He was predeceased by a sister who died in infancy.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Caswell Reeves, pastor of the Heritage Baptist Church, Campville, officiating. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, on Tuesday evening, March 20, 2001, from 7 to 9, when the family will be present at the funeral home. Mr. Erickson will be placed in the Bookhout Funeral Home Private Vault to await spring burial in the Milford Center Cemetery, Milford Center.

Expressions of sympathy may be given to the First Baptist Church, Chestnut Street, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, in memory of Leonard A. Erickson.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Robert W. Crowley

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. — Robert W. Crowley of Mount Holly died at his home on March 15, 2001. He was 74.

Born and raised near Oneonta, N.Y., he joined the armed forces during World War II and later served in the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1968, settling in Mount Holly. He then worked for United Aero Products Inc. in Burlington for many years. After retiring, he worked for the Trenton Times until the summer of 2000.

He served in the Mount Holly community for 13 years as a Little League coach and was a longtime member of the VFW Post 2692 and the Moose Lodge #737 of Mount Holly. He was also an avid bowler and could be found in many of the area bowling centers until his health prevented this activity.

He was the loving husband of Marilyn (nee Buck) of Mount Holly. He is survived by three sons, Bill of Colorado Springs,  Colo., Terry and Rick, both of Mount Holly. He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren, Tom, Paul and Kristen of Colorado and Colleen and Sean of Mount Holly.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly. Interment will be in BGWCD Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the National Foundation for Cancer Research, P.O. Box 96021,  Washington, D.C. 20090-6021.

Robert Barthelmes

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Robert Barthelmes, 79, most recently of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died Friday, March 16, 2001, at his residence.

He was born March 14, 1922, in Stamford, N.Y., the son of Jack and Anita Barthelmes.

He married Helen Marie Cronin on Feb. 8, 1942, in Albany. She died on June 3, 1993.

Bob served in the United States Army during World War II.

For more than 20 years before his retirement, Bob was the proprietor of Broad St. Inc., dba Discount Liquor in Oneonta.

He was a member of BPOE 1312. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Oneonta Country Club.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Norene and Thomas Tricarico of East Rockaway, N.Y., and Robert G. and Lana Barthelmes of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; his grandchildren, Sean Robert Barthelmes of Spring Lake, N.J., Erica Burnett of Charlotte, N.C., and Jordan and Justin Tricarico of East Rockaway, N.Y.; and a great-grandson, Casey Burnett. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be later in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home.

Charles Labruzzo

SIDNEY — Charles J. Labruzzo, 87, of Sidney, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born Feb. 26, 1914, in New York City, son of the late John and Antoinette Labruzzo.

Charles married Mary Nappi in June of 1937, in New York City. She predeceased him on June 23, 1994.

Mr. Labruzzo was a self-employed roof contractor in the Bronx.

He attended Sacred Heart Church, Sidney.

Charles is survived by a daughter, Marie Cirino of Sidney; a brother, John Labruzzo; two sisters, Lucy Scaglione of Sidney and Josephine Carone of the Bronx; two grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Prayer services will be held today at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Schuck, Sacred Heart Church, officiating. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, on Tuesday, March 20, 2001.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Isabel Schall

DELHI — Isabel Schall, 91, a lifelong Delhi area resident, passed away Friday morning, March 16, 2001, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi, where she had been a resident since January 1998.

She was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Bovina, the daughter of Thomas A. and Mary (King) Raitt.

A 1927 graduate of Hilton Memorial High School in Andes, she attended Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, graduating in 1931.

Isabel married Henry Schall on April 17, 1938, in Delhi. Mr. Schall passed away July 11, 1990.

She taught elementary school for many years, first at the Dry Brook School in Meredith, then at Delaware Academy in Delhi.

She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi.

Surviving are her brother, John E. Raitt of Delhi; a sister, Mary J. Raitt of College Point; three sons, Richard Schall of Shelburne, N.H., Lynn (Monique) Schall of Ellington, Conn., and Lee (Noeme) Schall of the Philippines; a niece, Jan Raitt of Delhi; seven grandchildren; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Schall, on Aug. 25, 1950; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Schall.

Friends are invited to call Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton Street, Delhi, on Sunday, March 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Arvid Whitmore officiating.

Burial will be later in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions may be made in Isabel's memory to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet and Son, Delhi.

Wilfrid 'Lee' Milner

BOVINA — Wilfrid "Lee" Milner, 82, of Bovina, died March 15, 2001, at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.

He was born June 18, 1918, in Yonkers, the son of Wilfrid W. and Marguerite (Todd) Milner.

Mr. Milner was employed in health-care housekeeping at Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, N.J.

Two nephews survive him.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Hartt officiating.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Marion M. Trask

ONEONTA — Marion M. Trask, 90, most recently of Oneonta and formerly of Otego, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Oneonta, the daughter of Percival and Mary (Carson) McManus.

She married Alton Perry Trask on Feb. 15, 1933. He died May 21, 1985.

She was a sales clerk at J.J. Newberry and Woolworth Department Store in Oneonta.

Marion was a member of St. Mary's Church and was very devoted to her faith.

She was also a member of the Otego Grange and enjoyed cooking, sewing and music.

Marion was a loving and caring mother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Robert Bruce Trask of Otego and Catherine and Joan I. Trask of Oneonta; and two grandchildren, Dennis Robert and Lorraine Star Trask. She is also survived by one niece, two nephews and several cousins.

Marion was a niece of the late Dr. Alexander F. Carson.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home.

George E.  Taylor Jr.

SCHUYLER LAKE — Mr. George Edwin  Taylor Jr., 84, passed away Monday, March 19, 2001, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County, Cobleskill.

He was born one of six children March 26, 1916, in Allentown, Pa., the son of George E. and Blanche (Plummer) Taylor.

He married Elsie Shaul of Schuyler Lake on Oct. 2, 1945; she survives.

George was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving for four years in North Africa.

He will be remembered as the owner/operator of Taylor's Service Station for 33 years

Survivors, besides his wife, Elsie  Taylor of Schuyler Lake, include a daughter, Peggy Stickles and her husband, Edwin; two granddaughters, Tammy Bianchine and Jill Ludemann and her husband, William; two great-grandsons, Tyler Bianchine and Ryan Ludemann; a sister, Katherine  Taylor Perkins; and two sisters-in-law, Celia Ferguson and Beatrice Truex.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Jack Edwin Taylor, in July 1970, in Vietnam; a sister, Irene Truex; brothers Francis and Will Truex; and a brother, Robert King Taylor.

George lived to share with others his hope of God's promise of a resurrection from the dead, back to healthy, youthful, everlasting life here on Earth. We who remain long to see him again in such a condition as well as many loved ones asleep in death but alive in our hearts and minds.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Route 28, Schuyler Lake.

There will be no calling hours.

Those who wish to make expressions of sympathy can contribute to the Schuyler Lake Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Barbara E. Marr

TODDSVILLE — Mrs. Barbara E. Marr, 72, of Toddsville, died Tuesday morning, March 20, 2001, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born on April 12, 1928, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Walter A. Race Sr. and Mabel B. Smith Race.

She married Francis Jay Marr on March 9, 1957, in the Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Raised in Cooperstown, Barbara attended Cooperstown schools.

For many years she was employed by the Cooper Inn as a housekeeper.

She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother, who will be greatly missed by her family.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 44 years, Francis of Toddsville; her son, Paul Francis Marr of Toddsville; three sisters, Mrs. Beatrice M. Eschler of Hartwick, Mrs. Alice Eckler and her husband, Harvey, of Fly Creek, and Mrs. Beverly Struckler and her husband, Edward (Bill) of New Mexico; one brother, Robert. L. Race, and his wife, Jane, of Middlefield; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Elaine Race of Toddsville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Walter A. Race Jr. and Richard Race; and one brother-in-law, Roy T. Eschler.

A graveside service will be held on a day and time to be announced.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy, in the form of memorial gifts, may be made to the Arc Otsego, 35 Academy St., P.O. Box 490, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
