Carla Kroes
NORWICH — Carla Kroes, 97, of Norwich, formerly of Meridale and Oneonta, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in Norwich.
She was born on April 9, 1903, in Echten, Netherlands, the daughter of the late Johannes and Luitje Frankema Zylstra.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Kroes, in 1974; a daughter, Lucia Benjamin, in 1976; three brothers, Johannes, Meine and Jan Zylstra; and two sisters, Deerte and Elizabeth Klynsma.
She is survived by one son, Johannes (Joe) Kroes and his wife, Janet, of Baldwinsville; three daughters, Yeska Dibble and her husband, Donald, of South New Berlin, Elizabeth Palmer and her husband, Roy, of East Meredith and Yanna Weber of Lees Summit, Mo.; a son-in-law, Robert Benjamin of South New Berlin; one brother, Theun Zylstra of the Netherlands; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kroes married Richard Kroes on May 5, 1927, in Lemmer, Netherlands. They moved to the United States in 1952, settling in Meridale, where Richard was a herdsman for Meridale Farms. They lived some time in South New Berlin before coming to Oneonta. She remained a resident of Oneonta until moving to Norwich in 1990.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Daniel W. Age, pastor of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin, officiating. Spring interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridale, next to her late husband, Richard. The family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.

John Gibbons
STAMFORD — John Gibbons (Popsie) died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Robinson Terrace, Stamford.
Born in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland. John spent most of his life in Brooklyn, relocating to Stamford in 1967, when the Gibbons family purchased the Belvedere Inn, in Stamford.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bridie Gavin Gibbons, and a son, James (Jimmy).
Surviving are his son John and his wife, Pat, of Stamford. Also surviving are his granddaughters, Brenda Evans (Gary), Deirdre Schaefer (Russell) and Aileen Butler (Jay); and one great-granddaughter, Fiona Butler.
Friends may call at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St. (corner of Liberty Street), Stamford, today from 6 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, March 26, 2001, at the Good Shepherd R.C.C. in Brooklyn at 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.
Florence A. Audette
UNADILLA — Florence A. Audette, 67, of Rogers Hollow Road, Unadilla, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at her residence.
She was born July 22, 1933, in New York, the daughter of Thomas and Francis Smith.
She was married to Gerald R. Audette on Aug. 23, 1969, in Newark, N.J.
She was a former resident of Mastic Beach, Long Island, and moved to Unadilla in 1979.
Mrs. Audette is survived by her husband, Gerald Audette of Unadilla; her daughters, Aimee and Jim Gormley of Bainbridge and Margaret Audette of Unadilla; her sons, Carmine Audette of New Orleans, La., Robert Audette of Albany and Keith Audette of Edmeston; a sister, Dorothy Connell of Teaneck, N.J.; a brother, Thomas Smith of Long Island; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2001, at Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, with the Rev. Gordon A. Polenz, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be later in Rogers Hollow Cemetery, Unadilla.
Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, on Saturday, March 24, 2001, and Sunday, March 25, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.

Frances Daniels
SIDNEY — Frances Neidlinger Daniels, of Bainbridge, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 22, 2001, after an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 15, 1911, in the town of Guilford, daughter of the late Charles and RoseElla (Lee) Baldwin.
She was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, as a clerk, when she retired in 1974.
Frances married John Neidlinger in 1931. He predeceased her in 1975. In 1978 Frances married Harry Daniels, who survives.
In the 1940s she was an active member of the Bainbridge Home Bureau, Chenango County Home Bureau and Home Extension. Frances was a charter member of the Algonquin Grange, Bainbridge. She was an elder of the United Presbyterian Church of East Guilford as well as an active member and president of the women's group for many years. Frances was also a member of the Women's Club in Bainbridge.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Daniels, of Bainbridge; a sister, Rosemarie Zimmer of Marietta, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Lola and Richard Palmer of East Guilford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Marlene Neidlinger of Yorktown, Va., and David and Cheryl Neidlinger of Bremerton, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also loved and will be missed by Luanne and Bonnie, her caregivers who were at her side every day.
She is predeceased by a sister, Verla Perrella; four brothers, Clifford, LeRoy, Harold and Charles (Jack) Baldwin; and a son, Paul Otto Neidlinger.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Allen Presby, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of East Guilford, will officiate.
Friends may call Tuesday, when the family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, in the spring.

Paul Boyd
GUILFORD — Paul Boyd, 90, of county Road 35, Guilford, went to be with his Lord on Thursday evening, March 22, 2001, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born Feb. 2, 1911, in Union, the son of the late Emory and Edna Finch Boyd.
On Oct. 22, 1993, he married the love of his life, Gertrude Dewey Pierce, at home in Guilford.
Paul was a graduate of the Bainbridge high-school class of 1932. For more than 20 years, he was employed by the E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, retiring in 1973.
Mr. Boyd was a 70-year member of the First Baptist Church, Bainbridge. He served his church in numerous capacities, as trustee, deacon and greeter. He was also a member of the Algonquin Grange of Bainbridge.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Pierce-Boyd, of Guilford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Reta and Gene Craver of Riverside, Calif., Linda and Fran Manzer-Edgewood of New Mexico and Edna and Walter Brooks of Unadilla; two stepdaughters and a son-in-law, Leota and Charles Hendrix of Mt. Upton and June Pierce of Guilford; a stepson, Douglas S. Pierce of Guilford; and a sister, Marjorie Felter, of Syracuse. He is also survived by six grandsons; four granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; two stepgranddaughters; four stepgreat-grandsons; and a nephew and several cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, from the First Baptist Church, Bainbridge, with the Rev. Sundar Samuels, pastor, and the Rev. Mary Ann Linder, pastor of the Guilford United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be later in the Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.
Friends are invited to call from 3 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Guilford Emergency Squad or the Bainbridge First Baptist Church, if desired.

Richard Sweeting
NORWICH — Richard F. Sweeting, Jr., 74, of Valley View Manor Nursing Home, Norwich, and formerly of Unadilla, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Brooklyn, the son of Richard and Marie (Carman) Sweeting.
He had been a resident of Unadilla for many years before moving to Norwich in 1996. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Corps, and was a former employee of the Town of Unadilla Highway Department.
Richard is survived by a brother, Donald Sweeting of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Styczynski of Queens; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
Burial will be later in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 27, from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
Eleanor Salvador
ONEONTA — Eleanor Salvador, 81, a resident of Oneonta for 38 years, died at the Claridge House Nursing Home in Florida on Tuesday, March 20, 2001.
She was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 27, 1919. She married George Salvador in 1944 in Long Island.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Oneciphory in Franklin.
She is survived by her husband, George Salvador; her son, Robert Salvador; daughters Judy Salvador and Nancy Cleary; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in Oneonta at a future date.
Howard Burdick
HOBART — Howard "Pete" Burdick, 63, of Hobart, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
He was born March 30, 1937, in Schenevus, son of Charlotte and Howard Burdick.
He leaves a wife, Louise Hitchcock, at home.
He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Clapper of Palisades Park, N.J., and Betty Arnold of St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was a retired truck driver.
Interment will be in Stamford Cemetery at a later date.
Contributions may be made to Hospice, 20 Elm St., Delhi, N.Y. 13753.
There were no services. Arrangements were handled by the William A. Tari Funeral Home, Stamford.
Walton G. Forsythe
ONEONTA — Walton G. Forsythe Sr., 88, of Oneonta, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1912, in Oneonta, the son of Wayne and Evalyne (Lint) Forsythe.
He married Evelyn Lenora Fessler on Aug. 28, 1934, in Hamilton. Mrs. Forsythe predeceased him on Jan. 5, 1981.
Walton lived in the Oneonta area his entire life.
He was a veteran of the CCC Camp during the Great Depression.
He worked several jobs, including Stevens Hardware of Oneonta, Scintilla in Sidney, the D&H Railroad and Sears Roebuck and Company, from which he retired as the manager of the hardgoods department after 37 years.
Walton was an 80-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta and a 62-year member of the Oneonta B.P.O.E. #1312.
He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his later years he enjoyed watching the birds and looking at the flowers and watching them grow.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and dear friend who will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Walton G. and Nancy Forsythe Jr.; his grandchildren, Wayne E. Forsythe of Oneonta, Mrs. John (Stephanie) Wyckoff of Unadilla and Mrs. William (Dorie) Race of Cooperstown; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Mary Long of Oneonta; a very dear friend, Millie Parish of Oneonta; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Walton was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Moak of Oneonta.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery in the spring.
There will be no calling hours.
It has been requested that, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, in loving memory of Walton G. Forsythe Sr.
Ted J. MacDougall
AMSTERDAM — Ted J. MacDougall, 50, of Jackson Street, Amsterdam, died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, March 25, 2001, in his sleep.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1951, in Oneonta, the son of Robert and Mary Bennett MacDougall.
Mr. MacDougall was a graduate of Oneonta High School. He moved to Amsterdam in 1974.
Mr. MacDougall first worked in the area as manager of Carls Drug Store on Church Street, Amsterdam. He then was the owner and operator, with his wife, of Ted's Deli, formerly Cork Hill Deli, from 1982 until closing the deli in 1987. He then went to work for Hannaford's Supermarket in Amsterdam, as the supervisor in the deli department, until his retirement due to illness in 1995.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta.
Ted was also an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting in his spare time.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Linda C. Beams MacDougall, whom he married on Nov. 8, 1970; his mother, Mary Bennett MacDougall; three sons, Frank J. MacDougall of Fonda, Charles J. MacDougall of Mayfield and Michael J. MacDougall of Amsterdam; a daughter, Amy L. MacDougall of Amsterdam; two grandchildren, Sean and Meaghan MacDougall; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Dan Wheeler officiating. The burial will take place in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, in the spring. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
Marguerite Washburn
UNADILLA — Marguerite C. Washburn, 75, of Unadilla, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born July 3, 1925, in the town of Colchester, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Fuller) Cornell.
She was married to Wilford H. Washburn Sr. on June 14, 1942, in Wells Bridge. Mr. Washburn died April 22, 1986.
Mrs. Washburn had been a resident of Unadilla for many years and was a former employee of the Deer Head Inn in Wells Bridge.
She was a member of the Unadilla Baptist Church, Wells Bridge Senior Citizens, a 50-year member of the Unadilla Grange and a member of the Otsego County Pomona Grange and the New York State Grange.
Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Mary VanValkenburg of Unadilla and Louise Herbert of Oneonta; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wilford Jr. and Melissa Washburn and David Washburn of Unadilla; two sisters, Helen Bishop and Barbara Derig of Hancock; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at the Unadilla Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brian R. Cutting, pastor of the Unadilla Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be later in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, on Tuesday, March 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance. A Grange memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
