Claude Letson
TICONDEROGA - Claude Letson, 95, of Ticonderoga, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at the Heritage Commons Residential Healthcare of Ticonderoga.

Born in Paradox, Oct. 16, 1912, he was the son of the late William and Eliza (DeZalia) Letson.

Mr. Letson was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II, where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Katherine Grow
HUDSON FALLS - Katherine Grow, a longtime resident of Hudson Falls and a devoted communicant of St. Mary's/St. Paul's Parish, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington, Vt. She was 93 years old.

Born Aug. 8, 1915, in Massena, N.Y., to Herbert and Katherine Brannon Smith, she was the first of six children.

After graduation from Massena High School she worked for the Western Union Telegraph Company in Montour Falls, N.Y. She later returned to Massena where she managed the Western Union office for seven years.

Edward R. Beebe
SOUTH HARTFORD - Edward R. Beebe, 85, of state Route 40, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on June 9, 1923, in Putnam, he was the son of the late Roswell M. and Mary (Conley) Beebe.

Ed graduated from Fort Ann Central School.

Robin J. (Newell) Wood
FORT ANN - Robin J. (Newell) Wood, 47, of Burquist Road, Fort Ann, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Clara B. Anderson
QUEENSBURY - Clara B. Anderson, 90, a longtime Corinth Road, resident, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at The Pines, in Glens Falls, after a short illness.

Born on Aug. 29, 1918, in the town of Moreau, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Cora (Mabb) Morgan.

She married Arthur A. Anderson on April 4, 1946, in Hudson Falls. He died July 29, 2000.

Rev. Robert T. Skarsten (Pastor Bob)
WILTON - The Rev. Robert T. Skarsten (Pastor Bob) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. For the last three months he fought a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Bob was born in a farm house at the end of Rosfiord in Skarsten, Norway on May 23, 1937, to Birger and Gudrun Skarsten.

He came to the United States with his parents as a toddler and became a citizen of the United States when he was 12 years old.

Elsie (Gleason) Bixby
HUDSON FALLS - Elsie (Gleason) Bixby, 54, of Burgoyne Avenue, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on Feb. 6, 1954, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Waneta (Morse) Gleason.

Elsie was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

Dr. Robert Ross Kana
GLENS FALLS - Dr. Robert Ross Kana, 61, of Glens Falls, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home where he was a resident for the past several years.

Dr. Kana was born on Feb. 4, 1947, in Glens Falls, N.Y. He was the son of the late Robert and Rose (Ross) Kana.

Bob attended grade school in Salem, N.Y., where his father was athletic director. The family then moved to Whitehall in 1960, the hometown of both his parents. He graduated from Whitehall High School in 1965. He attended Villanova University where he received his bachelor's degree in 1969. Following his graduation, he became a graduate assistant at Villanova and received his master's degree in Psychology in 1971.

Diane Rawleigh
FORT ANN - Diane Rawleigh of Fort Ann, N.Y., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008.

She was born Oct. 3, 1945, at Glens Falls Hospital to Margaret and Raymond Dunton Sr.

Diane attended Hudson Falls High School and Adirondack Community College.

Sister Theresa Scarselletta
GARRISON - Sister Theresa Scarselletta, on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, the soul of Sister Theresa Scarselletta was met at heaven's gate by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and welcomed into his glorious garden to honor her love and dedication in his name here on earth.

Born in Glens Falls, N.Y. on Oct. 16, 1935, to Mario Sr. and Isabelle (DeCarlois) Scarselletta, one of 11 children.

Sister Theresa attended St. Mary's Academy and upon graduation joined the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement on July 9, 1955.

Kenneth E. Gussow
WARRENSBURG - Kenneth E. Gussow, 59, of Monte Vista Drive, passed away, Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Friends may call on Ken's family from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday evening, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.

A memorial service of remembrance will follow the visitation at 7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Kenneth E. Gussow
WARRENSBURG - Kenneth E. Gussow, 59, of Monte Vista Drive, passed into the hands of the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008.

Born on Feb. 18, 1949, in Brooklyn, he is the son of Erich and Beatrice (Rexer) Gussow of Flagler Beach, Fla.

Kenneth married Rochelle Bundi on Dec. 12, 1984, at their home. Ken was a loving and devoted husband, best friend, and soul mate to Rochelle.

Clara B. Anderson
QUEENSBURY - Clara B. Anderson, 90, a longtime Corinth Road, resident, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at The Pines, in Glens Falls, after a short illness.

Danny R. Brown
GLENS FALLS - Danny R. Brown, 49, passed away on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Born on July 24, 1959, in Polk County, Ga., he was the son of David M. Brown and Alma Jean (Blackmon) Burroughs.

Danny worked at SCA Tissue in South Glens Falls. There he enjoyed all aspects of heavy-equipment operations.

Steven "Beaver" Lyle Joiner Sr.
GRANVILLE - Steven "Beaver" Lyle Joiner Sr., 57, of Granville went to the Lord on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital following a short bout with cancer.

Born in Glens Falls on Sept. 26, 1950, he was the son of Raymond and Olive (Hatch) Joiner.

Steve grew up in Fort Edward and enlisted in the Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.

Charlette L. Combs "Sharkey"
QUEENSBURY - Charlette L. Combs "Sharkey," 74, of Corinth Road, Queensbury, died of metastasized breast cancer, Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at home, with her loving family by her side.

Born Nov. 13, 1933, in Cannon, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Ottis (Worth) Foster.

Sharkey was an avid garage-saler and loved crafts and cooking. She could take anything and turn it into a piece of beauty. Her afghans are heirlooms for many of us. A piece of her strong spirit will stay alive in each of us who had the honor to know and love her.

Robin J. (Newell) Wood
FORT ANN - Robin J. (Newell) Wood, age 47, of Burquist Road, Fort Ann, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Her family was with her as she left and went to her new home in the arms of God.

Born Nov. 13, 1960, in Glens Falls, she was the beloved daughter of Clifford and Jane (Burton) Newell.

She graduated from Lake George High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1980, being honorably discharged in 1984. Following her discharge, she traveled to Quito, Ecuador, where she spent time working as a missionary as a medical technician in their hospitals.

William "Bill" Daniel Johnson
MOREAU and ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. - William "Bill" Daniel Johnson, 34, of Moreau and formerly of Elmwood Park, N.J., passed away on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008.

Born on July 2, 1974, in Hackensack, N.J., he was the son of William and Cynthia (Smalls) Johnson.

Bill was a graduate of Elmwood Park High School and continued his education at Passaic Community College.

Richard D. Chase
BROADALBIN - Richard D. Chase, 60, of Rebisz Road, Broadalbin, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.

He was born in Amsterdam on Feb. 6, 1948, a son of Emmett and Lena Kenyon Chase and was a 1966 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Dick was a lifelong area resident.

He was employed at Zimmons Services in Albany. Dick also worked periodically for Midway Auto in Broadalbin as a handyman.

Dr. David L. Hoffman
ROCHESTER, Minn. - Dr. David Hoffman, 87, a retired Mayo Clinic physician, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Charter House, of progressive Alzheimer's dementia.

David Hoffman was born June 26, 1921, in Worchester, Mass. He attended Bancroft School, Deerfield Academy, and Dartmouth College, graduating magna cum laude in 1943.

He married Beverly Elinor Rich of Manchester, N.H. in 1944.

George "Johnny" Nokes
TOWN OF MOREAU - George "Johnny" Nokes, of Fort Edward Road, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, while visiting his daughter and son-in-law in St. Peters, Mo. He was 69 years old.

Born on Dec. 9, 1938, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Securo) Nokes.

After graduating from Glens Falls High School, Johnny enlisted in the Air Force where he served as an Airman A/2C from 1956 until 1960 and spending most of his career stationed in North Africa.

Winifred A. Zbozanski
QUEENSBURY - Winifred A. Zbozanski, 85, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Arrangements are pending under the direction of Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

Armand J. "Gordy" Gordon
WARRENSBURG - Armand J. "Gordy" Gordon, 70, of Countryside Adult Home, Warrensburg, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital with his family at his side after a two-year battle with lung cancer.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

George F. Butterfield
SHUSHAN - George F. Butterfield, 94, of Shushan passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2008.

Arrangements are pending with McClellan Funeral Services 19 East Broadway, Salem, N.Y.

Jeffrey L. Stoddard
GRANVILLE - Jeffrey L. Stoddard, 52, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 8, 2008, after a long battle with cancer.

Jeffrey was born Sept. 5, 1956, in Cambridge, N.Y. He was the youngest son of Wayne and Irene Stoddard of Granville, N.Y.

After graduating from Granville High School, Jeffrey joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served for eight years including time in Europe and Korea. He completed his time in the Air Force as a staff sergeant. Jeffrey was a current member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed spending his time woodworking and refinishing old furniture. He also loved working in his vegetable garden.

Mark David Swirsky
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Mark David Swirsky, 67, of the 3500 block of Terrazzo Trail, passed away Sept. 12, 2008 in his home.

Mark was born in Bronx, N.Y. on March 9, 1941 to the late Sam and Lillian (Poretz) Swirsky.

He was a beloved brother of Francine and a devoted son.
