Dorothy Lowry

BAINBRIDGE — Dorothy Lowry, 92, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, April 1, 2002, at her home.

She was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Otego, the daughter of Ruth and George Emerson.

On March 4, 1931, she married Marshall Lowry in Harpursville. He predeceased her on April 24, 1974.

She was a graduate of the Mount Upton Central School and attended Oneonta State Normal.

Mrs. Lowry was a longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and a 60-year member of the Bainbridge and Afton O.E.S.

She also served the town election, village election and the school election boards for several years.

She was a longtime member of the Woman's Club.

Mrs. Lowry retired from E.C.D. of Bendix after 25 years of service.

She is survived by niece, Marian Cook of Norwich; and several grand nieces and nephews; longtime care providers, Deborah Hall of Afton and Mary Joslyn of Afton.

She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Benedict.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, 2002, at St. Peters' Episcopal Church in Bainbridge at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mother Linda King Watkins officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peters' Episcopal Church or Greenlawn Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc. of Sidney.

Sandra Lee McKever

MARGARETVILLE — Sandra Lee McKever, 57, of Margaretville, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Margaretville.

Sandy was loved and will be missed by her many friends and family.

She was born Aug. 15, 1944, in Glen Falls, the daughter of Frank Boynton and Sylvia Archard.

She married Vincent McKever on Aug. 7, 2000, she was previously married to John George Hoffman III.

Sandy, in May of 2000, received the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior.

For the past 20 years she has been employed at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital working as a licensed practical nurse and a registered nurse. She has been an EMT on the ambulance squad and an ER and charge nurse at the hospital.

She has lived in Margaretville for 20 years moving from Glen Falls.

She was a member of Advent Christian Church in Margaretville.

She has a bird collection of cardinals and enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was a member of the Margaretville Amateur Radio Club. Her call sign was WB2IGA.

She graduated from Glen Falls High School and her nursing degree from State University College of Technology at Delhi.

She is survived by her husband, Vincent McKever of Margaretville; mother, Sylvia (Boynton) Varney of South Glen Falls; two daughters, Jeanette Ann Davis of Waterloo, Iowa, and Joan Lucille  Johnson of Margaretville; one son, John George Hoffman IV of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Dan G. Boynton of South Glen Falls and Leon Boynton of Lacey, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 4, 2002, at 8:30 p.m. at the Advent Christian Church in Margaretville, with the Rev. S. Hayden Walsh, assisted by the Rev. Mike Davis, officiating.

Committal services will be private.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville, and from 7 p.m. until service time at 8:30 p.m. at the Advent Christian Church in Margaretville.

Contributions in memory of Sandra Lee McKever may be made to the Margaretville Memorial Hospital Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home of Margaretville.

Robert J. Swadey

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio — Robert J. Swadey, 75, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 1, 2002, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, N.Y., after a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 7, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of John George and Florence (Wolke) Swadey.

Due to ill health Mr. Swadey has been in the Oneonta, N.Y., area so as to be close to his daughter and son-in-law, Jennie Loh Langdon and Greg Langdon and their daughter, Xandry.

Those who wish may call at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, at 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002, when the family will be in attendance. A prayer service will be offered at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, officiating.

On Monday evening, April 8, 2002, there will be a memorial service offered at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Judy Quarles, pastor, officiating.

There will be calling hours at the Schultie, Mahon and Murphy Funeral Home in Lyndhurst, Ohio, with a Mass of Christian burial at the Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, at a later date.

Augustine J. Fazio

UNADILLA — Augustine "Gus" J. Fazio, 65, of Unadilla, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday evening, April 2, 2002, at his home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1937, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Agostino and Anna (Bucolla) Fazio.

He was married to Kathleen Mary Valentine on Dec. 3, 1960, in Morris.

He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958.

Gus was employed as an auto mechanic for the former Stilson Brother's service station in Unadilla, a self-employed trucker and a mechanic for Catskill Tractor, Inc., of Franklin.

He loved nature and the outdoors, was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking.

He will be remembered by his friends and family as the ultimate handyman.

Gus is survived by his wife, Kathleen Mary Fazio, of Unadilla; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Sandra Fazio of Unadilla; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Kate) and Kevin Theobald of Holly Springs, N.C., and daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Davy; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Bonnie Fazio of Sarasota, Fla., Anthony and Jeri Fazio of Sarasota, Fla., and Joseph and Joan Fazio of Schenectady; his sisters, Frances Wilson of Sarasota, Fla., and Anna Lonstein of Brattleboro, Vt.; his grandchildren, Timothy, Jeffrey and Andrew Fazio, Cameron Theobald, Michaela, Joshua and Adam Davy; also several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Jerome and Michael Fazio; and a sister, Theresa Letizia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, with the Rev. Gordon A. Polenz, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be later in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

Friends may call at their convenience after 3 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Westcott Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Albert G. Hall

STAMFORD — Calling hours for Albert G. Hall, 84, of Stamford, who died Monday, April 1, 2002, are today (Thursday) from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Stamford with interment to follow in the Stamford Cemetery.

Matthew Keene

PITTSFIELD — Matthew "Matt" Andrew Keene, 14 years, of Pittsfield, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002.

He was born Feb. 27, 1988, in Cooperstown, the son of Guy and Claudia Keene.

He spent his childhood in the Pittsfield area.

He attended Unadilla Valley Middle School.

He is survived by his parents, Guy and Claudia Keene; three sisters, Beth Keene, Lynn DeForest and Heather Rings; three brothers, Patrick, Aaron and Ryan Keene; and two nieces and four nephews.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts. At Unadilla Valley School he was a member of the Soccer Team, Jr. Honor Society and the Wrestling Team.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler, pastor, officiating.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 5, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Emergency Squad, New Berlin, NY 13411.

Arthur J. Morrell

SCHENEVUS — Arthur John Morrell, 82, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.

He was previously of Ridge Road, Schenevus, and for the last six years has lived with his daughter, Peggy Collins on Dickson Road in Schenevus.

He was born July 19, 1919, at home in Worcester, the son of Dorwin and Tilly (Morell) Morrell.

Mr. Morrell married Alfredia J. Moxham on Sept. 2, 1940, in Worcester.

He was a lifelong area resident, residing in Schenevus for the past 54 years.

Mr. Morrell worked at Timberland Products in Stamford, retiring in 1974. He also ran his own farm his entire life.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1995; several brothers and sisters; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.

He is survived by a son, Carl Morrell and companion, Michelle of Maryland; three daughters, Beatrice and husband, George Wahl of Newark Valley, Marie and husband, Harry Fries of Fonda and Peggy and husband, Bob Collins of Schenevus; a sister, Dorothy Joyce of Virginia; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one special bundle of joy on the way; also several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his sidekick, Mikey.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the funeral home, the time will be announced in Friday's paper.

Burial will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, NY 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Anne V. Pardee

SIDNEY — Anne V. Pardee died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, of complications from pneumonia at The Hospital in Sidney. She was 90.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Jacqueline Bouvier Pardee of Sidney; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and William Hooper Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Antoinette Bond; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband of 42 years, Henry Spencer Pardee, died in 1975.

Friends may call at the C.H. Landers Funeral Home, on Friday, April 5, 2002, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be sent to The Hospital, Sidney NY 13838.

Robert J. Swadey

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio — Robert J. Swadey, 75, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 1, 2002, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, N.Y., with his family at his side, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 7, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of John George and Florence (Wolke) Swadey.

Due to ill health, Mr. Swadey has been in the Oneonta, N.Y., area so as to be close to his daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie Loh Langdon and Greg Langdon and their daughter, Xandry.

Mr. Swadey was first married to Eileen Mary Serschen on July 14, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio. She died Aug. 12, 1959. Later, he was married to Mary Jeanne Dwyer on Feb. 9, 1973, in Cleveland, Ohio. She died May 18, 1999.

He was a staff sergeant in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He was stationed in Okinawa and US Occupied Japan following World War II and worked as geodetic surveyor in the posthostilities mapping program.

A graduate of Cathedral Latin High School and John Carroll University, he earned his law degree from Ohio State University College of Law with the Class of 1950.

In 1951, he entered into a law partnership, which later became the firm of Hahn, Swadey & Roth.

He was President and Chairman of the Board of Midland Title Security, Inc., which he founded in 1955, and was Regional Vice-President and a Director of First American Title Insurance Company of Santa Ana,  Calif. Midland Title now has 30 offices throughout Ohio,  West Virginia and Kentucky, and presently employs over 400 people.

He was also a licensed real estate broker and real estate instructor.

Mr. Swadey served as a Director of Mount Alverna Nursing Home in Parma, Ohio, for which he was a dedicated fund-raiser. He was a past Director of the Ohio Bar Title Insurance Company and a former Trustee of the Ohio Land Title Association, which recognized him as an Honorary Life Member.

He was a benefactor of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association of Northeast Ohio, the American Cancer Society, the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, University Hospitals Health System (Cleveland), Hopewell House (Mesopotamia, Ohio), John Carroll University and the Ohio State University College of Law.

He was a member of the Cuyahoga Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Ohio Land Title Association, the American Land Title Association and the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity.

He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe and was an avid reader of American and World History, with a particular interest in the Civil War, Germany and the Orient.

He was devoted to his family, friends and employees, impacting their lives with his honesty and generosity. A lover of baseball, he was a loyal Cleveland Indians fan.

He is survived by one daughter, Jeannie Loh Langdon and her husband, Greg Langdon of Oneonta; a son, Richard Swadey of Cleveland, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Donna Ozmon of Cleveland; and one stepson, Thomas Vacca and his wife, Judy Vacca of Cleveland, Ohio; two loving sisters, Mary Alice Armishaw and Katherine Adams, both of Locust Grove, Va.; a brother, John Swadey of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren, Xandry Langdon of Oneonta, Scott Elkins and his wife, Patricia, Mark Vacca and his wife, Grace and Cari Vacca, all of Cleveland, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony and Emily Elkins and Abigail Vacca of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Hunt; and two brothers-in-law, William Armishaw and Robert Adams.

Patricia J. Wlasiuk

OXFORD — Patricia J. Wlasiuk, 35, of Oxford, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born Feb. 19, 1967, in Lakenheath, England, to William Schoonmaker and Joyce Rosa.

Patty married Peter Wlasiuk on Oct. 1, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Patricia was a registered nurse at The Hospital in Sidney.

She is survived by her husband, Peter Wlasiuk, Oxford; son, William Schoonmaker, Bainbridge; three daughters, Ashlee, Jolynn and Rebecca Wlasiuk of Oxford; mother, Joyce Cardozo, Bainbridge; grandmother, Florence Rosa; brothers, Manny, Bill and Jerome; sisters, Wendy, Laurie, Lisa and Joanne; 12 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 7, 2002, at 3 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Linda King Watkins of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, officiating.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford, Guilford, Bainbridge and Mount Upton Emergency squads.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.
