Louise R. Brundage

WALTON — Louise Ruth Brundage, of Walton, died on June 5, 2002, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. She was 87.

Mrs. Brundage worked as a seamstress from her home for 50 plus years.

She was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Oneonta, to Ira and Lina Briggs Evans, and graduated from Oneonta High School in 1932.

On Nov. 7, 1937 she married Maurice Brundage at the Oneonta Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brundage lived in Walton for the past 57 years. Before that she lived in Oneonta.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, W.S.C.S. and sang in the church choir.

Mrs. Brundage will be remembered for all the cookies she made for family and friends, and for her sewing which included everything from cheerleading outfits to minister's robes and wedding dresses.

She is survived by her husband of over 64 years, Maurice; her son, Earl; and granddaughter, Deborah.

Family members who died earlier include two sisters and a brother.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2002, at Lyon Bros.-Way Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, where family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Walton United Methodist Church in her name would be appreciated.

Stanley J. Malecki

OTEGO — Stanley J. Malecki Jr. died June 2, 2002 at home after a lengthy bout with cancer.

He was born March 23, 1936, in Freeport, the son of Stanley and Anna (Golon) Malecki.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara A. Malecki, nee Gearrity, on June 1, 2002.

He is survived by five children, Edward Malecki, James Malecki, Elizabeth Griffin, Amy Malecki and Robert Malecki; a son-in-law, Charles Griffin; and a daughter-in-law, Darla Malecki; seven grandchildren, Amanda Malecki, Jessica Griffin, Joseph Malecki, Alyssa Griffin, Kyle and Kacey Malecki and Caitlin Griffin.

He is also survived by his sisters, Sally Tirrell and Linda Livi; and a brother, Howard Malecki; his sisters-in-law, Joanne Braun, Judith Cashman, Patricia Gearrity and Maureen Gearrity; his brothers-in-law, Robert Tirrell, Frank Livi, Robert Braun, Edward Gearrity, Gerard Gearrity, David Cashman and Thomas Gearrity; and many other loving family members.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served during the Korean War. He was a long-standing member of the American Legion Cathedral Post 1087.

He retired from the Town of Hempstead Sanitary District 6.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Judith Thistle officiating.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Barbara A. Malecki

OTEGO — Barbara A. Malecki, nee Gearrity, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at home after a lengthy bout with cancer.

She was born June 12, 1942, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Bardong) Gearrity.

She was married to Stanley J. Malecki Jr., who followed her in death on June 2, 2002.

She is survived by five children, Edward Malecki, James Malecki, Elizabeth Griffin, Amy Malecki and Robert Malecki; a son-in-law, Charles Griffin; and a daughter-in-law, Darla Malecki; seven grandchildren, Amanda Malecki, Jessica Griffin, Joseph Malecki, Alyssa Griffin, Kyle and Kacey Malecki and Caitlin Griffin.

She is also survived by her sisters, Joanne Braun, Judith Cashman; her brothers, Edward, Gerard and Thomas Gearrity; her sisters-in-law, Patricia and Maureen Gearrity, Sally Tirrell and Linda Livi; her brothers-in-law, Robert Braun, David Cashman, Robert Tirrell, Frank Livi and Howard Malecki; and many other loving family members.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Judith Thistle officiating.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Richard J. Murphy

INDIAN HILLS,  Colo. — Mr. Richard James Dick Murphy, 61, a former Hobart resident, passed away on May 26, 2002, losing the battle with cancer.

Dick lived in the Hobart area before moving to Denver,  Colo., about 28 years ago. He graduated from S.K.C.S.

He joined the Navy for four years, working on a Sub Tender, doing underwater diving. After his honorable discharge and getting home, he went on to Long Haul Trucking, construction work, mechanics, really "Jack of all things."

In Colorado, the last number of years Dick was Master Supervisor of a very large Estate in the Foothills of the Rockies.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Susan; two daughters, Kate of Indian Hills,  Colo., and Jesse of Indian Hills; one son, Jared in Pusan, Korea. Also surviving are four brothers and one sister and spouses, Thomas L. and Margarethe Murphy of West Winfield, N.Y., John P. Murphy of Charlotte, N.C., Dennis M. and Gloria Murphy of Littleton,  Colo., Jerry R. Murphy of Fort Mill, S.C., and Margaret and Rod Hillis of Hobart, N.Y.; and many, many loving nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his "Mom," Rosemary Murphy in October 1975.

Dick loved his family and all his many friends. It meant so much to know they were there for him.

A lovely memorial service was held on June 1, 2002, at Sheppard Hills Lutheran Church in Littleton,  Colo.

Linda P. Coleman

MERIDALE — Linda P. Coleman, 59, of Meridale, passed away on Monday night, June 3, 2002, at Cabrini Medical Center Hospice, New York City.

The daughter of Irving and Kate (Zucker) Friedman, she was born April 22, 1943 in Brooklyn, was a graduate of Jamaica High School and the Fashion Institute of Technology.

A childrenswear buyer for Frederick Atkins in earlier years, Linda also had a great appreciation for antiques and subsequently was a self-employed antiques dealer for 25 years.

Though living most of her life in New York City, Linda maintained a home in Meridale since 1987, was an avid collector of vernacular photography, a keen landscaper and flower gardener, possessed a lifelong passion for horses, to which she was totally devoted, and also actively participated in her daughter's equestrian involvement.

Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Gene R. Coleman; and daughter, Heather Coleman of Meridale; her mother, Kate Friedman, Margate, Fla.; two sisters, Vicki Kay, New York City, and Ann Xavier, Warwick, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, June 7, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance after 1 p.m., and services will be conducted at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Judith L. Quarles, with burial following in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridale.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet & Son, Delhi.

Julie V. Muth

SCHODACK LANDING — Julie V. (Vergari) Muth, 48, of Schodack Landing, died at her home on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Carbondale, Pa., the daughter of Anne (Arthur) Vergari of Oneonta and the late Frank Vergari.

She graduated with Cum Laude honors from State University College at Potsdam in 1975, and became a systems programmer with New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services in Albany.

She was the beloved wife of 26 years, of Ross E. Muth, married Oct. 16, 1976; devoted mother of Allison M. Muth; and a son, Aaron F. Muth, all of Schodack Landing. She was the sister of Doreen Raym of Oneonta, Debbie Oliverio of Putner Valley and Frank P. Vergari of Oneonta. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral at 7 p.m. on Thursday from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family has also requested that those who wish to remember Julie make contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas,  Texas 75265-0309 or Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Rd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.

Hilda C. Villecco

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Hilda C. Villecco, 85, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 at Regents Park in Jacksonville, Fla.

She was a longtime resident of Sidney, N.Y., until June 1998, when she went to live with her daughter in Jacksonville, Fla.

Hilda was born Aug. 30, 1916, in Nineveh, N.Y., the daughter of George Ruben and Nellie (Scott) Smith.

She married Anthony Villecco on May 1, 1935. Her husband predeceased her on June 11, 2001.

Hilda is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Hugh Doyle of Jacksonville, Fla.; a nephew, Harrison K. Smith of Sidney, N.Y.; a niece, Laurel N. Schrull of Shelby, Ala.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2002, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, N.Y., with the Rev. David Masland officiating. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Sidney Fire Police or the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Ruth E. Lockwood

NEW BERLIN — Ruth E. Lockwood, 80 years, of New Berlin, passed away June 5, 2002, in New Berlin.

She was born July 25, 1921, in Steuben, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Reese) Lockwood.

She spent her childhood in the West Edmeston area.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Crossman of New Berlin; a dear friend, Martha Manson; and her lovable dog, "Bear."

She was a member of the Columbus Community Church, town of Columbus.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2002, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Stephen Reese of the Columbus Community Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the West Edmeston Cemetery, West Edmeston.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002, proceeding the funeral at the Dakin Funeral Home.

Robin L. Thomas

MARYLAND — Robin L. Thomas, 43, of Maryland, went to meet the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2002, in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born on Nov. 15, 1958, in Oneonta, the daughter of James and Mary (Bishop) Bender.

She was a 1976 graduate of Schenevus Central School.

Robin had a passion for the arts. Her talent and creativity led her to a job at The Daily Star, where she enjoyed working in the classified and graphics department for 12 years.

Robin enjoyed her many trips to Maine, gourmet cooking, arts and crafts, gardening, chocolate and was a master in home improvements.

She dedicated her life to the Lord on Feb. 10, 2002, and was a member of the Word of Faith Fellowship, where she faithfully served the Lord until the Lord took her home.

She married Ralph Thomas on Dec. 20, 1977.

Robin is survived by her parents, James and Mary Bender of Maryland; her husband, Ralph Thomas, and their sons, Jason of Orlando, Fla., James and Julie Brown and daughter, Alexis Paige Thomas, of Delano, Minn.; and daughters, Sarah and Liesha of Maryland; a brother, David and his wife, Jackie Bender; and their children, Hannah, Jachin, Samuel, Ruth and Zoe of Manlius; a sister, Tracy Bender and fiancee, Allen Retallick, and their son, Zachary, of Franklin; a sister, Kelly and her husband, David Morris, and their children, Kyle, Tyler and Mekenzi of Maryland; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, John and Alice Bender; and Arthur and Grace Bishop.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2002, where the family will be in attendance. Pastor Frank MacCracken Jr. will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2002, at the Word of Faith Fellowship, Maryland.

Burial will follow in the Schenevus Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, the American Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Arrangements are entrusted to Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
