Robert E. Roos

ALBANY — Father Robert E. Roos, 75, of Albany, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, after an extended illness.

He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Frank and Katherine Purcell Roos.

He was a graduate of Vincentian Institute, Siena College and Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure.

Father was ordained to Priesthood on June 12, 1954. Father was first assigned to St. Agnes Church in Cohoes and served as Chaplain at Albany Medical Center and the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy. His ministries included Catholic Central High School as a Guidance Counselor, Chaplain of St. Colman's Home in Watervliet, Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Albany, St. Mary's Church in Oneonta, St. Catherine's Church, Middleburgh, St. Lucy's Church in Altamont and Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Father was also a coordinator of the Inner City Ministry in Albany, Chancellor for the Albany Diocese and Pyramid Life Center Spiritual Director and Retreat Presenter.

He is survived by his brothers, the Rev. John R. Roos of Cobleskill, also Joseph F. Roos and wife, Ann, of East Syracuse. He is the uncle of Joseph Roos and wife, Jennifer, and their son, Ryan, of East Syracuse. Many dear cousins and friends also survive.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Saint Clare in Colonie by the Most Rev. Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop of Albany. The Reception of the Body will be on Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. Lucy's Church in Altamont with viewing to follow until 7 p.m. Vespers will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. Lucy's Church.

Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Anna Louise McKeon

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Anna Louis McKeon, 89, of Blacksburg, Va., went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003.

She was born June 1, 1914, in Greenport and lived on Walnut Street in Cooperstown for 11 years from 1982 to 1993, during which time she attended the Main Street Baptist Church in Oneonta.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Evelyn McKeon of Blacksburg, Dave and Lorrie McKeon of Syracuse; daughter-in-law, Joyce McKeon of Sour Lake, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Janis Hulse of East Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Ella S. Hulse and her husband, William Goldsmith McKeon and son, William James McKeon.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with her sons officiating.

Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg.

The McKeon family is being served by Horne Funeral and Cremation Service, 1300 North Franklin St., Christiansburg, Va.

Pamela D. Persons

COOPERSTOWN — Pamela D. Persons, 68, of Cooperstown, passed away Oct. 4, 2003, at her home, after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 24, 1935, in Ossining, a daughter of Jean Sniffen Dean and William Dean, both of whom are deceased.

She married Lynn R. Persons Jr. on Jan. 8, 1953, in the Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

She helped operate the family farm on the Hartwick-Index Road. Following that she worked at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home and then at The Otesega Hotel until she retired in 1997.

She was a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a strong-willed and good-hearted person who always cared about others. She loved spending time with her family. She liked traveling and country music.

She is survived by her three children, Marvin and his wife, Debbie (Bowen), Persons, of Sellersville, Pa., Kathy (Persons) and her husband, Lance, MacGregor of Hartwick, and Debbie (Persons) Hanes of Cooperstown; two sisters and one brother, Patricia Jensen of Florida, Joan and her husband, Tony, Fiorito of Florida, and E. William Dean and his wife, Pearl, of Scotia; six grandchildren, Sarah Hillegass and her husband, Jeremy, Nathan and Christopher Persons, Scott MacGregor, and Katie Sellick and her husband, David, and Tennille Raymer; two great-grandsons, David A. Sellick and Kyle Hillegass; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy, in the form of memorial gifts, may be given to a children's charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcox-Dimbleby Funeral Home in West Winfield.

Herbert F. Miller

MESA, Ariz. — The Rev. Herbert Frank Miller, 77, died peacefully at Springdale West Health Center on Sept. 2, 2003.

Born in Oneonta, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Jane (Daniels) Miller.

He attended Laurens Central School and graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary in 1951.

He was the former pastor of churches in Westville, Toddsville, Depew, Hanover Center and other locations in New York.

He was later employed by Ward Hydraulics and Scott Aviation in western New York before relocating to Mesa in 1984, where he had worked in a machine shop, with a pest control service and as a security guard at a number of locations.

He is the loving husband of 19 years of Marjorie (Morgan) Miller. He is the beloved father of Sally Miller and Marjorie Dennin (David); brother of Kathrine Kimmey (William) and the late Gladys Harrison (Merton); dear step-father of Richard Morgan (Bea), Joan Smith (David), Don Morgan (Joyce), Kathy Snider (Jerry) and Thomas Morgan. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-nieces and -nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine (Kline) Miller, in 1982.

Harry K. Miller

AFTON — Harry K. Miller, 88, of Afton and formerly of Los Osos, Calif., passed away at home with his family on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003.

He was born Oct. 10, 1914, son of the late Harry K. and Harriett (McGill) Miller in Los Angeles.

Harry married Marjorie Neal on Nov. 15, 1937, in Los Angeles.

Mr. Miller was a captain in the Los Angeles County Fire Department when he retired in 1968.

He loved to tinker with electronics and new technology, especially computers as well as his HAM radio, with which he was still licensed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marjorie Miller, Afton; daughters and sons-in-law, Harriett Emily (Terry) and Ron Bogert, Afton, Karin Eggleston, Bainbridge, and Diane and Wayne Kaspar, Atascadero, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Dominique Miller, Templeton, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Laurie Smalley, Ronald K. Bogert, Leslie Cunningham, Melissa Tanner, Jonathan Bogert, Glenn Bogert, Dale Bogert, Diana Bogert, Jennifer Bryant and Michael Young; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and best friend, Capt. Jerry Parker, Morro Bay, Calif.

He was also predeceased by two brothers, Leon Miller and Jack Orchard; and a sister, Annette.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, when the family will be in attendance. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Robert Bartlett

MILFORD — Robert Whitley Bartlett passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at his home, The Pines in Milford.

Mr. Bartlett was born in Franklin on March 5, 1943, the son of Robert J. and Margaret May (Whitley) Bartlett. He lived for many years with his parents in Franklin and also at Silver Lake near New Berlin.

Many of his winters were spent in Florida. In his later years, he resided at the Upstate Homes for Children and Adults in Otego and Oneonta.

Robert (Bobby) will be remembered for his sense of humor and his many and varied interests, especially in art projects, animals, television and movies.

Survivors include his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou and Roys Dixon of Bainbridge, and Barbara and Carl Olson of Afton and Beverly Hills, Fla.; his aunt, Pauline Bartlett of Unadilla; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at noon today, Oct. 6, 2003, at the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., 179 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Benjamin Shaw of the North Afton United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the East Sidney Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Joyce Funeral Home Inc. from 11:30 to noon today.

Arrangements are by the Joyce Funeral Home Inc. of Unadilla.

Francis Leo Shaw

NEW HARTFORD — Francis Leo Shaw, 59, of New Hartford, formerly of Oneonta, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, in Utica.

Francis was born Sept. 4, 1944, in Oneonta to Leo D. and Lorena Kouse Shaw. While living in Oneonta, he attended the First Baptist Church with his mother.

Francis was an avid baseball fan and collected many baseball cards.

He was a loving and kind man and was respected and loved by those that helped care for him.

Francis is survived by an aunt, Pauline Shaw of Binghamton; and cousins, Theresa Shaw of Delhi, Paul and Joyce Shaw of Delhi, Dorothy Shaw of Sidney, Mary Shaw of Florida, George and Betty Blanchard of Bainbridge, Paul and Elke Shaw and Peter and Rita Shaw, all of Binghamton.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, by the Rev. William Lang, with a visiting period from noon until service time. Interment will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

James G. Wilson

ONEONTA — Mr. James "Jim" G. Wilson of Oneonta, 68 years old, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at home with his family present.

He was born on May 24, 1935, in Olean, the son of Gerrett F. and Josephine H. (Boser) Wilson.

Mr. Wilson married Judy Booth on Aug. 29, 1959, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Olean.

He served in the United States Navy from 1955-1958.

He is a graduate of Allegany Central School in 1953.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson lived in Olean, and then Alfred, while Mr. Wilson attended college there and graduated in May 1961.

He started work with New York State Electric and Gas Corporation in June 1961, in Liberty. The Wilsons came to Oneonta in 1965. Mr. Wilson worked for NYSEG for 33 years, retiring in 1994, as the supervisor of technical services in the Oneonta office.

He was a member of New York State Electric and Gas Employees Association. Mr. Wilson had been a member of both the BPOE No. 1312 of Oneonta and the Oneonta Sportsman Club until recently. He was a member o f the Tin Can Sailors of Oneonta.

His interests and hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Mr. Wilson was a very devoted family man.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Judy Wilson, at home; daughter, Kim Elizabeth Wilson of New Lisbon; son and daughter-in-law, David James and Susan Wilson of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandsons, Andrew David and Thomas Jackson Wilson of Greensboro, N.C.; sister, Joann Rozemond of Atlanta, Ga.; aunts and uncles, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson, James Robert Wilson; and two sisters, Dorothy and Kay Wilson.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the Elm Park United Methodist Church in Oneonta. The memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at the church with Ms. Allison Bookhout, Chaplain of Catskill Area Hospice, Oneonta, officiating.

Mr. Wilson's remains will be buried at the Allegany Cemetery in Allegany.

Those who wish may make contributions, in lieu of flowers, to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

James W. Parker

BELMONT, Ohio — James William Parker, 73, of Belmont, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Park Health Care Center St. Clairsville.

He was born March 5, 1930, in Belmont, a son of the late Henry Wayne Parker and Clara Mae Davis Parker.

Jim was a Protestant, a veteran serving in the Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.

He attended Kent State and received his bachelor's degree from Muskingum College, and his master's from Ohio State University. In 1985, he retired from State University of New York, Delhi, where he served as a coach, teacher, guidance counselor, registrar and director of the student career center.

Jim was an avid golfer, and gardener, he loved woodworking and building furniture, he also built several houses, he was a former member of the American Legion, and Hazen Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of Susan, Elsie Virginia Parker, a grandson, Bryant Joseph LaFever, and a nephew, Arik Parker.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Donna Jean Dyer Parker; two daughters, Susan (Mark) LaFever of Sherburne, and Lisa (Jeff) Watters of Lewis Center, Ohio; two sons, Fred (Trish) Parker of Brownsburg, Ind., and James William Parker Jr. (Lynn) of Hillard, Ohio; four granddaughters, Kristina LaFever, Samantha Parker, Ashley Parker and Cheyanne Parker; five grandsons, Dustin Parker, Kyle LaFever, Brian McEnaney, Benjamin Watters and Dylanger Parker; three brothers, Wayne D. (Betty) Parker and Larry (Alexa) Parker, all of Belmont, and Jerry (Sharon) Parker of Grand Island, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, 322 North Main St., Bethesda, where services will he held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Minister Val Roxby officiating. Burial follows in Belmont Cemetery.
