McGLINCHEY Lena "Lee" Gertrude Adcock Stoneburner McGlinchey. Date of Birth November 17, 1921. Date of Death March 10, 2001. Lee McGlinchey was granted the gift of eternal life on March 10, 2001. She made her transition peacefully, during a sunny afternoon after an extended battle with cancer of the brain. Until the last days of her life, she would entertain those around her with her good humor even as her short-term memory would leave her stranded. She was proud to have been an elementary school teacher for the Columbus Public Schools, spending the bulk of her career at Linden Elementary. She also was proud to have attended Ohio University and to be a graduate of Capital University. She loved children, teaching, her family, and many friends, both here in Ohio and in Sarasota Florida where she lived with her husband, Dick McGlinchey, for about 10 years. She was able to enjoy many years of retirement, traveling all over the country with her husband, in their motorhome, often driving in caravan with her sister JoAnne and her brother-in-law, Bob Bateman. She was a devout Christian, a very active member of St. James United Methodist Church in Sarasota and a regular attendee of the services at Woodside Retirement Community provided by Central College Presbyterian Church, with Glenn Cummings leading the worship each week. She was predeceased by her stepfather and mother, Oscar and Grace Blum, her father, Robert Adcock, her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Rose Adcock. Her first husband, C.B. "Stoney" Stoneburner and her second husband Richard "Dick" McGlinchey. She is survived by her son, Jack Stoneburner and his wife, Laura. their children Joshua (and wife, Michelle), Julia and Luke Stoneburner. She is also survived by her step-son, Michael McGlinchey and his wife Julie, as well as her step-daughter, Diane McGlinchey. She is also survived by her sisters Mary K. Keck, JoAnne Bateman (husband Bob), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a resident of Woodside Village in Columbus Ohio for the last three years. She was cared for lovingly and professionally by the assisted-living staff of Woodside. Jean Brown, Trevor Dyce and their entire staff are to be acknowledged and commended for their efforts, especially these past eight months during the progression of the cancer. The quality of Lee's life was enhanced and lengthened by the personal care provided by Jenny Kin (and her young daughter Nova, who actually sat down long enough for mom to read a whole book to her); by Joyce Bishop (and her young daughter Cecelia, who loved to tease and argue with "Grandma Lee"); to Debbie Barry, who gave up many nights of sound sleep (Thanks Micah, for lending me your mom); and to Louise Fields and Pauline Huntzinger, who were so attentive to mom on the weekends. They all worked hard together to care for mom, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for these past eight months, allowing her to stay in her apartment where she felt secure and comfortable in the familiar atmosphere of her home. My mother and I thank you for your service. All of you are gifts from God for us. I would have been completely lost without you. Thank you for your commitment and loyalty through these past months. Those who knew Lee, knew that she lived an active life in spite of the constant pain of arthritis. Instead of a wheelchair by 30, as doctor's had predicted, she was learning to water-ski at 40 and bellydance at 50, with travel into her 60's and 70's. Her life was one of courage, generosity, and inspiration. She will be missed by many, although she told us all many times, "Do not grieve for me when I die, I will be with those that I love and in no pain any longer." Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, Columbus, where family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13, 2001 6-8 p.m. Interment Alton Cemetery.
