BARICH Dewey F. Barich, Ed.D., passed away February 9 at his home in Green Valley, Ariz. Dewey was born February 19, 1911, in Chisholm, Minn. He married the former Verna Eddy December 29, 1934. Dewey holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, an M.A. from the University of Michigan, and an Ed.D. from Wayne State University. Dewey taught industrial arts in Flint and Trenton, Mich. He later taught at Central Michigan University and Kent State University. In WW II, he served in the U.S. Navy during the liberation of the Philippines. After the war, Dewey took up silversmithing. In 1951, he became manager of educational affairs of the Ford Motor Co. In 1958, Dewey was named president of the Detroit Institute of Technology. As DIT's president, Dewey guided it from being a part of the YMCA to being a private college. Dewey and Verna moved to Tucson, Ariz., in 1976 and to Green Valley in 1995. Dewey was a member of Rotary and the Episcopal Church. Surviving Dewey are his wife, Verna; a brother, Sam and his wife, Shirley; four children, Judy Robinson, Dewey Jay Barich and his wife, Jaye, Barbara Panian and Wendy deBear and her husband, Richard; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceding him were his parents, his sister Sava and 3 brothers Luka, Steve and Garrott. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dewey's life will be held at 1 p.m. February 19 at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Parish in Green Valley. Remembrances should be made to: Stout University Foundation, P.O. Box 790, Menomonie, WI 54751. Funds should be directed to the Dewey and Garrott Barich Scholarship.

BAUER Alveta Bauer, 94, of St. Simons Island, Ga., February 7, 2001. Longtime resident of Gahanna, Oh. Preceded in death by husband Carl Bauer. Alveta is survived by her children, son, Carl F. (Hilaire) Bauer and daughter, Suzanne Bauer of St. Simons Island, Ga.; granddaughter, Cherie Abdallah; great-grandsons, Khalid and Shukri of Grapevine, Tex. Memorial Service at Peace Lutheran Church, Gahanna on Saturday, February 17, 10 a.m. Interment following at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Gahanna, Oh. or the local Hospice Chapter.

BAYLOR Rosie Bell Baylor, 87, Monday, February 12, 2001, Mt. Carmel West. Member Kingdom Of Jehovah Witnesses. Preceded in death by husband Lewis Baylor, daughter Annie B. Gatewood, 4 brothers, 2 sisters. Survived by sons, Hill (Cleo) Baylor of Cleveland, OH and Bobby L. (Dorothy) Gatewood of Columbus; sisters, Annie B. Ward and Lillian McGhee both of MI, Carolyn J. Dixon of IL, Rosie Hunt of MO; 7 grandchildren, including granddaughter, Lillian J. Winston of Cleveland, OH; 17 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Services 11 a.m. Friday, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 1401 Brown Rd. BOWERS Joseph F. "Joe" Bowers, age 87, of Columbus, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Joe retired in 1978 from Moore Business Forms, Inc., where he was a Sales Representative for 44 years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, WW II. Survived by wife, G. Jane Bowers; daughters, Cynthia J. Bowers of Columbus and Jane A. Bowers of Sackets Harbor, N.Y.; step-daughters, Marsha (Richard) Young and Lisa Gannon, both of Westerville; step-grandchildren, Matthew Young, Marisa Young, Lauren Gannon, Marcey Gannon, Brett Gannon and Jillian Zahumensky; brothers, Russell (Cam) Bowers of Sebastian, Fla. and Andrew Bowers of Seattle, Wash. Joe attended Worthington Presbyterian Church and was a member of Dayton Lodge #147, F&AM, Aladdin Temple Shrine, BPOE Lodge #37, Upper Arlington Senior Citizens and a former member of York Golf Club. BUCHSBAUM Robert E. Buchsbaum, age 88, departed this life on January 30, 2001 in the care of hospice, at the home of his son in Dayton, Oh. He was born Christmas Day, December 25, 1912 in Gary, Ind. He was Valedictorian graduate of Emerson High School with advanced degrees in music from the University of Chicago. He was a nationally prominent first oboist in leading symphony orchestras. He founded, conducted and directed the Gary Philharmonic Orchestra, South Shore Music Festival, featuring world-renowned musical artists and co-founded with his wife, Mina, the Columbus, Ohio Symphony Orchestra. Early in his career, he was conductor of several major orchestras including those in Kansas City, Gary and Chicago. In addition to his career in music, Mr. Buchsbaum developed some of the early techniques for sound recording in the early 1940's, many of which are in current use. In 1943 he founded Coronet Recording Co. in Columbus, Oh. to commercialize his techniques. The music he recorded for over 50 years included leading orchestras, nationally renowned soloists, outstanding choral groups, and over 100 college marching bands. His works were popularized and heard by millions through broadcast and other media. His recordings included The Columbus Opera, The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, The Ohio State University Marching Band, Capital University and every leading Big Ten University Band. He was recently recognized at Ohio State for over 45 years of service and made a Lifetime Honorary Member of The Ohio State Marching Band for his musical contributions to the University. He recorded a rare collection of original symphony/opera broadcasts from 1940 to 1946. Some of his recordings are in The Library of Congress. Robert leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Mina; 3 children, Maurice Buchsbaum of Boca Raton, Fla., Sandra Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz. and Dr. Robert Buchsbaum, Jr. of Dayton, Oh. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Ralph Buchsbaum of Pacific G rove, Calif.; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. Memorial service for Mr. Buchsbaum will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 3 p.m. at Kable Chapel inside Kerns Religious Life Center, behind the Blackmore Library on Capital University's main campus on East Main St. in Columbus, Oh. The Chapel is located between College and Pleasant Ridge Aves. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

CHANDLER Dave Allen Chandler, age 62, passed February 9, 2001 at OSU Hospital North. Past employee of the Columbus Public Schools. Established urban day care centers, worked with clergy to aid Columbus homeless families and community shelters for 25 years. Member of Omega Phi Psi, Old Timers Sports League, Fly Town Reunion Committee. Past member of Bethany Baptist Church. A member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Graduate of Central High School, Class of 1956. All City and All State Football, All U.S. Army Football, All NAIA Central State University. Graduate of Central State, Class of 1966 with a degree in Elementary Education. Graduate of The Ohio State University, Master of Arts program and Adult Education, Ph.D Candidate. Lifetime Alumni Association member at O.S.U. Preceded in death by parents Davella Allen and Catherine Rogers Chandler and brother Vincent Chandler. Survived by son, Chaka (Juliet) Chandler; brothers, Wallace and Bobby (Marscha) Chandler; sisters, Vivian C handler and Marguerite Hearns; brother-in-law, Leroy Bennett; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Dr. Jay Cummings, Dr. Greg Thomas, Jack Green, Jeffrey Scott, Art Broadnax, Raymond Stokes and Stanley Craig. CHRISTENSEN Wayne L. Christensen, age 91, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2001 in Louisville, Oh. He was born in Canton, Oh., September 26, 1909 to the late James G. and Emma (Lynch) Christensen. He was retired from the Rust Engineering Co. of Birmingham, Ala., as a Corporate Safety and Health Director. Member of the Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville, Oh., the American Society of Safety Engineers and was a certified safety professional. Preceded in death by wife Mildred A. (Bobbie) Christensen in 1988. Survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Larry Beaver, Jayne C. Hall, all of Louisville, Oh., Mary M. and A.J. Myers of Bexley; son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. and Margaret Christensen of Louisville, Oh.; 14 grandchildren including Amy (Tom) Hoying and Robert Christensen and Stacey Myers, Emily (Anthony) DeLucia, Rion and Kitsy Myers, all of Columbus; 19 great-grandchildren. Service will be Saturday 11 a.m. at the Paradise United Church of C hrist in Louisville, Oh. with Rev. Dr. Kline Roberts, III officiating. DODGE June Denise Dodge, 40, of Columbus, Oh., passed away Saturday in The Ohio State University Hospital. She was born April 30, 1959 in Springfield, Oh., a daughter of Jun and Josephine (Avery) Harris. Mrs. Dodge was a member of the Amethyst Women's Program. She is survived by her loving husband, Keith Dodge; son, Kyle Harris of Columbus; step-son, Keith Dodge of Springfield; brother, Richard Harris of Cincinnati; sister, Cynthia Harris of Los Angeles, Calif.; 2 grandchildren; and a number of nephews, cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Visitation for Mrs. Dodge will be Friday from 7-9 p.m. in the ROBERT C. HENRY FUNERAL HOME, 527 South Center St., Springfield, Oh. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield.

ELLIS Marie Ellis, 90, of Laurelville, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Crestview Manor Nursing Home. She was born April 24, 1910 in Fairfield County, the daughter of the late Hannibal and Martha Fosnaugh Stine. She was a member of the Logan Elm Garden Club and the Plum Runners Homemakers Club. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean (Robert) West of Laurelville; granddaughter, Carol (Ralph) Casto of Galloway; great-granddaughter, Jodelle (Brian) Strassel of Dallas, Ga.; step-great-grandsons, Eric (Tina) Casto of Westerville and Chris Casto of Columbus; great-great-grandsons, Anthony and Joseph Strassel, both of Dallas, Ga.; step-great-great-grandson, Max Casto of Columbus; brother-in-law, Marvin Hartline of Laurelville; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, Amanda with Rev. FITZWATER Roberta Jeanne Fitzwater, age 74, of Plain City, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at her daughter's residence after a brief illness of liver cancer. She was a former head seamstress of Lazarus and the Union Department Stores for over 25 years and was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Worthington. She is survived by her son, Daniel (Lynne) Fitzwater of Carson City, Nevada; daughters, Dianne Fitzwater and Lisa (Rodney) Koon, both of Upper Arlington; her companion of 45 years, George M. Miller of Plain City; grandchildren, Danielle, Dan Jr., Shawna, Lauren, Ryan, Austin, Brittany, Brooke, Bobbie, and Billy; sisters, Carole (Richard) Simpson of Newcomerstown, OH, Lillian (Clyde) Eide of Westerville, OH, and Violet (Glen) Johns of New Albany, OH; former husbands, Neil Bennett and Robert Fitzwater; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Ruth and Ross Husted of Worthington, OH and Maxine Nelson of Upper Arlington. FLEMING Paul Samuel Fleming, age 73, of Orient, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center following a long illness at home. He was a loving husband, father and a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. Preceded in death by parents Gilbert and Delia Fleming, sister Ann Scott, brothers Robert and Carl. Paul is survived by his wife, Norma; son, Paul G. Fleming; daughter, Toby Smith; grandson, Peter J. Fleming; great-granddaughter, Sydney C. Fleming; sisters, Cecile Minnick and Rose Berry. Visitation will be Thursday 5-7 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 2697 Columbus St., Grove City. At Paul's request, he will be cremated.

GILL Frank Gill, age 92, Tuesday, at the residence. Member of St. James the Less Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Lions Club and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #1707. Retired employee of Conrail after 42 years of service. Survived by wife, Margaret Gill; children, Mary Margaret Murnane of Columbus, Frances (C. Thomas) Rodenfels of Fla., Frank (Pam) Gill of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Al) Greshel of Fla.; many nieces and nephews. GOLDEN Sam Golden, of Columbus. He is survived by his sisters, Ada Roth, Sarah Edith Golden and Rose Wigman; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents John and Rachel Golden, sisters Mary Masser, Lillian Golden, Bessie Golden and brothers Louis Golden and David Golden. Graveside service will be held Thursday 1:30 p.m. at the New Agudas Achim Cemetery (corner of Performance Pkwy. and Alum Creek) with Rabbi Cary Kozberg officiating. GOLDSTEIN Jack M. Goldstein, Sr., age 68, passed away suddenly Monday, February 12, 2001. He was a Westerville resident for 34 years where he worked as a Nationwide agent for 27 years. He was a graduate of Groveport High School and The Ohio State University, where he received a Bachelors degree in Business, and was a U.S. Army officer. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Cora (Billups) Goldstein, wife Betty Mae and brother Dr. Harry Goldstein. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; son, Jack M. Goldstein, Jr.; daughters, Connie (Kevin) Corodimas, Dee (Greg) Ennen, Lorna (Marty) Williams and Cheryl Goldstein; grandchildren, Jacqueline Angel Corodimas, Jeremy, Amanda and Amber Ennen, Holly and Joseph Williams; brother, Dr. Fred "Skip" Goldstein; step-children, Rhonda Luker, Brad (Carrie) Annis, Jeff (Sheri) Annis, Michelle (Brian) Keltner; step-grandchildren, Kara, Ashley, Leigha, Ayrn, Jordan, Lehne, Randi, Korey, Celina, Austin, Bradley and Jacob; step- great-grandchilden, Eric and Dylan; numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends. GRAM Jerry R. Gram, age 64, died Monday, February 12, 2001 at home. Born in Springfield, Oh. Retired from Sun TV and Appliances. Survived by JoAnn Gram. He was the loving father of Penny Fee, Robin (Bill) Mason, Dawn (John) Tomasch, Sherri (George) Mirones, Rick Gram, David (Shelly) Gram. Also survived by brother, Roger (Carolyn); 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
